Wires should snugly fit into ports. Please note doing this is an incredibly bad idea under normal circumstances and is a last ditch measure. This will default any and all security settings configured within your router, and will open your wireless connectivity to the public in most cases if it is part of said router. No. Rebooting a router does not disable the NAT firewall. Although it CAN be disabled, and you're right, that's not a good idea.

I don't have further advice for you... But get that problem fixed and then IM ME IN WORLD! I haven't heard from you in months and months, you naughty girl you! Where have you BEEN?! I thought you'd been eaten by hippos or some such.
  3. Also, I don't believe you need to actually deed the land. Just click the Set to Group button. This should allow group members to rez objects and set home position, etc.
  4. Someone else is reporting this problem too. Unfortunately, I don't have any answers, but maybe you can feel a tiny bit better knowing you're not the only one. My *guess* would be that it's a bug in the new 2.0 viewer. Download the Emerald viewer, http://www.modularsystems.sl, and give it a try
  5. Skydiving! You can get gear at Abbott's Aerodrome, and they have a free chute dispenser and launcher you can use. I have a launcher on the roof of my high rise in Masocado that's free to use, too. Sailing! Anything from a little dinghy to a big schooner. The Blake Sea, which borders our sim, provides LOTs of ocean to play in. There are formal races, too. Check out the Starboards Yacht Club. Romantic dancing. To the places already mentioned I will add the Moonglow Ballroom...a simple, open air dance floor by the ocean that's seldom crowded or lagged, and my own Masocado Nights ballroom, ditto.
  6. Did you place a market or a limit order? If you sold at market, your USD balance should show an increase right away. If you made a limit order, the $L become unavailable for use, but the order won't be filled until a buyer is found for your $L at the price you specified. If this transaction was made with your SL account (not your XStreet account), go to Dashboard/My Account/Manage $L and you should see your currency orders and their status.
  7. Ah, yes...I see that! So it would appear that LL has blocked the most convenient method of cashing out $L, transferring them to your XStreet account and selling them on the currency exchange there. Another great bit of progress from Our Friends At the Lab
  8. I can't say for sure, Oggie, but this may be something that's worried me ever since LL bought out XStreet. $USD transfers from XStreet to PayPal were almost always nearly instantaneous. $USD transfers from your LL account to PayPal almost always took 5 days or even longer. Now, LL has linked your XStreet and LL accounts much more closely...in effect, combining them, although you can still move $L from one "bucket" to the other. But by doing so, my guess is that all $USD cashouts are going to follow the much slower path tied to the LL account and its policies/processing methods.

And especially not when they believe it can make more money for the Lab if they proceed. And they really do think this is going to be a huge moneymaker for them. Pink Linden stated that the shiny model they're looking at is Apple's iPhone apps, where Apple gets a 30% cut of sales. LL may never charge that much, but that is the golden goose that they are trying to catch.
  10. Jessika.Rang wrote: "The visible area outside a sim boundry is called Void, and is visible only, not actual simulated space. No object can actually move past the region boundry and into the void space. However, parts of an object (linkset) can." The above is true perhaps for private estate sims - but even some of those are surrounded by ocean sims with navigatable water. Many mainland sims are ocean front (they border open water sims with navigatable water). I think its a little misleading to say areas outside a sim boundary are Voids (I envision poor noobs afraid to cross sim boundaries for fear of falling into Voids!). Well, yes. Sims (any sims) can be bordered by other sims, or by void. On the Map, void is a solid blue color, and is not divided into grid squares. When you click on it, it says "Invalid Location". Sims, on the other hand, always have a region name, and even if they are nothing but open water, they have a texture to them. In world, if you try to cam past a sim boundary into a void area, you'll notice that the ocean floor drops away to deep blue infinity, and that you can't ALT-Cam around any more...there's nothing to grab hold of. If you try to walk or fly into void, you just bounce off an invisible wall at the sim boundary...unless you sit on a big prim and then shove yourself out over the edge into the void, as has been previously discussed.
  11. One part of your connection you can get at is your router and DSL modem. Turn them off, wait 60 seconds, then turn them back on.
  12. There are several clubs that do something similar. You can see a moving starfield texture (1024x1024) in use at my ballroom Masocado Nights.
  13. A word more about boats. Boats can be real, driveable vehicles. They can adhere to the prim limits for vehicles (30 prims), or they can be of the "wearable" variety and consist of hundreds of prims. In either case, when they are being driven, no one can walk around on deck. All occupants have to remain seated. Most large yachts are not driveable at all. They are really a house, shaped like a boat. This isn't as much of a disappointment as it seems. After all, REAL yachts spend 90% or more of their time at the dock. If you really need to "travel" somewhere, just pack up your yacht, teleport to the exotic destination, and rez your floating home again. For actual travel, small boats are better. They are more likely to survive sim crossings, and less likely to get deleted out from under you with a "Region is Full" message. There are several sizeable areas of "live" water (as opposed to void) where you can sail your boat, and there are sailing clubs in SL that hold races and regattas.
  14. The more land you own (or rent) in a given region, the more prims you can rez there. A 512 m2 parcel will allow you 117 prims. A full region (65,000 m2) will allow you 15,000 prims. Keep in mind that the more land you own the more monthly tier (or rental) you will pay.
  15. Time for a lesson in SL clothing and body parts. Your avatar MUST have all of the following at all times: A shape, a skin, hair, and eyes. The only way to change these items is to wear a different item of the same type...you can't just take them off. The avatar has several clothing "layers". These are textures that are applied to the avatar mesh. You can have: Undershirt, Underpants, Socks, Gloves, Shirt, Jacket, Pants, and Skirt. There is also a clothing item called Shoes. More about shoes later. All of the clothing layers can be removed by right clicking your avatar, and selecting Take Off/Clothes/(the item you wish to remove). You can also right click them in your inventory and select Take Off from there, or in the Edit menu in the top menu bar. If they are modifiable, clothing layers can be modified in the Appearance settings. All of the clothing layers fit quite closely to the body. If you want clothes that have more bulk and shape to them, something else must be done. Enter "Prim attachments". Your avatar has something like 30 points to attach things to...your head, hands, chest, pelvis, feet, and so on. Lots of clothing has some parts that are worn in this way. ("Prim" is short for "geometric primitive"...the basic shapes from which all objects in SL are made.) Prim parts differ a bit from clothing layers. You put them on the same way...right click them in Inventory and select Wear. But you cannot affect them in the Appearance menu, and to take them off, you right click the item and select Detach (not Take Off). You can tweak their location on your body by right clicking them and selecting Edit. Then use the colored arrows that appear to position the object. (Holding down Ctrl will change the arrows to rotation handles. Ctrl+Shift will change the arrows to resizing handles). A couple of special notes about shoes and hair... The default, or "system hair" that you can edit with Appearance, looks pretty bad. Most people wear a hair item called a "baldy"...which is simply system hair with the sliders set to zero to give them a bald head. Along with this bald head "hair", they also wear a wig made up of prims. They look much more realistic. It's the same way with shoes. You buy some shoes, and unpack the box...and in it, you find three (or more) items. A "shoe base"...which has an icon in your inventory like a little shoe, and a left and right shoe object (little yellow cubes in your inventory). Just as you wear BOTH a bald head "hair" item and a prim hair "wig" object, you wear all three of these shoe items...the shoe base, and the two prim shoes. The shoe base is needed because it distorts your foot shape to conform to the shape of the shoe. By the way...set your foot size to 0 in the Appearance menu. Nearly all shoes in SL are designed to fit size 0 feet.
  16. Agreed, Denver. The whole Age Verification elephant is a failure anyway...false positives, false negatives, conflicts with various nations' disclosure laws...not to mention the way it gets confused with "account verification". The OP's problem was yet a third thing, though...their avatar's age. That is, the time since they created that SL account. You can be restricted from a parcel for a lot of reasons: - You aren't cleared for the Adult maturity rating (LL controls this one) - You don't have Payment info on file (An individual owner can turn this on for her parcel) - You aren't Age Verified (again, this is a landowner option) - Your account isn't old enough (security devices can be set to monitor this) - You aren't in the correct group (an owner level parcel setting) - You aren't on the access list (owner setting) - You are specifically on the ban list (owner setting) - The parcel is a damage enabled combat zone and snipers have the landing point zeroed in. - Everyone is excluded (banlines) With so many ways to be excluded, the wonder is that there ARE so many places we can go freely. There are over 30,000 regions in SL. So if you can't get into one, just shrug and say, "I got the boot...don't give a hoot".
  17. OK, a few things here. 1. Linden Homes are a sort of special case. You get 512 m2, 117 prims, and a house. You don't have to buy anything, and you don't have to pay tier on it. There are limitations...you can't buy additional land in that region, to add to your holdings and your available prims. You can't terraform. You can't build a skybox. You can't re-sell the land to someone else. 2. As an option, instead of taking the LH, you can get a pass on tier for the first 512 m2 you own anywhere else on the mainland. You must, however, buy the land in the first place. You can do this by buying it from its current owner, or by placing a successful bid in a land auction. Auctions can be found elsewhere on this website. Most people do it by buying from another resident. When you are in world, open the Map. Check the "view land for sale" box. Take a look anywhere on the mainland...you will see a lot of yellow areas. These are all parcels for sale. 3. You can also use Search to find land for sale. Be sure to only look at mainland. (Well, you can look at private estates, too...but they do not require a Premium membership, and you don't pay tier to LL, you pay rent to the estate owner). 4. Setting your tier level in My Account does NOT automatically give you land, or indeed cause you to pay that much money monthly. It is more of an informational tick mark that says, "I'm willing to pay this much per month, and own land up to this amount". 5. When you find a parcel you like that is for sale, teleport to it. Right click the ground and select About Land. Or just use the pie menu and select Purchase Land. Assuming you have the necessary amount of $L in your account, the land will be yours. It's that easy. 6. Land values are down right now, because LL has made an awful lot of new land in the last eight months. This means that you may want to consider several things. If the price seems too high, don't just buy the parcel. IM the owner and see if they are willing to negotiate. 7. Note the features of the land that may affect its value and its utility to you. Is it in a laggy sim full of clubs? Is it on the coast? If it is waterfront, is it really protected Linden-owned water, or a water parcel owned by someone else (who could build and block your access), or empty void where you can't travel? Is it "double prim" land? Are there really ugly builds all around? How about up in the sky? What is the maturity rating (PG, Mature, or Adult)? 8. When buying land, be careful. If you own more land than your tier level allows, even 1 square meter more, for ANY amount of time during a billing cycle, you will be billed for the increased tier level. Everyone will have their own "best size" for the amount of land they like. I find that 4096 m2 is sufficient for my needs, but 8192 m2 is much more comfortable and lets me build or rez lots and lots of things. At present, I own nearly 3/4 of a region, but much of that is taken up by rental property. I'm glad to see you wanting to own land...it makes SL much more interesting. However, you might want to consider renting for a while. Owning a Linden Home really doesn't teach you all the ins and outs of owning the more unrestricted land on the rest of the grid.
  18. Plus you DID get quite a few helpful responses in General Discussion, if I'm not mistaken Including some from some former Mentors. I guess you can take the Mentor group out of the list, but you can't take the Mentor out of the av.
  19. The OP is the one who can mark a question "Answered". That doesn't mean that discussion can't continue, just that the OP got a response that was satisfactory to them...and in this case, they did!
  20. You can list land for sale on XStreet. Land for rent, fuhgeddaboutid.
  21. I'm no Photoshop expert, but I am not sure flattening and saving as .png gets rid of the alpha channel. If any part of the image has transparency in it, it will be saved in the .png file (which supports alpha channels). I've uploaded .png files that I never intended to have any transparency, only to find that they produced alpha channel sorting errors when applied to prims, because somewhere in the file there were a few transparent pixels. That's why I suggested using a .tga format in 24 bits. No alpha channel, no transparency, no problems!
  22. I don't understand. You "made the frame in Photoshop"? You can make a frame TEXTURE in Photoshop, or you can put a frame around your photo image and then save the combination as a texture of a framed photograph. If you did the former, then I assume you are planning to have a frame prim, with the frame texture on it, and a photo prim, with the photo texture on it. If you did the latter, you can produce the illusion of a framed photo on a single prim. Or do you mean that your uploaded textures appear dark even before you put them on a prim? Dark when you first upload them and they appear in the texture viewing window on your screen? This could be because they have an alpha texture saved with them. To fix that, see my earlier comment about saving them as 24 bit TGA files. Or it might be because SL's gamma is different than the rest of your computer's. Check your Environment settings, the Advanced Sky editor, lighting tab.
  23. If it's to be a framed photo, don't make it transparent! An easy way to insure this is to save it as a 24 bit .TGA file instead of .PNG. Textures in SL often look dark because of the local light intensity. To make your photos stand out, set the texture to Full Bright. Make sure that the texture COLOR is the default white. Anything else will darken (and/or tint) your photo texture.
  24. What is different between your main and your alt? For example does your main have voice enabled, and your alt not?
  25. Hm. Well, if all the racers are using Emerald, they could DeRender everything in the adjoining sim. Not to mention everything they absolutely don't have to see in the race sim...
