I'm just recently coming out of a slump.... during the slump I would login to host and that was all. Before the slump I would login several times a week and just hang out with friends at the club where I host or another blues club where I knew the DJ and knew I would see lots of my friends. So mostly just dancing and chatting and listening to the blues. I did take the time at Christmas to visit the snowy sims. There was a time when I would log in to SL whenever I had a spare moment and just see where the adventure took me. I'd shop or hunt or explore or some combination of the 3. Or I'd decorate my land, put up houses, furnish them, take pictures, take them down and put up others, fool around with making the few things I know how to make with prims. Or take classes, go to plays or live music events. Or create a brand new avatar and get them outfitted with everything they needed for as few Lindens as possible. I especially loved making new shapes. I wanted to try everything! I took one of these alts into Gor to see what that was all about. After a month of RP in Gor I knew that it wasn't for me. I spent another month RPing in Avilion as a faery. That was fun but there were too many rules. The first three years of my SL I was partnered with someone I met when I was 3 months old and we would have adventures together. We also cybered just about every day. I learned quite a bit about my sexuality in SL as it's such a safe place to explore that aspect of life. I loved exploring with him. I was enchanted with how close I could be with someone who lived in my computer. To this day I think that is the one thing I am still fascinated with, the depth of intimacy you can achieve when all the mundane day to day RL stuff doesn't get in the way.

So anyway, I was reading a thread and I was inspired to quote one of my guides to behavior and then I realized the thread was locked and I thought "Aha! I can post this on the derail thread. So anyway my guide is Thumper's father from the Bambi movie. Thumper suffered from brutal honesty and an inability to stop blurting out whatever he thought. Thumper's father says, "If you cant say something nice, don't say anything at all". Learning to keep still when hurtful thoughts spring to mind has been my goal ever since hearing this.

before I started hosting I had two premium accounts and between them they paid for my land. I didn't buy clothes I hunted for them. The two stipends allowed me to tip. I'd buy a few thousand Lindens about once every couple of months to make ends meet. So about $60 per year in addition to the 2 premium accounts Since I became a host my wardrobe has expanded quite a bit and I pay for clothes now instead of just enjoying the freebies. I never have to buy Lindens anymore but I still have the two premium accounts to cover my tier, and I tip a lot more generously than I used to . I could probably cover my premium accounts with my tips but it's already set up to get charged to my credit card. I suppose I could cash out the lindens to pay the creditcard but that seem like too much work.

me too! I have a rule that I constantly break; I stop shopping in January until I've unpacked everything I bought last year. I tend to throw all my new stuff into folders named with the month/year of purchase to be unpacked later. I will break the rule if I see a particularly good sale, or something new that I just have to have, but then I will go back to my folders and work on unpacking. I haven't done a whole twisted hunt in a while, I just hunt at my favorite stores now and skip to the end for the goodies. Before I got too busy, I used to use an alt to do the hunt and then after I unpacked I would go back and get any of the items that I especially like. That way the alts inventory got filled up and mine stayed clean. The reward for my rule is when I'm all done catching up on the unpacking, I find I've accumulated a bunch of Lindens so I can run out and shop again.

I do it. I value my privacy. I'm not terribly assertive and I have trouble telling people that I'm busy. So keeping my online status private lets me avoid my more gregarious friends who seem to feel the need to wave or say Hi whenever they see me log in. It's my SL, right? I set it up so it's most comfortable for me. I hate the thought of dropping anyone from my friends list, I don't want to reject people, I just need them to leave me alone sometimes. I don't automatically uncheck the eyeball on everyone, just the ones that intrude on my comfort zone. When I'm in the mood for conversation I go to places where I will see my friends. I host in a busy club and i get a lot of friend requests, I don't like to turn anyone down, that's just too unfriendly to me. My friends list is full of people that I don't even remember, because I very rarely unfriend anyone. I'm fine with that, I'd rather err on the side of not rejecting people.

my pet peeve is people who use obscure(to me) acronyms and assume that everyone else will know what they are talking about. I'm old and cranky today and tired of googling.

you might enjoy reading "How to change your mind - what the New Science of Psychedelics Teaches Us About Consciousness, Dying, Addiction, Depression, and Transcendence" by Michael Pollan. He writes about guided psychedelic trips which are a bit different than the unguided, wild and free trips I took over the years. One of the things that struck me was the fact that my heavy tripping years were less affected by my chronic depression than otherwise. I think it's possible I accidentally hit upon a way to self medicate to alleviate the depression due to my fondness for psychedelics during that time.

Hard to say for me, I started partaking at the age of 15....and I continued partaking until I was 27. I can't imagine what my consciousness might have been like without the experiences in those 12 years. I had no baseline established to compare to so to say there was a shift would be difficult. I do remember thinking towards the end that it was unlikely I would receive any new profound revelations were I to take one more trip.

When you say experience with psychotropics, are you saying your an old hippie who did a lot of drugs way back when? I'm curious because I'm one of them. Oh, never mind, I see that you explained this in a subsequent post

they still care if someone complains.... someone complained about my alt army and they made me turn all but 5 into bots. Even though they are not bots, they just seem like bots because of the nature of playing tiny empires it looks like they are just hanging about doing nothing. My neighbors thought I was hogging the sims resources and while the Lindens assured me that hogging resources didn't matter as long as I registered them as bots I didn't like the neighbors harassing me. So I moved the alt army into my Linden home where the neighbors don't have such a strong sense of community fairness. The Lindens suspended all the alt accounts until we resolved things.
