  1. i think that NPCs will probably not have intersim teleport capability to start with. will be to easy to greif-crash a sim otherwise by overloading it maybe
  2. if you running a business then VAT payments are typically offset by VAT receivables. as you not receiving any VAT by renting for L$ then all the payments should be deductible if you renting for R$ off-world then you will have to charge your customers VAT, as is the same as on-selling server space or web services you will have to pay income tax on any profits that you make either way LL quite explicit that L$ is not a legal currency. your tax department tho may consider L$ to be value in lieu if you receiving L$ and claiming VAT, even when the L$ sitting in ur LL account and you not cash it out lots of people get caught out by value in lieu transactions of all kinds, not just online either. like if i trade as a business in cars and swap them with cash difference. business income is based on total value of the transaction not just on the cash part best to talk to ur tax accountant about this
  3. most people who grief at infohubs do it to provoke dwama in the chat. dont know why some infohub regulars cant help themselves and indulge the griefers by doing exactly that
  4. just need to remember that the land is not an investment in the sense that you will get a return on it. is an operating cost (the tier) sion chicken is good example of a very successful business that didnt need hardly any land at all to sell chickens. the chickens needed land to breed once sold, but sion didnt need land to house them for sale. so sion only got and paid tier on a tiny parcel. a stall in Brown i think it was. some of the other breedables that followed have whole sims, more that one even. maybe their sales can justify the operating costs, but is not always necessary to do this oracul the same as sion. they sell one of the most popular AOs. the business run out of a quite tiny parcel compared to some other animations makers, yet oracul have as many and more even animations. their tier (an overhead) is way lower and they able to pass on some of this savings to their customers in their product pricing lots of people somehow trap themselves into the idea that they need a big parcel to make a successful business. like bigger is better and then argue that bigger is all about advertising and marketing. look successful be successful. that not always follow tho better business is about making a profit. so keeping your overheads down is where it starts
  5. is also a physics slider on the graphics preferences. can set it to 0 so that nothing jiggles on ur screen even if other people are wearing a physics layer on their avatar
  6. not sure is many people wanting to employ someone to lick their nuggets. not sure exactly what that means. is like a french polisher ???
  7. the reason that mainland parcels held their prices for so long was bc of speculation and land-cutting and ad farming. was a game for most people who were doing it. people complained and complained and in the end LL made it a crime to cut and adfarm mainland. so those guys stopped buying land and the price started to fall then the speculators who werent cutting but were buying the cut land hoping to score, or buying land in regions that werent cut hoping to score even more, couldnt get the prices they were getting before so they stopped buying as well, and the price fell more. after all the speculators and adfarmers and landcutters were out of the market then it showed that there werent all that many geniune mainlanders anyways wanting to buy land to actually use. so that put a big squeeze on the mainland real estate firms and lots of them went to the wall and stopped buying. prices fell even more and the only people who were genuinely interested in living on mainland were left and they didnt have to buy back the view anymore so they stopped buying land they didnt need to and down the price went again the other effect is that mainlanders who live in the wopwops and the backblocks are mostly solitary people, like they mostly tool about on their own or with just one or two friends over now and again. they quite a bit dif to linden homes people in what they do if you a social person then the mainland places where there are communities are quite few compared to all of it. if you cant get into them places then can be quite lonely living on the mainland, like isolated. so social people like that tend to drift off to the islands bc is way more communities on them that are more affordable for them to get a parcel on sometimes people say there is a mainland glut and get quite upset and LL should do something like reduce tier or make everyone pay premium so they have to have land to play and other stuff like that. if LL did reduce tier then I wouldnt pay more tier. i would just get more land up to what Im paying in tier now. even if i didnt have any use for the extra land. i would just get it bc
  8. I lost my kittykat off my parcel one time. it just went poof gone. 2 days later i log in and it was back in my objects inventory folder. have had other lost stuff returned like that as well. so maybe you will get back as well. hope so. other thing to try is the script info button on the About Land. bc is scripted will show in the list if is on the parcel. if it does show then can pick it on the list and click the Return button.
  9. i read once that people who think about exercising are 5% healthier than people who dont think about it. something to do with brain activity or wires or something so i think about it a lot now then i have to lie down on the couch and have a rest bc my brain gets tired and bc is quite hard to nap standing up and not fall over (:
  10. if is going to be a target fps then i think 24 be it. i think 24 is same rate as television the newest alpha 3.2.1 viewer is quite fast i have a nvidia 230m card on my laptop. 4gig ram on windows 7 on med settings and 2x antialiase on my mainland parcel by myself then ... if basic shader then get like average 46fps if atmospheric shader then 32fps if shadows on then 18fps until i move my camera then kaboom!!! (: the official releases a lot slower like about 20-30% less fps. shadows about 40-50% less fps
  11. would like to be able dock buttons to the top please if is also possible then: option to not have labels on bottom bar buttons (and top) option to dock mini-location bar on menu bar next to last menu like on v1 option to have navigation buttons, back, forward and home as dockable buttons. so can just have them and not have to have location bar at same time. option to dock listy type floaters on left or right. of main window. like inventory, appearance, places, people. also if could dock build floater on left or right then that be good as well. option to dock nearby chat on bottom bar. so if chat button is pressed then it slide out to fill space on bottom of screen option to align buttons. like on sides, align top, bottom, center. on topbottom then align left, right, center. tnks(: is pretty good this one. i like it heaps \o/
  12. Is my opinion that stuff should be opt in. I can accept that is OK to presume that I opt-in by coming on other persons parcel. If I don't then I don't really see why anyone would want to do any kind of that scripty stuff you mention if I don't, other than just bc they want to know. Like why does anyone need to know what is my AgentInfo if I am not on their land and not engaged in whatever they doing. If is bc say roleplay like combat and stuff that can go over many dif parcels on sim or sims then most roleplay like that done with a HUD. Can easy have HUD scripts chat to each other on a private channel to inform where other people with same HUD are.
  13. Ya sorry. I word that badly. I was meaning if script is not on same parcel as you. I edit to make that more clear.
  14. When the stealth visibility thingy first came in I thought be better if when On, then other avatars dots not show on your map and minimap and your dot not show on theirs either. I live on ground on mainland. I find now that I prefer to see dots on mini-map so if is someone is stand by my parcel then I can know that even if I cant see them. Bc if I got parcel stealth visibililty On and banline Up which I do when I am try on my outfits then I can see if they moving or not. Like if they moving toward my parcel then is poss they going to go over my banline and maybe stop to have a gink. In that case I rather shoot them at boundary than maybe not notice them over my parcel til some time later (: I think tho be better for more people if was option for full Hide Me when on your parcel from everyone not on the parcel. Like hide me from everything: map, mini-map, search, groups, scripts, chat, nearby list, everything. If get IM or stuff sent to you from other avatar not on same parcel then they get Avatar Offline message. To make fair then you can't read any Group Chat at all if you in Hide Me mode on your parcel except for the Group that owns your parcel if is deeded. Can't IM or send anything to anyone not on same parcel til you Unhide yourself either. Also I think that scripts that scan can only get report on avatars on same parcel as object with script in. llOverMyLand should not be optional. Is really annoying when you on mainland and get spammed by a script on a parcel that you not even on. Can mute if you can find and AR owner if you want, but is sucky way to deal with things like that. Best to just not be able to script that kinda stuff. Is OK for them to scan you if you on same parcel as script but I dont think is OK they can do that if you not. Other thing I would also like is that when is parcel stealth visibility On and banline Up then if other avatar is on parcel but on top of banline box then can't cam into the box. Would be perfect for me that and I not have to shoot anyone ever. LL looking for ways to make land ownership more attractive and get more tier for themselves. If they make a full Hide Me option that works on a parcel for the owners and their friends when they come to visit then maybe more people will get some land of their own.
  15. Just need to think about your neighbours really. Like what your view would be like if their place had one of them giant orbs that animate. Specially if their place is between you and the sunset or sunrise. They OK though if you pick a spot that is not on same level as anyone else. Easy way to look at the dif levels is to sit on a box and then Edit it while you sitting and change the Z position axis.Is like a superduper instant teleport. Can just go up and down till you find a quiet spot for yourself with no one else say within 128m.
  16. Is no real best height. Just pick a spot that is not too close to any neighbours. Try to go above the clouds. Sometimes people not do that just go up under them so they get a cool view of the land below. Thing about that tho is that if is a sucky build then them people get good view of neighbours fab build and neighbour has to look at their ugly bum. Avatar name ban only work up to 768 meters at moment, is legacy thing from olden days. LL spose be changing that soon so will go all way up to 4096m. Group access / banlines will stay the same I think, up to 50 meters above terrain level. So people on vehicles can still fly over. If you want privacy up in the sky then the option in About Land to restrict view of avatars to parcel works so you not able to cam the neighbours and them not you. But if people fly under or over your skybox then when on your land can still cam you. So if you want private then will prob have to get a security orb or something like that. ETA: prob the worst place to pick is over 4000m depending on your neighbour. When people learning to build they lose a lot of stuff on Z axis, like they type in 5000 instead of 5.000 and whoosh up it goes to 4096meters. Some them lost prims can stay up there forever.
  17. Charolotte Caxton wrote: http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Group There is a brief mention here (scroll down to Groups) that groups with only one person are disbanded, unless they own land, but I couldn't find any more specifics about that. I think is because if is two, say you and your bff and you pay the Tier and then your now exbff had a hissy and left the group bc you went away on RL holiday for like a week or two. If they did that and the group was auto-disbanded after 48hours then you not be able to get control back over your own land. Not be able to get the Tier out either. Would prob have to make a ticket to fix.
  18. Sims on old TG like Ni, Hippoden, Hyperion and Loki they built up with Linden structures like Bay City. They 2x prims. The claim date on Hyperion and Loki is April 27 2011. Not sure why. Prob some changes been made. Gordon the old vehicle rez sim. Is mostly Gov Linden claim Oct 31 2003. Is some private parcels as well on the side, most for sale now by private owners. Most been claimed Sep 2011. Not sure if they always been private. Never noticed before now. Alloy got pathways as well like Lusk. Is some others as well. On Nailsworth is North Blueway bridge. The land it on been claim by LDPW Feb 2 2011. Was part of larger block of Gov Linden land. That part still owned by Gov Linden. Not sure why LDPW sometimes only claim some of the protected land on a sim to build on and not all it. I think things be better understood if they claim it all. Is all kinds linden land on Nailsworth. Some by LDPW. Some by Gov Linden which got diff names and descriptions. Some Protected land, some Abandoned Land and some that have names like this: Nailsworth (186,126) General 7264m, claim Jan 21 2009 and nothing in description. Is possible that this is Protected Land bc is water land next to Blueway bridge. But it not say in name so is more probly old abandoned land just not marked. Is also possible that was a misunderstanding by the person who sell to OP and LL actual only auction an Abandoned parcel next door. But is a bit kinda mixed up the Linden land on old TG all over, so can see how that maybe happened.
  19. The thing with the old Teen Grid continent is that many of the sims had Linden-owned spaces between the resident parcels. Like how they are on the Linden Homes continents and at old-world places like Brown and Lusk. Is kinda sad to hear that LL now maybe selling off those spaces like what RL infill housing developers do. If LL are to arrest abandonment and increase mainland mass ownership like in the heyday of 2007-2008 they need think about how to make smaller properties out in the wopwops more desirable. Best way I think is to create more green space, like little parks scattered all over, even out of 512s and smaller. Small starter parcels like 512s and 1024s next to them then become more desirable and command a higher resale value for the owners when they move on to bigger parcels or go private estate.
  20. The main prob is how to distinguish between parcels both owned by Governor Linden. One parcel being the road or other public space and the other kind being a parcel abandoned to the Governor by a resident previous to the program start date. For a program to clean up the previous, someone would have to make a list of the parcel locations and/or set a marker in the land name or description that the program could use to identify which to clear and reset for sale and which to leave alone. LL prob worked out that if someone is going to have to do this then they might as well clear and reset the land theselves while they there and deal with any other issues not factored into the program. The Linden people doing this are pretty good about things, they systematically working their way across the grid and also re-assigning the public parcels to the LDPW. If you on a sim with some of these kinds parcels that they not got to yet then just AR Governor Linden as derelict owner of parcel, and a Linden will come and fix it up usually within a day or so.

Teach a man to fish and you've just destroyed your marketbase." I read it and laughed and said something like, "nice sign". He went into a ten minute spiel, breaking down the original,"Teach a man to fish", idiom and explained to me why that attitude was " bad for the country". Scary, scary guy. The exact quote is "give a man a fish, you've fed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, you've fed him for a lifetime." I think the guy with the sign was prob making the point that when everyone goes fishing the rivers and oceans soon run out of fish. So we introduce quotas and licensing to stop this happening. Downside is that if you cant get a license then you cant go fishing even if you know how.
  22. And signs. "!!! GET OFF MY LAWN !!!" :womantongue:
  23. They kinda coming back. At least on the new Zindra Gateway. Adult Grid Mentors group (I think is the name) being recognised by LL as the official resident group of helpers for that place. If it works out over there then we prob see the other Mainland Welcome Areas put under resident group-managed control as well. Bit like how some of the really old Mainland Infohubs are still run. If LL do this then I think would be good if they give the official Resident Gateway groups banning powers over the land the group administers.
