  1. I did have some, but il have to see if they are still floating around somewhere. I think they are on an old gyazo, leave it with me till I finish work and il look
  2. Surely that’s the beauty of second life though. You can be anything you want to be. A few years back curiosity got the better of me and I went on an explore through the entirety (or as much as I could find) of the adult side of SL. And whether it was girls being trained as pony’s right through to latex clad pig human futa overweight hybrids with a c**k the size of a small bus, spinning spiral textures over the nipples and pulling 6 naked male slaves behind them...I saw it all. It made me appreciate just how diverse SL actually is.
  3. I thought for a second that link was named SL Shame Watch and I was immediately reminded of SL Secrets 😅
  4. Ability to split your store into sub stores / folders instead of the big ole mess with a few categories that we have now
  5. I wonder, when you take into account just how many people have joined, participated in and left SL over the years, how many linden dollars are floating around out there on peoples accounts that will never be put back into circulation. There has to be tens of millions easily. What do you think?
  6. Can you imagine the oldie rage. No longer shall they be able to look down upon others who have not been in SL as long as they!
  7. 1. You didn’t create this, it’s a freebie script that’s been around for years 2. targets+=[llGetSubString(llDetectedName(I),0,20)]; is the simplest way to get around your issue
  8. Right Group A, you focus on selling the creative aspects of SL. For gods sake whatever you do, DON’T let on that learning ANYTHING in SL now requires a few decades of study and definitely don’t tell them how many different programs you now need to “simply” create clothing. Remember, short and sweet “Second Life : Become a fashion designer and make money” Group B, you focus on selling the more social aspects of SL. Just be sure not to mention that most of us residents are social inepts who already have our own personal private cliques and definitely DON’T tell them that all newbies are viewed with the utmost suspicion and are generally shunned and hated until they are at least 30 days old. In fact, just go with “it’s like IMVU only better”
  9. I have a simple solution for my sim which does annoy some people but still. I don’t allow in any avatars that don’t have payment info on file. The majority of griefers or trolls are using throwaway accounts that they don’t want to link their RL details to.
  10. One thing I have always dreamed about is basic mesh modification being built into the viewer. Nothing fancy just a set of new prims to go alongside the old ones that let you move points, edges and faces, divide a few times etc. I know it will never happen but I can dream 😅. To save on the size of the download of said viewer you could create a modular viewer with a built in package download manager..I’m letting my imagination run away with me here 😂
  11. So much understanding that you couldn’t fathom at all why they had decided to charge for this service. Until it was literally explained out to you, you just heard something, saw red and decided to rant. If you had ANY understanding of businesses and how they operate, you would have had the answers already without them needing to be given to you. Which is exactly what is happening, where have you been hiding for the last year or two. If you didn’t feel at least a little violated you wouldn’t have took to the forum to harangue in such a hoity-toity way. You proclaim your intentions to not spend your money on a name change but instead on tier. Either way the lab gets your cash so..go lab! Opinion : “Hm, I really am unsure regarding the costs involved in changing ones name. I wonder what reasons the lab must have for this objectionable behaviour” Adam : “Charging for....WHAT TYPE OF HOLY FRITTERY THAT WONT AFFECT ME IS GOING ON HERE!!! I AM OFFENDED AND VIOLATED AND THOU SHALT NEVER HAVE MY MONEY!!! okay okay you can have it BUT ONLY FOR TIER!!”
  12. With all the discussions as of late regarding last names and premium I have noticed an increasing amount of negativity forming in the forum. So, let’s do something utterly off topic and move away from those subjects, at least for a little while, to give ourselves some breathing space. Okay, so let’s have a philosophical discussion. The premise is simple, I pose a question and we all try to answer / debate it amongst ourselves and if we are really lucky..come out the other end with a general consensus on what we think the solution is. The question (As we are all creative types) is as follows : What benefits does art provide society? Does art hurt society in any way? How do you even define what art is? Could a pile of laundry on the floor be considered art?
  13. By god you are right. How dare they...a company of all things...try to make a little extra money so they can keep the lights on for a few years longer. Never mind that those pesky enhancements they keep releasing such as EEP, Bakes on Mesh and Animesh require hours of paid coding and development. Never mind that they are trying to make up the short fall in the other various financial cuts they have made to things such as land. But you are 100% right, how dare they make you Adam Spark (the f are you btw?) pay for name change. No other game/world/experience does that....oh wait... It really isn't, I am glad you can tell the difference on that btw I was starting to worry. However let me elaborate.. ..what it is is a whole different name that better reflects your identity and allows you to be part of a larger less connected family. And if you are a resident you get a Spanky shiny new last name to go along with it. It allows couples to change their surname to a shared one to further their commitment to one another. It allows families in SL to all go under a single surname. It allows those avatars who haven't the creativity to think up something original to finally change their names from EhBibble123123 etc etc etc blah blah flog a dead donkey blah. AND it makes linden lab a little money on the side to go toward funding all of the new stuff they keep releasing. Go Lab! You are looking at it from too narrow a view point. I get that you feel absolutely violated by the labs sneaky underhanded charges and that you have you to come to the forum with a triumphal sense of derring do to set the record straight, demand justice and burn your jock strap. But..you seem to labouring under the impression that this name change only exists to give avatars a last name. It doesn't. You can change either your first name, your last name, or both. You can even change your base resident name to another resident name from what I gather. You could change yours to Madam Spark, don taffeta and strut about in heels whipping the house boy if you so did wish. Dealers choice! I sure hope that when I wake up in the morning my boobs will be bigger and my third nipple will have finally vanished and the masses will finally stop referring to me as "Triple Tit Witch" but sadly we don't always get what we want. Ya know I could go into a whole spiel here about the lab being a company, needing to turn a profit, investors to satisfy, staff to pay, increases in costs to make up for decreases in other areas, increased operating costs over the years and the decrease in population over the last decade, net profits, net loss etc etc but...I fear it would be lost on you so I will end with this... Chill child
  14. Do you feel so hard done to as a "second class" resident before or after... -Animesh -Bakes on Mesh -Lowering tier, increasing land count as far as 30k -EEP Project -All of the under the hood improvements -Moving to the cloud -New linden homes -Increasing the premium land ownership from 512 to 1024 -Various improvements to the marketplace ...All of which have been developed for the benefit of no one other than the "second class" residents you describe. Sounds pretty first class to me to be honest
  15. tl;dr version : They don’t like the 5% change. That’s what the whole open letter pretty much amounts to. I do wonder how many of the signatures are TheirAlt1, TheirAlt2, FriendsAlt1 😅. You really should have done this from a more credible account. As it stands your account is a random noob account with 0 credibility. Good luck though, I remember back in the day when Homesteads were first released, cost the same as a 1/4 sim and could hold as many residents as a full sim. Then the lindens changed all that by restricting the number of residents allowed, upping the cost etc etc and we had petitions, in world protests, angry virtual world news columns, upset residents gnawing the corners off their keyboards. And you want to know how successful we were? Not..at..all.. I may not like the 5% fully but it’s not THAT much of a big deal. Raise your prices by 10-20 lindens and it’s covered. At the end of the day the lab is a company and a company that doesn’t have the resident base it once had. It’s a company that is trying to stay a float in a world where the threat of being over taken or rendered fully obsolete is very real (see Sinespace for a possible example). The lab doesn’t just need money to keep the world working, they need money for wages, rent, cover the cost of all of the workers, bills AND try to make a profit. These improvements they keep rolling out don’t come cheap. You rant off about “kids” and “making a living” but you don’t consider that behind second life is a seriously talented team of individuals who all have their own kids, their own bills and their own rent/mortgage. And each one of these are sat there day after day trying to figure out the best way to keep second life going, make a profit and also KEEP it profitable for the residents. In my personal opinion looking at what we had In 2007 compared to what we have now I think the lab has done a smashing job really. Sure they stumble and sometimes they fall and sometimes they have to backtrack but looking at what they have actually managed to pull off over the years I can honestly say I’m nothing but impressed. Sure I would like things to be cheaper, free, land to be $50 a month. But if that happens chances are second life would go bye bye pretty quickly so this...what is happening right now..is fine by me. @Ebbe Linden @Patch Linden @Oz Linden @April Linden Thank you for your hard work and providing a beautiful wonderful place for all of us to feel safe, explore, create and make connections. Please keep this up so that we can enjoy our virtual home for many years to come!
  16. Okay. Time for a thought... Bringing the mentors back might be a good idea..BUT..how about some new mentors to go along with it. I remember the mentors from years ago and I agree in part with the OP. Some of the ones I encountered were on a power trip and acted as if THEY were second only to Linden Lab when in reality they were just another resident given a role to HELP people. One thing I have noticed also whilst attending the Linden talks, or SLB or any other event involving Linden Lab or Second Life is...that it's the usual suspects time and time again and you rarely if ever see anyone new. It is always the same person hosting, the same person helping, the same people coordinating, the same people building and so and so forth and whilst I understand that these residents are trusted and have earned that trust I feel that we have a grid full of creative, intelligent, funny and witty people who we could utilise also. I have nothing against those who are currently considered the "inner circle" but I think it is time to open that circle up to new and interesting people and start giving the wider grid a chance to be part of it. Just my thoughts
  17. Making money / Business : Right...after you spend a year and a day learning just one aspect of SL creativity to even remotely get to a level where people are actually going to be interested in your stuff and even then it’s hit and miss on whether you become successful. Socialising : Where...visit a public hub and you have trolls speaking utter weirdness on voice which isn’t particularly inviting for a new comer. Visit anywhere else and you better hope that the click you try to engage with are open enough to new comers or even approachable, otherwise your in for an unhappy time. The rest is empty sims or avatars wanting “sum fuk” Creativity : Creativity for the masses and the average user died in SL the day they introduced mesh. Once all it took to make something was to log in and Rez a few prims or right click to create some new clothing. Nowadays....too elitist, too much effort, most people don’t have the time or the energy to spend learning what is now a dauntingly huge task. To make decent mesh items and clothes, you better be ready to learn Blender, Avastar, Marvelous Designer, Substance Painter and even possibly Z Brush. Realtor : Sure if you don’t mind making 1 whole linden for every sim you own so that you have at least SOME chance of getting customers amongst the bought down / grandfathered land barons. Side thought. It would be neat when creating your avatar if you could choose what aspects of SL you want to engage in and then your starting inventory was tailored to match. So for example : Designer : Start with a few decent free texture packs, some modifiable clothing, plants, fences, trees, a small house etc...stuff, whatever you think a designer would need Scripter : Plenty off example scripts and projects in your inventory waiting for you. On HUD tutorial book taking you through the basic aspects. Examples of different HUD’s, basic combat system, game, npc etc etc etc Socialite : plenty of clothing to wear out, emote HUD’s, link hud updated constantly with the latest and newest hangout spots, tutorials on blocking, muting, reporting abuse etc etc...I’m sure you all can think up more for this category 3D Modeller : links to blender, various communities, groups, linden developed tutorials, free mesh models to play with and analyse, basic but understandable info on mesh complexity, aka teaching them right off the bat that a single baseball cap should not have a 900li count idk...ideas
  18. pedantic /pɪˈdantɪk/ adjective excessively concerned with minor details or rules; overscrupulous
  19. Don’t be so judgmental my dear.
  20. I think the clue is when someone says “oh I need to buy some lindens”. If you can’t figure that out then all hope is lost
  21. Don’t worry. I say Lindens instead of “Linden Dollars” all the time as do most people I know in SL. Ignore the prim and propers on this forum, they treat everything that differs away from their norm as being akin to witchcraft and voodoo.
  22. Hmm I don’t like this new body, it makes my hips look weird, I’m going back to using the default body
  23. This. I have been preaching exactly this now for the longest time. It started when they released mesh. Before that anyone could come to SL and start developing immediately using the in world tools provided. Even sculpture developers created sculpt packs that other developers could texture and mix up to create something new and unique. These days however it’s a market filled with 798373 versions of the same item with the top tier developers monopolising content and a distinct lack of potential developers due to the sheer learning curve now required to simply create say...a top. I love mesh, but I do miss the pre mesh days when everyone would have a go at creating, not just the select few and when there was more diversity than there is now
  24. I did hear a rumour the other day that the top tier payers will get topless photos of Oz Linden delivered to their inboxes on a monthly basis. Apparently those who sign up at Christmas also get pictures of Torley Linden dressed up as a naughty elf. But then these are just rumours. Who knows if there is any truth to them.
