  1. Sounds like it is MP "feature" then. Ugh. But a profile link is a *great* idea, thank you!
  2. I sell a variety of M and A items in my store. I search on an item, it comes right up, and if I click "visit my store", it works, and I see all my wares, just fine. But if instead of searching items, I search on merchants/stores, the only thing that comes back it the one and only G item is the only thing I see, if my search prefs in MP are set to G/M/A. (If I set the search prefs to A, I get everything, including all the M and the one G item, but A is not really much good for most of the stuff I ever search on) So it looks like telling someone, "Yeah, just look up my name one Marketplace" is a pretty useless thing to do. Or is there some configuration trick I am missing?
  3. If you go to help>about (your viewer name), you will get a nice report than you can copy and paste into a post. The info in the report can be a big help when asking others what might be wrong. 4. I tried it last week. First an SL Go account, using an email address and create a password, neither on needs to be tied to your SL account. I was logging in from my laptop, so I downloaded the appropriate software for windows. I did not try a mobile app, but the download left be able to log in using either the SL viewer or Firestorm. When I chose the viewer, it cranked up on their server, looking pretty much as normal, and I could log into SL using my regular SL log-in and password, or I could log in as a alt. Worked great. Did not quite get 50 fps in a crowded sim, but it did reach at least 40 in most places, and a lot faster in an unloaded sim. Pretty cool, seeing full resolution SL with minimal lag. Two things I did not like, though. The viewer runs on their server, so you cannot do things like upload textures or mesh models, and you cannot save pics to your own hard drive. So, it is a non-starter if you want to build. And, I never did figure out how to access the chat and IM logs. And it is a bit annoying that it only seems to run in full screen mode. The main problem is that it uses more data than any program I have ever seen. Even if I throttle the frame rate down to a max of 25, it uses 5 to 50 times the data than I normally use, depending on the sim. While I usually use about 1 GB/day, sometimes 2GB, one evening of SL GO managed to gobble up 8 GB of data, 4 times more than any day in the last couple of months. My ISP usually gives me abouot 20 Mbps download, but occasionaly drops to 5 or 10. SL Go does not like a "slow" internet connection.
  5. When I have shadows enabled, I get somewhere between 5 and 50 fps, depending on the sim. 50, up on my building platform, 5 in a heavily landscaped or avatar rich environment. Shadows do put a load on your machine.
  6. Just moved $L10,000 into an alt account for safe keeping. Created 5 years ago, she is *never* online, I don't know a safer way to store Lindens.
  7. (oops, necro post. Still, SL GO is in the news again, now supporting Firestorm, so I will let it stand) I tried it for a day, just cancelled the account though. The rendering was impressive! And to was easy enough to use. 30 fps in a lively sim about the best I saw, still impressive. It did not like my mouse very much, it was way more touchy than in any application I have seen, but that is a very minor nit. But .... No way to upload mesh or textures or photos. No local textures. Hmmm, I did not try taking a pic, not sure it would have worked, seems like the viewer can only access SL GO drives. So, chat and IM logs are virtually unusable, at least the way I use them. And it only runs in full screen mode. I guess there is no need to have the Gimp layer clickable, no uploads anyway. But for me, the real show stopper its enormous use of data. I had some hope that having them compute the 3d image and send me the 2d frames would reduce the amount of data I use. I often rely my wireless hotspot for weeks at a time, and was hoping it might reduce data use. So I was surprised to see that I used 5 times as much data last night than I had on any night in the last month. Made some quick comparisons. First in a poplular music hangout. My regular connection was using about 5 MB/min, SL GO, used about 36MB/min Then I went to my building platform, all alone up in the sky. SL GO was blazing away at 150 fps! And using about 110 Mbps to do it. Throttling back the max frame rate to 25 helped a bit, dropped the data rate to about 75 Mbps. Using my own set up, I was getting 100 fps, but it took less than 1 Mbps to do it (I had my music off). So, exquisite rendering vs no building, and enormous data use. Not worth it for me.
  8. Checked back on and off all day. It was finally working again, just before I went to bed. Last year, just about this time, it was down for weeks!. Hours is a lot better.
  9. For me, anyway. I changed my password to update the test grid inventory, and suddenly I cannot upload mesh models. After a long wait, I get a message about the model not loading, due to a network error. And, all of a sudden, when I log in, the region I was in is "not available", and I end up on some odd bit of abandoned land. I can create prime, and if I change my inventory, it stays changed from log in to log in, but no mesh uploads. Anyone else? I've seen worse on the test grid, but always nice to know I am not alone. (I already changed passwords, just in case that would help.)
  10. I have a small but growing collection. As noted by others, they all have strong points and weak points. My favorite by far is the *KL* Lena (Perky or Lush). Thats because the avatar has modify permission, I can make my own appliers and directly write onto the avatar meshes. It only has two layers, so tattoos are a bit of a problem, but at least there is no alpha sorting disaster, like there is with the Physique. And being able to script my own appliers is very importanant to me. I hear that Eve has modify perms too, I think she will be my next try. A word about the "use your own shape" thing. Yes, you can use your own SL shape with any of them. But they will all give you different actual shapes, some radically different. If you want to approximate the same shape as your SL avatar, be prepared to do a lot of tuning with the sliders. THey all do respond to the shape sliders, but they are all rigged differently, and so none of them respond in quite the same way to any given slider. So, for instance, if I want to wear a necklace, I need to make a separtate copy of the necklace, and custom size and fit it for each different avatar. And some necklaces which work fine with the SL avatar, get swallowd by the rigged mesh when animated, depending on how the creator chose to rig the shoulder region. And a lot of my existing mesh clothing will not work with any of the mesh avatars, no matter what I do with sliders. Some can be salvaged with the alpha masking huds, but those huds are in general not nearly as precise as the alpha mask for a legacy avatar. I keep mine collection mostly as a hobby, learning the technology. And for nakie dancing, because they are way too hard to dress.
  11. I just wish someone would block Fox "News". I always feel ill used when I look at one of thier propaganda pieces.
  12. I came up with a simialr number, but by a different method. I measured how high the seats are for my RL furniture using a tape measure, then measured the height of simialar furniture in SL, buy rezzing cubes, and ajdusting to match the height of various piece. The ratio of average seat height in SL to average seat height in RL was observed to be ~ 1.2.
  13. Is there some way to offer a demo object On MP, without having to make the demo object into it's own listing? I'd like to make it so that someone searching on "trinket" only gets a hit on "Rhys' trinket", and not on "Rhys' trinket DEMO". (along with all the other trinkets out there)
  14. More groups? Next thing you know, you will be asking for last names back again. You just have to reconsile yourself to the fact that these are technical feats, far beyond the skills of the Lindens.

Not to mention belleza's body is so ugly. Those cankles and elephant legs. 3999L? Please give me one reason why I'd choose belleza's body over wowmeh or slink's which costs less than 1/3 the price of it and has .... You might not like the shape, and they may or may not be overpriced, but Belleza bodies are mod, So were the Womeh's, but they are off the market now, sadly. I was badly misinformed, the Belleza bodies are indeed no mod. I am bitterly disappointed. With a modifyable avatar, I can put in my own custom built and scripted appliers, even make external controllers for others to use on my clothing layers. So, for instance, I have a top that I made for myself, when I take it off using my applier, i have scripted my nipple peircings automatically appear. Impossible to do with a no-mod avatar with clunly applier support, easy if you can roll your own. That makes the mod avi a lot more valuable to me. But value is a subjective thing.
  16. I am genuinely surprised that you were successful with the DCMA, given that the copy cat had built it from scratch, using your work as a model, and not just copyinging the prims somehow, and retexturing. And especially if they took design that was originally executed in prims, and re did it in mesh. My understanding of copyright law is that unless I steal the actual prims or textures, and as long as I do not call it the same name and represent it as the same build, re doing an existing design is perfectly legal.
  17. There are lots of cliques and such in SL. Not gonna find the good ones in search though. They tend to be more ... welll.... clique-like.
  18. So far, all the "applier kit" appliers I have looked at are extremely clunky, and to use them I need to have to each instance of the script wrapped up in a clickable prim on my hud. Only touch operated, and only by me. On the other hand, if I drop my own listener script into the mesh body, I can do precisely what I want and trigger the "application" from a script or with a chat command. This lets me make some fun toys. So, inspite of the nice shapes of the avatars, Slink and Mesh Project have both been junked from my inventory. If I can't play with the mesh, I have no interest.

If they don't respond, I flip the sofa over and try to shake them off. There's joy to be found in almost everything. At my home, I keep damage enabled and a shotgun, for just this kind of situation. I ask them to leave politely, but if that does not work ... Sadly, they almost always go poof, before I can pull the trigger.
  20. Well ctrl-shift-R will take you to wireframe (if nothing is locked in RLV). That will give you some insight. But if you just wanted to see the texured body..... no help.
  21. I run two instances of FS at the same time, on occasion, with two different avatars. I find that it makes things run more smoothly if the two avi's have different caches, and settings.xml files. The cache is set from preferences while running FS. The settings file lives in C:\users\"you"\appdata\roaming\Firestorm\user_settings. Or in C:\users\"you"\appdata\roaming\SecondLife\user_settings. if you are using the official viewer. The appdata/roaming folder may be hidden, I think that widows hides it by default. My widows shortcut for starting FS has: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Firestorm-Release\Firestorm-Release.exe" --settings settings_firestorm--rhys.xml --set InstallLanguage en for my main avatar, and - settings settings_firestorm--alt.xml for the alt.
  22. Well, you could always make your own. avatar>appearence>new body parts>hair. Ignore the colors, set all the hair sliders and eyebrow sliders to zero. Voila! a bald head, fully modifiable!.
  23. sometimes, a given server can be very slow. When I run into clothes not loading, I usually switch sims, and that usually helps.
  24. It is possible, but nothing even close to easy. I know several people who have managed to find jobs hostessing and DJ'ing who supported themselves in SL in great style. Takes a lot of luck, and a lot of work, and a lot of the right personality meshing with the right place (places never last, btw), but its quite possible to earn the odd $L1000 a day, and have fun doing it. I know people who have done it for years. (Oh, and I am not talking excort or sex worker stuff, thats a whole different world)
