  1. In regards to decision making by LL, it doesn't matter what the rules of accounting are regarding how things show up on the ledgers, because LL knows that the Land Barons are middle men. SL is an almost entirely trickle-up economy. The important people aren't the Land Barons....it is the people who pay the meters of the Land Barons...the socializers. It is the social scene underlying the land barons that pays LL's bills, not to mention their cut from the Lindex, their cut from Marketplace, and their cut from creators cashing out. Where does that L$ come from? The Socializers. Bakes on mesh, Bento, and mesh itself...all there to make the shoppity-shop socializers happy. You make them happy, the Barons and the creators are happy from the L$. There's a reason why LL hired Strawberry Singh, LL knows who the real customer is, and as I said it isn't the Land Barons.
  2. The funny thing is, you have to be careful with the application of Latisse and Lumigan ( the eyelash treatment and the glaucoma med that is the same medication) because they can increase hair growth in other places as well. IIRC cheeks were reported, this is why you have to use the special applicator.
  3. Starting? He started covering SL like he didn't enjoy it back in 2010! Or was it 2009? Anyway, years! Some of us who comment regularly on NWN have commented on how he doesn't use SL "like the rest of us" anymore. Also there's some Fashionista named Sasy who has a blog, which unlike some other oldbie fashionistas...is still active. https://sasyscarborough.com/
  4. I wonder what sets those residents apart from us, that's the question. Most of us here are REALLY engaged. Blogs, flickr, active in in-world groups, the forums here, SLU/VVO, machinima. We're what Gwyneth Llewelyn called "The 100000": https://gwynethllewelyn.net/2008/10/13/the-hard-facts-about-the-second-life-economy/ Yeah it's old, and multiple pages, and written pre-mesh and pre-marketplace, but it has a good description of the various elements of the SL economy and userbase, especially this page: https://gwynethllewelyn.net/2008/10/13/the-hard-facts-about-the-second-life-economy/6/ Though I would say it's closer to "The 200000" now, I would say MORE people are engaged in the economy and shopping like madwomen than before, in part due to mesh.
  5. Yes, I would agree on that. SL's "success", such as it is, is mostly in spite of LL. The users LL has...are not the users LL wanted.
  6. I'm sorry, I meant for you to take the "yes" tongue in cheek like ChinRey's Yes, not literally. I should have added a smiley, my fault.
  7. Not a big fan of Twilight I see. 😉 For those who don't know, 50 shades was originally a Twilight Fanfic. I am NOT joking, 50 shades is Twilight fanfic with the names filed off and the sparkly vampire stuff taken out. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fifty_Shades_of_Grey#Background_and_publication It is my duty to shop, such is the way of things in Bore. And since it is my duty to shop, my Mistress should supply myself, her Kajira, with an allowance...oh say 100000L$ a month for a start. Those fatpacks won't buy themselves. By shopping I'm being true to my Borean nature. On Earth, sometimes Fashionistas don't shop, by doing so they deny their true shoppity shop nature. But here on Bore, a fashionista knows her duty, to shop and shop some more. And she does it well, because it pleases her Mistress, and her Mistress wants a pretty Fashionista, but who cares about Mistress, right. Shopping is the most important thing, such is the way of things in Bore.
  8. Sounds like there's an interesting story behind that statement. As for me, One alt, land group/premium/utility. Her name is CeciliaCreeggan Resident, and is acknowledged as my alt in her profile. She's not even meshed out...currently. Interesting. (takes notes) So a flagrant hussy like basically every other female avatar in SL...HA! I just do hussy things as myself. I was in an SL porn machinima once, back in 07 or 08...really, I was. Just did it out of a sense of just having a different experience. Sounds like my alt I have met a few people who seem to dislike SL, a few of those saying they ought to leave. They sometimes do....maybe for 6 months or a year....but they tend to come back. Because once you've been in it for years...it gets in your blood. It's like Hotel California. You can log out any time you want, but you can never truly leave. On a prim linden highway, no wind in my hair. hitting the pgup key, rising up through the air up ahead in the distance, I saw a shimmering light the Lag grew heavy and my RAM grew slim I was going to logout for the night .........
  9. My apologies, I didn't mean to imply you didn't know, just following on from your comment about the folks in your community not knowing. Most of the folks I call "fashionistas" are also a little bit "Trollopista" now and then. After all, one of the early fashion bloggers had the last name "Trollop". I know Stroker, as most oldbies do, but I don't know the other two. Including land and furniture? Up it to 20% easy. As you said, Adult furniture is PRICEY..and well...even some of us PG people have a adult bed or two. I've got the Dutchie Lesbian Gustavian, and I know I've got the full old SexGen setup somewhere in inventory. Yes...I've got a L$4500 sex bed that doesn't get used as a sex bed, I jokingly call it my Lesbian "Photoprop" bed. I think I've got an ExCite something-or-other in inventory as well. Yes. 😛 Torley's videos are why I say "Friendly Greetings" whenever I see a Linden. Admittedly, he is an acquired taste.
  10. SL has had a large amount of Pixel Vanity and Barbie Dream House XTREEM even before I joined in 2006. The tagline of one early SL fashion blog, Linden Lifestyles, was: "Our Wardrobe is Better than Barbie's" And trust me, I have a lot of Pixel Vanity, after all CC Rule #1 is: Is the CC Pretty? If not, the CC needs to do more shopping. Also, CC Rule #1: CC must look pretty, If CC does not look pretty, someone must pay. Either the Lindens, or myself because I need to do more shopping. And CC Rule #1: CC is all about the pretty, more pretty is better than less, if something make CC less pretty it is a bad thing that must be destroyed...if something make CC more pretty it is a good thing. They're all Rule #1, so I don' t have to make the effort to count to #2. I have more, they're pretty much all justification for more shopping. Oh, they do it on Reddit now? They used to do it back in alt.fashion on USENET in the late 90's/early oughts.
  11. A Transcript or timeline would be nice for podcasts, Frau Yardley. In the SL I inhabit, people know about Drax, Frau Yardley and Berry. Of course the SL I inhabit is full of oldbies, steampunks, vintage fans, and fashionistas. When I first heard of Drax he was working with Pooky Amsterdam (former SL machinima producer, accent like Lovey Howell of Gilligans Island), this was what...2012? Frau Yardley I know from NWN/SLU/VVO and most of us old-timey region visitors know about Berlin. I don't visit Berlin because the 1920's is my LEAST favorite decade for fashion. I've virtually rapped Jo's knuckles when she's gone a little too far on her comments about us "Barbies". Berry is Berry, if you're a fashionista in the big groups and who follows the blogs/flickr, you know who Berry is. I've spent a lot on lingerie, which I rarely use. I don't use mesh nips, most of us PG people don't bother with them or other "private bits" addons, let alone spankers, collars and so forth. As for what portion of the economy the sexy side is? I think the general fashion economy is holding SL up with the adult stuff being part of that. Maybe 10 percent, enough that it would be missed.
  12. Take a look at pennyfarthing logo on the rental meters in Caledon some time, realize that some Caledonians say "Be Seeing You."
  13. Yes! I'll probably use something like "Redheaded" or "Full of Pixel Vanity"
  14. She sounds like fun. I have, at times intentionally played up the stereotype of a ditzy SL fashionista who only understands shoes. Or sometimes I play up the stereotype of a midwestern small-town "rube". But only after people say I'm smart or something when I discuss tech or solve a problem, which is mostly with people who know I'm not a "bimbo". Though truly, The CC only un-der-stands shoes. seh est la vye purse-a-phony silly voose plait And to be sure, if I actually visited a francophone country I would try to pronounce things properly. Lines I hate the most: "Hey" meaning those that just say "Hey" as an introduction. And thusly most of the clumsy come-ons people have reported.
  15. WANT! I only have her car! Oldbie FIC Catherine Omega was an early builder/scripter, co-founded the LSL Wiki, partner of Aimee Weber Damien Fate is FATEwear, co-owner of Neve/Coldlogic Siggy Romulus was a well loved builder, RL partner of Nephilaine Protagonist. He passed away last year. Cristiano Midnight founded the SLU (SLUniverse/VirtualVerse One) forums where the oldbies hang out. Fallingwater Cellardoor was a content maker of shoes, jewelry and flowers. Her store was "Shiny Things"
  16. Also Catherine Omega, Damien Fate, Siggy Romulus, Cristiano Midnight and Fallingwater Cellardoor
  17. Don't you know about the LCC (Leeward Cruising Club)? They're a Resident group, boating centric. In Bellisseria, friendly individuals who are part of that group turn on rez with a few minutes auto-return to set up rez zones. They use yellow for long distance visibility and the fact that they use sky signs that you can see on the map. Those little yellow [LCC] rectangles are them. They're active throughout SL. The parcels owned by their friends in Bellisseria don't have commercial activity, don't have tip jars and don't give out landmarks.
  18. I'm not, but that's Aimee Weber on the far right, even us 2006 vintage noobs can recognize her.
  19. Oh there's community in OTHER parts of SL...just that THIS kind of community tended to have a large buy-in. You've got cute mid-century bungalows and boathouses. What places does that sound like? Bay City and the Blake. And what do those places have in common? Huge buy in even for a 1024. We're talking 100000L$ So you've got these new houses just begging to be filled with gacha'd tchotchkes by domestic girly girls (and their partners). There are a LOT of couples in Bellisseria. And you've got the boathouses, just waiting for a Bandit460/50/55/60 to be put out front. About the only thing Bellisseria doesn't have is the more in depth infrastructure of Bay City, the stores, the retro clubs, the airport complex, the mid-century small city through rose colored glasses stuff. I might have been in Bay City and hanging out with Marianne and vintage friends...if not for the buy in. I might have had a boathouse like my current one in Sansara with my Bandit slotted underneath in the Blake...if not for the buy in. I might have ended up in Bellisseria but they upped the tier and dropped the fee for the additional 1024 BEFORE we found out about the new Linden Homes. (though they're not quite open plan enough for my needs and not quite enough LI) You're not wrong, Bellisseria is Oldbie heavy, just head to the social hangouts down there. But it DOES exist, but it's either themed (like say Steampunk Caledon) or expensive like Bay City. I'm not sure they've quite figured out what they've got either. LL, you just fulfilled the needs of your Gen-X Barbie Domestic Goddess XTREEM customers...and their partners. If I was you, I'd build off a "Bay City-ish" island off to the side, not directly connected, except maybe by a long over-water road (a la key west with the road built up high enough so boats can go under it) or by boat or small plane. Put the Bay City style social infrastructure there. Fairgrounds, a bowling alley, a retro classy club (like the Seraph Club in old Seraph City), a coffee shop, a diner, parks. They don't even have to be "real businesses", heck put the Bay City folks in charge of it, Call it something like Bella Village think some place like Amity Island in Jaws. This is the place that can have a halloween bash, or 4th of july fireworks and regatta. While Bellisserria does have The Squishy Pickle's, pools, small parks and whatnot, it's not really usable because no-rez and the Linden Homes can stay Linden Homes. Think of "Bella Village" as the "main street" for Bellisseria They're probably trying to figure out how to approach it, wondering if it's a "Flash in the pan" that the excitement will die down and the groups go inactive and people become silent in their homes and skyboxes above them again. I think some of the excitement will die down...but...the old Linden homes didn't have resident run groups set up like this, or people opening up their homes as "open houses", or organizing info and setting up a website. This is a community..it may quiet down, but I think it's here to stay in the same way Bay City has stayed. Yep, they want zoned pleasant looking neighborhoods with friendly oldbie neighbors, some place they don't have to fuss too much with a build but can just put out decorations, furnishings and maybe a modular add-on or too. Where they can head a couple of sims over to a pool, or Squishy Pickle and chat with friends, or visit an open-house coffeehouse. They want the Rose-colored-glasses version of mid-century-living. And a cheaper alternative to the marina/boating life of the Blake. Though a suggestion for the Houseboaters in Bellisseria, start working on organizing like the Blake boaters. The land folks have got off to a good start, but you could start doing mini-regattas, or discussions of neat boat addons or other things related to boating.
  20. The SL economy is limping? Are you sure about that? Could there be parts that are limping and other parts that aren't? Do any of us have any real hard numbers, I don't think so. Railroads and pods aren't "control" in a world with direct teleporting. While I consider you-know-who's pods tacky, they don't get used much. I'm all in favor of more railroads, since those are in general Linden infrastructure. I think your economic views cause you to see things in terms of "power" when that doesn't apply to SL. Because SL isn't RL. A land baron or communiity group may claim to have power, but the real power is LL. You worried about some individual having world control ambitions? Well technically any resident has zero power, w are just allowed the "illusion" of power and the ability to earn L$. We really ought to start thinking of ourselves not as "Residents" with "power", but as "Users" with none. IMHO they should never have called us Residents, it caused some of use to become too psychologically invested and think of ourselves as "Citizens with a vote" instead of just users. Are you sure about that? We all have our interests and we might not notice something that isn't in our "spheres of interest" Depends on the pictures, but the Avatar Vanity demographic is large and they do something that you like people to do in SL. Spend Money. Lots of Money. I spent $170 US$ just on improving my avatar in my first 12 days in SL back in 2006, and I have hit the buy L$ button many many times since then. I'm also premium. Those girly-girls and couples filling up their Bellisseria homes with cute gacha'd tchotchkes and putting in cute gazebos or gardens and taking pictures are good PR for SL. Improved Windlight helps make said pictures prettier. But they have! It might not be in the way you want them to, but they have done so. Plenty of businesses make money in SL. Sure you can, because most people, including me, use the term "Land Baron" for anyone who owns a goodly amount of land who then rents it out to others. They don't pay in advance, they just get billed once a year and a once a year $72 payment is no big deal to them. No other explanation needed. What? As far as I know her company still operates in SL. Perhaps, but you'd have to convince businesses to advertise in SL when it hasn't worked all that well in the past. And we also live in a world where and SL business can start it's own blog or use flickr for promotional purposes...and in the SL fashion world...they do. That's a very good point you have made. So I'll say this, I'd support a pilot program of in-world advertising, to see if it is practical and how well it works. If it does, then it can be expanded. Which was one of the reasons I said what I did to Prok. Yes, SL is the queen and champeen and has bested all comers for reasons. And one of them is that while other worlds may have had advantages or done certain things better than SL...they didn't do EVERYTHING that SL does.
  21. That's what Flickr is for. Flickr IS popular with the SL fashion/pixel vanity community. And while Flickr free users are limited to their most recent 1000 photos, that's still a lot...and quite a few of the SL fashion/pixel vanity community has gone Pro with their Flickr accounts which removes that limit.
  22. That Functionality already exists with Calling Cards. Set up folders of your Roles, put the calling cards of the people with those Roles in those folders. Right click the folder and select "start conference chat"
  23. No, just no. The only people using billboards now are tacky mainland businesses living in the past. And besides who uses infohubs in a world of direct teleporting? Did you just time travel from 2004? And roadside billboards when you later say region crossings aren't important? And ads and store spaces at newbie landing places? But that would create a favored class, by routing newbies to whatever store or baron stuck in 2004 placed ads there. And who decides on the ads? If it's first come first serve, it would end up like Land did there for a while, with predatory businesses, buying up ads with bots or something. Besides, a lot of people are fed up with being swarmed with advertising in RL, maybe they want to see less of it in SL? That might not be a bad idea World buidling ambitions? Control people? I think you're reading too much into things. And what about the masses of people in Bellisseria and the Blake Sea with their boats? Grinding the axe against geeks again? The pictures that those artists take are good PR for SL! So you want LL to "fete" and show favoritism to business? To show favoritism to your business? Why should small mainland land barons still trying to live in the SL of 2005 receive favoritism? LL takes a hands off approach for a reason, and you of all people should know why. It's so they don' t get accused of creating a "Favored Inner Core", lets call it "FIC", pronounced like "Bic" as in the pen, because it's "In-ner" not "eye-ner". And what about the people who don't own businesses? And you can't say LL doesn't encourage economic activity when Marketplace is a thing! Not a mystery, it's people who keep their account because they might log in rarely, but like the thought of having a place of their own whenever they want it. After all, the premium fee was only $72 a year...not much in the age of netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime and MMO subscriptions if those people are lobbying Lindens to creat a socialist unicorn world, they've failed. Because SL has a ton of economic activity EVERY SECOND. Because it's tacky, and people are burned out over being overwhelmed with advertising in RL. Besides, SL is not RL no matter how much you want it to be. And plenty of businesses in SL make profit in the SL we have today. We don't need tacky signs at infohubs spamming newbies who don't know any better.
  24. Well now, that makes sense. Glad you're keeping an eye on the SSP's You cannot hide from us! We also have pitchforks and torches. 😉 I would lay money on that eventually becoming "Belliseria City" with an airport and marina.
  25. Not my parcel, but I found a parcel with this issue while exploring, parcel belongs to KeyundreCarter Resident. That should be enough for LL to find the parcel and help the owner.
