  1. Removed...ignore. Was testing if there was a character limit on posts.
  2. Imagine if you could...inheritance in LSL. That would be so useful if you use the same custom function in multiple scripts
  3. *shrugs* Not everyone is going to stay to hang around. Not everyone is going to like your sim. Some might be looking for something specific and realise once they have landed that your sim is not it. If this is really triggering you that badly then you might as well log out of SL and go do something else because people teleporting in and then straight back out is something you will never change
  4. It's a possibility. I made something once that teleported you in front of or behind a person depending on which way they were looking. I did it using their rotation and my rotation and compared that if myRot.x and theirRot.x were within a certain range then they were looking at me, I at them, they had their back to me, my back to them etc etc. i am writing this on my phone so I can't post any code examples and there was a little bit more to it than that but that should give you a good starting point. You can also look at llMoveToTarget or llSetKeyframedMotion etc etc for the movement i would write more but I hate writing out long messages on my phone 😂
  5. Yes of course I am sympathetic towards the poor. I am not exactly rich myself and I am also THAT security guard I mentioned earlier 😅. And I also agree that democratic socialism might work. But what most people advocate for when you see them protesting is more like an anarchaic socialism without the democracy. We need democracy, some people in the world treat it like it's a swear word but I don't see it that way. I will also give you the point on there not being enough positions for my examples. What I was mainly aiming for was the distinction between say...becoming a refuse collector vs 10 years to become a pharmacist in an economy where everyone achieves the same. One requires much more effort than the other for no reward. Regarding capatlism, there are things I like as I stated. I like that I can progress up and amass wealth, it encourages innovation, a person can start out as nothing and progress up to something even if that might be difficult. There are things I hate. Disproportionate distribution of wealth resulting in poverty, pollution, diminishing natural resources, the nonsense that corporations try to pull on the consumer and capatlism is the reason why we have financial instability. I think there are advantages and disadvantages to all of the systems and taking the best from each is the best approach but as you stated democratic socialism could work also. Whatever it is that eventually replaces capatalism it needs to be thought through very carefully before being implemented. I for one do not want communism, I don't even think those advocating for communism truly understand what communism would entail and there are plenty of examples through recent history to show just how well that went down.
  6. I am not saying they should. I said earlier that I support what socialism offers. I just don't think that it works as a solitary system. I also fully support the raising of the minimum wage to an amount that allows all people to live a comfortable life free from poverty. In the examples you gave you hit the nail on the head with the kind of thing I am talking about. Taking out teaching as teaching is one of the few professions I think would thrive in a socialist society. But let's make some comparisons. Would you... Do back breaking manual labour vs Selling ice creams in a store on a pier would you.. Work in a restaurant under the stressful conditions experienced by hospitality employees vs Working at the crazy golf range handing out clubs all day long There needs to be a balance. Humans need a reason to strive and succeed but we also need to balance it out so those who can not strive as well as others are not left behind. So for example : -Higher minimum wage that allows people to live a comfortable existence and help raise them out of poverty -Free education and lower admission standards to combat the financial exclusivity of certain schools and benefits to accomplished tutors who are willing to teach at less "reputable" educational institutes -Free healthcare to all who need it -Free housing based on your circumstances and needs. Single person might get a small apartment, family might get a 3 bedroom house BUT, with the options for progression that capatalism offers so if people want more beyond the decent standard of living they are by default entitled to then it's down to them to put in the work in order to achieve that. With pure socialism or communism...that is not possible
  7. 😅 better call @GhostbusterBob . The Jedi are of no help now Side note : I have no idea who that is he just popped up when I typed ghostbusters
  8. I never said money. I said reward. In the case we speaking about that reward is money. Even if you take out money and you have only goods, the result it still the same. People will always want more and to feel rewarded for the work they do. 99% of the people out there are not going to do some of the kinds of work they do for spiritual or personal reward. They do it for the reward of stuff whether that's money or food or whatever. But my point stands, even if you take out money...no one is doing the hard job over the easy if the result is the same.
  9. So the alternative is?. I never disputed that capatalism was greedy, it is. I think you should also note the words "in some ways" not all, "some". But capatalism does motivate people. Motivates them to want more and to improve their situation. Any of the other options take away that motivation as there is no longer any incentive to need to progress and take on extra stresses when you can do significantly less for the same rewards. Think about the surgeons living in their mansions on hundreds of thousands a year, private doctors, dentists and even those on the other side sitting in factories doing repetitive monotonous day in day out work. You think many of them are going to put up with the stresses that those jobs entail when they could simply pick a easier path for the same results?. I stand by what i said. Capatlism + Socialism is the best method. Any single one does not work on its own
  10. Capatalism is older than 250 years. You are probably looking more realistically at 5-600 years with the rise of the first banking families. However, the seeds of capstalism have been around in humanity for much much much longer than that. You could argue the Catholic Church is one of the early examples of a corporation given the mass amount of wealth they acquired whilst the common peasant slaved and starved. You could argue that the workers of a particular piece of land who had to pay taxes to the rich lord who owned it whilst selling their product at the market to make enough money to survive is also a form of capitalism. And that last example was happening over 1000 years ago let alone 5-600. When we start moving away from capatalism we start moving more towards things like communism and socialism. The issue here is that unlike capitalism there is no reason to make the same level of effort to succeed in life as most things tend to be given to you. Which I am not saying is a bad thing and I quite support it but.. Communism is the state owning everything and everyone gets the same and moves away from democracy to create a one party state. Communism has never and will never work in practice because as much as it wants to abolish social classes and create a sense of equality...you only have to look at the historical examples of communism to see how well that works Socialism is the people owning everything and can be anti or pro market, is more democratically inclined than communism but is also fairly interchangeable in a lot of respects. There are already examples of socialist thinking out there in the world that capitalist countries have adopted. Free education, healthcare, work days etc etc. Here is where the problems begin. In socialism and capatalism the masses are supposed to be equal. With a more equal distribution of wealth, housing, resources, healthcare etc etc. A security guard who sits watching Netflix and does the occasional patrol is considered as equal in status and pay as the dentist. The difference between the two?. A university education and 5-8 years of hard study. But, here's the kicker..why would you bother. If you live in a society where you end up with exactly the same amount of resources...even if said resources amount to a significant value..you have no incentive to put in any of the work as there is no significant reward for doing so. Perhaps the few who have a genuine interest and desire to help people would train in these professions sure but a significant amount would not. For me personally I would sit back, put my feet up and get on with watching Netflix and occasionally poke my security torch around. I'm not putting in 5-8 years of hard effort for no reward. Capitalism in some ways is a necessary evil. It gives people a reason to try and a reason to want to succeed, to make a better life for themselves. Now don't think that I fully support capatalism, I don't. I think that capatalism on its own fails just as much as any of the other ideaologies. In my personal opinion what works the best is a mix of capatalism and socialism similar to what we have here in the U.K. I'm not saying the U.K is perfect it isn't, it has a long way to go and has nothing on the progression the Netherlands have made in these areas BUT its better than the alternatives
  11. You are over estimating humanity if you think capitalism is ever going anywhere.
  12. One person in the scripting sub forum but that's all
  13. This like comparing world of Warcraft to second life but imagining both running on the same hardware. One is a client side installed game where every modification and every character type, effects and physics are all already stored and downloaded ready to go. On a game like this the data being sent is minimal by comparison as most of it will be in the form of text updates to show movement or spell effects etc etc. The other is mostly client side but rather than being pre downloaded it's constantly downloading and uploading. A spell effect in SL requires the textures, particles, physics, script effects etc etc to be downloaded together as opposed to being readily available. Those who have said the comparisons are basically asinine are correct. SL has to download and upload at any given time to show the end user the changes, modification, new people etc etc for that particular region. Even if you compare SL to 7 Days to Die which is a custom mod heavy game, all of the game data is downloaded before you enter the world so all the "mods" are already available on your computer for that particular server. You are also discounting that in most MMORPG games the models used are optimised in ways models on SL just are not. You could be wearing a pair of pants right now that has millions of polys where hundreds would do. Its not really a comparison. Look at Sansar, HiFi, Sinespace they are even newer and they still suffer from some of these issues as they are asset heavy worlds that handle their assets and data differently to your average thousands of players MMO
  14. That's not even a choice. Goodbye streaming, music and videos. That is one aspect of SL I could care less about. I can't think of anything more boring than standing around in a club watching my avatar dance when I could be off doing something else with YouTube in the background.
  15. Hmm, well I won't tell you what to create as others have given you plenty of those kinds of examples. But, what I will do is give you some advice. Whatever it is you decide to do, if you really want to make a living from it, then go in to it as deep as you can. The more time you spend learning and designing and the more time you spend perfecting those small details or textures, the more popular, unique and well know your items will become. If you choose clothing do not become one of those people who make their very first pair of pants and rush to throw it up on marketplace. Look at your first pair and think "How can I improve this", "What would I do differently if I was to do this again". Learn from what you make and seek to improve and make the item better. Then once your clothing is looking to be of a decent standard start putting your items on marketplace and start looking at joining and creating for events. Speak to fashion bloggers and maybe for one or two of the most popular you could give them an outfit for free to experiment with for their blog. Run an in world group, regular updates, seasonal themed items etc etc. Exposure is key. Those individuals who truly succeed in the world and become the top players in their respective fields generally do not get there by luck. They are the ones found still working at 1am, 8 hours after all other workers or students have gone home / to bed. Making a living in SL is not as easy as it once was but it is still possible. You will just have to work for it. Good luck, and don't forget us lowly peasants on the forums if you do make it big. I like my Porsche in purple just saying
  16. I lasted a few episodes. The thing is it's exactly the type of show I would like. But that first season...it's soooooooo boring...I need to push through it to get to the good stuff but whenever I have tried I've been like "yeahhhhhhhh ehhhhhhhh uhhhhhhhh mehhhhhhh"
  17. The problem is. That it just wouldn't work. The moment you start handing out source code to even authorised developers is the moment that the risk increases dramatically. And the more developers that are authorised, the greater the risk becomes. One way maybe to approach it is to re design the SL viewer into a more...modular?...viewer where developers can create addons that other users can download or install from a preapproved viewer "marketplace". Maybe having some kind of API that developers can plug in to in order to change and modify things within the viewer without actually ever needing access to the source code itself. But the question is, would even this make it safe?. When it comes to third party developers the fact is you never truly know who it is you are dealing with. You mention firestorm and I have no reason to think that the firestorm team would ever do anything to abuse ours or the labs trust (not stating that is what you said btw) and they have built up an amazing rep over the years and Jessica and her team work harder than any other viewer developer I have seen. Yet, if you go back before the firestorm project it has its roots in the emerald viewer project and we all know what happened there. Btw I am not blaming Jessica or her team for that so if that's how it comes across then I apologise to them. I'm making the point that even the most trusted developers, like emerald which was used by many, can turn out to be the worst and what could be viewed, initially at least, as risky..such as the initial firestorm/phoenix project coming out of the emerald project..can turn out to be the best. But the fact is...this is all mute as the lab will probably never change how any of this is done. The viewer source will remain open, third parties will continue to develop at their leisure and bot viewers will continue to appear so why worry
  18. And to further on from what Wulfie said...you can't really prevent users from duplicating items either. Half of the software I used to use a long time ago to rip game models could be used in theory to do the same from SL without ever needing access to any source code or modded viewer. I don't condone this by the way, I haven't ripped a game model in a long long time but the point I'm making is that where there is a will there is a way. Plus if LL changed to 100% closed viewer development and everyone was forced to use the standard SL viewer I think Ebbe would be the first person in 200 years to be hunted down on the grounds of Heracy and possibly Witchcraft 😂😁
  19. I know I know, I was just bored and poking 😁
  20. Exactly what KT said. I have had that dude blocked for the longest time and only "peek" when I am bored and need a laugh
  21. My question to you is how can you hate something you have clearly never given a chance. You don't even know if you would like it to even start hating it.
  22. I actually liked the trailer by the end of it. I am going to remain open minded until I actually see the full movie. Sometimes even if a movie do don't fit your own personal expectations it doesn't necessarily make it a bad movie. Or...it will be awful....
  23. The new sonic movie actually doesn't look too bad in my opinion. Come on sonic geeks what are your thoughts and opinions?. At first watching the trailer I was like "ehhhhhhhh" but by the end I was like "ohhhhhhhh maybe"
  24. Hey, now listen here I will have you know.......that you make a completely fair point. My avatar in SL is cute and Asian and in RL I'm cute, not Asian and prone to excessive curvature which never seems to go on my bo*bs...curse you genetics...curse you
