1. I'm curious, for the research you're doing asking questions here to get some anecdotes makes sense as a way to refine what you are investigating. How are you planning to collect data once you have an idea what the mechanisms are that result in RL behavior from SL input?
2. I'm very interested in the adult set of these achievements. I guess thats what INM is for.
3. Maybe someone else already mentioned it, but this reminds of an episode of Black Mirror where people are rated on interpersonal reactions. Jobs have minimum requirements for one's "social rating". Very dystopian and creepy.
4. Is there a link to the report where current active users are shown?
5. Have you tried this: Use this html: word or description you want
6. Fun post! Maybe you should post on the thread where the men are complaining about not being able to meet women and suggest they ask a woman to style their avatar for them, haha.
7. You're referring to the Choice Overload Bias or The Paradox of Choice I believe.
8. Seems like problems and challenges should be different here. Anyone can look however they want. What is left is your personality and how you interact with others. If you're a nice, engaging person, I don't think you'll have trouble here. Try the Thundr app. If you aren't able to meet women, I think the approach should be examined. Figure out how to make a sincere connection with someone, the rest should come easy after that.
9. The Physics P is the way to go. If you would like some help or more advice, the ladies who work at the X-Sisters Bar would be able to help, they sell these in their shop so you can get some advice and buy the unit in one stop. http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Lon Lon Ranch/239/224/31
10. Best of luck with getting your friend set up Chandra!!
11. I saw an article once showing the most common last names of SL avatars. I was quite amazed that so many people had the same ones. Definitely a dumb blonde moment for me. Wonder why they restricted it to such a small list.
12. This is interesting because in RL there is the 501st legion who do group Star Wars cosplay. As far as I know they haven't had any legal issues with Lucasfilm or now Disney. About as close to copyright infringement as you get with the requirements to have screen realistic costume to join. Maybe they have some kind of agreement in place, I'm not sure. Definitely gives the property good PR with all the charity and volunteer work they do, so maybe thats it.
13. Ohhh, you have to be logged into account in viewer?
14. I just started coming here, amazing how active the community is! Looking forward to learning more about this place that I've come to enjoy.
15. Does anyone know what the specific criteria are in terms of posts or age to view the Adult forums?
16. I was starting to think I completely misunderstood OP's post. Thanks for the very well thought out response. Not sure why all the hard disagreement, clearly the referenced article quotes the SL creator as having been inspired by what he experienced while attending Burning Man. I've never been to the event nor do I know much about it. But I can certainly understand the point about comradery brought about by shared hardship. SL can be a difficult place to navigate and I have always found people here who are gracious and generous enough to help. Maybe some are unwilling to accept how much overlap SL has with RL. Certainly the framework is different, but there can be a real sense of immersion. Real, meaningful relationships can be developed. There is also the benefit of being able to do things you would be unable to in real life. The further along I go in my SL journey the more it feels like what I read about in scifi literature that features virtual worlds. I was actually having a conversation with a friend recently about how surreal this place can be and she brought up the novel Snowcrash, so clearly some of us see the parallels. To the OP, sorry you're receiving so much critical commentary, I thought it was an interesting post.
17. Do the items get removed from IW altogether or just from MP? I found a Star Wars that had multiple vendor boxes for various in them costumes that were recommended by the RP community that used the sim. Haven't been there in a while so not sure if those are still around. I think it would be hard to monitor what people are selling IW, but definitely makes sense about marketplace removal. Big brands have been doing the same thing to people selling branded items secondhand on eBay and Amazon Marketplace. Thats been going on for years. Basically if the brand owner has they legal team send a letter, the platform will remove the item. As someone else pointed out, dealing with lawsuits is expensive and easier to just comply with the letters when received.
18. I'm glad I'm not the only who had this issue. I thought the feature had been disabled, good to know there is another option. FWIW right click to create new notecard still works in Firestorm.
19. I like blogs that are entertaining and imaginative. There is so much fun stuff out there, its interesting to see what other people do. I don't think I can post the links here, but ItsJess Skydancer writes some very adventurous stuff. The pictures are great and the content is very interesting. I
20. I think they are a good improvement over the previous starter avatars. The Blake avatar head/face is not great IMO, but the Jamie isn't too bad. Right they both seem limited for options with clothing. Perhaps that will change. I do applaud LL for investing in making the new user experience better. Hopefully it works as intended.
21. I have always been a fair writer, that translates so well to SL. Being able to emote and communicate effectively really opens a lot of doors here.
22. To each their own. I see this as a fun place to enter and explore. I'm not personally interested in owning land, but when I have looked into it, the upfront cost of owning it seems to be nominal in comparison to ongoing tier fees. Plenty of options to enjoy land that others have created, developed and maintained. Yes it can be expensive to buy things inworld, but thats a choice. One can find plenty to enjoy without spending a dime. Its really your experience to curate.
