  1. I am not a tax professional, especially regarding laws in the UK, but I did find this on wiki http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Linden_Lab_Official:Required_Tax_Documentation_FAQ Maybe that will help...but as for your questions: 1. No, LL will probably not close your account. Most likely, they won't allow you to do anymore payouts until you comply. 2. Again, I have no idea about tax laws in the UK but I would think that you would be taxed somehow on the Lindens that you cashed out. You were supposed to have filled out a W8-BEN. Is that what LL is asking you to complete? 3. Since this is a new policy, I would suppose that you would only be liable for taxes for this year.... 4. That is your decision. There isn't much about the taxes that you have to pay for this past year, but you would have to determine if the cost of processing is worth the amount of money you're cashing in...and if you can afford (or wish to) lose that income. Not able to advise you any more than that, unfortunately. My suggestion might be to ask a tax professional. They know the laws better than you or I and should be able to advise you. Good luck
  2. hello and welcome to SL The suggestion that I give to new residents is this....go into the search function of your viewer and find a group that you have an interest in. You said "dress making" and "taking classes", for example. Look those up and see what groups might be out there that strike your fancy. Then, join them. You can have 40 something groups, so don't be shy..especially if they're free. Once you're in there, check to see if anyone is on line and start a group chat or IM the moderator trying to see what fun things the group does. Most times, people will at least say hello. Don't be shy, just jump right in. Good luck.

  4. JacobSteven wrote: Hello, I have this exact version of what is on this site so that version is cool: http://www.firestormviewer.org/downloads/ check the version at the top of the viewer just to be sure you're running the newest version. The 4.6 just came out recently, so that if you haven't downloaded in the last few weeks, you may have the older one and where do I write to support them and not wait until when the answer is not any other choice but to resolve it as quickly as possible, please? it's a group...go into search on the viewer and look for Firestorm support or something like that. Join the group and you can send a group chat message directly to them and they'll answer the question almost right away. If you can't find the group, shoot me an IM inworld and I'll see if I can add you as a member. edited: because I tried to be fancy with my response and it just didn't work....
  5. Howdy... My first question would be what version of FS are you using? The 4.5 Beta is HORRIBLE with lag. I just uploaded the 4.6 version and it seems to be much better...but I only used it for a few minutes last night (after it took 45 minutes to download..and FS is aware of the problem). If you haven't upgraded, try that first. If you have, I might suggest the Firestorm support group inworld. They should have an answer to your lag question. Good luck ETA: Then again, it could just be the SL servers. Who knows....

Explain your problem briefly and provide a valid current email so the support team can reach you. https://support.secondlife.com/create-case/ You will be asked to prove your identity (passport, driving license..) so LL can identify your avatar. Good luck. http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Password-and-account-information/ta-p/700017 If that doesn't work......you'll be...let me let some science folks explain it. :matte-motes-sunglasses-3:
  7. Makes me kind of sad that she got her computer to log her into SL http://community.secondlife.com/t5/General-Discussion-Forum/Can-t-login/td-p/2538788 :matte-motes-sunglasses-3:
  8. Ilvenna wrote: Tex: Thanks for the tip. Madelaine: I suppose I should clarify that I'm trying to add an inworld profile picture, not a forum avatar. But thanks for the tip! That's helpful to know. OK...maybe some more helpful advice this time. If you're trying to put a picture in your profile through one of the viewers, provided the picture is either in your photo album or your textures, you should just be able to click on the photo on the profile then the photo in your inventory. The only reason I could think of that it wouldn't work is if it was uploaded in a different format and got sent to another area of your inventory. Maybe try reuploading it to your inventory??? OK..probably NOT more helpful. :matte-motes-sunglasses-3:
  9. Not sure if I can help you with the first problem...but....
  10. LaskyaClaren wrote: Hi Carla, Welcome to the SL Forums! There are many people here who would undoubtedly be delighted to help you, alongside the requisite selection of cranky "Hey-Kids!-Get-Off-My-Lawn" types. 11. Good morning... I know I'm coming late to the party, but wanted to put in my two cents worth...which is probably worth much less than that. 1. Attitude?? You, my dear, started with the attitude... MizzKittenzz wrote: 39+ people viewed, yet no replies??? So nobody has a clue as to why I cannot login? I'm sure it's not gonna hurt to take time out of second life, to answer my question in first life.... If it's a simple thing like the server is down then by all means please tell me... I'm not trying to sound rude... well you are rude. As many have said, this is a forum of users who take time out to help others. Youi might consider thanking some of these people for their assistance. They could have just as easily ignored you longer. 2. Now, on to the problem at hand. a. My first suggestion is that if you are a premium member, call LL directly. Ask them if they have any ideas on what would be causing this. They have a phone number somewhere on their page. I'm sure that someone here could pass that along. b. Have you tried turning everything on and off again? I know it sounds stupid, but when I have connection problems or get funny error messages in SL, I unplug my modem and my router, turn off my computer and start again. Usually, that fixes it. I know it's cliche, but give it a shot. Good luck....
  12. Basically, I think Amethyst is correct. Most of these people have either never had an account or were only in for a very short time. A big problem with SL when you start is that you wind up at Welcome Island with a bunch of morons (watch some of THOSE youtube videos) or newbies and have no idea where to go from there. Granted, there are (or were..I haven't been there in a while) gateways to other areas, but even there you have no idea what to do or where to go. The only contact a newbie gets there are hateful comments from people who have never left the island or bite requests from Vamps or Lychans. I know when I had my first account, I had at least an idea of what I was looking for. I hopped around for a while and eventually met some people who had similar interests. SL is what you make it. It can be a great experience or it can be #7 on this list. Just my two cents....
  13. Hello and welcome to SL I might suggest that you join a few of the groups inworld. Find something that you enjoy doing...clubs, music, movies..even adult stuff...and there's probably a group that caters to it. Once you find it, join. You get 42 groups to be part of, so go for as many as you want. Once you're in there...send an group chat or IM the owner of the group. You'll be surprised as to how receptive people usually are. Don't be shy...SL is a wonderous place. Get out there and experience it. Good luck
  14. Blu Cazalet wrote: Hi, I have a friend who just signed on to SL. I was going to be her guide, but she doesn't show up in search yet. Any idea how long it takes for someone to show up there (or is it immediately)? Thanks! Blu Cazalet I know it's not immediate. I believe it takes a day for a new resident to show up in search. Give it a few days, just to be on the safe side. Meanwhile, if she's going to let you guide her, have her friend you. Or you could friend her from her profile using the conversations that you've had already. Hope that makes sense...my brain's kind of mushy from the snow...
  15. Howdy.. If you're under 30 or 60 days old, I would suggest checking out the Fab Free website. http://fabfree.wordpress.com/ They used to have, although I didn't see it when I last looked, a list of places where you can get free avatars. They also list the hunts and other things where you can find the items that you need. Good luck.
  16. mysteryhouse wrote: Hello i got a question. A number of questions, actually.... What is second life? You've gotten the answers for the most part. It's a virtual community made up of lots of different people doing lots of different things. You need to get out and explore to find out what suits you. some people say sl is sl and rl is rl but when it comes to transfering money from sl to rl and be able to live of it? Well, SL is SL and RL is RL..sometimes the lines cross. Not many people (I don't think) can sustain their lives in SL alone. There are some who have, but they are the exception, not the rule. If you're coming into SL to stop working in the real world...you'll be very disappointed. what does that make sl? rl right? or when people date in sl and meet in rl and live happy ever after.. ? Again...SL is what you make it. And as for people living happilly ever after...that is the exception. It does happen and there are plenty of threads talking about that. But for the most part it doesn't. Hope that helps a bit...
  17. Twenty?? Why you rotten kids...all you do is complain... and keep off my lawn, you young whipper snappers *grabs his cane and goes to sit on his rocking chair* :matte-motes-sunglasses-3: (Edited to add picture)

Guess I'll try the dreaded search...lol! The former teen grid will show up as a small Mainland-type continent; much appears to be a direct copy of the equivalent regions of Sansara. There isn't much to see but some of it has an interesting unintentionally post-apocalyptic feel. You may as well start at http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Oasis/217/80/11 Someone also mentioned that you might be able to access it from here... http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Nix/11/10/41 Can't verify the accuracy of that though...

  22. Janelle Darkstone wrote: Why aren't these lovely, helpful responses located someplace, with helpful, common sense search terms so the average newbie user can find it? Better yet, why can't we get a no-nonsense, LL-approved question and answer and straight dope on each and every setting and checkbox in preferences? Isn't that what we and the forums are for, Janelle.....to figure out problems that LL either isn't aware of or doesn't think it's that important to them?? Why pay your staff to figure out something that the residents who actually use the system are willing to work out for themselves??
