  1. @CarlaWetter: As I understood things the version that improved region crossings was ....**722....**966 was a version to help the "uplift" to the cloud. Now I admit I have not been sailing for a few days, my last trip was so bad I've been avoiding Blake but today's (still unreported) roll was **966, so I don't think you are correct, but if you are I will gladly eat humble pie and sail off into the sunset!
  2. Interesting! I had expected the other server version...the one that improved region crossing! Especially as that has been seen to work! Just goes to show that LL are more interested in their finances than in making the SL experience better for us. I suppose I should have expected this. Maybe that is why they have been shy about announcing it! @steeljane42 possibly that extra roll was to regions in and around Blake Sea, so that we could sail and fly again with some likelihood of remaining on our craft. If so, a quick post to tell us that would not have hurt them. Now, one unpleasant thought - I dearly hope that those Main Server regions WERE moved to RC status, or they might be rolled to the other version today!
  3. This is ridiculous. The roll to Main Server channel should be starting about now, yet no detail as to WHAT we are getting? Come on LL, communicate!
  4. @JoyofRLC Acker: I understand that you only saw the notice after the work was completed but believe me the advance notice was flagged up correctly over the weekend. I take your point that it may never have reached the top line "In progress" status....not for the first time the op may have been asleep at the wheel! Now that's what I saw on the wepage, possibly the Twitter feed was different and I would assume that notifications to subscribers never got sent. ☚ī¸ In my experience it's well worth taking a good look around that page for oddities... the current "Region Maintenance" notice is a case in point....what on earth does it mean....to me it's "stand by your beds wherever you are"...but for what??
  5. @JoyofRLC Acker you say: I'm no apologist for LL but the work was clearly flagged up on the Grid Status page over the weekend, so I don't quite understand your reference to "hidden"?
  6. FWIW, my thoughts are that while LL are fiddling with..er...doing maintenance on their "Back-end" systems they'll have the good sense not to roll out any new code this week. Strangely last week my region WAS restarted despite only having been up for a week since the last roll...may have been a non-LL decision, of course. I realise that using the terms LL and good sense in the same sentence might appear reckless to some. 😁
  7. I vacillated a bit before posting this in case it came across as a moan. It's not but it DOES have a lot of relevance to current SL conditions. My partner and I sail qite a bit both East and West of Nautilus and around that island (or is it a continent, I have never been sure). What stikes me is that region crossings are now a lot worse that they were during good periods of the past. I would cite the amount of data needed to be transferred from region to region. That is why the oft-repeated advice to lower complexity and script load is effective....mostly. My contention is that THAT really ought to have been sorted by now. Region servers are far faster than they were in 2012 so much more data should be transferrable in a timely manner. The sad fact is that it isn't. LL have given servers far more to do now than they used to have to process and I guess the processing power is sucked up by these things...you have only to enter a region with even a modest amount of building to notice a substantial degradation in crossing performance. Does this really indicate that servers simply have too much to do, or am I barking up the wrong tree? And if I am on the right tack (not a typo but a nautical pun) what is to be done about it?
  8. This issue is now in the past but I just thought I'd note it here. The "Back-end system maintenance" that was undertaken this morning was on the correct date as noted on the GSP, unfortunately the OP that posted it failed to notice the Day/date gaffe. Today was indeed the 22nd July...it also is a Wednesday, not a Monday as the OP stated. No-one else noticed it or could not be bothered to correct or comment upon it. Trust me to play the pedant!
  9. @NikolaosSakamoto:I assume you understand the difference between pre-optimized and non optimized content and the graphics processing required to stream the latter? That is why most games load PCs far less than SL and therefore run much faster. If you would prefer an SL without user-created conent then maybe you would prefer Sansar? Oh...wait...Sansar was sold off since no-one wanted to use it......
  10. i'm not going to rain on Grumpity's parade but in my part of the world if you break it, you pay for it, or in this case, fix it. After all LL did break it!
  11. While I cannot be certain of this issue, I strongly suspect that your antivirus is preventing the operation of the viewers since all SL viewers open a number of ports to communicate with SL. What I suggest you try is to "whitelist" ther installation folder of a viewer you instal in your AV settings/exceptions. I'd advise whitelisting all the .exe files related to SL as well and the viewer's cache folder. Advice on how to do this is available on the Firestorm wiki, https://wiki.firestormviewer.org/antivirus_whitelisting
  12. @Maestro Linden Erm...Woods of Heaven has now been running for 14 days since its last restart by LL...this is the second time recently it has gone to 2 weeks without a restart, so I must assume the 10-day regime has been ended? FWIW it is still running pretty well with no obvious sign of a memory leak, so perhaps you (LL) have fixed something?
  13. @Liffento Eldritch: What on Earth are you talking about, this topic is over a week old now and we were asking for info for LAST week ie the week commencing 29th June. LL posted info eventually but later than usual affter we requested it. My problem is clearly blindness.
  14. As far as I know Linden Lab have divested themselves of Sansar and are no longer responsible for its operation in any way.
  15. @Derf Fairport: if this continues and you have made sure that the issue is not with your ISP or hardware, contact Linden Lab support, they need to look at your account.
  16. @animats: Yes...I like the description "semi-normal" state. If by that you mean with AO inoperative and half the few attachments I use when sailing gone, fine. Sailing around Blake is a lottery of region-crossing issues, but if one dares to enter a region with any significant load such as an airport...all hell breaks loose and if the boat has reached the far boundary before "normality" is resumed all bets are off as to what SL decides to do. I've been stuck at region edges like in the old "ghosting" days where the region simply will not let go of the avatar. I have seemingly floated off into space.....and most times I can log off and eventually relog. One notable occasion even when logging in at home I received a message saying that the account was already online...at another location, and only a forced logout by LL rectified the issue! By the way why is it that if a curious observer clicks on one's craft it immediately vanishes? Sailing can be fun but lately it's akin to torture at every region crossing!
  17. Thankyou Bugsly, I know it's vague but it's a sign that LL listens and acts.
  18. May I add my voice to this request? Yes, we know that there is no Main Server roll this week since there was no new code for RC channels last week but surely you can tell us something about this week, even if you have nothing? Come ON LL, communicate!
  19. @anuk2939mk2: Whay you see is not unknown after restarts..ask the owner of the sim to restart it (or if you have Estate Management rights do it yourself). This cures such issues most of the time.
  20. @Maestro Linden: Wow that is quick off the mark! I guess the decision was an easy one this week then! I must assume all the allegorical reports I have received about regions running badly after the restart and at least one apparently being duplicated (!!) had no connection to the actual software update being rolled? (No I cannot remember the name of the region: believe me I have tried!) ETA: this post took two days to materialize!!
  21. I can understand your apprehension but the answer is right up until the moment the Rolling Restart is due to begin ie 3am SLT (PDT) on Tuesday this coming week.😊
  22. Thanks for this Maestro, but forgive me for saying this came MUCH too late this week.
