Do you have a bank card that acts as a credit card too?

I've always used my bank card for free trials but I'm sure some people don't have bank accounts either.  Or electricity.  Or anything to watch it on.

Can you give me a TLDR that stays within the TOS and CS please and thank you?

User A starts a thread complaining about mostly trivial things/things that are not up to their standards/things that would make SL more like other programs or VWs, presents these complaints as Objective Truth.

User B chimes in with their usual whines concerning even more subjective tripe, prompting much eye rolling.

Rather than bother with the thread, a comment was made here in a rather more generalized tone ... User B comes and chimes in with what is supposed to read as a witty rejoinder, pretending it is an actual Peeve.

SSDD.

ETA: Now ... here's hoping these remain up.

*snorts* That is getting into a whole other kettle of fish that I'm just not going to touch on outside of state that it is my personal opinion that mobile access to Second Life should be treated as a task for TPV Devs at worst and should focus more on offering methods to message users, manage inventory and pay parcel rent.

A 3D view is ... a bonus but not required.

Assumption: Accomplishing some of the jujumagyck required for mobile required some server-side stuffs too, so..TPV developers couldn't have pulled it off.

Peeve: 5 years? (Obscure reference!)

*Edit* I mean mobile as being developed, of course.

Ya know what, I'm going to touch on a major Peeve stemming from the thread that prompted one of my more recent posts: Comparisons between Second Life and VR Chat.

This will be coming from the perspective of someone who does have a presence in both.

On the very surface they're similar enough, yes. One of the biggest differences (outside of the enforced First Person perspective) is in the way each presents their 'world': Second Life has the potential to have entire regions linked to each other, allowing you to walk/run/fly/swim/bike/drive/sail/etc from one to another. VRC .... does not. Second Life has an actual inventory and allows you to change out avatar components of any type on the fly. VRC ... does not. Both allow custom content. Both prefer Adult activities to be done in private. Second Life keeps its youngest users (below the age of Consent) limited to one type/rating of region (assuming they're properly flagged/have their Birth Dates entered truthfully). VRC ... does not.

Graphically, both have their strengths and weaknesses - I have a few snapshots I and my friends have taken within VRC that I can send via PM if one is interested (only select ones would be sent, the ones I personally liked most or that showcased cool things). The scripting languages used for each have their strengths and weaknesses as well. There are many things that one has as an advantage on over the other (flight is somewhat better in VRC than here but being that it is First Person only, you'd best be ready to pilot 'normally') but most of these will be subjective.

I could go on but I won't as I include the above only as additional background for the actual Peeve itself: Comparisons between the two that pretend they're aimed at the same audiences, are in the same category/league as each other, that insist that Second Life should take a page out of their book (or any other program's book) ...

Let Second Life be Second Life.

Yeah i never really understood that, let each virtual world be its own thing. Without one mimicking the other. And stop expecting virtual worlds to have triple-A-rated creations and even people working on them. I see people also compare SL to Triple-A games and well they are not the same. They expect the same kinda fan service from SL that they get from these big-name games.

Indeed, it is tiring.

A sort of "Side Peeve" on this too: Both have a thriving creator community (in fact at least one Furry Community creator.store moved over to VRC some time ago) but there are a few key differences there as well: For Second Life, you see more of a focus on things an end user can buy with the in world currency to utilize with some offering custom commissions, most of those being relatively 'cheap' to get. VRC? Public Avatars exist, yes and they are free to grab. if you want something custom made you'll need to either shell out a semi-good chunk of RL change to do so (sometimes having to also shell out money to get specific models/parts so you can show you 'own' them before a creator will do any work for you) or you have to learn and utilize some rather specific programs that also cost money to grab (don't get me started on the cost of an Adobe subscription just to use Substance painter) just so you can 'do it yourself'.

Sure, Second Life has a learning curve for Content Creators but. .. you generally don't need to learn much at all if you want to make a quick customization, especially if it can be accomplished with just a handful of parts that do not cost an arm and a leg - at most.

There is more gatekeeping when it comes to creating in VRC than in SL. Is that what you are trying to say?

That is one takeaway, yes. One of my Mates does Avatar Retextures there and ... Well lets just say that as critical as Second Life users can be, the users there are a whole other level of picky (and sometimes entitled) ... To say nothing of how often Creators there will pick each other apart, some of the established ones turning their noses up at newcomers in far worse ways than here, with some ready and willing to believe or promote any rumors they can to discredit anyone they see as competitors.

If you think it is bad here in Second Life on that front ... You have not seen anything yet.

From what you are saying, SL as a whole is a lot more freer and open to creators. And you don't have to be burdened down by a bunch of subscriptions. Buy yeah this is why I just stick to SL, a lot of the other platforms feel more restrictive even to the consumer than SL does.

Oh it most certainly is. There's a reason why it peeves me - at a minimum - when I see people posting to say that Second Life should take inspiration from there in any way ...

No, just ... No.

Or it peeves me when they expect Triple-A-rated service. When it comes to the Lindens. 1 the Lindens are a smaller team and have a lot on their plate and are actively working on a lot of things. B expecting a turnout like what EA or big gaming companies have would make a lot of us mad. As it would be way more buggy than it is now.

When someone asks a "how do you know if (something) is happening?" question and they respond with "you just know" without providing any frame of reference for guidance. What kind of cowperitis infused baloney is that? "You just know" is such a disrespectful and contemptuously lazy answer.

Since cropped out by the creator and removed from his Flickr page, but there it is . . .

Bellybutton.

Yeah, not a look I like much anyway.

I should note that the creator has apologized for it, explaining that he is Chinese -- which apparently means not knowing what "White Power" means. (It might explain his use of the other symbols however.)

My guess -- and it's just that, I have no inside information at all -- is that he thought Neo-Nazi images and white supremacy looked "badass" without being smart enough to recognize the larger implications of it. Personally, were I to incorporate Chinese characters and Mandarin into an image, I'd make sure I knew what they said, and what they connoted. It's not that hard, after all: we have this thing called "the Internet."

Or maybe I'm being too generous. I don't know. In any case, I don't think he's going to do that again.

Peeve: when you cannot tell what you're looking at.

In response to the rest of your post, it was common in the late 70's for other school kids to doodle "forbidden" symbols. Most of those same (mostly) boys wouldn't dream of it today, one would hope!
