  1. I dunno, man. Like others have said, a short friends list doesn't mean few friends. Some of the folks I talk to/hang out with most often aren't even on my list. So there is that. I feel that the longer one stasy in SL the more one tends to hang out in the same environment, the same scenes. It's a shame, really, SL gets more and moe interesting the deeper you delve into it, but you'll never get that newb feeling back regarding meeting new people. I probably spend way too much time in biker sims compared to exploring the rest of the grid, so I am just as guilty. SL is huge. Should be lots of stuff for most, just get in there and show interest. Happy hunting!
  2. I honestly don't know. I would think so, but it's a good question.
  3. Thanks for this. Someone I know IRL just recently joined SL, and I sent them a link to your reply here. While they obviously get a good head start by having me help them out and giving them a free place to set home and rezz from day one, there is a lot to be said for allowing oneself to just be a newb and figuring things out by yourself.
  4. I haven't really found any that fit my use, which is mainly things like motorcycle parts. Been mostly using other metal textures so far, in some cases black works too. Stainless steel suggestions would be good as well. Although my building proficiency is coming along, I'm still horrible at making textures.
  5. I know that the vast majority of Marketplace sellers are decent folks who put a lot of time and effort into their creations, so let's please not go down that rabbit hole, but there obviously is a minority who are not. I came across such an MP store today while looking for some full perm parts. A high percentage of the reviews were something like "doesn't look like the picture at all". One guy came up with the idea of including a Gyazo link in his review, where you could clearly see that what was a high quality car in the pic was really a very badly textured thing that only faintly resembled the picture. Another giveaway that this was downloaded 3D models uploaded to SL was the vast array of totally unrelated things in the store, like an elephant, a kayak, some statues, some buildings, motorbikes, binoculars, caps, a horse, a zombie, what have you. I think the Gyazo link was a pretty good idea, what do you think? I suppose it can be abused.
  6. Liking my new TEE. If I only knew what it says...
  7. I'm building a track and packing it into a rez box. Building is going pretty OK, but it rezzes just a tad too low. I put the rez box on a prim plate, and as you can see the it's a bit too low with the prim showing through the green mesh platform. A few clicks up on the Z axis on the rez box and everything's OK. What am I missing here, to get it to rez in the proper Z position?
  8. Same here, no problems. I also have several bank accounts, easy to manage how much I want to transfer to my account which has the debit card attached.
  9. This thread has gone all over the place, predictably. A few things (tiny rant warning). Someone mentioned up-thread that there should be buffers between routes (LL owned) and private land. On Mainland roads there usually are. More often that not. Some places things can be pretty squirrely, though, with two crossings in a single turn and stuff like that, maybe with ban lines added to the mix. I've experienced, pretty sure it was on Route 4, banlines actually stretching out into the road once. I don't lose bikes often, but I did then. My Blocked list consists 99 % of greeters and/or group inviters along Mainland roads. Stuff pops up even when you`re just on the road driving by, covering your screen. Although not often, warnings from orbs pop up when you're on the road too. It's a bit messy in some places. I have no desire to encroach on someones land, and do my best not to. And what people do is their own right, I have full respect for that, but it doesn't hurt to inform people of what their security measures might unintentionally do. Having said that, I see a lot of bad drivers on the Mainland. Seriously, the best way to get a better Mainland experience has less to do with orbs, crossings and lag than with folks not having spent enough time learning to control their vehicles. Get your behind over to some driving SIMs and push your limits before doing anything but crawling speed on the Mainland. Trust me, it helps. It's much more imortant than what scripted vehicle you use. Not using ACS/KCP and not using track vehicles etc etc becomes more and more of a myth as you progress as well. If we are better drivers at least we don't exacerbate the issue
  10. All I ask as a Mainland driver who also happens to live roadside on the Mainland, is that folks know how to set the range of their orbs. If it reaches beyond your parcel, e.g. into Linden roads, you've clearly not set it up right. What you do inside of your parcel is none of my business.
  11. Finally got me a roadside 1024 on the Mainland. Mancave inside, flowers and stuff to keep with up with the Jonses outside Who would have thunk? Seems OK for now.
  12. Certainly seems true to me. I'm surprised at how well my rather recent i5 laptop with only Intel integrated graphics handles SL compared to my trusty work horse of a desktop with an i7 and NVIDIA GeForce. The desktop is better overall, of course, but the laptop is decent enough for SL. I see the same things as you in Task Manager.
  13. Animats, you have done a lot, we have common friends, but come on man Try harder
  14. There are under 40s in SL? Promising for the longevity of SL
  15. Good a place for "general" as many I guess. Off road places and really off road cars or bikes? Only places I really know are tracks where you do 200 % plus or mainland where you go 20 %. BGC used to have an off road area, pretty good but honestly just higher cars with nice landscaping and some tops. Some insurmountable. Anywhere you use those 4x4s you all seem to get? Not into RP, but seems fun just to drive
  16. Right... I started SL from not being a certain type, just SL. Just one in a million. Let us see what this is all about and all that.. Then I discoverd editing shape. Editing just a bit. And saw that some guys, nope, a lot - most got it all wrong. You can't just enlarge stuff. Things will follow and just make you look weird. SL with all "and that" as Karl Pikinson would say followed. All sorts of stuff. Slink put up a Herculean effort. Maybe BMP too. Then AES introduced the more normal (physisiology speaking, making veins, hands and all) male Aestetic. Jake and all the competing bodies etc ensued. Too simplified?
  17. Brilliant. I mostly come to to SL just to drive. But then is there is this
  18. I actually dug out my old dual cpu 2.300 mhz Invidia 0.5 ghz gpu. Vista. It runs SL. In a blank white skybox. Doing something on the other hand... Sad I gave away my 486
  19. So most pretty much Frank Zane. But Thor. Never Arnold.
  20. I've done SL on a dual core laptop with a low-end Nvidia GPU and 4GB RAM (wifi, long ago), an i3 with old Intel HD graphics (major botleneck) and 8GB RAM (wifi), a laptop with a recent i5, much better Intel HD integrated and 8GB RAM (still use this at times, still wifi but much faster net, works pretty well), and now on an i7, desktop, GEForce GPU and 16 GB RAM, plugged in at 100 Mbps. The latter obviously gives the best results. You don't need a monster to run SL - fiddle with your settings etc, but you at least need a bare minimum. Friend of mine uses a pretty hefty gaming PC (top-end Ryzen CPU and GEForce GPU, 32 GB) and things are very smooth, but he actually bought it used at a very decent price. Might be something to look at. Some creditable online stores offer used PCs with a warranty etc. At least in my area.
