Come on! I just lost a kind of non-copyable ORB, after almost a whole day of testing and configuring! A moment when I needed to open a notecard and it wouldn't open anymore, so I relogated it.
It still didn't work and I had to return it to the inventory ... but LL ate it! A lost workday!
Can it ever reappear?

My experience with things like this, if I understand you correctly, is that items return after a relog. WHERE they return varies. Don't forget to look in Lost and Found. And hopefully you didn't name the thing "object."

First relog, OK!
Lost and Found, checked!
Recycle bin, checked!
The object has a proper name!
Interestingly minutes later SIM restarted!
Second relog, OK!

Lost and Found, checked!
Recycle bin, checked!
No object!
Third relog, OK!

Lost and Found, checked!
Recycle bin, checked!
No object! 😞

Hm.. did you type the object name in search, as in inventory search? How about Area Search 'cause... who knows.

I've lost inventory before. When clearing cache didn't work, I logged a support ticket and LL has been able to recover lost items on occasion.

Thank you all!
I've done everything possible, and I didn't get the ORB back.
What really frustrated me was losing the laborious configuration inside the notecard. A perfect setup for the service I wanted.
The ORB price itself was no problem. I was lucky to be a low value product, and that's why I avoid buying NO COPY things. This was an exception for the very amount.
I already got another one, but now I only do the settings in the notecard within the inventory, and only then I transfer the settings to the object's notecard! So I am sure about my work.
It sucks to lose money, and it sucks to waste time and work!
Thanks again to all!
