  1. If you can't fly at the height your platform is set to, get a flight assist. There are many such...one popular one is called a "flight feather". While wearing your assist, you can fly to any altitude.
  2. A region can be set by its owner to only allow age verified residents, or only residents who have payment information on file, or both. Unfortunately, sometimes a region that has these restrictions experiences a "false positive" and excludes someone that it should not. Talk to the region owner. If toggling the setting does not correct the problem, you should both file support tickets with Linden Lab. Be sure to reference each other's ticket.
  3. You can't use a prepaid card with Linden Lab, but you CAN use it to buy $L at one of the reputable third party exchanges. I use VirWox.
  4. Linden Lab does not accept most pre-paid cards. If yours is not accepted, try buying $L from a reputable third party site such as VirWox.
  5. This is a complete scam. Do NOT give anyone your password, EVER. Also, Abuse Report this person for fraud. Include the relevant chat logs. If you aren't saving chat and IM logs, you can enable that in Preferences for use in the future.
  6. A "child avatar" is an avatar that LOOKS like a child. If their account is age verified, child avatars may go to sims of any maturity level. What is NOT allowed is "sexual age play"...using a child avatar to simulate having sex with a minor child. While having child avatars in a Gorean setting may technically be within the limits of this policy, please be aware that you are in a gray area. If someone objects and reports people in your area for age play, they may very well be banned from Second Life. You yourself will *probably* not be punished, but...you're walking very close to a line here, one that Linden Lab takes very seriously.
  7. In my opinion, Earn 2 Life is a scam. So are all the places that advertise "Earn Free $Lindens!" You can make a few $L playing the game "Linden Realms". Collect colored crystals, turn them in for money. You can get a job as a dancer, club host/greeter, or other positions. You can learn to make things, and sell them to other residents. (This is how most people make any significant amount of money in SL...but like any business, there are startup costs and success isn't guaranteed. By far the easiest way to get $L is to simply buy some with a credit card or a verified PayPal account.
  8. I have the same problem. Details: 1. I have a store, and an item listed on MP via Magic Box 2. Item is a notecard. Copy/Trans permissions. Sale price is $L0 (freebie) 3. Tried setting item to $L1. Doesn't work. 4. Tried resetting Magic Box. Doesn't work. 5. Tried putting item in its own folder and dragging folder to Merchant Outbox. Doesn't work. 6. Using Firestorm 4.0.1 viewer.
  9. The four styles available are: Japanese Hobbit A-Frame Contemporary Not all styles are always available. If you don't see the style you want, check back later.
  10. Since you can't Edit someone else's objects without permission, another way to see some information about them is to right click and select More/Inspect.
  11. The new Firestorm is in Beta. If you have a problem, do the following: 1. Join the in world Phoenix/Firestorm Support group. Ask your question in group chat. 2. If it's a bug, report it using the Firestorm JIRA, found at http://jira.phoenixviewer.com/secure/Dashboard.jspa
  12. If you were the only group member, LL deleted your group. Groups need at least two people in them to continue to exist (one of the people can be your own alternate account though). I'm not sure what can be done about group owned land if the group that owns it is dissolved, though.
  13. Cinnamon gave you a perfect answer. Pregnancy, like much else in Second Life, is all roleplay, 'let's pretend". If you WANT to be "pregnant", there are lots of props and toys you can get to add to the fun. If you don't, just ignore that silly message, your BF's equipment doesn't know what it's talking about. For more on pregnancy roleplay, see my blog post, "How Does Babby Grow?"
  14. You can nominate your location for inclusion in the Destination Guide...but Linden Lab decides what places actually get space there. Plus, it may not be as great as you may think it would be. See my blog post, "When Traffic Attacks!" If you still want to go for it, see this further information: http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/About-the-Second-Life-Destination-Guide/ta-p/700059
  15. Have you tried re-starting the region?
  16. You'll have to call Billing. If you have a non-technical issue related to billing concerns, you can call the Linden Lab billing team at the following toll-free numbers: US/Canada: 800-294-1067 France: 0805-101-490 Germany: 0800-664-5510 Japan: 0066-33-132-830 Portugal: 800-814-450 Spain: 800-300-560 UK: 0800-048-4646 Brazil: 0800-762-1132 Long distance (not free): 703-286-6277
  17. It might be that your group role does not have the ability to post IMs to the group chat. You can check that in the group window, under Roles and Abilities.
  18. There are some conflicting policy statements on this. Here is an excerpt from LL's policy on listing items for sale in the Marketplace... The following actions are disallowed. Note that these actions are disallowed by the Second Life Terms of Service, and are restated here for clarification. Listings for Real-World Goods or Services. The SL Marketplace is only for digital content and services that are designed and intended for use with the Second Life virtual world technology. We expressly prohibit the listing or sale of any and all goods or services designed or intended to be delivered in the real world, for example, delivered in person or mailed or shipped to a physical address.
But, on the same page, they also say... References to Other E-Commerce Websites. You are free to include references and links to your in-world stores or to your own personal websites, but please do not provide references or links to our competitors in your item listings.
Here's the page these were snipped from: https://marketplace.secondlife.com/listing_guidelines#references-to-other-ecommerce-websites In my opinion (I'm not an official spokesperson for Linden Lab), it's OK to do this. However, I would think you are going to face some potential problems. The main problem has to do with privacy. Second Life avatars are not required (and in fact, in most cases should not) disclose their Real Life identities. If you do know the RL identity of an SL user, the Terms of Service specifically prohibit you from sharing or using this information without the avatar's consent. Your service, I would guess, will require that you know the RL identity of your clients. As for your specific questions: No, don't ask permission from anyone. It's always better to ask for forgiveness than permission. No, you don't pay anyone a commission (unless you'd like to pay ME one, for this useful free advice!) Linden Lab collects their cut by charging you tier on the land where you build your store or kiosk or offices or whatever.
  19. "Shiny new computer"? Not with Windows XP and a 2400 graphics card. Jack, you traded the cow for "magic beans", I think.
  20. Technically, the virus did NOT come from SL. It came from your web browser. Notice the word "browser" in the infected directory. When you click a web link within SL, such as one someone sends you in chat or IM, a browser opens. This can be a browser window within the Second Life interface, or you can choose to have your regular web browser open a separate window. You can also have "browsers" open if you are within draw distance of an object that has had a media texture applied to one or more of its faces ("Media On A Prim") You are doing a right thing by having an antivirus program that scans web pages you open and provides a warning. I recommend being careful about clicking on URLs strangers give you, and disable the "autoplay media" function in your preferences. The SL viewer itself is free of viruses and malware. However, as long as we have the functionality in the browser to connect to the Web, we have to live with the same risks as any other internet user.
  21. Valerie may have a clue to the problem. Does your friend still own the land? Or did the hacker transfer the land to another account while he had control of your friend's account? Also, make sure he's doing it right. To unban someone, right click the ground, select About Land. Go to the Access tab. Highlight the name of the person to remove from the ban list and click Remove/Delete. If there are several parcels, this process has to be done for each of them.
  22. The tier level only shows the charge for your land. Your Premium membership fee is added on top of that. To see your total bill, go to Account/Account Summary. That will show your billing for Premium, and your billing for land tier, in separate sections.
  23. Make sure your software and hardware firewalls have the correct ports open. See this link http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Using-Second-Life-with-a-firewall/ta-p/1304539
