  1. Not Jewish but - Happy Hanukkah. I know some in-world. They are here (go to a club or race track, go boating, whatever fits your fancy), but not wearing their heart on their sleeve, as the U.S. saying goes. And why should anyone before you get to know them? Not naming names in a public forum There are nice people here, nevever stop looking for that. I've even met some of them Wish you a nice holiday from Scandinavia.
  2. Thanks for the recommendation. At first glance it might seem weird and off-putting, but once you get past the unicorns and all that there is some really good driving up there. Very friendly welcome too. Will be going back.
  3. Never noticed, up to them. Maybe for tech reasons, maybe they want to make SL more like SL. Never got the point of voice anyway. Done that, and at times had fun (like racing), but afterwards I was always like "OK, going back to SL mode now".
  4. Best avoided, right? Building a 128x128 race track. Very simple but solid track. Just a fun project which I will take my time on. Tested and tested and tested, bikes and cars of all makes. Bought mesh and my own combined. Been asked to put it on the MP at some point or another, as folks seem to like it. All is in the the up-and-up on the bought mesh and textures (some are mine, so...), but all rights and parts are according to TOS compliance. My question is: I saw a bike seller been taken down by none other than Harley Davison. Yes, really. Perhaps deservedly, I am on the fence there, they have always done right by me. Will I be taken down by something like Pirelli or Goodyear for just using their signs? I can do well without. just looks a bit nicer, is all.
  5. The term “cisgender” refers to people whose gender identity and expression matches the biological sex/gender they were assigned when they were born. I think that's an OK definition that many would agree with, and it describes people like me. Non-binary does sound like a computer term, I agree. Outside the gender binary, does that work? Genderfluid? I'm not an expert, just a straight emphatic guy. And "sexual"... well gender-based or something like that is a better word than sexual as I see it, in so many contexts.
  6. Don't really know where to post this, but just wanted to ask you folks. I just uninstalled FS from my HDD (had cache on my SSD) and reinstalled it on my SSD. Seems to make a world of difference. At my home I get the same FPS, but much faster going up after login. One of the most laggy SIMs I know of, Slatanic, is still laggy but now quite surviveable. It was not really before. Is SL just having a good day, or does it make that much of a difference? I dont have a monster machine. Desktop with MSI GeForce GTX970 4GB GDDR5, an i7 and 16 GB RAM. Plugged in at 70 MBPS
  7. Perhaps you need to see more nipples if that's the case But some good points made.
  8. It depends. When I was quite new and renting a place, I had some real griefers drop by all the time who would not leave. The same people all the time. All that noise in local chat is just not something you can simply ignore. I got the landlord to ban them. Second rental, a guy dropped in and just stood there for a long time. I said "can I help you?" His reply: So sorry, I used to rent here and have been out of SL for so long. Mind if I stay until I sort out my LMs? Me: Of course not, stay as long as you need to sort that out. He thanked me and left after a while. In my first Linden home, a girl just dropped in. Quite new and confused. I helped her find her home and get her bearings, and we are still friends. In my current skybox I returned from AFK only to find some demon avi trying to push me out of my own window. That annoyed me, so I changed the orb which was only used to keep track of visitors to eject after 30 secs, and banned the person. I usually have an open house at ground level on my Mainland plot (not currently, setting up something new. But open access/no rezzing). My skybox way above has several floors, and orbs with different levels and reach. I don't mind anyone using my stuff when I'm not around. But enter certain floors, and you'll get a warning and be ejected if you don't turn around or leave. That's the way I do it, but I have full respect for those who just want to have full security. Just try to use orbs rather than banlines if you can.
  9. "Better" might not be the right word in general. Just better at what it does right. Details and tweakability. More realistic even, if done right. Have you looked closely at something like the hands, the veins etc? It's not the quality that's the problem, but the narrow choices. I basically went mesh because there were a bunch of overpriced non-mesh avis at the time, I bought a bummer for 2000+ L and though h**ll no, no more of this. It was basically only Slink, TMP and AES back then, and AES is objectively much more developed than Slink male. Was then, and still is. And TMP is, well, TMP. Looks good enough, but we all know the baggage. Gianni is probably more close to what I'd chosen at the time if it were available. I still maintain that AES (with tweaking) probably is the best looking male avi, overall (with another head than the default), but I wouldn't recommend it for someome over something like Gianni for someone looking for a mesh body for the first time.
  10. With emphasis on almost. I've had this one for a while. (This was a discussion in the in-world group. Some interesting responses, so worth giving it a shot in this forum as well) I subjectively think the AES (Aesthetic) may be the best looking male avi in SL, and much, much more customisable than people give it credit for. Tweaked well, it looks better nekkid than any, and much more detailed. A muscle monster or a fit swimmer, your choice. It can take tweaking better than most smoother (look wise) avis in my experience. But it's the clothing options. Seemed promising for a while, but at this point it almost seems like even Altamura is going to have better options soon. It's getting tiring. Something like L&B is 1000 times better than the Synthol template look (google Synthol if you have to. Safe for your computer, but perhaps not for your eyes), but the matchstick type L&B jacket arms kind of ruins a lot too. CA is a mix, at best. Need a suit? AEC it is. Really superb textures and HUD options, but that weird Synthol shape again. Found an in-world store named Lenox (next to Blueberry) which really seems to get AES jackets in terms of shape, even if they don't have close to AEC or L&B level textures. Not great on jeans, though. At least not if you don't want to be caught dead with your boots on the freaking outside of your jeans... On the MP it's 90 % templates mixed with... well... various stuff. The latter is of course fine, you be you, but a**less chaps or thongs with huge d**k holders are not for me. Might look out of place on a track or a sailing or hiking trip. Sorry, I'm just ranting a bit on what is hopefully a relaxed Friday for all, feel free to ignore. But if you feel like throwing out your favourite brands/stores for AES, that would be cool. Or what you feel would be a better option, avi wise, that's cool too. It's Friday, after all.
  11. Yeah, this too. OP, has your laptop started getting noisier and/or hotter lately?
  12. Could be lots of things. Malware, adware, spyware can slow you down. I'd check for that. Maybe your system has gotten slower because it needs a good cleanup. Could be your connection, at your end or your ISP or in the middle somewhere. I'd check ping times and packet loss, and then start troubleshooting my computer. Can you post your specs?
  13. OP, if you've seen a Dalek in SL it might have been me. But I'm actually human. No, it's not the same, I know that. But I fail to see how it is anyone's business as long as you're not hurting anyone. I don't care, and I don't know anyone who does. Managing one gender is enough for me. If you manage two, you are better at multitasking than I am.
  14. I'm on the same PC (not the greatest, but should be good enough for SL), same connection plugged in at 70 MBPS (no Wifi), where things went fairly smooth - as far as SL goes - as before with few issues. Fairly clean desktop Win 10 install. But I'm getting serious rubber banding issues even at 100 - 130 FPS on a driving track. Same numbers in FS performance tools as before. It's not the places I visit. 2RAW gets restarted frequently and is notoriously low lag. Sturgis, Legends MC, Deezul Raceway, same thing there. Weird thing is that everything is going super smooth until just boom... No packet loss, obviously high ping since I'm in Northern Europe, but I've have had high ping times without these issues before. Just wanted to ask the community if you've had the same issues before I troubleshoot more than I already have spent some time doing. Tried SL viewer and Catznip as well as FS, same stuff. Specs: OS Version: Microsoft Windows 10 64-bit Graphics Card Vendor: NVIDIA Corporation Graphics Card: MSI GeForce GTX970 4GB GDDR5 CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU 920 @ 2.67GHz (2664.77 MHz) RAM: DDR3 16 GBytes NB Freq 2131.7 MHz Motherboard: Gigabyte Technology Co Ltd EX 58-UD 3R Chipset Intel X58 Rev 13 Southbridge And by the way "no I haven't had these issues" would be a helpful answer
  15. Welcome to SL. For 50-80 % of us this is normal
  16. Yeah, get in-world too. There are many who will help on this forum, absolutely. But don't be in a rush. Explore in-world too - see what is out there. Don't miss out on that experience. That's the main part of learning SL. While simultaneously never be afraid to ask here, of course.
  17. Don't transfer COVID, kids I'm a guy in my 40's still perfectly able to deadlift 250 kg for reps feeling like I've been hit in the head by Mike Tyson for two consecutive weeks now. Don't get this stuff, folks. No, I'm not afraid for my own sake, I'll survive, but avoidng my two sisters who have undergone chemo. Think about what this might do to your grandma. And please stop it with the conspiracy therories. At least for a little while.
  18. The toilet paper folks are stocking up on... is that for a runny nose perhaps?
  19. Official hijack of this thread for at least Western Europe, might be forgiven considering the times: We are not at war, supply lines are not under attack. Relax a bit. OK, if you are made to quarantine for 2 weeks you have to shop. But shops will be re-stocked. The next day at the latest. No need to stock up. A half-stocked store just means that someone has panicked for that day. They will refill. Go back the next day...
  20. I had to plaster warning posters up today. That was hard work, mind you!
  21. It's tight between drivers in SL these days . And yes, Ilona Kohime does a great job on bikes. As do many others, of course, but IK Bikes is certainly a nce option. Even for a starter bike.
  22. Welcome to SL. Lots of good advice given above, but I feel the best is go slow. Then demo and demo some more to see what you like. I'm happy with my my Aesthetic (took a lot of tweaking), but it's probably not a good starter body. Like others have said, Skell's blog is very informative. Don't be afraid to ask in the group of whatever body you choose to get - make sure to join, when unboxing you'll probably get an invite. Otherwise just TP (teleport) to the store and look for a group invite sign.
  23. I might not (usually) be the most likely guy to take you out dancing, but most of my bikes have room for two. Just for a scenic ride, of course
