  1. Even after I directly quoted the LL bot wiki page? And linked the page? http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Linden_Lab_Official:Inworld_policy_on_bots http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/What_is_a_bot%3F#bot
  2. Kind/type makes no difference here. If you, the human being, doesn't do something to/with the HUD it will time out. If you were running a program that prevented the timeout and didn't require human interaction (other than launching/exiting the program/bot, of course), then I would agree. Simply put, a bot is a computer program that does not require human interaction* to function. *All bots require minimum human interaction in just launching/exiting the bot program. That isn't the type of interaction I am referring to. I'm referring to interaction during the course of the program running in order to keep the program running. All computer programs require some monitoring. They just don't always need someone doing anything to keep it running. I know I'm not doing a very good job of explaining this. Sorry. TBI can be a beeyotch at times.
  3. As per a convo I saw (can't remember when) those accounts are still considered bots and must be registered. From what I recall, you aren't supposed to use them as regular accounts once they are registered as bots. Not sure who to ask this of but perhaps @Patch Linden can get confirmation for us.
  4. Time out as in getting logged out for being idle too long? That isn't bot behavior. Your viewer will log you out for being afk too long if you don't change that setting. Does that make all accounts bots? No. LL's definition of bot is "avatars controlled by computer programs rather than people." If you're having to interact with a HUD to keep it from timing out, it is not being fully controlled by a program. Granted, it's a very thin line between what must be registered as a bot and what doesn't need to be. But it is pretty cut and dried as to what isn't allowed. When in doubt, ask LL. And always get confirmation in writing. ***** Someone was claiming that bots don't/can't violate LL policy for using too many resources on a sim/region: http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Linden_Lab_Official:Inworld_policy_on_bots
  5. As far as I am concerned, it can stay broken. Personally, I want nothing to do with Facebook or its ilk.
  6. I play games like STO, Planet Nomads, Empyrion: Galactic Survival, Titan Quest, Dungeon Siege, etc and yes, I have all 4 iterations of The Sims. I've never played Candy Crush. It does not appeal to me in the least. I am not ashamed.
  7. Not a habit I'm concerned about breaking. On the "bad habits to break" list (in order of importance), it's pretty much at the very bottom.
  8. Not saying it isn't a mistake. Just saying that since I've been a resident (2004) everyone I encountered called them sims until fairly recently.
  9. Pretty much. What it is saying is that each simulator process (server) can host more than one region. An estate, which is made up of several sims/regions, may have all or part of the sims/regions hosted on the same server. Makes more sense to do that than have say a 10 sim/region estate scattered across two or more servers. Residents were calling them sims long before LL decided the proper term was regions.
  10. In the past you could get that info from LL. I don't know about now and I don't know if there is a way to tell for certain other than asking LL.
  11. Next time just point him to the section on the wiki I quoted.
  12. Read what I quoted again. Regions/sims can be on the same server. If one region is using more resources than others... do I really need to go into what amounts to the same thing?
  13. Well. No wonder the MacLeods have been in such a bad mood these last few centuries. You didn't invite Olaf the Black! Or even Leod for that matter. For shame!
  14. Are you playing in SL? Where? Can I buy my own and play?
  15. Doesn't matter if it is mainland or not. http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Land Residents have been calling regions sims for 14 years that I know of. Gets so old being challenged about it every time I use the word sim.
  16. Something I learned a very long time ago about people in SL. People are going to take unfair advantage of such things. IMO, that is something all TPV devs need to keep in mind. If it is something that could be exploited, there will always be at least one jackanape who will do so.
  17. About as much impact as a certain TPV dev using other people's computers to attack a website. Damn near killed the pc I had at the time.
  18. There are still quite a few who do use them. I still have both kinds the one others can change and the original that others can't change.
  19. The white text without the black background is a titler. The text with the black background is the LL name tag that shows groups and display names. It is the latter people are messing with that LL wants to stop. It should not have any effect on titlers as those are scripted objects worn by avatars that have no effect on name/group/display name tags.
  20. I must be the only person who uses Steam that doesn't look for things like Black Desert or Warframe.
