  1. The idea that there may be tolerance for some error in computing (i.e. 'good enough') is new to me. As one who worked many years in quality assurance/control as it pertains to the collection, analysis and reporting of clinical trial data I know how challenging it can be for those who work with the data to tolerate anything more than zero error. It was only when I illustrated the path data take from patient experience to final output, and where error can be introduced at any one or more points in the process, that I was able to communicate to internal users that 'we' can control only part of the journey. So, we assume we are working with imperfection to start and our job is to contain the imperfection. Understanding the impact research medicines have on patient populations is a bit different than what is described in your snippet and the linked article but I had to find some way to relate my experience. I can understand the challenge development teams have in determining the quality metric to define the acceptable level of end-user experience for 'good enough' computing. Sounds like there are some big brains looking at this problem.
  2. The OP may be asking because they wonder if someone else can see their real age. /me waves to Griff :smileyhappy:
  3. ZoeTick wrote In other news . . . has anybody seen Larry recently? Larry is alive and well posting on the feed and occasionally inworld. I chatted with him inworld a few days ago and he said nothing about hiding out from the authorities.

What is your favourite hair colour? I shall answer a question with a question. What colour hair is *your* hair? :matte-motes-bored:

  7. I am challenged imagining what it is you are attaching that is not moving with the limb to which it is attached. Can you post a photo or describe? P.S. I do not think that you can link attachments you are wearing.
  8. When you return all the items together to your inventory, they appear as a coalesced item. While I have never experienced one object being linked to another when unpacking (unless I linked them to start), perhaps this is what you mean. If you 'return all' they won't go neatly into their individual folders as they would have if you picked up each object one at a time. If you are concerned about accidentally deleting a non-copy item, then perhaps you should gather your objects one-at-a-time.
  9. Perhaps you haven't yet passed your background check. Wait another week and see.
  10. No, what you experience is not the norm. You might check the systems requirements page https://secondlife.com/my/support/system-requirements/?lang=en-US but that may not have been updated in awhile. Unfortunately, you will need to invest in some software/hardware updates in order to use SL properly.
  11. In my opinion, [NikotiN] have the best animations with their smoking paraphernalia. You can get a variety of smokes and tailor them to male or female, duration of the smoke, etc. They are really quite easy to use. Check them out here: https://marketplace.secondlife.com/stores/33577
  12. Try posting this question in Land > Wanted (pick the type: Homestead, full sim, or Mainland) and see if anyone there can help you. Good luck.
  13. I guess they are re-thinking the whole 'documentary in Portland, OR' idea.
  14. You can reactivate an account after you have cancelled it and it will cost a modest fee. The longer the account is dormant, the longer it may take to reactivate it and, if it has been quite a long time, you may get your avatar without an inventory or a reduced inventory. Just something to keep in mind.

  16. Short answer to the question you pose is 'yes'.
  17. One never really 'owns' land in SL. Whether paying rent to another resident or tier to LL, there is some ongoing cost involved after the initial purchase. The fee may be weekly or monthly. For example, I live on a modest island parcel where I pay rent once/month. If I want to move, I just stop paying the rent rock and move on. So, no, you cannot own land without paying something on a regular basis.
  18. Still, the advice given to raise yourself the funds to purchase the furry avatar is sound. Good luck!
  19. You might also want to post this in the Commerce > Wanted subforum. Good luck!
  20. This brought back memories. I was a n00b in early 2007 and I exclusively used the grid map and green dots to find places where there was some activity. I had no knowledge of any type of guide even though the starter area was filled with maps. My computer then was not really geared for 'gaming' graphics. Even so, using that green dot method I found some friendly places, some odd places, and some places to which I never returned. One example is finding a lesbian furry dance club. Once I realized what it was, I had already been greeted by several avatars and felt welcome. I stayed around for a few dances and chatted. Unfortunately, I did not LM the place and never returned. LL could improve upon the search function but residents need to know it exists and works to use it.
  21. Sanguai wrote: I don't have a credit card just yet... But I really want an avatar because you can't pay with mobile because of fee problems, can someone please buy me this kemono furry avatar? I don't even know if it's allowed, but it's all I want. https://marketplace.secondlife.com/p/UTILIZATOR-Kemono/6070005? But, but you've been in SL long enough to know that if you REALLY want something that is not free you must earn it. If you do not have a job inworld, get that credit card. Of course, you might be a minor and not have one 'just yet'. Begging is just a no-no.
  22. I agree with Ariel's recommendation to find a handful of animations (stands, walks, etc) you like and load them up into either a free HUD or, if you use Firestorm, into their built-in AO feature. Vista packages come with many options you may not wish to use or use very rarely. Customizing your AO will ensure that you have the animations that work best for your avatar. You can purchase animations individually and then, once loaded, can be confident that how you move is unique and suits you.
