  1. Even though I am not Canadian, I would like to wish a Happy Holiday to my northern brothers and sisters.... Now...we need something like this for the Star Spangled Banner...unfortunately, it would probably be filled with Bud... :matte-motes-sunglasses-3:
  2. VoteboxRepairMan wrote: Yes, exactly. I'm lamenting the old days, when picking up Ls was a doddle. If I started SL now as a noob, I'd probably have packed it in after a couple of weeks. I've had 40,000L in my balance at times and yet never worked a single shift on SL. There is still multiple alt voting on contests, though that tends to involve having to sit through some awful music unless you time it well. Hence, sim owners decide to be selfish - noobs get bored and quit SL - sim owners whine about land costs and lack of traffic. No wonder LL want to do something new. As annoying as this conversation is, he does bring up an interesting question about money. Unfortunately, despite what people may say you do need to get some money in SL. I have never had to put a dime of my own money inworld and have worked at various jobs to earn some cash. But what of those people who don't want to put their own money in and are too new or too lazy (like our friend here) to work? There should be a system, besides becoming a premium member, to make a few bucks in here. I've been approached by newbies now and then, looking for handouts to buy a new hair or a new skin. So the point of the votebox is a valid one...of course, being too lazy to sit for 10 minutes on a sim to earn some money is down right despicable. Edited to remove a not so nice remark

  4. Reminds me a bit of the old money trees that were out there. You'd have to hunt for them and (if) you found them, you could get anywhere from $1L to $5L depending on how much was loaded into it. I set up an alt once specifically to see how much I would make off of that. Took me about a week to make $10L and another 3 days to get into a more "adult" profession :matte-motes-sunglasses-3: Also is remincent to camping chairs that used to be almost everywhere in SL. As to your specific statement, I don't think this is a reminder that SL is dying. It didn't seem to be a huge source of income for many people (as most of us here have never heard of it). I haven't seen too many of them around in general. Asking someone to stay in a location for 10 minutes doesn't seem to be that much of a burden. If you have that many alts, but send them out in 1 minute intervals to other sims and just rotate them. You won't have to sit until your finished and you can still collect your lindens. Won't comment much more but refers back to Amethyst's post which was right on the nose....nicely done!!
  5. Back to the original point.... Vinten wrote: Can I respectfully request that you put these proposed changes to the SL platform to a 'Public Vote.' Yes, I know it's not being helpful....but REALLY? The Lindens don't give two s**ts now about what the residents want or care about. What in the world (or inworld) makes you think that this would go over like anything but a lead balloon????
  6. A point that no one has mentioned might be to join SL now to see if you like it. The new system, I'm sure, will work under the same premise as the current system...including Griefers, Trolls and Bots. :matte-motes-sunglasses-3:
  7. First...my apologies for your bad experience on returning to SL. Coming inworld in difficult enough as a newbie, it must be worse to come back after a few years absense to find it different and not pleasant. That being said, my two cents:\ I have never really built or made anything and am not a big fan of mesh. I did make a T-shirt once which I was pretty proud of...took a texture, unloaded it and placed it on a long sleeve shirt. Can't do that anymore with mesh...but it never really bothered me. I have friends who build and haven't had any problems. I suppose it would have to do with whether or not you want to learn the new systems. Socially, people are in their own worlds at times. It depends on where you're going to talk to people and what you said to them when starting a conversation. I'm not sure I understand the "gobsmacked" description you use, though. Visiting people in their homes...I can't even begin to describe how wrong that is. They asked you to leave because they probably thought you were a troll or something (and you just might be). No one likes someone to invade their privacy. And I can't believe you did that back in 2005.. Of course, it's your choice as to whether or not you wish to come back...and not our job to convince you to stay. If you're unhappy, there's no point in changing your mind. Out of curiosity...how long did you give it before you bailed?

  10. You're welcome to follow mine, although I don't have a lot there either... https://www.flickr.com/photos/99899609@N07/ But the only SL/Flickr group I belong to is the Topless Tuesday Group. https://www.flickr.com/groups/toplesstuesdaysl/ Have fun...
  11. many people may not know the comic or where this song comes from, but it fits...
  12. Phil Deakins wrote: Yep. England is very nearly out of the competition now. VERY disappointing. We can still qualify if:- Italy win their next 2 games and we beat Costa Rica by enough goals to get through on goal difference. It's very possible that Italy will beat both Uruguay and Costa Rica, and more likely than not that England will beat Costa Rica. If that all happens it'll leave Italy with 9 points and England, Uruguay and Costa Rican on 3 points each. and then it'll be down to goal difference. It means that, if Italy beats Costa Rica tomorrow, as they should, then the final games, which are played simultaneously, will be incredibly rivetting. OW!! That makes my head hurt..can someone just wake me up when it's all over and tell me who won??? :matte-motes-sunglasses-3:
  13. Took me a few days to remember to do this, but I have the answer 6,298 items...and if I went through and deleted duplicates and things I never use anymore, I'm sure I'd knock off a good couple hundred items. Oh...and it will be 5 years inworld in November

Now, now Phil! Be nice, this could be a camouflaged survey. :matte-motes-big-grin: :smileywink: hehe. If it's a survey and the title was a lie, there's no need to be nice Aw...come on Phil. Can't we all just be nice and ignore these things instead of jumping down the poor OP's throat over yet another survey...:matte-motes-sunglasses-3: *looks for his virtual bullhorn*

  16. Phil Deakins wrote: Have you ever tried watching cricket? A Test Match game (matches played between countries) lasts for 5 days. - that's just one game. And there's never anything that can be considered beautiful to watch. BUT they can be extremely absorbing. It all depends on on whether or not you want one tea, to win. As I said in my previous post, sport is all about winning. It is never about aesthetics or beauty or anything along those lines. So football is every bit as good or bad to watch as any other game or sport. However, it is the best loved sport in the world. there is a small group that play Cricket in a park near my house. I've never understood the game so I've never really stayed long enough to watch it. I do find it fascinating how the bowler (is that the right name for the guy who throws the ball?) takes that running start and gets it right where it's supposed to be...usually, that is. Asside from that, I haven't a clue how to play. Yes, it is the best loved sport in the world..and that's wonderful. I think in the states, given the choice, people might watch one of the four major sports (US football, baseball, basketball or hockey) over soccer. It just never seemed to take off here,
  17. Perrie Juran wrote: The problem with soccer is the field is too large. If they shrank the field the action would get a lot hotter. If you want to watch a fast action paced version of Soccer switch to Hockey. I've never been a big fan of hockey, probably for the same reason as soccer (oh, my poor shins....:matte-motes-sunglasses-3:) The only good part about hockey was the fights..and the refs have even limited that. The old joke used to be "I went to a fight and a hockey game broke out"

I also show 1 notification pending on the left side "INBOX" for a year now, but nothing is there. How do I clear this too? Is there some sort of stick you can whack Linden Labs with to wake their monkeys up? I believe that someone said in a previous post that you have to go into your personal feed first (by clicking on your name). From there you should be able to delete the notice. You'll never see those pictures though, unfortunately
  19. Phil Deakins wrote: A lot of games are horrible to watch, but it's the result that matters, and the U.S. got the result. It's very nice to watch some very nice football being played, but, for the fan, it's all about his/her team getting the result. No fan is joyful at his/her team playing beautiful football while losing the game. And that's typically the problem. For me (forgive me those who enjoy the game) I think it's like watching paint dry. We did watch most of the first half of the US/Gyana game (after the US scored, of course, missed that part) and I was pretty bored. I'd much rather sit and watch a baseball game than sit and watch a soccer game. Although, this all may stem from my days at summer camp when we played soccer and I continually got kicked in the shins. :matte-motes-sunglasses-3:

No no wait...Yankees...baseball. No no.....football, right?? When did they start playing in Brazil?? :matte-motes-sunglasses-3:
  21. You could probably use SL Go...there is a charge of 9.99USD per month for unlimited use. It says it's for tablets, but I would assume that it works for the phone as well. Just so you know, it doesn't work for Apple products...which is good..stops me from being tempted to download it to my ipad. I use a text based product on my phone and ipad called Pocket Metaverse. You can find it on the app stores. All you can do with it is talk (no inventory or things like that). I like it as it keeps me in contact with people when I'm not able to get on my computer. It's free...there is a pay version that gives you other stuff, but it's still a text based system.
  22. Welcome to the wonderful world of Second Life, Sara A lot of what I do is roleplay (usually a dominant to my submissive friends) but there are lots more things to do inworld than that. People go to dance clubs, explore beautiful sims, race cars, shoot zombies, or even find resident made replicas of famous landmarks...all as themselves. It may seem that roleplay is all that goes on here because that's a lot of what you see, but if it's not for you then you don't have to do it. It's all up to you.... Good luck
  23. LaskyaClaren wrote: That's not really a very fair analogy, Tex. A phone call, even one that goes to voice mail, isdisruptive. It's noisy, and it screams "Answer me!" By contrast, a survey thread is perhaps 2 or three lines of text, immersed noiselessly in a sea of other identical-looking posts. It's not even really visual pollution (I miss seeing threads all of the time!), and it's certainly not "demanding" of attention in the way that a phone call is. Ignoring it -- or even just unintentionally missing it -- is easy. Madelaine McMasters wrote: That's also not a valid comparison, Tex. Survey posts don't interrupt me. I don't have to push a button to silence the ringer or endure the noise until they hang up, potentially leaving me a voice mail I've got to delete. To avoid a survey post, I have to do... nothing. I'm with Phil and Laskya in wondering what it is about not being coerced to do anything at all that annoys people. Where's the outrage over Hippie's "Where are all my friends?" thread, which contains thousands of posts of no interest to almost everyone here? -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- wow....two posts from two people with the same "That's not a valid comparison" quote...has to be a record!!:matte-motes-sunglasses-3: And you may be correct...but, if you're going through the threads and have an aversion to surveys and one shows up, it may be interupting and annoying. Be that as it may, I can't and won't argue with your comparison. I feel it is the same..and I still wish to take a virtual bullhorn to some of the students posting surveys here. And did you notice how I successfully took the flames of abuse away from Phil and planted them firmly on myself?? (You're welcome, by the way....:matte-motes-sunglasses-3:)
  24. LaskyaClaren wrote: Tex, how are they "annoying" you, exactly? They create a thread, but to read it, you have to actively open it. In other words, you have to actively take the initiative to put yourself in the position of being "annoyed." Surely the mere appearance in the forum list of a thread entitled something like "Please Do My Survey" is not in itself enough to warrant "annoyance"? And how often does it happen, really? Certainly not every day. Maybe once a week, on the entire forum? Tops? The only way to answer that question is to compare it to solicitation calls. "Microsoft" calls you and tells you that you have a bug in your system...obviously you don't (after all, why would a huge US company be calling you and that person have an Indian accent? :matte-motes-sunglasses-3:) The calls come every so often, but they are still annoying when they show up on your caller ID. You can choose to ignore the call or choose to pick it up and blast a foghorn in the person's ear...your choice. (I've never done that...but I did make unwanted sexual advances towards them..just for fun)
