  1. like u say they a real pain. runitai linden and the gfx team been working really hard on the gfx pipeline to make all the shining fixes for the newer gfx cards. thats their priority right now seems like. i think they right to make that the priority. after they get all that done then is possible it will also fix a lot of the probs that deliberate malformed textures can cause seems to be several mods that ppl can do to make a homebrew greifer tpv that not crash themselves, just everyone else. linden seems to be well aware of the problem as the accounts that make these kinda things get deleted from the people list pretty quick eta: one way ppl can help is to turn on the crash logger. linden tech then get hard data direct about these problems. that way seems to be more effective to get changes and fixes than make a AR that gets filtered thru the governance team who maybe not always have the knowledge to deal with these kinda probs eta again (: just to be complete. sometimes the greif vector is a bug exploit in the gfx driver. linden cant do much about them bc they have to write to the api standard and not try do tricks of their own to get around them. is way to hard to start down that way and is counter-productive really. those kinda bugs need be fixed by the driver makers themselfs

  3. looking at ur map pic then its LR 228. the brown building just a bit to the north of where u are standing. the machines, including the quest machine in the main workshop at base camp, works by u just standing on the platform. u dont have to click anything. if u dont get any feedback on the HUD or in the chat when u stand on the machines platform then its borked and u just have to try again later on

  5. onlyt the profile pics for secondlife and reallife are free on v3. it changed to free when linden made profiles a web thing in v2. they not uploaded to ur inventory like normal textures are anymore u still have to pay 10L for inventory textures unloads in v3. no temp uploads either in v3

  9. total uninstall of everything sl related usually fix it can use the free version of ccleaner to do that http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner best to use the registry cleaning tool in ccleaner as well after u done a full uninstall of everything including any sl officials and tpvs. is heaps of sl-related artifacts in ur windows registry that the uninstallers not remove then reboot, dl the official sl viewer and install that. once u got that running properly and u can login ok then look at install other tpvs after that

  13. one of the ideas is that a ugc hud/game service could be done as a plugin that suppress certain lsl functions or even bypass the sim script server altogether on a sim or estate where that capability is enabled. would be quite a few ppl be interested in making roleplay/game/event/teaching type client side plugins that interact with their game/event/supply service both in and outside sl even things like granting access to the estate. can only come to our estate if u have our plugin loaded. can see schools that teach 3D building classes using something like that. maybe even making exam and test modules plugins as well for their students. not just rl schools but inworld schools as well is all kinds of possibilities really. is quite a few caveats about all this tho and probly needs lots more thought. loading a plugin is a opt-in mechanic tho so can ameliorate lots of stuff just bc of that
  14. has been lots of chat over the years about this. seems the consensus is a viewer that has a plugin framework and a proper API. linden not ready to do that yet seems like. some tpv makers have looked at it. is a whole heap of work to do tho and not many ppl got enough free time to do it
  15. hi mariah (: groups the secret to SL if u like art and crafts then join the LEA groups. Linden Endowment for the Arts. is open to join. they always having events and shows and send u a notice when they on Show and Tell events also really cool to meet ppl. ppl make stuff and show it. is really good to see what they make coffee shop groups also. is quite a few of them. just find as many as u can and join them. most them open join as well. go to their coffee shops and u will soon find ppl to chat. is why everyone else goes to them as well. to meet up and chat and make friends and not too much drama u can also try Caledon. is lots of older ppl live and socialise on them sims. is oldy worldy elegant there. they have salon hours and get speakers in sometimes. to get on there go to Caledon Oxbridge University and ask the deans and professors. is usual one or more of them on most times. they be happy to introduce u to their world

  18. like knowl said. passion the main thing. can even be critical passion. can feel the passion of the author when u read their blogs. can also feel their disinterest and boredom even if is technically well written. if the author project that disinterest in their style then readers soon become disinterested in them as well after a time and not visit anymore if hunts ur passion then just start doing. tell stories about ur adventures and misadventures doing them. they always fun to read and stories touches ppl after a time the ppl who make hunts and have shops and stuff will find u and ask if they can be included in ur blog like commercially. that a better way bc by then u got ur own readership and u not dependent only on the commercial aspects for success of ur blog
  19. in olden days i had a intel integrated gfx card and only 256M memory. lol was like mud. so can know how u feeling about crashing into things and getting stuck i just made like a game in the end. like i am way smarter than any old dumb program. i can win this game (: so i learn lots of tricks main ones was to turn down everything in the gfx settings. also in the Advanced menu is rendering options. like trees and foot shadows and ground and other stuff. turn as many off them as poss other main thing was to always open the map b4 teleport. if is more than like 4 ppl already there then not go and go another time a little thing i learn early was to use to Goto when was a bit busy and i had to go that sim anyways. like pick some random person who is close by where u want to go and Goto them. and say hi !!! and then do same to next person (: other thing i got was a Follow hud script. is lots freebie iones u can get. like just pick some random person or a friend and click the hud and follow them. when they walk u get a free tow. was heaps ppl used to do that way in them days of slower computers
  20. again am not sure about in cool, but some the v1 style viewers have a history dialog. like u say the UI quite a bit a dif to v3. just have to click the buttons and menus and see what is see u figure the view thingy out so \o/ for that (: henri who makes the cool is add stuff from v2 and v3 into his viewer. is probly a heap of other things in there as well
  21. since the realms open to public i not go on there much. when was in beta then i play all the time. is not really fair for person like me to take all the bigger money crystals now when is new ppl still try to learn. the blue and greens harder to get now bc is way more ppl playing now than b4. so they get scoomed up pretty quick when they appear if i go now then is usual with other person who not been on there b4. i just run the safe paths and they follow and i run past where the green and blues grow and they scoom them and any orange we run past. sometimes if they not very good runners then i stand in a safe place and whistle to them in IM. hunt away away left left ur other left. and get in behind, bc we moving to other place. some my frends go woofwoof when i do like that jejejejjejjeje (: : + that one on the little island really hard to get. get ur jump wrong and death. so well done (: + one thing i have noticed and maybe just maybe is cause your problem. the game is designed so that u can only do each quest once. if the game server has tagged u as completing a quest then u not get any further feedback on that one. so if u crash out or have logged out b4 completing the quest u been given, then is poss that u tagged as complete on that one also is quite dangerous to use the map to teleport. can crash u bigtime sometimes. some of the ressurection circles not work at all if u try to map teleport to them and kaboom !!! edit: now i think about it is maybe more simple than that. if server tag u as starting a quest and ur hud or viewer breaks then it wont give u the quest again. and u not able to get feedback bc server thinks u already have it. u cant complete the quest next time bc u on a diff instance of the game when u log back bc u cant relog back onto that same sim and have to go thru the portal park. maybe is something like that
  22. i dont think so in the v1. was introduce in v2 i think the front view. not sure tho bc i havent used a v1 for ages. it maybe be in Phoenix tho but not sure about that either. that an oldskool v1 style viewer as well and can do mesh. phoenix has heaps of extra things in it that official v1 doesnt when i use the v1 in olden days i just used to hold left mouse on my head and move mouse to change the view to the front
  23. i understand the process is that qarl will make something. he then get feedback from users. he keep modding til he is satisfied. he then submit a code contribution to linden like everyone else does. linden will then look at it and decide if they can use. if they can use will probly be decided by how much extra work they may have to do to integrate into the sl ecosystem qarl already signal that his code only a proof on concept at this stage and not production code. he say in the video that runitai linden probly going to have a fit when he sees the code bc the code pretty much use brute force at the moment for proof of concept is ok to do that way. at the moment the code is kinda like a powerpoint presentation of a website and not a actual website. not yet anyways tpv makers putting in some their viewers bc they just want to see the presentation and so they can give feedback to qarl is long ways to go yet. is exactly ur kinda feedback that qarl needs. u make animations and i already seen how the deformer not working very well with more involved animations. why i have no idea. u probly got a way better understanding of it than me
