  2. I'm coming a bit late to the party...so forgive me if things have been said already... I can understand what you want to do..but one reason, that I think no one mentioned already, is that if you give your employee an AV (account) that you created you become responsible for anything they do inworld (on Second Life) under that account. That could, in theory, jepordize all your accounts. For example, let's say you contact your employee and you want to have this meeting...so you give them an AV and password that you created...you have your meeting, log out and all is good. BUT, then that employee goes back inworld and begins to engage in Ageplay or begins to harass people. Guess who LL (Linden Lab, the company that created Second Life) is going to go after...not him/her...because it's YOUR account, YOU are liable and LL can freeze your account and, if the charge is serious enough, report you to local authorities. It is easy, as everyone else has mentioned, to have people set up accounts. You can rent or purchase a sim to hold your meetings...and anything else they do is not your concern. I realize, after reading this, that I'm talking in circles with all the definitions and double talk, but I did want to make sure that the OP understood all the players involved here. Hope that helps.
  3. That reminded me of another older video that I posted.
  4. Hey all... So I walk into my boring job this morning in a funk (as I do a lot of mornings) but as I was on the net, I came across this old song which instantly improved my mood. Feel free to add your own choices....
  5. And, unfortunately, since it was a special free gift for SL's 10th anniversary you're probably out of luck. The only thing I might suggest is to find out who made it and see if they're willing to give you one. They were pretty cool though. https://my.secondlife.com/tex.monday/snapshots/51b0ec2a565a593c44000001?version=original

Going to money trees used to be one of the standard pieces of advice to new residents who were looking to get some lindens to spend back when I first joined SL. Was going to mention money trees, although the odds of finding any with lindens on it are pretty slim. I did that as an experiment on a new AV that I made, just to see if it would work. I managed to collect about $10L before I gave up. :matte-motes-sunglasses-3: I think there are still a few camping sites around...although, the last ones I've seen give away product instead of L$. Speaking of that, you could think about finding some MM (Midnight Mania) boards or Lucky Chairs. It's a way to get some products for free, as long as enough people know about it. As others have mentioned, the easiest way to earn lindens is to get some kind of a job (whether it be adult or not) or create something that people want to buy. It can be done. I've also never put a single dollar in to SL and by working and other...um...stuff, I've managed to earn a tiny little nest egg that I can use to pay my rent and buy things that I want. Keep your chin up....you'll be fine.
  7. Howdy...and welcome to Second Life. What I usually suggest is for new residents to go through the search function and find some groups that interest you. There are LOADS of different groups out there for just about any interest: Music, Dancing, Arts, Building. Once you find a group that you like, join it..especially if it's free. You get 42 groups so don't be shy...you can always leave it if it isn't what you thought it would be. When you get in there...check out who's on line (go into the front page of the group and sort the users by date) then send out a group IM or send an IM to the moderator to say hello. Ask what's happening with the group, where people hang out, etc. Don't be shy. Get out there and explore. SL is a world full of amazing things... Good luck!!
  8. Phil Deakins wrote: hehe. I don't think LL is losing. In order to lose you have to be in the fight, and LL is nowhere to be seen in this fight. Idon't know, Phil. I actually looked at one earlier today, and I'm certain it contained at least one link. every single one that i have ever reported hs not had a link, just a bunch of textlines repeated. They may have been links before the forum AI removed the links. Like if you copy paste from wikipedia it removes the links before you post. I believe that Drake is right. The posts do not contain links. Most of them contain phone numbers of some undetermined area that you can call to receive your black magic or mumbi prostitute (for only .29/minute plus any additional charges they may decide to throw at you) :matte-motes-sunglasses-3:

It's bleepity to intentionally diminish the issue, Tex. LL only respond to noise-propelled signals, not sure that's Tiffy's fault. <3 It's certainly not MORE annoying...it's just we don't need to hear about it. And, I never said it was her fault...We know the spam exists, yet people need to make us (the other members of the forum) aware that it exists. There's nothing that we can do about it except "Report Inappropriate Content" and move on. But, like the weather, there's no use complaining about something that we have no control over...even if it makes us feel better :matte-motes-sunglasses-3: @ Tiffy...my apologies if I sounded nasty, was not my intention. As I said, there's nothing we can do about it. When LL moderators discover it, which sometimes takes a bit of time, they delete it. This has been going on for quite some time and caused the "death" of the PM feature that used to be available through the website. I hate this s**t as much as the next person and I'm sure that one day LL will just delete the forum rather than deal with this. It has to be a full time job for at least a few people to get rid of it all. We need to just get past it and deal with it, that's all (IMHO). :matte-motes-sunglasses-3:
  12. I'm not sure what's worse...the spam on the forum or the people who constantly complain about it. This has been an issue for a while... http://community.secondlife.com/t5/General-Discussion-Forum/So-spamming-is-not-just-a-problem-inworld-but-on-forums-too/td-p/2647910 http://community.secondlife.com/t5/Forums-Feedback/Always-Thinking-Re-The-Spammers/m-p/2269041#M4271 Just two examples... It's annoying...eventually LL will fix it....just move on....thank you....

  14. I hate replying to a post that's almost a week old, but.... AbbyFraser wrote: But maybe now with the new CEO i am hoping for a chance to get real last names back. I don't want to have to pick a name from a list of last names (some of those last names were ugly) But maybe they should add the ability to make up your own last name. Maybe someone could make a suggestion to LL? would be cool I wouldn't mind just choosing from a list. I remember that when you chose a first name, it gave you (I might be guessing here) 15-20 last names to choose from. I also remember that if you went back and chose a different name, different last names would show up. I would accept that.... That made me sad and now I really want one for him...:matte-motes-sunglasses-3:
  15. uccello poultry commented on this through a feed post. She gave a pretty good link as to what websites were affected. http://mashable.com/2014/04/09/heartbleed-bug-websites-affected/ I don't have any financial information through SL (not being a premium member or anything) but I did change my Yahoo mail password as well as my facebook password...just to be safe.

  17. Howdy....and as everyone else said, Welcome to the Wonderful World of Second Life. My question to you is where have you been trying to talk to people? If it's in a club, then there's probably too many conversations going on and you'll get lost in the barrage...THAT in itself, can be frustrating and put you off. I agree wholeheartedly with joining Hippie's group. Even though I haven't been there in a while (due to RL work and stuff), it's a fantastic place to meet other people and just chill and chat (just make sure that Maddy doesn't try to steal your keys... :matte-motes-sunglasses-3:). It was great to finally sit down and talk to a lot of the forum dwellers in person after only meeting them through posts in the forums for so long. What I might suggest also, if you haven't done it already, is to go into the search function and find some groups that spark your interests...movies, music, dancing..there are live performances all over SL as well. Once you're in there, join the group...especially if they're free (you get 42 of them, so don't be shy) and then send out a group IM or send an IM to the moderator of the group. Worst case is that no one responds..but you never know. It's a nice way to see other people and find out what fun things might be going on through the group or other places inworld. Anyway...if I can ever get my s**t together and head off to another breakfast, I look forward to seeing you there. Good luck....
  18. Howdy...and welcome to Second Life. Sorry that you're bored. I know the world can be a bit overwhelming because there's so much to do, but don't let it concern ya. 19. The person who really needs to contact LL is the owner of the account, the person who created it. Dres is correct, you cannot "transfer" an account to someone without LL's permission. However there is nothing in the TOS that prohibits a person from allowing someone else to access their account. What is stated is that the owner of the account is held resposnsible for any or all actions committed with the account. If the account is locked, the only person who can get it unlocked is the owner. I agree..the only person who can get the account unlocked is the owner....wasn't disputing that fact. My question was with a bit of investigation using the tools at hand, couldn't she find out where the money went? Granted, it's probably a fake ( like the mumbia prostitute poster) account that was deleted as soon as the funds were transferred, but it's something at least. That was where I was going, my friend. Next question....Would the my.secondlife.com website even work if the account is locked? I hope that makes some kind of sense....
  20. Let me say that I feel bad that this happened. It's no fun to start a new online experience and have something like that happen. I do agree with Perrie that there are a lot of holes in this story..but, be that as it may, this has happened and it's time to move on to figure out how to solve it. Something no one suggested, and correct me if I'm wrong, couldn't she go into the my.secondlife.com website, click on transaction history and at least see where the money was transferred to? If the hacker took out all the lindens, it had to go someplace, right? And with that, she could give LL a bit more information.
  21. Perrie Juran wrote: And I know you may not like this but you will need to remove their name. Even though what they did sux, naming and shaming is not allowed in the Forum so your post is at risk of being removed. I'm not sure if this is the right place to bring this up but this is the kind of thing that drives me up the wall. I don't mean to rant, but why is it that the idiots/morons/a**holes who harrass (and often post repeatedly in the forums) have this protection from the TOS when the rest of us have to suffer? I've been on many a thread where one of these people post a comment, then get accused of something and quickly hide behind the skirts of the TOS saying "Oh, you can't say that! I'm going to report you to LL." Maybe if more of these people were shamed into the open, less of this crap would happen. Edited to hopefully make more gramatical sense..although I don't think it worked :matte-motes-sunglasses-3:

  23. For years when I first got here, I thought that the people who had "Resident" as their last names were Premium Members and those with last names weren't. Didn't realize the whole progression of the last names until my next AV didn't get one. On a good note, I discovered that there are 10201 residents with my last name....time to hit up some long lost relatives for extra cash.... :matte-motes-sunglasses-3:

Here I'm free to be lazy and chat to people and then explore any creative parts of the game in my own time, I like it. Hopefully catch with you guys in game A quick piece of advice, if I may....a lot of people who play SL will get offended if you refer to it as a game. This has started numerous arguments here in the forum and inworld as well. If you're talking inworld about SL, just call it SL. If you're referring to it here in the forums, refer to playing as being inworld. It'll save you a lot of headaches from some obsessed people later on. Good luck.
