  1. Special districts are a form of local government. They are created by their constituents to meet specific service needs for their communities. Most perform a single function such as water delivery, fire protection, wastewater or cemetery maintenance, to name a few. Some, like county service districts, provide multiple services. In my state special districts are: • Airport • Cemetery Maintenance • County Service • Diking • Domestic Water Supply • Drainage • Emergency Communication • Fire Protection • Geothermal Heating • Health • Heritage • Highway Lighting • Irrigation • Library • Mass Transit • Metropolitan Service • Park and Recreation • People’s Utility • Ports • Predator Control • Radio and Data • 9-1-1 Communications • Road Assessment • Sand Removal • Sanitary • Soil and Water Conservation • Special Road • Transportation • Vector Control • Water Control • Water Improvement • Weather Modification • Weed Control Every bit of it falls under government: state, county or city. It's all state, county or city taxes. You are taxed by the government, for the special districts.
  2. Just to be clear, it is city, county and state. City and county are considered local as far as taxes are concerned.
  3. Problem is Alaska is nearly deserted population wise. And Texas... well, there's good reason why I don't live there any more.
  4. You're obviously not an accountant and didn't get the joke. Oh well.
  5. Don't forget Alaska is much larger than Texas and Texas is larger than California.
  6. TN STATE tax is 7%. When you add county and city sales taxes to that is when you get the 9.75% Don't try to argue with an accountant. 🤭
  7. Well, we now know that there are least 500 File Thirteens currently. I wonder how many more it will take before someone at LL snaps and lowers the banhammer.
  8. I just stumbled across this. Now I am dedicating it to all my First Nations brothers, sisters, aunties and uncles, and everyone between.
  9. Guys will laugh at this even though it's the truth. The ones who laugh are probably also the ones who buy those pants.
  10. I'd wanted to ask why you put ground meat in the apple pie but then I realized it wasn't ground beef, like what comes in Dinty Moore cans now unlike long ago when you got real chunks of real beef. But I digress. Next time just let the layers of rolled out dough sink in, and you'll have a round cobbler. When it comes to apple pie it doesn't matter much what it looks like when it hits the bowl or plate as long as the flavor is right. It's all going to end up in the same place anyway.
  11. Group chats were not created for land use. They were created for people to communicate with a group of people (more than 2), regardless of the size of the group. They weren't intended to be used be really large groups of people like the Firestorm English support group or land baron groups or RP groups. They were intended for groups of friends to communicate. LL should have two kinds of groups. Business types and personal use. It will never happen though because money.
  12. And has absolutely nothing to do with what I said. Thanks for the uneeded lecture. WTF is wrong with you people today.
  13. Thanks for the insults. I'm not even going to bother to try and edit the word tools in after the word metric in the post you quoted. There was absolutely no reason to label my dad as a misogynist of any kind and insult me in the process.
  14. I used to live in Central Time and was always missing out on things in SL. Then, 16 years ago I moved to Pacific Time (SLT). Nothing changed except I still can't get a decent night's sleep. My body clock is forever stuck in CST.
  15. No, you don't just use them. FFS. My dad was an engineer (mechanical) and he hated metric. If humanity ever learns to leave well enough alone the planet might have a fighting chance.
  16. Because we mostly say March 15th instead of the 15th of March (or Ides of March). The year always comes last unless you're an accountant. 🤭
