  2. Hi Ave, Checking that box is half the solution for running multiple copies. You also have to do a bit of futzing (that's technical jargon) to get the OS (whether Win or Mac) to understand that it shouldn't just move focus to a running copy of the viewer when you double click the app icon again. Here's a Wiki page dealing with this. It's got some old information in it, but that's actually been more useful to me than the most recent additions... https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Running_Multiple_Viewers If you are on WIndows, I think the "--multiple" addition to the Target field of the Shortcut may be what you need. Good luck!

  6. Hi Carl, A MacBook Pro of that vintage will struggle to keep up on a crowded sim. I've been reading that mesh hair and clothing designers often create terribly inefficient products. This may be because land impact (LI) doesn't matter for worn items. So designers can create prim hair like mine with 250 sculpties, or mesh hair with a bazillion polygons. Hair like that can send the Avatar Rendering Cost (ARC) to the moon, resulting in an overload of your graphics processor (GPU). If you are suffering a case of GPU overload, you will hear your laptop fans spool up before the crash as Mac OS tries to keep things cool. When that's not enough, it'll start throttling the GPU clock to reduce power dissipation. SL is finicky about that, and if the clock is thottled enough, it'll crash. If you are hearing the fans spin up when you encounter meshed people, go to Preferences->Graphics and reduce the "Maximum number of non-imposter avatars". Avatar imposters are 2D cardboard cutouts that replace the full 3D avatar. They are updated once a second or two, saving a considerable amount of work for the GPU. They don't look as nice, but they're better than crashing. Good luck!

  8. Hi Angel, LL's premium subscription fees are recurring. If you signed up for a year your CC account should be charged for the next year at the end of the current one. Of course if you've closed that CC account, that'll probably provoke an e-mail from LL stating they were unable to bill your card. If you do decide to downgrade to basic, make sure you do it before your next billing cycle ends, or you'll be on the hook for another one. Membership fees are not refundable. Have fun!
  9. Cameleon Lethecus wrote: Madelane McMasters, I thank you for your comment! I love the amount of engagment I have recieved from the SL Community on this topic. In response to your statement " I'd give them my RL information so they could ship to me; but they'd have no way of knowing Iwas also a customer in a virtual world" I must pose the question, what if they make purchase via Linden on their website for the RL good an option that they would like residents to utilize? Cam SL is an entertainment expense for me, and a very small one at that. I do not earn money here. So, to purchase real goods with L$, I'd have to pay the exchange fee, twice. I prefer to keep my virtual and real selves separate (so I can wreak havoc in either world without alienating the other) and there is no cost for me to do so. So, I do not forsee a circumstance in which I'd pay L$ for real goods.
  10. It currently costs me nothing to keep my RL identity away from SL merchants. So, any service offering such protection would be worth... nothing. If an SL merchant also sold goods in other virtual worlds, I'd have no problem purchasing from them there as Madelaine McMasters, or whoever. And if these same merchants had RL operations, I'd give them my RL information so they could ship to me. But they'd have no way of knowing I was also their customer in a virtual world. I have numerous online identities in professional forums, investment forums, here, there and everywhere. All of those identities are separate and only a very few are tied to my RL identity.
  11. Ya know, I've been in SL 6.5 years and I never experienced that particular TP problem. But I've sure enjoyed other people's accounts of it! ;-).
  12. Hi Barbara, It seems that the Outfits folder was never supposed to allow subfolders, and a recent bug fix removed that ability. Others discuss this here... http://community.secondlife.com/t5/Second-Life-Viewer/LL-V3-7-17-A-step-backwards/m-p/2839732

  14. Hi Antoni, I can't make sense of your statement. Try again in your native language and we'll try to translate. You can edit your question via "Options" on the right side of your question.
  15. Have you used BBB? They don't really exist in RL either.
  16. In addition to SaraCarena's advice, try right clicking where the hair or other missing attachment should be. That often brings it back.
  17. Hi Dlynnwin, Seanabrady's right. You can only post images to the profile feed directly from the snapshot window in-world. Many people open Flickr accounts and post links to pictures there in the feed. People have also complained of snaphots getting stuck in "processing". That's happened to me. If that ever happens to you, click on your name (above "Home") in the profile feed, then find the pesky image post, click the little drop down box over on the right edge of the post and select "Delete post".
  18. That is an interesting idea, Lovely. I wonder how long it would take for a Godwin memorial to pop up for an ex-CEO. ;-).
  19. valerie Inshan wrote: Any daring laboratory rat tested it for SL? Upgrade or not, that is the question! Hiya, Val! I'm running Yosemite on all my Macs. I was in-world briefly this morning and survived. And thank you so much for calling me a rat. It's nice to be appreciated. ;-).
  20. Hi CaptK, Your landmarks are inventory objects. They're saved on the SL servers. If you can't find them, your local inventory cache may need bebuilding. Here's how to do that... https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Inventory_loss#Clearing_Second_Life.27s_cache You can also search for landmarks in inventory by clicking the little gear icon at the bottom of the inventory window, then selecting "Show Filters". Click the "None" button and then check "Landmarks". Good luck!
  21. Hi Gwen, This problem has popped up before. Nalates Urriah discusses it here... http://blog.nalates.net/2014/09/23/second-life-problem-2014-39/ Good luck!
  22. Lindal, that link goes to the Answers home page, not to the post you intended.
  23. Hi dawn, I've never created a mesh object, but if it's at all like texturing a prim, you'd either drag the texture directly to the face, or check "Select face" at the top of the build window before selecting the face you wish to texture. I mention this only because I recall being pleasantly surprised when I discovered how to select individual faces years ago. Good luck!
