  1. Nope - It is about to burst onto the scene, once the mentors add it to can't miss destinations for newbies.
  2. After 19 pages, plus those posts hidden by the moles, no one has suggested the ultimate solution to not really paying the volunteers, but still giving them something for their time. Pay the mentors in Social Casino coins! 10,000 coins/hour sounds fair enough. Then, since there will be many boring off hours when the mentor is waiting for a victim newbie, install those slots and blackjack tables in the mentor's SL location. This will keep the mentors busy and not dozing off during their shift. Adding how to cheat at blackjack could also be a plus course for the new resident. And another plus, it is all G-rated! I thought there was a purpose for the social casino, and now we know.
  3. Well maybe because each region Detail has the region listed as Region/Estate in a tab, you can say that one region is an estate. However the conventional terminology for an estate is more than one region. At least that is how the SL Wiki defines it: An Estate is a collection of Regions that can be managed as a set. https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Estates#:~:text=An Estate is a collection,be managed as a set. Regions plural, not one region. Then it is called a private region. If you own more than one region you can refer to them as part of your estate. And there was a time when the Lindens called regions, sims, too.
  4. You certainly can if they are arranged as a private estate. There are many Private island connected regions - they are called Estates. Fruit Island for instance has over 200 adjacent interconnected sims and waterways. It is all private regions, and is no where near mainland. Anyone can buy multiple private regions and have SL move them to be adjacent and connected (for a fee). Each region in their estate is 256x256 meters. If SL had massive regions, a private estate could go all seamless. But there would be massive issues with adequate LI if only one region made from 200 full regions were made seemless. Here is the Fruit Island map. Every square is a full region:
  5. And they are still 256x256 regions, with adjacent region crossings. So not seemless. The SL19 BD regions for the main Linden speeches last June about the future plans for SL, used 3 of these extended LI regions, all adjacent. With about 80 avatars per region, the lag was horrible if you tried to move. Grab a seat, point the cam at the stage, and hope you don't crash. The lindens were crashing too, if they tried to cam the 250 in the crowd. You seem to have missed Animats point about mixing large regions with the usual SL region too. Those Elite regions also were still limited to 30,000 LI each. They added more script capacity to handle more avatars in a small region. What if a seemless region was 2048 m on a side? That would be the size of 64 normal regions. 64 private regions at 30K LI each is 1920K LI, or about 880 LI per region if 30k LI was the region max. That is a rather sparse landscape for a full region, which was animats point.
  6. SInce everyone is speculating about seemless, I think it means "simply" larger regions, so no region crossing at all would exist in a seemless region. SL could start a new large region world which was mainly for gaming and seemless, just one gigantic region. They could recall a few Sansor employees to get them started... Region crossings assume you have adjacent regions, and that is not seemless. Trying to combine large gaming seemless regions with the present 256x256m regions, would probably break a lot of things. I recall an ex-Linden saying it would require a new design for SL and was impracticable. Of course Sansar was still fresh in his memory. There are some new seemless projects for mmo games, but still in the future. Ubisoft Massive's Star Wars Game Will Reportedly Feature A "Seamless Universe" CRAFTOPIA – SEAMLESS WORLD UPDATE RELEASE DATE ANNOUNCEMENT There are many seemless small contained mmo games already, usually for an X-box or on Steam. These have nothing in common with the massive SL grid.
  7. I see you removed some of the OP's posts, so I never got an answer to what he meant by seemless. Love's post was humor, not a technical discussion.
  8. Define seamless world, and give some examples. You seem to be the expert on seamless worlds. Send LL a JIRA to make the grid seamless and they should get right on it.
  9. Violet still has an old world charm. Some Barnesworth Anubis original prim bushes (texture on a half sphere) are still in the garden areas. In the central hub I only found 3 attractive nude ladies, another with questionable gender, and a robot. All being quiet. Typical G-rated Linden region I guess. The signs and LM's to other Linden sites was useful. Even listing Linden Realms as a place to earn lindens by collecting crystals.
  10. ^^^ This is what will improve retention. The 3rd stage of mentoring, the "buddy system", where someone actually shows you what SL is about, and puts you in a home area where you can ask others questions. I don't agree that showing a newbie how to walk and run and turn has anything to do with retention. Show them the real SL, not some newbie mentoring center from strangers with a script, and they will want to figure out the rest. Finding someone who will spend the time with you is the problem. That's why newbies often ask about SLex first. Even an escort will help you understand SL on a more personal level than a 2hr shift mentor at a first landing point center. My first venture to a help center was at Violet. A friendly lady was watching me try to change clothes and took pity on me. She invited me to her fancy home on her full sim, where she told me about her SL job as a "private stripper". She gave me a free demo too (where I learned how to dance), and then took me to a Freeebie store where I could find avatars and clothes that were a big step up from the SL schoolboy default I was using. I soon lost track of her, since once I got out in the SL world everyone was friendly and helpful. I also met another person at Violet who loved to chat. My first friend actually - and we spent many hours discussing the state of just about everything. She also told me those little huts at the edge of Violet were actually private homes, and all I had to do was set my Home to one, and it was mine. That was bad advice I found out, but funny at the time, since it was in viewing range of the central hub there. I thought I had privacy in my "own" little home on Violet.
  11. To prevent "older" residents from signing up as new users, I feel that all SL Mentors should wear the same standard SL default avatar, and one that does not always stir the hormones:
  12. I was near NCI and noticed a cluster of dots nearby, around 15 typical. Once I was on their parcel, which was bare land, I could see all these bots on a platform about 250 m in the sky. They all would leave and come back, in about 10 secs, as this was their Home location. I collected about 60 names on this platform in the course of 15 mins, and as expected all had NO PIOF and a blank profile, and were about 1 year old. Would be helpful to know it these bots are registered agents. Because it's obvious their purpose is to survey the grid 24/7. I also recognized many of the names as cluttering up the ban list on my parcel orb. Nothing new here, just curious to watch them in action. You can find them on Ukanipo, on the Mainland.
  13. I would have never stayed in SL longer than a couple days, if it wasn't for my hot barbie girl mentor. She was mostly business helping me with the Phoenix Viewer basics, but she wasn't forced to act like a G-rated child, which would be an asexual boring turnoff. Most adults will not stay in SL for long unless they have friends. A 2 hr stint in a G-rated Linden owned sim is likely to lose more noobs than it will gain. Can a mentor assist a newbie in setting up the poses in their freebie bed? Mine did, because with those old pose balls and notecards to save positions, I was totally lost. We kept our clothes on, of course, nothing needing an Adult region. An alt would be no more useful than I would, so that was not an option. At least this subject is finally being discussed here - It seemed like the pink elephant in the room everyone was ignoring.
  14. The Belli-Hub mentor seems like a sales representative position at a time-share convention. Is selling Premium and Premium Plus accounts the goal? If my houseboat sinks, can I get help at the Belli-Hub?
  15. After reading the application conditions, I wonder how well this really works. Many newbies first question is, "Can you show me sexy time?" Not sure operating as G-rated will keep them around. Does this mean mentoring must all be done at a designated G rated location? Is this for underage teenagers? Well there goes my plan to teach them how to tip by going to my DJ sets... That is understandable. But why waste all their effort to figure out the SL Viewer, when that time could be spent learning a viewer everyone uses. You can't even be a hostess at our club using the SL Viewer - no one knows how it works and its features for a hostess are horrible. I take it suggesting they download another TPV viewer is grounds for firing. Are more than one 2 hour sessions allowed for the same newbie? The 2nd most answered questions are, How do I find a friend? And how do I make lindens, since I have no real money to put into this game I can't figure out. Sending them to fishing holes isn't the best way to introduce all that SL offers... Many end up thinking the mentor is their friend. This does not always work out well. Will the rules allow after hour socialization, or even alts? Some will think this is also wrong, since it might result in non G-rated activity. Well that's no problem - I am always fully clothed, with no skin showing except my cute pink tongue. I do have some bigger friends who I can't vouch for:
  16. No you are usually the first person to view me. Now be serious, there is first person (mouselook) and third person (your eyes in the camera offset from your head). Is the second person that Linden that watches everything I do? (silently)
  17. First I found Inara's explanation too much to read, although I am sure it is correct Camera offset is based on where the camera is with respect to your head position. All zeros in the camera and focus offsets puts the camera at its head position, which I think is about where your eyes are. When you want to make a new preset, first use Escape to make sure the camera is set to whatever camera position is in effect then. If you then enter offset values and use Save as a new preset with a new name, and it should stick as a preset. I don't think the numbers then randomly change. I also recall having to move slightly so I didn't get random numbers. I would try this first but my avatar is sleeping, and I don't want to wake up my partner. Once you get the presets you want, you can use the gear menu to delete old or incorrect presets. I have a few Presets besides the FS default ones: Camera presets are more useful than you might imagine. Here are my numbers for Beach Rock.
  18. I would also get the free Builder's Brewery Land Leveler/Terraformer. Takes some practice to use it, but is menu driven and STOP button is your friend. Get it here: http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Builders Brewery/138/25/25 BB has some great building tools for free and for sale inworld at their Main store. They are not on MP. As their Notecard of instructions says, "This is a free tool, therefore I don't do warranty. If it doesn't work for you I'm sorry, I don't know why, it works for everyone else who has tried it to this point. If you paid for this you should ask for your money back! "
  19. The scheduled notice finally showed up 17 mins before the restart began. see other thread. You can't expect to check less than an hour before the restarts, and expect to see a Notice. You think SL is operated like the military?
  20. There was no release notes for this week. Latest notice was May 30. There was no "restart notices" for this week, UNTIL they started. TikTok blog Main Channel notice was at 6:00 AM SLT today. Status Event notices let us know when our regions will be restarted, and were finally listed 17 minutes before restarts began. For those of us who actually build, rezz and have timed events as a business in SL, we need to plan around the weekly restarts. 17 minutes is not enough warning time. Just because you are not affected does not mean everyone is not affected. I seldom post here about the restarts even though they affect me and my businesses. I'll wait for your usual response of "who cares" followed by defending the lack of communication by the lab. Scheduled - We will be performing rolling restarts for regions on the main Second Life Server channel on Tuesday, June 6th, beginning at approximately 6:00 AM PDT. Please refrain from rezzing no copy objects before and during the restart, and remember to save all builds. Please check this blog for updates.Jun 6, 05:43 PDT And the first notice in tik tok SL Grid Status: [status] In Progress: Scheduled maintenance is currently in progress. We will provide updates as necessary. status.secondlifegrid.net Rolling Restarts for Second Life Main Channel Scheduled maintenance is currently in progress. We will provide updates as necessary. 6:00 AM · Jun 6, 2023
  21. I am a mushroom. There is a Leaderboard here, and a Discord group where they can all agree on who's the next target? If those Gold, Silver and Bronze awards had $L rewards, I might post more. But since they don't I will just spend my spare time at the SL Social Casino.
  22. Who are you speaking to? Where are the posts about moderation? You are the expert at red herrings. When the subject of the post goes totally off topic, the lack of Lindens to remind the posters is still noted. And btw a Mole is not a Linden, despite your opinion.
  23. This thread has NOTHING to do with Nazi's. Is this off-topic rant a test to see if the Lindens and moles are still monitoring the forum?
