  1. There is so much to learn in SL. Look up the Second Life channel on YouTube for some guidance. Start with one of the Senra avatars (Blake or Jamie), go to the Welcome Hub, and get help from a Mentor or someone there who's been in SL for a few years. Ask for advice on these forums too. You'll probably want to buy a mesh body and head later, but start with the free avatars first. Then always demo mesh bodies, heads, or clothing before spending money on them.
  2. There is so much drama here that I don't want to touch. The nearly unintelligible writing is overwhelming for me too. What I will say is that one can upload pictures from their inventory, as long as they are full permissions. Open the picture or texture. If there is a button in the lower right corner that says [Save], right click that to save it to your computer.
  3. This post I made on another thread explains how to create a decent mesh avatar for under $L 1000. Note: when you get a mesh head, start with the shape that comes with it or one made for that brand of head. Make a copy. Then modify the copy little by little until you're happy with the shape.
  4. People on this forum will probably love to give you advice, but you have to give us an idea of what you want. You can get a pretty decent look for $L 1000 to $L 10,000, but it helps to understand realistic proportions. For a female avatar, do you want a slender, curvy, hourglass or pear-shaped body? Do you want a Caucasian skin or another ethnicity? A good ethnic skin or African hair is generally easier to find from a creator who specializes in those types of skin or hair.
  5. A new look for Tasha with the Lelutka Kaya head.
  6. While it might be against the rules of a school or company to wear a T-shirt depicting cannabis, a cartoon depiction of cannabis is not illegal in the US. ^ This ^ I mentioned that it's legal in California because it then does not fall into the definition of an "illicit" drug. It's legal for at least medicinal use in many US states. Alcohol is illegal in some countries, but it's legal in the US, so it's not an "Illicit" drug in SL either.
  7. One way to achieve the illusion that the moderators are silently monitoring the forums, is to silently report posts we believe are inappropriate. No saying, "Reported" or "In Before The Lock" and no posts thanking the mods for commenting on or locking a thread.
  8. The textures are transferable, so if one alt gets them, they can transfer them to your main account.
  9. I found this podcast on Imaginary Worlds that had a couple episodes referencing Second Life that I thought were good. I threw in one on Neromancer too, because it's more recent. They're worth a listen, especially if you're talking a walk or sorting inventory. Class of '84: When Cyber Was Punk - Feb. 14, 2024 Snow Crashing Into the Metaverse - May 11, 2022 Second Life Goes On - March 17, 2021 The one specifically about SL references the Science Friday group and sim, which the NPR creators of the show revisted during the COVID pandemic. I used to go to that for a while.
  10. Not at all, especially if it's a female and you're willing to wait for a mesh head. 1. Get the LucyBody Atenea from their MM board, then pay $L 25O for the BOM applier. For a male alt, I'd suggest the DNA mesh bodies and skins for about $L 5 total. (If you're willing to pay more, get the Maitreya body when it's on sale on the Black Friday weekend. This gives you Velour body skins included.) 2. Join the Lelutka, Akeruka, LOGO, and Genus groups. Get the group gift Genus head and face skin now. Get free or $ L 1 group gift heads from the other groups later. I forget what it costs to join Akeruka, but I'll guess $L 150. I'll assume paying $L 155 for maybe 3 mesh heads then. 3. Join at least one skin store group with body skins you like that also has a bunch of group gifts. For a female alt, I'd suggest Nuve for $L 300. If you can wait until December, you can join several for free. 4. I assume you can modify your own shape, but if not there are cheap ones on Marketplace. 5. For a female alt, get the free to newbies AO at the Body Language shop at the Welcome Hub. There are also other free male and female AOs inworld or on MP. 6. Join all the clothing and hair stores you like with free groups and group gifts. COCO and Hilly Halaan are good ones to start with for a female alt. Go to Paloma Plaza for freebies too. For a male alt, go to the free section of Gabriel. 7. Join some clothing and hair stores with low group join fees, and a bunch of group gifts, including occational store credit gifts. My suggestions for a female avatar are Blueberry, Addams, ViSion, Tachinni, and No.Match. Following these steps, one can fully outfit an alt for under $L 1000. Join the Fabulously Free and SL Frees and Offers groups for more free stuff.
  11. I think Rowan has provided the best answer, but I just want to add that growing and selling cannabis is legal in California, the state where Linden Lab is based, so I doubt the officers would view this activity as something that would have to be on an Adult region. I've seen other simulated drug use on Moderate land as well. ( The peyote trip at Tablau is cool.)
  12. As long as you know they are not really someone outside of yourself, thinking of your alts as friends is not bad. Why I have my alts: Tasha started when I wanted to come into SL without my boyfriend judging me about how much time I was spending in here. Then I used her as a NPC servant in a roleplay sim. Then I eventually decided she would be a homage to my wolf-dog who was dear to me. I use her when I want to be left alone & not bothered by people in SL. Alycia started as a character in a haunted house, basically like a character in a story. Later she became a kind of alter ego for me. Sometimes I imagine her being irritated with me, but she's my favorite alt, so I let her have the most clothing & stuff. Evan started as a furry, because I was curious what it was like to be a furry. Then he became a male model when I was creating male clothing. Now I use him to collect and save information about where to get male skins, clothing & etc. for free or cheap. Alycia and Tasha are the only ones that feel kind of like friends, because I can imagine how they would feel. Evan is neutral for me, without any real personality. Having alts is useful for testing permissions and for spreading one's lindens around so they aren't all in one basket.
  13. A 5 year old thread is rather rank, however the topic is new for this poster directly above your response. Maybe someone has some new ideas for her? I don't know what else to do besides muting & blocking those who annoy you, and if all else fails creating an alt account to be able to play in SL in peace. LL won't do anything about what happens off their platform & won't do much about what happens on their platform. Situations like this are generally treated like a resident to resident dispute, which we're expected to handle on our own, hopefully without escalating the conflict.
  14. It's only about self interest. Bad PR is bad for Linden Lab. Losing users or money is also bad for Linden Lab. They have to balance the potential for increased costs vs. the potential for lost revenue or a hit to their public reputation.
  15. I agree. But what else could they do, practically speaking? We don't want them monitoring everything we do in SL, do we? So there is no practical way for them to know what goes on in someone's private estate or skybox. As long as nobody else finds out and complains publically, they're good, right? Short of LL controlling what kinds of avatars we can use - such as nothing below the waist or only avatars created by the lab - they can't stop users from presenting as a child. All they have any control over is what happens in public, and then only when an infraction is reported by another user. What they probably can do is hire a couple more people to follow up on these reports, and then punish those who are clearly breaking the rules. Maybe they should also have undercover Lindens going around to investigate allegations of TOS violations and sims with dicy sounding names and descriptions. When people think they might be watched, they tend to behave better. Being seen to be doing something, rather than doing nothing, will help with the PR.
  16. I like #1 or #2, because it's sometimes easier to make a 6 word sentence than a 5 word one. What I don't like is when people use random letters instead if a word for the seed. Random letters often make it harder for the next person, whereas a complete sentence and word encourages the person posting to make the sentence and word topical in some way. Sometimes we'll have a running theme, sometimes a sentence responds to the previous one, and sometimes I use the 5 Word game as a way to comment on RL or SL topics that I can't otherwise discuss on the forum.
  17. What redecorating? As far as I know, the plan is to eventually just delete all but a few of those regions as being of "historical interest". They could easy delete all but the most complete continent. With that one, they might want to delete some, but not all of the regions, which would require a little more planning.
  18. Maybe because the person contributes to the sim either financially or with their time, has shown that they care about the sim, and is good at managing people. @PheebyKatz would be a good exanple.
  19. Maybe LL should give the residents of the old Linden Homes an incentive to leave peacefully? First they would have to close the old homes from being available as new Linden Homes. Then they could offer a free month off the resident's Premium account if they leave by a specific time. After that time, they would just be evicted, with their objects returning to their Lost and Found folder. Give people plenty of warnings in their email and with inworld notices first, of course.
  20. I hope LL clears up this confusion with tighter rules soon. I definitely don't want to have child avatars banned or confined only to G rated regions. I think those who wish to use a child avatar for non-sexual purposed should be allowed to do so in peace, but I also think LL needs to do more to clean up SL's image. A naked child avatar in a public area is an obvious problem, in my opinion. Nobody can tell when they enter an area if there are sex animations inside of a kitchen set or even a bed, however. Thus the person with a child avatar or even the owner of a rental sim, shouldn't be held accountable if a child avatar is standing near or even sitting on furniture that might or might not have sexual animations in it. We shouldn't have to look inside the contents of every object around us just to be safe. Sex animations could be hidden inside of a desk, a bench, a toy or plant without our knowledge. There are always going to be avatars that stand in a grey area of the line between what is a child or not too. No matter where that line is drawn, someone is going to stand right up next to it. An anime character might seem childlike to one person, but not to another. A cute, short, slender avatar might seem childlike to one person, but not to another. A Lolita or Waifu outfit might seem like a child to one person, but not to another. A short, cute furry, Tiny, Dinkie, fairy or doll might seem like a child avatar to some people too. This is partly why the owner of a home, store, parcel or region and their representatives has the right to eject and ban anyone at anytime for any reason or for no reason. They might feel uncomfortable about an avatar or their profile. They might suspect the avatar is an alt of someone they don't want there. Whatever their reason, they have a right to control who is allowed on their property.
  21. You have to get the permission of the sim owner and the avatars that would be on video. You don't have to do the same for still photography in a public location. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
  22. True, but linden dollars are still a game token, not a currency. They function like a currency, but Linden Lab specifically defines them as a token so they won't have to follow currency regulations and so they won't have to pay out for the linden dollars we have in our accounts if they don't want to do so. If someone is banned, LL can keep their lindens. If LL decides to close down SL, they won't have to pay out our lindens as RL currency.
