  1. Studio09 wrote: Tex, looks like you guys were having so much fun. :matte-motes-grin: Thanks for sharing. You're welcome. Glad you enjoyed it. I'm disappointed that it never got finished. Hated finding myself being pulled under water in a boat with no method of escape... In the last few weeks there was a post on one of these forums that mentioned emotes. Since I had never heard of that before I did look up several sites that explained/gave examples. But seeing them used in that thread has helped a lot, even though some were not necessarily "good" examples (at least according to some of those sites). There seemed to be a lot of determining how other participants would react or even act instead of letting them initiate that for themselves. But then it was playing in the forums, not live in world, and directing the actions of others would save some time. The difference here was this was a story. The original idea of the thread was to explain to the OP (original poster) how to talk in IC and OOC. The thing deteriorated from there (as most of our threads do). There's no interaction between characters except within the person's post...otherwise, the story wouldn't have gotten very far. :matte-motes-sunglasses-3: I liked your style especially the use of including actions and expressions surrounded by "*"s and the occasional use of he/she/his/their,etc instead of always using the more stilted full name. Also the use of a descriptive noun like girl, man, etc as extraneounomenclature mentioned would make using 3rd person not sound so awkward. Used the * because I didn't want to type /me all the time. Inworld it's fine..it'll show your name before the action that you're doing, but on the forums I don't think it works very well. As we've said numerous times, you just need to use what makes you comfortable. As long as your RP isn't blatenly horrible, people are more interested in what you're saying rather than how you're saying it.
  2. Venus Petrov wrote: I would suggest that you do what seems natural for you to do in any given environment. Just relax and be 'yourself'...whomever you decide that to be. Can't argue with what others have said, use what you feel comfortable with. That being said, there was a post a while ago about how to speak in emotes (which turned into some kookie story about stolen linden coins and giant hello kitty robots *). What I do is speak in first person in conversations and third person in emotes...using HIS/HER/THEIR instead of the person's name. The only reason I say this is that it was brought up that your name shows up and it seems silly to say "Tex Monday opens my mouth slowly we move in to kiss" or something like that (since your name shows up during emotes without the semi-colon). More likely, it should look like "Tex Monday opens his mouth slowly as we move in to kiss" But, as stated plenty of times before...you do what you feel comfortable in. Most people are interested in the basis of the emote or conversation rather than if proper grammer is being used. *EDITED TO ADD: FOUND THE STORY.... http://community.secondlife.com/t5/Role-Play/Need-some-help-with-roleplaying-WIll-pay-you-a-few-lindens-for/td-p/1966517 EDITED FURTHER TO ADD: I'd forgotten how much fun that story was until I read it again...
  3. Hmmm....gives me an idea for a new business venture: Avatar Trafficing...:matte-motes-sunglasses-3: Take residents unwanted avatars (paying them a flat fee to buy them), then sell the Avatars to residents for a profit. As creepy as it seems, there'd probably be a good business for it...seeing how many older residents have ALTS they're not using and how many new residents would want to have a last name. Anyone interested in investing???:matte-motes-sunglasses-3: Although with my luck, they'd shut me down like the Mubai Prostitute Posters...:matte-motes-sunglasses-3:
  4. Silly movie, Mari...but you missed the best line Topper Harley (Charlie Sheen) meets Captain Benjamin Willard (Martin Sheen)...they pass each other on boats and scream I LOVED YOU IN WALL STREET!!!
  5. Pie Serendipity wrote: If anybody is really desperate I have a few spare avatars, complete with last names, in "storage" that a high enough offer might tempt me to sell... It is funny that you say that. I was thinking quite some time ago about selling my first avatar...but I don't think you're allowed to do it. Found this in the ToS..(but have to preface that by saying I am not an attorney and I may not be reading it correctly. My apologies if I'm wrong). 11.2 You may not assign your Account; we may assign this Agreement. You may not assign this Agreement or your Account without the prior written consent of Linden Lab. You may not transfer or sublicense any licenses granted by Linden Lab in this Agreement without the prior, written consent of Linden Lab, except solely to the extent this Agreement permits transfer of any applicable Linden Dollar Licenses. There did used to be something about being able to transfer avatars to another person if the user has died, but didn't see that when I was poking around the Tos.
  6. I usually don't post stuff like this, but I couldn't resist. 4 year old Adelaide Ames just wanted to stop hearing fireworks. So her dad replaced them with a song, sung together to a bright pink ukulele. It starts and stops, but once it gets going it's really cute... http://www.dailydot.com/lifestyle/imaginary-fireworks-adelaide-ames-video/

  8. I'm all for restoring last names, I think it makes more sense than having everyone be "resident". Unfortunately, as you have discovered, this is not the place to do it. So I am proposing this... A massive letter writing campaign! Not email, not forum posts...LETTERS! Everyone who wants to should write to LL (Linden Lab Headquarters 945 Battery Street San Francisco, CA 94111) and ask them to change. We know the LIndens don't read the forums..never have. They have moderators to look at things, but I don't believe concerns ever get reported back to LL. What's the worst that can happen? You waste 20 minutes and a postage stamp. What's the best that can happen? Maybe..just maybe..someone might look at all the letters and reconsider. Who knows, right???
  9. Freya Mokusei wrote: Can she see the image at the end of this link? [image] It's the most recent image in your feed (I think). If you're uncomfortable with me posting such links, I'll withdraw it once I see you reply. If yes: it's likely an issue with her browser If no: It's likely an issue with her network set-up or browser-filtering. Check she can reach cloudfront.net, the domain that Feed images come from. Adblockers, firewalls, anti-virus, routers, parental controls, all of these things can restrict your ability to see things online. I believe that she got a "not authorized to see this post" or something like that when she last looked. And no, she is not able to see any of the images in my feed. I'll ask her about cloudfront.net, though
  10. Welcome to SL... I have a couple of suggestions... go into the search function and type in one of your interests..whether it be dancing, music, sci-fi, whatever....then find a group that meets this. Join it and then send out an IM and see if you can get any responses. The people in the group should let you know where the busy places are. If not, just chat. You'll develop friendships and then can find locations from there. Another suggestion might be..and I might not be describing this right so bare with me, when you go into the search and you get a list of suggested places, in the right hand corner on some of them there should be squares with avatars on it. This is supposed to show the busy and popular places. You can see if that helps. Hope that makes sense...good luck
  11. Howdy all... I have a good friend who, all of a sudden, isn't able to see any of my pictures or posts from the SL feed. I tried removing her and readding her as a friend on the SL site and Inworld and neither thing seems to work. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks....

  13. I know it's been a couple days, but remembered this "The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the inequities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he, who in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who would attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know my name is the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon thee."
  14. My hat....(was going to say my sanity, but I whacked that object years ago):matte-motes-sunglasses-3:
  15. I choose Casablanca (1941). There are so many great one liners. "Here's lookin' at you, kid" "You played it for her, you can play it for me...if she can stand it, so can I" (He never actually said "Play it again, Sam") "If that plane leaves the ground and you're not on it, you'll regret it...maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, but soon and for the rest of your life" But ultimately, I'll stick with this one... "Louie, I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship"
  16. Criswell: Greetings, my friend. We are all interested in the future, for that is where you and I are going to spend the rest of our lives. And remember, my friend, future events such as these will affect you in the future. You are interested in the unknown, the mysterious, the unexplainable. That is why you are here. And now, for the first time, we are bringing to you the full story of what happened on that fateful day. We are giving you all the evidence, based only on the secret testimonies of the miserable souls who survived this terrifying ordeal. The incidents, the places, my friend, we cannot keep this a secret any longer. Let us punish the guilty. Let us reward the innocent. My friend, can your heart stand the shocking facts about grave robbers from outer space? From the classic "Plan 9 From Outer Space" (1956)
  17. Thinkerer Melville wrote: But keep in mind that most employers will want some experience in SL And, a lot of places won't hire you if you're under 30 days old. My suggestion, if you want to try to make money here (without being in the Slex industry) would be to pick up a skill...building, photography. Create something that you can sell inworld. Try taking pictures... There are classes for these things (although, I don't know where they are honestly) and you should be able to learn it pretty easily. It's not the quick way to earn money, but it is another option since you're so new. Good luck.. (Edited numerous times because I think faster than I type....) :matte-motes-sunglasses-3:
  18. they should have stuck to.... PIGGGSSSS INNNNN SPAAAAAAACEEE!!!!
  19. Here might be another option, if you haven't already done so.... At the top of your feed, there are options for ALL, SNAPSHOTS and POSTS. if you just choose snapshots, you might be able to see more of your pictures. You might then consider saving the ones you like to your computer. Just a thought..good luck.
  20. Madelaine McMasters wrote: Here are your keys. It'll be dark by the time you get home, so take my kerosene lantern. No need to thank me, my pleasure. ;-) Hmmm...Kerosene...gas on in the house...somehow that doesn't make for a very good combination. If you wanted to burn me, I'm still willing to go into your fireplace and be...um...cleansed??? :matte-motes-sunglasses-3:
  21. Phil Deakins wrote: To my knowledge, there were 2 pics taken of us together at the table. One was taken by Tex and is in his SL feed, and the other was taken by someone else and passed to me. Both are snaps of the 4 ofus at the table - Tex, Trinity, you and me - and don't show a frontal view of us side-by-side, but a good idea can be got from the one in Tex's feed. I know it's a bit late, but here is the other picture of the four of us that I took... Notice that Phil is probably staring at someone else's melons....:matte-motes-sunglasses-3:
  22. On a more positive note, I found this video of the construction of the New World Trade Center in NY. Time lapsed...progress from October 2004 to September 2013 http://newsfeed.time.com/2013/09/11/watch-time-lapse-of-the-world-trade-center/
  23. I saw this on YouTube and found it amazing. The premise is...what would the trailer for "Monty Python and the Holy Grail" (arguably one of the funniest movies ever made) look like if it was being released in 2013?? Here's your answer...enjoy
