  1. Thanks, very good thread you've linked to, lots of interesting ideas from that
  2. I'm trying to create a roof with internal space where people can rez items. I've read a couple of times that this is problematic due to the Mesh being considered solid by Second Life. I've ran into this issue myself with my roof upload, it's a very simple roof, nothing fancy, but I can't rez items inside it. How do people go about creating a space like this with peple rezzing items inside in mind? Do you need to split it and upload it as different objects or is there a trick you can do to ensure the inside isn't solid?

  4. I think we wore him down! He was certainly Mr Positive at times, although always reasonable and well worded, even when people were preparing to mob him with pitchforks and torches for being so positive!
  5. Lexi Zelin wrote: And why exactly would we want to post SL **bleep** on amazon?? This is the first ive heard of this and I have to say it sounds pretty stupid people don't search for SL stuff on amazon hahha SL Products on Amazon. LL blogged about this recently: http://community.secondlife.com/t5/Featured-News/Second-Life-is-now-on-Amazon-With-a-Special-Promotion-This/ba-p/1798929
  6. I think you're putting two and two together and coming up with five. The Amazon link is only for US customers for a start, it's a newish process Amazon have launched called Amazon Game Connect for creators of free to play games etc. to use to sell their content to customers but it's not a means to replacing the marketplace here.
  7. Gadget Portal wrote: So, this is interesting. I recently came across a merchant in SL that states in his profile that he won't answer IMs and won't answer notecards, and for help you have to use his website, which requires your RL email. Isn't that against the TOS? I know you can AR someone for Disclosure > RL information. I wanted to contact a Linden recently, their profile says to email them or use the profile page and not to send them notecards. I wouldn't have thought asking to be contacted by email was a TOS violation but I can understand why some people might object to going that route.
  8. Another vote for Blender here, I've used it ona PC and a Mac, works fine on both.
  9. The marketplace is low cost entry, LL have built it up and even include a shop link in the viewer, of course the marketplace has hit inworld stores and by virtue, ventures that rented out shop space, that's a natural process of the marketplace but it's here and it's here to stay, so people need to adjust, or as many have done, tier down.
  10. Sassy Romano wrote: What about xstreet and onrez? They were online marketplaces so again your logic doesn't hold up. They didn't have the reach of the SL Marketplace, they also didn't have merged balances or links from the main website. Had LL not purchased Onrez and XStreet and simply built their own marketplace, they would have crushed both ventures after a period of futile resistance. The Marketplace has been a game changer, but you're right, people have to change with the times.
  11. Phil Deakins wrote: So it's the placing on hold, or deleting, the account that people think is bad. But what else can LL do? They can't downgrade it to basic, reclaim any land, and let the person continue to freely use their system while they still owe money. Well, they can, but they'd be idiots to do it. So what can they do? The issue is the account being deleted. Basic accounts don't get deleted. Sure, LL should not allow login whilst the debt is outstanding but premium accounts facing harsher penalties than basic accounts, isn't the best way of going about things.
  12. I think you're over complicating matters, sinks are destroyed Linden dollars, they vanish from the economy, the purpose of this is to keep demand for new Linden dollars in other parts of the economy. LL don't stock Linden Dollars, there's no need for them to do so as they can print as many as they want.
  13. Well you could contact the customer, explain to them that you've had a delivery failed message but can see that the item has been delivered and ask them to assist you, if you do this in a polite fashion the customers should have no issue with assisting you.
  14. So how long is this taking? 4 This used to be about 3 - 4 working days, if it's taking 8-9 fine but it would be nice to know that so I could time my cash outs better.
  15. Not seen anything like that Charlotte, definitely Jira it.
  16. Kerri Macarthur wrote: I've just done this too. With 249 as my maximum. I'm guessing they just put ££ into my paypal account when buyers are found? No, you have to cash out by processing your credit to get the money to your Paypal account.
  17. Why have you deeded everything? Anyway, you'll only get everything returned if you've got auto return turned on. However if you've deeded all the items make sure you can reclaim them first.
  18. Theresa Tennyson wrote: Note that they DIDN'T say, "While this might be interpreted as Adobe giving away software for free, BUT IT ISN'T." In a forum thread one of their guys said: "On behalf of Adobe Systems Incorporated ... You have heard wrong! Adobe is absolutely not providing free copies of CS2! What is true is that Adobe is terminating the activation servers for CS2 and that for existing licensed users of CS2 who need to reinstall their software, copies of CS2 that don't require activation but do require valid serial numbers are available. (Special serial numbers are provided on the page for each product download.) See <http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1114930>. You are only legally entitled to download and install with that serial number if you have a valid license to the product!" http://forums.adobe.com/message/4974662#4974662 However, initially you needed an Adobe ID to login and download the software, they've changed that now, I think they've basically given up the ghost on this and although they won't admit it's free, they do seem to be basically turning a blind eye to it.
  19. It's not supposed to be free, unless Adobe have changed their minds in the last 24 hours, it's only supposed to be for people who have CS2 and need to re-install it. The idea that it was free went viral yesterday but Adobe made a comment that it wasn't a freebie.
  20. Rolig Loon wrote: And of course, you know that they collect 5% on Marketplace sales. They don't collect on marketplace sales, that's a sink, those Linden Dollars are destroyed. Now by destroying them, it may mean they can sell Linden Dollars directly, but the marketplace commission is an indirect source of income for LL, it needs the other shoe to drop to complete the cycle.
  21. Kenbro Utu wrote: Crim Mip wrote: LL makes a fair amount of revenue from the sales of Ls and remember L's can be turned back into cash. I mused about this in another thread. Does LL actually put Lindens into the Exchange to sell? It has always been stated that buying and selling of Lindens on Lindex occurs between residents. They used to, Supply Linden was a currency trader. However quite a few months before LL removed the economic stats, there was no evidence of Supply Linden making any sales, they seemed to have tailed off. As LL don't publish the stats anymore, we don't know how such sales are going.
  22. Well things are what they are, places do have to adapt or die and with 12% of private regions vanishing from Second Life during 2012, then some are clearly dying, although there are a variety of reasons why those sims have vanished, it's certainly not all the fault of the marketplace, there are many other factors. The marketplace is here to stay, so people do have to deal with it and adjust their business models accordingly and yes it is similar to the bricks and mortar challenge facing high streets the world over. However, if Linden Lab struggle to find inroads into income streams other than tier payments, which is by far their primary income stream, then it's little wonder that sim owners fail to make inroads into alternative income streams too. I agree with you that some places can adjust and prosper, it takes some work and some creative thinking but it's not as easy as it once was.
  23. Tari Landar wrote: Marketplace is not the first of it's kind. It was SLex long before it was Xstreet. It was Xstreet long before it was Marketplace. Neither of those previous two killed off inworld shopping the way people are claiming Marketplace is. That's because SLex and XStreet did not have the reach of the SL Marketplace whereby LL can email virtually everyone with offers, it wasn't part of the official website, you needed different logins and balances weren't merged. The Marketplace has undoubtedly hit inworld shopping and the knock on effect of hitting roleplaying, entertainment and arts sims who used to offset costs by having rentals. As someone else above said, if your model is shop rentals, then you're on the rocky road to ruin, that's where we're at but the rise of the Marketplace has certainly played a large part in this changing face of shopping.
  24. I can't get past the enter base camp quest with the latest official beta viewer.
