Not just that, let us live to which viewers can only use V.1 is not true that we are few. Okay, fact check time. The Phoenix developers themseves said that there were only 28,000 users still using Phoenix just before the SSA roll out. Of those, many were probably using the latest, mesh-supporting, SSE2-requiring Phoenix version - most of the objections to Firestorm were simply about the user interface. Of the remaining fraction, many were using the pre-mesh Phoenix because it ran better on their old hardware, but they weren't saying their old hardware was so old that they couldn't run newer viewers at all. Your problem is only for people with PC's that are over about 10 years old, and they weren't running SL "perfectly." Czari's computer, one of the last available non-SSE2 computers, was giving slow framerates at minimum settings despite having what was once a fairly high-end video card. I fully sympathise with people who can't afford things they need. However, I have NO sympathy for people who distort or ignore the facts to try and get what they WANT. I've officially stopped sympathising with.... YOU.

It's not and that reflects poorly on LL. The only thing that is saving them here is that they allow for Third Party Viewers. Why? Linden Lab isn't in the viewer business; they're in the server business. Actually the viewer is a net liability because they have to provide support. If they attempted to "gain market share" by adding features THEY'D need to explain to someone how to un-de-render their partner, and in fact they'd need to pay someone to do that. I use the analogy that the viewer is the equivalent of the free hangers a dry-cleaner gives you. And anyway, the "Viewer of Choice" is currently Firestorm, which is 98% Viewer 3 as the Firestorm developers will point out themselves. And this way the Firestorm developers have to put up with the BAWWWW of the majority of users - I read their JIRA. Firestorm staffers also have the advantage of not being paid, which means they have the freedom to tell someone to pound sand if that's what that person really should do. I'm surprised they don't do it more often.

Singularity and all other TPV seem to make the format and names different from the official viewer and use OLD outdated format. For which you got used to using. So your beef should be with third party viewers not sticking to the original formats. This in turn makes it impossible for TPV users to help new residents who come to SL because the buttons and format are not the same Seems like it is all your fault here lol My bolding above. No it doesn't make it impossible, just difficult at times. As far as these "old button names" are concerned, we do need to remember who renamed some of the buttons in the first place. The company that designed the failure that was Viewer 2 perchance? Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. An interesting thought. But you know, whenever I think about the topic, I always feel that the Viewer of Choice, the Viewer that the Majority of people use, should be the Official Viewer, with the TPV's catering to a niche market of specialty users. But instead it is the other way around. The primary niche Market for the Official Viewer is Newbies. And that is mainly because when they register, they don't know there are other (better?) options. And quite obviously, among the majority of those who stick around, they quickly find that using a TPV is a better option. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm Here's an interesting thought for Rodvik on new user retention: "You only get one chance at a first impression." Could there be some low hanging fruit there? Actually I believe that the Linden Lab viewer was already a minority viewer before Viewer 2 was released and one of the reasons for Viewer 2's redesign was how many people thought Viewer 1's interface was a hot mess - in other words, they realized "You only get one chance at a first impression." I started out on Viewer 2 in late 2010 and people tried to get me to switch to Phoenix back then. I took one look at it and said to myself, "What's up with this crap?!"

Sadie Chayoo wrote: Current outfit folder thing the official viewer has marked both folders as system folders-one is in clothing the other is an inventory system folder in the usual place what do I do ? There's your problem - SSA requires one and only one Current Outfit foldr - this is a known issue and Linden Lab can repair it. If you're Premium you can contact live chat 0 other than that you'll have to take out a support ticket.
  6. AMD Radeon cards have frequent, serious problems with Second LIfe because it's an open-source, multii-platform application that uses OpenGL as the graphics language instead of DirectX which most Windows game-type applications do. AMD's OpenGL drivers are a source of constant problems in SL and most other OpenGL applications- AMD treats OpenGL as a stepchild. If your primary interest is Second Life DO NOT BUY AN AMD RADEON VIDEO CARD. Whatever technical advantages your tech guy may be raving about will be utterly blown away by their Godawful drivers.
  7. Henri Beauchamp, the developer of CoolVL, strongly dislikes the idea of the Current Outfit folder, which is the cornerstone of the server-side baking process. Last I heard was that in his SSB-compatible version of CoolVL he used it grudgingly but set it up differently from any other viewer (he only used it for the baked portion of the avatar instead of all parts of the outfit like other viewers.) It sounds like this caused some sort of problem for your avatar. Linden Lab can repair inventories for multiple Current Outfit folders; the repair might work for you too.

I would really like to try this game. Roll your AMD drivers back to 13.4. AMD's OpenGL drivers are very reliable - you can usually rely on them to be completely hosed.
  9. I've heard other people having problems with the new Server Side Appearance and proxy networks. Don't know what you can do to fix it but I suspect that's where the problem lies.
  10. Hanako Alchemi wrote: No other programs have this issue, and some quick googling points to updates to OpenGL in the latest AMD drivers having to do with it, with SL failing several OpenGL calls when crashing on the new drivers. I have no idea how to see this issue addressed, as no other programs running their rendering off of OpenGL (such as Awesomenauts, which I play), have these crashes, and I feel that contacting SL support will push nothing along. I'm primarily concerned with finding a viewer that might run with the latest drivers and seeing if I can find others having the same issues. I don't expect this to be fixed, of course, as judging by Linden Lab's usual response time, I imagine this might be fixed in 2-3 years, assuming the drivers don't sort themselves out eventually. Awesomenauts is a 2D application - can't be logically compared to SL. What graphics mode are you running, regular mode or Lighting and Shadows/Advanced Lighting Model/Deferred Rendering? I've heard of people who crash with one viewer with the new AMD drivers and not other viewers. Have you tried changing graphics modes?
  11. Did you do what I suggested in my reply to your "Answers" post? I'll repeat it here: Make sure you have one and only one folder in your inventory labled "Current Outfit" and that it's sitting in your main inventory along with the system folders instead of being tucked into another folder. If you have more than one "Current Outfit" folder or it's buried inside another folder you need to contact Linden Lab support to have your inventory repaired.

People wearing mesh looked...interesting. I was blessed to be gifted money so I could purchase a new PC but, if I'm understanding correctly, Project Sunshine/SSB/SSA also needs the SEE2-enabled chip in the PC and I *think* that is what brujamai is referring to. It don't think SSE2 is technically necessary for server-side appearance - it really doesn't involve graphics changes. However, I doubt any viewer developers will bother to update any viewers that don't support mesh and therefore don't require SSE2. It's similar to wanting someone to make a converter to patch an MP3 player through an 8-track car stereo. It's POSSIBLE - you just need to find someone who thinks it's worth the trouble.

Marie Resch wrote: I'm not having any problems, because I did do a clean install; however, I don't want to be hassled going across the grid because othes haven't and they see me naked, if you know what I mean Thanks for the information. P.S. The major link in the middle of that information is apparently broken. It said page does not exist. I live on a region that's had server-side appearance running for weeks. Occasionally I'd briefly appear naked but only with a first bake from a region that didn't have SSA running to one that did if I'd changed clothes on the non-SSA region and were wearing specific types of outfits. Given that there are no longer any non-SSA regions this problem should be gone. Also, once you have a fully-clothed version of yourself on the servers everyone will see you that way regardless if they did a clean install or not. Nobody will see you naked now (unless, of course, you ARE naked.)
  14. Depending on where you live, it may be very possible to find a used or even free computer that would be SSE2 compliant. Look at thrift shops and church rummage sales. You can also look for refurbished computers on-line. There is a whole range of possibilities between a ten-year-old computer and a brand new one.

There's a "safety factor" built into the prim allowance so that if you put in prims up to the limit the sim shouldn't behave badly, especially with the new "land impact" scores which give a more realistic picture of server load. Also, regions have allowances for temporary prims, prims worn by avatars, etc. However, if there are people rezzing objects like vehicles you should allow a certain number of free prims - I think 256 should cover the biggest conceivable vehicle. Once a vehicle is "driven" it no longer applies to the base prim count.

  17. If they're doing things like scrolling through the chat box instead of not moving your avatar there should be a setting somewhere in preferences with a name like "Arrow keys always move me." If they're working off and on randomly you may need a new keyboard. I had to replace my keyboard a few months ago because of that - SL puts a big load on your arrow keys and the hardware can get worn out. If that's the problem you may see problems with your mouse too.

  20. Those symptoms are connection related and sound like DNS problems. See if switching to the Google public DNS helps.

Appearantly this configuration had no problems, until I received the recent viewer mentioned above in the subject. I've tried installing a Windows 8 update to my graphics drivers, and even have tried deleting the "app" information in the users directory of Windows (which deletes SL's cache). Nothing has fixed this, as most options but "transparent water, bump mapping and shiny, and local lights" are disabled, and I'm still getting "Your system contains a graphics card that Second Life doesn't recognize. This is often the case with new hardware that hasn't been tested yet with Second Life. It will probably be ok, but you may need to adjust your graphic settings." I hate to sound cranky, but my graphics card isn't new and I can't understand how they'd go from supporting my card to just dropping it in one day. Is anyone else having this issue? Thanks. But i do know last year it functioned fine on Sl's Viewer. Look it up there's posts out there about it. Seems it popped up officially in Version 3.2. Possibly sooner I didn't dig too far I admit. I use SL's viewer most of the time. Your time frame actually corresponds to the rollout of LOCAL textures, which still work.
  23. MalkinAmistery wrote: Well.. today the rollout became complete.. all "official" like.. Since the beginning of this "upgrade" I have had nothing but trouble.. and now.. it is worse than ever.. my sl freezes up intermittently, usually when actually trying to move or turn.. less so when camming.. and I have even turned my settings DOWN to get a tiny improvement... (like 1 fps).. Someone said that this has nothing to do with other prims/textures rezzing, but in fact it has to, why? Have they set up seperate servers for avatar baking? NO. Have they upgraded the servers in preperation for this? NO, Is this now putting more load on the existing servers? YES It is bound to be a failure, like most "upgrades" sl does.. the only thing we can hope for, is a few months from now, something gets tweaked by a fluke, and it improves.. otherwise.. welcome to the new age.. so they say. :matte-motes-evil-grin: Actually they HAVE set up separate servers for avatar baking. Therefore, it is actually putting LESS load on the simulator servers. Besides, server operation has next to nothing to do with viewer FPS. Did I miss "Opposite Day" again? Darn.
  24. Nash Sauber wrote: Also, as a for record, SL's Viewer Did have temporary texture upload abilities. So it was eventually sanctioned by SL as well as the other viewers. Thus a service they added then apparently removed. No less would be nice to have it back is all i'm saying. That's news to me, and probably to Linden Lab unless it was some sort of debug thing. Temporary textures were weird things that didn't behave the way the architecture was meant to - textures are supposed to be stored on asset servers and be called by the simulator but temporary textures were an almost parasitic thing that lived on the simulator server instead.
  25. lilmisslara wrote: I run the new sl viewer, as does my partner. I can see him, and everone else. He can see me, neither can anyone else. Why can everyone see him, hes running the same viewer? It sounds like there's a problem with something you were wearing at one time. Try either going to the "Avatar" button of the viewer or the "Library" area of your inventory and picking any other avatar to wear. If that makes you visible then you can try to rebuild the one you usually use by replacing the parts piece by piece.
