  1. I use clearing cache as more of a first resort. With SL off, I navigate to the folder that has the cache, and delete the folder and all its contents. Then log onto a lindien sim, such as Hatton or Hippo Hollow. Only takes a few minutes, and fixes enough problems that it is worth the trouble. IMHO.
  2. fwiw..... I've had a dedicated email account for SL, over nine years. Never gotten *any* spam.
  3. Happier with stability of $L, say with respect to UK pounds, or even Euros. Cannot understand why exchange rate does not swing up and down more.
  4. What they said, Well worth the money.
  5. Works great on my laptop: CPU: Intel® Core i7-4710HQ CPU @ 2.50GHz (2494.21 MHz) Memory: 24526 MB OS Version: Microsoft Windows 10 64-bit (Build 10586) Graphics Card Vendor: NVIDIA Corporation Graphics Card: GeForce GTX 980M/PCIe/SSE2 Windows Graphics Driver Version: 10.18.0013.6472 OpenGL Version: 4.5.0 NVIDIA 364.72n An Asus, and far from the bottom of the line.
  6. The most popular mesh bodies are compatible with the Omega system (Slink was an exception, last time I looked). And I like the way clothing layers look when applied to the layers of a mesh avatar, rather than painted on tight with the default avatars. The clothing layer of my Maitriya, and most others, lets an applied bikini actually look like a bikini.
  7. jelly babies, yes. You can change the limit on render weight from the defaul 80,000. Turning the limit up or down makes very little difference for me, but I have a fairly high end machine. Most clubs I go to have more avitars over the default than not. But experiment, see what level is best for you.
  8. some laptops work great. Not lowend, though. Mine handles ultra graphics in most of the places I go, got to dial it back in busy sims. 9. Welcome to the bleeding edge! You expected perfection in a first release? BTW, if you are going to moan, you should provide more info about your setup than "my very good and very common graphics card" Go to Help>about. I use fs, but the same thing works with the other viewers. You get a report like this, lets others see what you have, and *maybe* make a useful suggestion. help>about firestorm: CPU: Intel® Core i7-4710HQ CPU @ 2.50GHz (2494.23 MHz) Memory: 24526 MB OS Version: Microsoft Windows 10 64-bit (Build 10586) Graphics Card Vendor: NVIDIA Corporation Graphics Card: GeForce GTX 980M/PCIe/SSE2 Windows Graphics Driver Version: 10.18.0013.6472 OpenGL Version: 4.5.0 NVIDIA 364.72 RestrainedLove API: RLV v2.8.0 / RLVa v1.4.10a libcurl Version: libcurl/7.38.0 OpenSSL/1.0.1h zlib/1.2.8 J2C Decoder Version: KDU v7.7.1 Audio Driver Version: FMOD Ex 4.44.61 LLCEFLib/CEF Version: 1.5.3.FS6-(CEF-WIN-3.2526.1366.g8617e7c-32) (Chrome 47.0.2526.80) Voice Server Version: Vivox 4.6.0017.21209 Settings mode: Firestorm Viewer Skin: Firestorm (Grey) Font Used: Deja Vu (96 dpi) Font Size Adjustment: 0 pt UI Scaling: 1.15 Draw distance: 128 m Bandwidth: 1000 kbit/s LOD factor: 2 Render quality: High-Ultra (6/7) Advanced Lighting Model: Yes Texture memory: 512 MB (1) VFS (cache) creation time (UTC): 2016-6-24T4:55:37 Built with MSVC version 1800 Packets Lost: 0/1,053 (0.0%)
  10. Easy enough to get the applier kit.Although for the clothing layers, I prefer the Omega applier to the Maitriya dev kit stuff. And good luck getting a kit to let you make mesh clothes, Maitriya's unwillingness to share is a big negative, imho
  11. I've been turning on the Avatar render weight display when I go to clubs lately (advanced menu>performance tools>show render weight for avatars, in FireStorm). Usually about half the avatars in a club have >80,000, and `150 -250 k is not at all unusual. Its clear that gummy limit value effects frame rate, but likely in a very machine dependant way. When I go to a busy place, monitor my frame rate, and play with the limit value, I only see a small increase in frame rate. And making half the people in the room invisible is a ridiculous price to pay to move my FR from 25 to 28. But I have a high end machine, so YMMV.
  12. It rarely takes me more than a few minutes to rez in a crowded place like that, but I have a high-end graphics card. A lot of the problem is that the fit-mesh avatars, and mesh clothing, take up a *lot* more resources than the orgiginal avatars and systems clothing. I had to use my 8 year old relic laptop for a week recently, I found it quite helpful (for rezzing after TP) to limit the draw distance, and to only allow 2 or 3 non-imposter avatars. Also, the latest LL viewer introduces "jelly babies". About half the avatars I encounter (including me) exceed the default limit on avatar complexity. I am a bit skeptical, but it *is* released. https://community.secondlife.com/t5/Featured-News/Why-are-all-these-people-made-of-colored-jelly/ba-p/3031255
  13. I get really confused if I run more than three. But as far as I know, now limit, other than your computer.
  14. Not even a review, just contacting a popular boot maker about dissatisfaction with a particlulary badly textured pair of boots. Got a prompt reply and gift certificate for twice my expense. And banned from the sim, so there was no way to use it. lol. you can be banned on a whim, nothing to help it.
  15. Been in SL for 9 years, and I have had exactly 1 person offer me a calling card. I do keep them around so I can look at the history of my Friends list, but thats the only thing I know they are good for.
  16. stocking layers and tatoos rarely coexist nicely. They both need alpha blending to look good, but often unless one is set to alpha blocking, the other will disappear. I like the button on Maitryia that removes all the textures from the various layers, so I can try sheer things like stockings one at a time, and then in various combinations with other layers.
  17. I've had no issues with the 3.5 hud, at least if I run with a maximized window. If I run with a smaller window, it tends to get lost, off to the side. I have a collection of other huds that work just fine in a reduced window, but Maitryea hud, and a few others, don't auto adjust to the window size.
  18. I upgraded to win 10 recently, it was completely without problems for me. I did not notice any effect on SL. In my experience, I would be a lot more suspicious of my internet connection than I would on my windows version. Almost always when I have a problem with SL, and test my connection with speedtest.net, I find my DL speed is way below my average, at least if I test right away. My ISP is pretty good most of the time, but is subject occasional patches of well below aveage performance, and SL does not like these patches at all. My "bad patches" are typically only for a few minutes at a time.
  19. With Firestorm, you used to be able to double click a spot, and TP there even on a sim with a LP set. But LL made FS take out that feature. Evidently, it rubbed some sim owners the wrong way, and at the end of the day, the sim owner owns the sim.
  20. Sassy Romano wrote: And there's the problem with mesh bodies in a nutshell. If the creator doesn't make available a suitable creator kit around which creators can model clothing and weighting, you won't get items made for them. Maitreya has only about 30 creators who have been given the kit, TMP seem to have disappeared... Slink are still issuing kits. You should have done some research before choosing to buy into one of these limit in offering, closed creation systems. yeah, I do not understand why Maitreya is so tight with the dev kits. Sold over $L200, 000 to maitreya users, but I am stuck with trial and error. I do have a TMP kit, but they are far too much trouble to bother with. Thank god for Omega, else I would abandon the whole mesh thing. Yeah, the avatars are a bit nicer, but so much easier to outfit a standard SL avatar.
  21. I upgraded to win10 today. The smoothest upgrade ever. And so far, I have not found a case of having to change anything for most of my software, my desk top looks just like it did before. The only SL issue was that I had to re-enter my password. All my settings and logs are still hooked up as I had configured them.
  22. /me sighs.... About what I figured, but thanks for confirming.
  23. This is a user forum, the lindens rarely read our posts here. But the topic has come up over and over again, and the answer is, no, you cannot change your username, it is frozen in concrete, nothing can be done. But you are free to change your display name. https://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Usernames-and-display-names/ta-p/700173
  24. I've been making various appliers for various mesh bodies. Almost none of them let you script directly, I end up having to use either a proprietary applier, or the (wonderful) Omega applier. BUt to activate any of them, I need to "touch" a patch on a hud. (patch being a hud that has been glued to the rest of them) Is there any way to "touch" an object from a script? I can think of so many entertaining things one could make.
  25. A very annoying, perstistant issue for me, and not just for Maitreya. Sometimes, after TP, I look fine to myself, but am invisible to everyone else. When it does happen, I cannot remove the mesh body, it seems frozen in my viewer. Inablitly to remove it is the only symptom that I can see in my own viewer. If I do relog, doing nothing, it always has fixed the problem, so far. If I try to take off the mesh body before I relog, then it is gone after the relog. A similar, and likely related issue, sometimes the HUD for the body gets frozen too. And will not detach without a relog. And is always fixed by a simple relog. And if I try to detach it before relog, it will be gone after the relog. I am currently trying some different attachment points, I had been using avatar center for the body. But I do not know if using a different attachement point will help, I just switched yesteray, not enough experience yet.
