  1. I've used both and TBH it's kinda a issue of same story diffrent day. the only thing is a lot of things you might want don't run under mac because up until recently it;s not been as popular a os. Also making a custom mac (versus a custom PC) I think it smore difficult and replacing parts in a mac is a lot of times not doable (at least for the avarage user). But really both are good os's

I think this is the chain of events (more or less): New users hear about SL from some source...they create an AV...wind up at the welcome center, completely lost with no idea of what to do. They look around for help...probably don't find it. Wander around for a while..probably going to the adult sims. Can't figure out what the purpose of this "game" is, get frustrated and leave. Maybe it's like "National Lampoon's Vacation", but I wouldn't call SL a vacation place... :matte-motes-sunglasses-3: That's why we should really go back to c ommunity portals. The community actually staffed those and where available for questions to new players. Why we got rid of that I'll never know:/

I wore my newly textured mesh dress, and saw the see through hair bits happening again. So I went back into photoshop, saved the png as NO transparency, retextured my mesh dress and the hair was fine So, that seems to be the answer.... ? Yes it's because the game code( and this happens in all games just some know how to minimize the effect) don't know how to sort the transperancies. another alternative is to change the hair texture to a jpg one thiw would alos elemant the issue.
  4. Frawmusl wrote: Couple days later Is it... Is it impossible to find hair that won't shoot you up 50,000+ on the arc? Honestly....not really. Even womens hair is bad like that. To be fair though ARC is aTERRIBLE indicator of how much lag your creating...since it doesn't account for a lot of things...like textures and it was never accurate and the numbers very from veiwer to veiwer... I have a thing against ARC...I even wrote a looong and well researched notecard for ARC bullies. Used to be a ton of those ARC nazis about..though they've died down lately. It's like the same thing as people who kick you out of events based on number of scripts...Number of scripts isn't an accurate portrail of how much memory those scripts take up. some script are more effecient. ANNNNNNYWHO now I've done my rant on how ARC is a peice of crap.... I will say as someone who went to college for animation I can practically SEE the 12000 polygons going on in those hairs...and for a game (not an animated movie) that's just terrible... I mean just render a frame with that would take FOREVER. so yeah... I can see why you wouldn't want that ARC or no...but all the hairs are like that....even womens... LITTERALLY EVERY HAIR I'VE SEEN!
  5. you might try posting examples of your translation work and give prices for how much it would cost to translate per word? like you know 300L per hundred words...or something like that, I don't know what's reasonable for that but you get the idea. Other wise stripping and sex is the other option for noobs desprite for money. On another note though if it's just about improving avatar look maybe try googling second life freebies and see what's out there.
  6. Malanya wrote: Depends on who you ask.. I think. I am not too clear on it myself, also room for me to understand why I have to be the one to pay my bills too. I am open for suggestions I'm also open for suggestions. I don't get why I have to pay my rent and buy my own food each week...shouldn't people pay that for me? and also give me a whole free sim in SL to do with as I wish? I'm confused...
  7. maybe you could save it as a .obj file? then reimport it it should update it then right? I dunno I haven't used blender (im more familiar with light wave and 3dsmax)but it's an idea...
  8. actualy orcal and tuty's has fairly inexpensive animation overrides that are very nice.
  9. The art standred for eye spacing is one eye sized distance inbetween. which it looks like you have tbh.

Yep, I definetly shoulda put this in employment. The "bodygaurd" thing was my hook, and it sure worked, but maybe not quite as I intended. I figured once you read it what I was looking for would be pretty clear; sorry if I confused anyone. Thank you for the mostly helpful advise, and the humour, that is always fun reading! :matte-motes-little-laugh: I will say I have spent many hours doing research, and I certainly don't expect to be an SL expert overnight. Actually at this stage I'll bet my questions are really basic, and it would be easy for most anyone to answer, and pick up a few L$. As to my inworld friends, yeah, I think I'd be annoyed if I was constantly pestered with noob questions, so I thought I'd see if I could find another resource, in addition to them, the FAQs, posting here, youtube, and googling, all of which I do all the time. Your right Syo Emerald, I figured the ppl here with several years would know quite a bit but yes, there are some things I'm not interested, so I will never know, and the same I'm sure applies to everyone. I will be more specific next time. Ima Rang - hahaha, I love your response. How much is 6000L$? I think you are most definitely out of my price range, but thank you for making me smile. :matte-motes-bashful-cute-2: Alesium, yes, I do not expect to learn anything major quickly, i know it is going to be a long journey. And yes, I am a member of NCI, that is a great resource, which I only just discovered a few days back, and it is fantabulous! Alicia Sautereau, although your rate is a little less than Ima's, you're both just a little on the pricey side for my budget. Morgaine Christensen, yes, sigh, I am re-thinking the wording in my post. And thank you for the building tips - i will def add those resources to my list. And i definitely agree with your sig, i have to do things to learn; i'm not good with theory. Thank you all, and please don't forget to... Have a grey8 SL Day! :matte-motes-smile: you can message me as well. I have a few years experience in photoshop and know alittle animation and modelling (but in lightwave and 3dsmax don't really know blender to well) I also have skill in webpage deisgn (never know when you might need that lolz) I like to make clothing most... I don't know scripting in sl though. but if you have qestions related to those things I do know feel free to ask me.

Malanya wrote: Well, I think so At least something similar, especially when you post threads like this http://community.secondlife.com/t5/Wanted/empty-sim/m-p/1915125 and then a few months later within days post something like this http://community.secondlife.com/t5/Wanted/Need-land-for-vice-combat/m-p/2048675 Not posting to be rude, but what is wrong with understanding how much land costs and real people pay with real money? These topics come up for "I need a home and will pay you when I get some money" a lot too. you mean it's not common for people to have infinite money and empty plots of land? I don't understand.
  12. You might wanna include photos of your avie for the modelling job and links to your blog for blogging people will want to know if your avie looks good or your writing style if there going to hire you for it.
  13. You stole from a rl creator basically. Just because other people do it doesn't mean you should. What you can do if your looking for drawings and things to put on your shirts is look up public domain images. There are many images that are pretty popular that have gone into public domain. The original (not disney's) alice in wonderland is one of them.
  14. I'm not really a fan of the third one. It looks to flat to me. The shade is nice but the skin looks "flat" in terms of lighting and such.
  15. Tamara Artis wrote: When you go to hair salon, do you bring your own shampoo. towell, scissors and everything else thats needed to get a decent haircut? Or you just want to relax and let the experts do their work? to be fair some hair salons charge extra for washing your hair.... and for apply mousse and that sort of thing...usually the cheaper salons do. But then again they compensate for this by being cheaper. I think if your starting out you can get away with expecting people to have there own poses if you charge a cheaper rate. Like maybe 300L or something? I would still at least have slurls to nice locations or a plot of land to rez prims on that are white so you can 'shop them into locations at the very least though.
  16. you could try some of the games that have come out lately there's a game for fishing and one for hunting coins. Not sure what there called. Payout isn't great ont hem though. There's also a thing that pays you for visiting peoples land xamount of minutes is x amount of lindens. Also has terrible payout rates. If you just want a nice looking avatar and aren't worried about anything else then to start out with I would try googling second lfie freebies and checking the blogs and flicker sites dedicated to free clothing and skins. That's a great way to start out. I still however feel that at some point you should consider paying into sl a little bit because freeloading while nice for you is a downer for merchants as it cost money to create in the long run.
  17. Spinell wrote: I don't think it's the dress. I have a mesh dress and hair that I made for myself: the dress has no alphas, since it's perfectly adjusted to my body, but the hair has transparency, just just Truth's. I still get this error once in a while, with no real obvious reason why. When I went looking for answers in some help groups, they said it's just SL's imcompatibility to process multiple layers on top of each other. There's really nothing we can do and, as the creator of these items, they didn't give me any solution for the problem. It's actually the combination of the dress and hair. if your dress has any invisible portion at all and your wear something with an a invisible portion on top (technically these invisible portions are called alphas which is not the same as an alpha layer in sl) then it will become see through. It happens in all games it's just that other games have proffessionals who work to minimize this issue. It's 'caused by an inability to properly sort the alphas. That said what you can do is make a copy of the hair (ALWAYS SAVE A BACKUP) and replace it's texture with a texture that has no invisible areas( AKA alphas). I have a hair texture that's white with no invisible areas (alphas) in my store under my avie name for 0L you can try out. I created it for people who use prim boobs as this is a huge problem in that community.

  19. Sean Heying wrote: Don't be disheartened by those comments. You have a unique and interesting look that strikes me mostly as a kind but overworked teacher. The other thought that popped into my head was a scientist's assistant who is probably deeply in love with her superior but rather addled and scatterbrained in manner, probably doing things like handing him the wrong things when he asks. I could though imagine that this is the look a housewife has after cleaning a particular dirty oven. Probably green rubber gloves for that one to override the frazzled teacher image. At least you are /not/ a cookie cutter 7 foot blond and buxxom model with bling heels. Kudos for seeking something more real. Definitely a Blake. Me, I see a crotchety, probably very cranky woman. A woman who likely does not accept others, probably complains about the local kids making a rukus in the allery or any noise at all. I see a person who is not pleasant to the average person and is probably not very approachable either. I do not see someone named anything remotely feminine, or kind in nature. Prokofy Neva ?I agree with the cranky thing tbh. It's the narrowed eyes. People tend to read that as cranky be it bad or good. Also baring of teeth in any form shows anger or annoyance to most when combined with narrowed eyes. and yes she is showing her teeth here. I find the whole buck tooth look funny. somewhat akward. I know it's very popular now and that's fine. It's just strange to me as the same thing was popular amongst sims2 creaters like 2 years earlier then in sl...after about 2 or three years everyone realized it was akward looking...in fact most of the creaters who made those lipsticks were saying themselves they thought it was hideous. Ah well I geuss some people like the look and it can be cute in some cases I will say.
  20. Are you wearing an alpha? just checking....but yeah text>male might help you or switching to a defualt avie. If this still happens you may have a corrupted texture so a cache clear maneully.
  21. I think your prices for lessons up there are ridiculously cheap. I paid 1000L on a mesh head once and for that I could make a bunch of them for myself. lolz Will you be teaching only modeling or also UVing? I think for custom meshes it's probably a deal of just asking what the customer is willing to pay and what you'd be willing to deal with. Since it would very from project to project. But considering that non custom mesh and templates cost around 500L I'd probably say no less then 1000L for a custom job unless it was like a two second thing. but these are geusses on my part as I don't mesh (i can't UV properly.lolz) I only texture really.
  22. I would assume that it would work like more emails do....and that is that they just diappear forever into the void that is the internet....
  23. Suspiria Finucane wrote: These are the results I get without using the environmental editor. I use the general midday sun because it is possibly the most common setting. Windlight settings are only for your view and not what others see. There are some light system shadows remaining I can cover with my face light but for this test I turned off local lights to show that normal settings work fine to alleviate the problem. If it weren't for the close up, most wouldn't notice the small shadows. Id on't think setting your computer to ultra is an answer as most can't do this. Even I can't and I have like a low end gaming system. Also face lights piss off anyone who has local lights on which make it not an answer as well. Best answer is to tweak the shape to reduce the wrinkles and learn to accept the flaw in SL's defualt avie mesh.
  24. If you need help learning the basics of SL message me in world I'll take the time to help you learn it. It's a little confusing at first but once you get it it's easy.
