We then decide to make a negative review of that product. However, on occasions some of us have received abusive IMs from that vendor over the review. I've heard people complain about this, after abuse giving a bad review or about fraud, but I never had an issue with it in over 10+years. The majority of merchants don't do this from my own experience and from the experience of my friends. To be clear, there is no excuse for those behaviors you describe. That's why LL gave us the tools to deal with this. Eject/Block/Ban also there is Derender permanently on Firestorm and other third party viewers then file an AR if there is a TOS violation. If I ever did have a merchant do this to me, I'd Eject/Block/Ban/Derender so they couldn't communicate with me at all and I wouldn't have to listen to their ranting. I would not ever change or delete mey review, first because I won't give into blackmail, and second I am always careful to be very factual on my reviews about the product actually as described on the MP and any mistakes I find in it. I leave emotions out of it, don't call anyone names or personally attack them. If the merchant wants to leave a nasty or attacking comment on my review, I really wouldn't care. People that read and take note of reviews can tell when someone is being an a$$, do they are only hurting themselves. Perhaps I am being naive, but surely it is the vendor's responsibility to either assist the customer or make an effort to improve their product rather than attack the customer. In other words... After Sales Service! It is the vendors responsibility deliver a product as exactly described on the MP, to correct any technical mistakes made in the creation of the product or clarify any confusing or poorly worded instructions, but not to teach skills needed to use the product to people who lack them or to teach someone to use the product when they haven't even read the instructions. But many will. Improving products is good. If you have a suggestion about wanting a different color, different permissions, or different or added features of a product etc., send it to the merchant in a polite notecard. Reviews are not the place to complain about things that were not advertised. Maybe they will take your suggestion and use it, but they aren't obligated to. Nor are they obligate to give out new versions of a product for free. However many merchants welcome suggestions and will do these things. The bottom line is if you buy a product that was accurately described and that's what you got, you have no complaint unless there were technical errors made or the item was of poor construction. Sometimes customers expect too much too. They pay a tiny bit of money in terms of RL money (a tiny fraction of a US cent for every $1L, and then expect 24/7 instant service or a merchant to spend a long time with the customer doing things they aren't obligated to do. They wouldn't expect to go to Walmart and get this, or even Saks 5th Avenue. Merchants do have RL's with RL issues that come up like us all. Creating new things is another thing that takes hours, weeks or even months and most of the merchants time, and increasingly this is done outside of SL. My own experience is that most merchants are pleasant to deal with and when they receive a polite and respectful request for service, that is reasonable, they comply as soon as they can and work with me to resolve the issue. But if someone rants and raves like some do on this forum, is rude, disrespectful or generally acts nasty they might not get very far or receive prompt pleasant service back. Merchants are human and that's just human nature. If you do run into a uncooperative, fraudulent, or bad merchant and tried to resolve a legitimate issue without success , then just cut your losses leave a low review (provided it's fair and factual not personally attacking) and don't buy again from that merchant. It's just not worth ruining your SL to carry on. Just be glad that you spent such a tiny amount compared to what you'd pay in RL for a product .
  2. If you have a set landing point on your parcel and set the teleport routing to the landpoint, this is where all avatars other than the owner always land when they enter your parcel. Change the teleport rounting to anywhere. This is under About Land>Options
  3. There are a lot of texture change scripts/HUDs etc. that will meet your criteria on the Marketplace, intended for builders and are copy/transfer Most also allow you to change the HUD itself to customize it for your product and business. The scripts may or may not be modifiable. Many HUD makers offer DEMOS on MP or in the inworld shop so you can try them yourself.
  4. greek Wingtips wrote: why are you guys always negative about any suggestions that involves LL , its like a defence leauge that come to rescue anything anyone suggests, The crux of secondlife is comunication and interaction with people around the world, and emails forms such comunication , so an SL email addy is no big deal, I dont want to set up a google, or a yahoo why should its not bigger to setup an email server for LL and I did state it would be for paying customers. and you no something its all aways the same names I see defending LL, either your employees or some else gives, but I can assure you its normally the same names The "same names" you are seeing is not because they are in with LL in some way special, but because they understand to a high degree how SL works and what LL can and can't do given a certain amount of resources and budget and what the general population may want in their opinion. You keep saying the email service would be only for paying customers. So you are willing to pay for this service either as an extra charge or through a higher Premium Membership fee? LL would have to cover the extra cost somehow. I doubt many people would pay though as you can already do what you want using other email services. Indeed, most of my friends have email accounts in their avatar's or business' name. If you want to make suggestions about SL then use the Suggestion Page. If you want other's opinions about your suggestions feel free to post them here. However if you can't handle the replies from people that see no merit in your suggestion as you presented it, then don't post. It's not personal, it's only their opinion.
  5. If you are trying to address the Editors of the Destination Guide, they won't see your post. Lindens only post replies in certain sections of this forum, such as the technical forums and the post must be related the actual subforum such as SL Servers, the Viewer etc. The Destination Guide and particularly the Editior's Picks choose sims that are outstanding in some way. People can nominate a sim or LL can hear about sims through word of mouth or a high visitor count. If no G sims meet the criteria to be choosen for the guide then none will appear. If you know of an outstanding G rated Christmas sim, you may nominate it, although it's doubtful it will be included in the guide this close to Christmas, but you never know. LL has no control over what a private estate choose to rate their sim, as long as they follow the maturity guidelines. Those holiday sims may have clubs or bars on them or other adult content, not necessarily sexual, which isn't allowed on a G sim. The estate owner could just prefer limiting visitors to adults so they don't have to deal with making sure nobody behaves in any way that is not allowed on a G sim. The overwhelming majority of sims in SL are M or A rated because the overwhelming majority of residents are over 18. If you are under 18, you will get to go to these sims when you turn 18.
  6. If you mean clues, stores that participate in the hunt usually send them to their group or have a sign in the shop that you click on to get the clues and landmarks. If you mean you want someone to tell you the answer to the clues, you have to figure those out yourself.
  7. Wow that explains a lot to me. My husband totaled my car trying to beat a stop light years ago. Of course it was the lights fault for changing too fast from yellow to red! I think I'll write the Mayor a scathing letter since it's all his fault.
  8. I can't remember where it came from now, but I made a pinup calendar once in SL for someone and found a pose almost identical in one of the shops that cater to selling retro items, along with several other classic pinup type poses.
  9. greek Wingtips wrote: Thats the most ridulas thing I heard, emails addys can be private and given out to friends, you can control your spam thats the not fault of email its like saying I have car accidents but I will blame the car I highly doubt LL will ever give us emails. BUT if they do, it will be your username@secondlfie.com or .net or something. The most expedient way to do it. Hardly private and easily guessed. Soon you will be getting spam from all the places that send it now in SL. LL might even sell a mailing list to RL marketers to recoup the costs of running the service. When web profiles came out everything was public on it until a lot of users complained about it, only then did they give privacy controls. So privacy is not LL's number one concern. If you want a private email, create one in your avi's name or a secret name at any of the free email sites and give that out to friends. It works just as well. I fail to see the advantage of a @secondlife address.
  10. You are blaming the vendor for your mistake of pressing the gift button, then proceed to question the scripting of a brand name that you don't even know made the vendor! Lastly you are already dissing the creator for poor customer service before you even give them a chance. While a few merchants don't log on much, most do unless they have RL issues. Creating things more and more requires people to do it outside of SL. You can't expect instant service 24/7. A polite note to the creator will generally solve your problem. Not ranting on the forum.
  11. Note that the Blocked Object list is called the Asset Black LIst in some viewers, including Firestorm.
  12. You can use a shared media player otherwise known as Media on a Prim. You can make your own or buy one. There are several on MP. You don't need to own land to do this. Note that other people will be able to hear the music, even if they have the land music turned off, if they are close enough to your skybox (roughly 100 meters) and may complain about it. They can turn it off by camming into your home and clicking the controls. That link explains how. However your landlord may object to it because it shouldn't be up to other tenants to have to do this everytime you play music. You should check with your landlord before you do this to see if they object to it.
  13. We don't recommend things in answers because we only answer questions about SL. Go to the Shoutcast website and you'll find a number of them. You can listen to a several to find one you like. Right click the icon to download it next to the name of the station and choose winamp. It will downsload a file to your computer. Open the file in a text app like notepad and you'll see the URL to plug into your land.
  14. Sorry, I don't need another email account to keep up with. I already have one in my avi's name that I use. LL should spend their resources on SL not adding a shiny we don't need.
  15. Playing music in SL is a lot like DJ'ing because you have to stream you music to the location you are performing in. You don't need land. See this thread for how to stream music. How successful you'll be depends on who will allow you to perform and how talented you are. Clubs and live music venues are the places to look for opportunities. Some will allow you to play for tips, and once you get a name for yourself and a following some places will actually pay you in addition to any tips you earn. I have owned a rock club and a jazz ballroom and hired live experience performers and paid anywhere from 1K to more than 10k per performance. Occasionally I also hired new comers if they were very talented and professional. The highest amount was earned by a very popular and talented live performer that had such a following that she packed an entire sim to the limit at each performance, and earned in tips, as much or more than I paid her. A lot of successful performers started out in karaoke or open mic places. It's good practice for you to refine your music, your streaming quality, and how to talk to the crowd. Also, music venue owners and booking agents a lot of times go to these places to scout out new talent. You may or may not be tipped there depending on who's there and your talent. When you are ready, have enough music perfected to perform for an hour. You should talk between songs a bit, but remember you are hired to play not chat. Have a notecard containing a list of songs you perform well in a notecard giver so people can look at the list and request songs. Be sure to have a professional quality profile picture as well as information in your profile about the kind of music you play, who to contact to book you, and a list of performance dates and times. If you can give a link to an outside web site with a sample of your music that'd be great. Also It's good to start a fan group and send notices about your performances. Get a group joiner to put on stage for people to join. Prepare to audition to get performance dates until you are popular enough that word of mouth spreads. Search out clubs and live music venues that are interested in new performers of the genre of music you play. You will have to find out who the owner is, or who is responsible for booking performers at each club. Then you will have to go talk to them, maybe a lot, to get an audition. This is going to take a lot of work on your part. There are booking agents in SL that know who all the contacts are and will get you bookings in exchange for a commission and will promote you. You may be approached by some, or you may have to seek them out, if you are interested. Talk to a few and go see their other clients perform, then talk to their clients, before settling on who you hire. Be sure you understand what services they provide and what commission they will take. Any agent worth hiring will want to see you perform or audition and will have helpful advice on your appearance, presentation, and music selection and know how much you can charge as your career advances. Some performers forgo this and do all the work themselves, while others are more than glad to pay an agent to do this work. Best of luck to you. SL always has room for talented live performers!
  16. You can sell it back to yourself for $1. You'll get the money back when group dividends are distributed. Just make sure you are the only one that gets them, if there are more members in the goroup, by looking at the roles you have in the group.
  17. I agree with other's advice to stick with the classic avatar at first. Definitely hold off on buying any mesh body parts for a while IF you think you might be interested in it. But if you like the classic avatar don't let anyone pressure you into buying mesh. The exceptions being SLink feet because most shoes are made for these feet now. They are a huge improvement over the ugly clumsy foot and ankle of the classic avatar. SL just added more 'bones' to the avatar that is going to make it much better for not only animations but for being able to adjust the mesh to the shape you prefer. It's going to take time for mesh designers to produce a wide variety of mesh content with these abilities. There will be 'fashionistas' with money to spend that will run out and buy the earlier offerings. But as more content becomes available you'll have a wider choice of looks and quality. SL is a free market economy that runs on supply and demand. Competition could also bring prices down a bit eventually as the initial demand lessens.
  18. Someone pointed out in another thread about rent increases that a lot of them could be occuring because of the exchange rates. People buying $L's get more for for each $1.00US than they have in the past, while landowners have to cash out their $L's and get less $US than they did a just a few months ago. The result is renters are paying less rent in terms of RL$, while landowners are getting less rent in terms of RL$. Many estates run at a narrow profit margin pr were just breaking even. Some landlords have eaten the loss on the exchange up to now but can't anymore, especially small estates that may lose their sims. A prim increase might have been viewed as an opportune time to increase rent paid in $L's. The Chung estates, the largest probably in SL, just increased their rents. Other large and small estates will probably follow the leader. It could very well be that we'll see more rent boxes that charge rent based on what the landowner wants in terms of $US. In other words, if the landowner wants $10.00US a week for a parcel, then the rent box will charge whatever amount in $L's that $10.00US will buy at the time and on the day the rent is paid, as it monitors the Exchange rate. You used to see that more back in earlier times as well as landowners who rented larger parcels only accepting rent paid to them via PayPal.
  19. Some people just don't have the cash to even buy a sim on the secondary market and pay the tier which is generally due a lot sooner than a month away, but they can afford one months tier one month at a time. Sellers figure what they want for the sim, then add any tier they've paid in advance from when it's sold to the next tier due date. Then there are the transfer fees to consider too. Although they are billed to the seller, most add them to the price they want for their sim. Sims at a super low price are rare. They not only are they snapped up fast, generally tier is due real soon. If you don't make a deal as soon as they hit the market, someone else will. Sellers charging little are desperate for the cash and will take the fastest sale they can get. Of course you have to hear of them first too. When I've bought sims cheap it's because the seller has contacted me, needed the money fast, due to a RL issue, and offered me the super low price. They got my name from people who know I'm in the market sometimes on behalf of clients and at one time myself when I had a pretty large estate and was in the rental game back when it was more profitable.
  20. Your are asking technical questions that only the creator can answer for you. The alpha patterns are probably not stored in the body at all but in the script that controls them, by UUID number. I am sure that script is no mod. Renaming the body itself may have broken it as some scripts depend on names to function properly but only the creator knows for sure.
  21. People get roommates all the time. You can advertise here in the forums for them if you don't already have someone in mind. I can't say anything about the rent you want to charge or the amount of prims your giving them because I don't know what your rent is or how many free prims you have. However here is a list of things to think about regarding house rules: Exactly when the rent is due. Specify a day of the week, such as 'by noon SLT on Sundays' They have to pay the rent on time and if they can't notify you and explain the situation so you can see if you are willing to accept late payment (of course after they establish a good history of paying on time!). If you allow any automatic grace period for rent payment (like 3 days) You should also spell out how you feel about having people over to spend the night having SLex in your house, if you don't want them too having parties and if allowed how many people can they have at the party when they can have visitors over, if you want to restrict the times of day what happens if you can't get along with them (as opposed to an eviction for cause), how much notice they'll get to move out etc. if they can rez things in common rooms or not or only in their bedrooms any prohibitions against bad language in public chat or with you in IM, if you care about that any other behaviors that would be 'deal breakers' for you that would impede the enjoyment of your home. Put in a phrase that you have a right to evict them anytime they break the rules, without notice, and return their stuff. If you have to do this that you aren't responsible if you do return it and SL loses it. (If you ever have to do this, I'd send them a notecard explaining why, then ban them and probably mute them too so they don't cause you trouble) That you have a right to change the rent amount or the rules at any time with X number of days notice. Put it all in writing on a notecard that is no mod, no transfer and give it to them to read before they pay you and move in.

  23. All you need to do is not log in. Your account will be there no matter how long you are away. If you gave your password to someone (I hope not) change it before you leave so no on can log into your account in SL or the website.
  24. There is no reason to do this. LL does not reveal your RL age to anyone, other than if you are able to get into M, A or gaming sims. You'd be taking a risk of having your account terminated for no reason.
  25. Callum is right that in terms of RL dollars tenants are paying less because of the exchange rate. So not only are they paying less due to this, most have more prims. I'm not so sure that a lot of landlords won't be increasing the rent a bit because of the exchange rate now that it seems that the exchange rate will remain higher amounts of $L's for the same US$ at least for a while. Most rentals don't return much profit to the landlord, and many may have been breaking even or losing money because of the exchange rate and decided to eat the loss for a bit to keep their tenants. But that can't go on forever. Yes tenants can move, but if this turns out to be a trend, now that some of the major landlords have moved to raise rents, how long will the cheaper rent last at the new place before the new landlord has to raise rents or risk losing the sim altogether? My advice would be that if you have a good landlord who has been charging you reasonable rent and providing good service, then even if your rent increases a bit, stay a while longer to see where rents stabilize, then make your decision. Otherwise, you may be jumping from the frying pan to the fryer.
