  1. I've been selling things in SL for 6 years, and it is always a puzzle to me that sales will dry up for a week or two, then trickle back. So far June has been a below average month for me. It seems like MP has been more of a struggle than usual to use, I gave up a couple of rounds of shopping out of frustration. At any rate, my sales have actually picked up this week, I sold more things yesterday than I did all of last week. Go figure.
  2. Yes, mesh clothing will work with classic avatars. But be sure you try on the demo, do not even think of buying mesh clothes without trying the demo, especially fitted mesh. Most of the mesh clothes I have seen do not animate very well at all, unless you mask out the underlying avatar mesh with an alpha mash. And even with alpha mask, most items I have tried just do not look good when I dance. Only a handful of designers make mesh stuff that I consider worth buying.
  3. OMG, its as big a disaster as Microsoft replacing DOS with Windows. And then, on top if it all, abandoning XP!
  4. Nova, you took the words I was thinking as I read the rant, and posted them before I could. SL is for me, and for most of my friends, entertainment. And compared to other forms of entertainment such as going to the movies, or dinning out, a really good bargain. The ground work for SL was laid back when our computers were running Windows 2000. Time for an update, if you ask me. The process of doing it is fraught, and lots of room for failure. But rotting in place is not a good long term strategy.
  5. Every club in SL is privately owned and operated by an SL resident, none of them are run by LL. And the owner of the establishment, can set whatever rules they like. For example, some clubs allow only human avatars, no furries or robots. I know a couple of places that want only humans, dressed in evening clothes. I remember one club that required you to be a member, and required you to let them have a look at you, to be sure that your avatar was of high enough "quality". Some allow only female avatars, and some of *them* allow only human female avatars, whilst others allow any species or style, as long as female. There is no uniform rule. They can boot you just because they do not like your name, and they are under no obligation to tell you why or justify the ban. As several others have mentioned, the 30 day rule is not uncommon as a way of dealing with griefers, but it is by no means universal. Welcom to SL, I hope you enjoy it!
  6. ~ 7.5 yrs, ~ 11.5 k items in inventory. But, a few k of them are links, often to the same actual item, but thats how the appearance tab saves outfits. Links count 1 each in inventory, just like items. But do they have the same impact, when trying to rebuild your cache?
  7. "liquid mesh" has been expanded, is now called "fitted mesh", and is officially supported by LL since Feb 2014. I think you will need to update your viewer, more people are offering more things using it. http://community.secondlife.com/t5/Featured-News/Fitted-Mesh-Is-Here/ba-p/2461687
  8. I have "lived" on the same SL mainland sim for 6 years, and I have seen a goodly number of this kind of griefer attack near my home. Not so much the last couple of years, but every now and then. LL has *always* fixed them promptly. Usually less than an hour after filing an AR, never more than overnight. Now, I can easily believe that there are instances when LL lets something go on forever. But my personal, actual experience has been quite different. Just sayin.
  9. I have not noticed anything much out of the ordinary lately. I happen to have places in 3 different sims where I can go to work on my outfits. I have noticed for quite a while, they are not always the same. Sometimes one region or another will be intolerabley slow, until LL responds to a support ticket and resets the sim. Anyhow, and for what its worth, I find that often, when my outfits are slow to rez, changing the sim can make a big difference. Good luck!
  10. When I look at transactions history, for things I have sold on marketplace.... Description: Order #135427nnnn Item #530nnnn What the hell did I just sell? I have to build a database for cross refference? Now the price is a clue, but really... the items have name? Hard to imagine a more opaque reporting system.
  11. It is a largish group, just over 3000. And i know all about the settings for opting out of group messages/notices. The problem is that the group notices do not go out to avatars who are not logged in. At least for the group of interest. Lots of others have so many notices that I turn them off. The one group I really care about seems to be special, and not in a good way. Group notices go only to people who are logged in, they are not stored for later login, or forwarded to email. Unlike any other group. I have admiistrative privs on the group. But I cannot see a way to change things, the settings look just fine, the same settings work for other groups. Looking for clues to a workaround......
  12. for bouncing boobs, I include weight to the new LEFT_PEC and RIGHT_PEC bones. Don't expect miricles, though. You have to trade-off "fit" for "follow". If you want the new mesh to follow the actual avatar physics, you have to wieght those bones so heavily that you need to custom fit the mesh to the avatar. Or, you can make it much more tolearant of different avatar shapes, but at the expense of not following the avatar jiggles very well, and needing to alpha mask out the actual avatar breast.
  13. I know that there are numerous issues with groups and group chats, etc. I have not followed all that closely... I belong to a group. Where the group notices do not seem to be sent to offline avatars. At least to my alt and me. Going to try another alt too, but the pattern that seems to be forming.... This group (but not lots of others) seems to have trouble sending out group notices to anyone who is not currently online. Lots of other groups I have known have had to be silenced because of group notices 10 time a day, but my group of interest cannot seem to send off even one. Other than keeping my fingers crossed and waitng for a fix to the larger issues.... any practical advice??
  14. I use Blender for making jewelry, it is *much* better than using basic prims or sculpties. And yes, you need to have Blender create a UV map. The SL uploader will not always take a model unless is includes the UV map, so make sure you do a minimal unwrap before you save the .dae file. The ability to make and manipulate the UV map is one of the things I like the most about using blender for this purpose. And you can do other things in Blender like, Ambient Occlusion, or Normal maps, or setting up lights and baking highlights onto your textures. Blender is an excellent choice for this kind of work.
  15. I've not used this particular HUD, but I own several, and I know how the scripts work. The ad seems to imply that you can control anyone's #RLV folder at any time, and that is not quite true. What you can do with scripts is detect active RLV relays. IF the relay was set by your target to automatically accept input from anyone, then you have access to the #RLV folder. However, most relays I have run into are set to "ask", so your target will be asked if they are interested in having you rummage around, and they may well decline the request. Also, many relays have the ablitiy to tell if they have been scanned, so when you scan the room, don't be surprised if someone should notice.
  16. I use wifi a lot when I travel, and the first thing I check when I log in using a new router is the packet loss that I am experienceing in SL. From the main window, the help>about pull down generates a report, and the last line of the report has packet loss. Anything over 1% starts causing me noticable lag, while somewhere around 4 or 5 % becomes unplayable for me And it does happen that a server that has 1% packet loss in the afternood, ends up with 10% in the early eveining when there are lots of users on the system. My home ISP provides a wifi router as part of the package, and while everything else about the server works fine, it has a *terrible* wifi signal; we plug or own router in to the ISP with a wire, and have a signal that works great for SL. >10% packet loss with the one device <~ 0.1% with the other. So, wifi *can* work just fine. But a lot depends on your particular router. Good luck
  17. Its possible to have several versions of a piece of clothing in mesh, but only show one at a time with a script. However, it is really hard to avoid alpha sorting issues, at least in my experience.
  18. FWIT, I've been in SL for 7 years, and when I started, I opened a dedicated email account. So far, I have never seen a single piece of spam. So SL must be doing something right.
  19. Such things are available on MarketPlace. Poking around the "building objects and components" category turned up this: https://marketplace.secondlife.com/p/Diamond-Sculpt-map-Full-Perm/1065643 I have to add though, that I would look further, there are likely mesh diamonds out there. And mesh is a lot better for this kind of object than sculpties: With mesh you have much better control over LOD, and a mesh diamond will have far fewer vertices than a sculptie.
  20. The biggest impact for me is turning down the number of non-imposter Avatars. If I run in a window that takes up about half the area of my screen, I get about 50% higer frame rate. Decreasing the draw distance helps me some. Although this has minimal impact on how fast I can walk aroung, it allows the room turn from gray to rezzed faster. I've never been able to see any impact on my own fps from clothing/attachment or from the number of scripts I have on. Once, I took a very detailed, prim heavy pair of boots that had 140 (removable, thank goodness) resizing scripts in each boot. I went up to wearing 10 pairs, at various attachment points, my fps just did not seem to care. (It was in a mainland sim that was full to capacity with avatars. Hopefuly my resource hogging test did not cause too many of them to crash). I suspect that as with lots of other things in SL, the details of your machine and internet connection matter a lot, so your milage may vary.
  21. OMG. A female avatar that looks even worse than the default avatar. And this is meant to help retain newbies? My first impulse was to look for the UV maps and have some fun. But the female avatar is copy only, so no such luck. Then I undressed it had a close look. The shoulder joints - they look like they were done with pipecleaners. And the crotch area reminds me of nothing so much as gumby. A nice enough demonstration of the technology, but coyote ugly is not the best base for it.
  22. For what its worth... Your problems are not familiar to me. I regualary get onto SL from a mobile 4G hotspot (a Verizon JetPack), and have never seen such a thing. Good luck with your problem.
  23. Well, no, it does not fit your shape.... but it lets you use your shape slider values! The fact that the result is not quite the same as your SL shape is just one of those inconvenient truths.
  24. "know issue"???? So, if I understand, now is not a good time to change your password on the beta grid? I think you just saved me some grief.
