  1. Both parties WANT American elections to be fraudulent. Consider that list you have expressed along with a mile-long list of similar reasons. Anyone who was actually concerned about election integrity would be calling for things like international monitors, paper ballots, vote-counting transparency, UN-ADJUSTED exit polling, etc. In other words, they'd be calling for the same things the US calls the gold standards for election integrity all across the globe. But I never hear cries to bolster election integrity -- just to overturn the results of whatever the last election was because one side or the other didn't like the results. Insofar as this thread, yeah the Democratic party scares the heck out of me (both leadership and rank and file). I separate that from "the left" because clearly there is nothing "left" at all about the party or what it promotes. The actual left is powerless in the United States... that's what the FBI (and now the CIA and NSA) is for. I suspect we'll see another "Patriot Act" under the Biden presidency to clamp the lid down even further.
  2. Wow, awesome tip Arielle. Thanks. Sure enough, going into debug and setting this to TRUE gave me another ~10FPS or a whopping 25% FPS bump.
  3. Let's take this one at a time. Is it porn? Um... not by any normal definition I can think of. I suppose an incredibly repressed person might think of all sex as porn but.... ewwwwww. Is it cheating? I think that's a poor question. Who cares if it is "cheating" or not? That's just a buzz word specifically intended to obscure the facts of the situation with a big red flag. Here's some questions I think are more relevant: Does your wife want you to do this? If not, then whether or not it was cheating before, it certainly is if you do it AFTER knowing that and you hide it from her. That'd be like the textbook definition of cheating. Is it good for your marriage? And here I'm assuming you value your marriage. If you do, then who cares whether it ought to annoy your wife? It does and that's the reality you need to deal with. I had sex with someone in SL a long time ago and honestly I did not see it as being unfaithful to my wife. She did. We had a conversation about it and that was the end of that. Do I feel bad about doing it initially? No I do not. We just didn't see the situation eye to eye. But after the conversation we DID see eye to eye and so it doesn't happen any more. I'd feel pretty bad about myself if I did it now. The bottom line is my wife is important to me and so what bothers her, bothers me.
  4. Plenty of legitimate uses. I scripted up an online detector so that my various electronic devices would buzz me when my girlfriend logged on. It was a convenience and she knew about it. Later, I took her off the detector list because I made a little gizmo for her that let her message me (to my RL devices) directly if she chose. Of course people have non-sketchy reasons for wanting to know when someone else is online.
  5. I guess I don't really separate SecondLife from Real Life that way. SecondLife, like everything else we do and experience, happens in the real world. One way to look at it is that SecondLife is akin to a telephone call... a bit of technology inserted between two people just like the telephony system. In that context, SecondLife relationships are very different than Real Life ones but only because of the changing landscape wherein they happen. For instance, if I had a close female friend with whom I'd been talking for the last 20 years on the phone but she happened to live far away, I would not see that as identical to a similar female friend (or my wife) that I physically see every day. That doesn't mean that the phone relationship is shallow, illusory, or meaningless. But what it does mean is that it's not the same as physically seeing someone every day or living with them under the same roof. Due to the more robust interface between two people that RL offers, the Real Life relationship is inevitably going to have more depth and solidity. Long distance relationships are real. There's no question about that in my mind. Heck, I lived one for a year and change with my wife before she moved and we got married. But talking to her every day on the phone was not the same as living together.
  6. Insofar as I was able, my avatar is me. There were issues with the Gianni body because even at 0 settings, it's WAY too muscular. Heck, at 0 settings, it still looks like a professional body builder. But ignoring the shape of the body, the hair, beard, and wardrobe are all pretty similar. Heh, in the case of the hair and beard, I liked them so much in SL that I grew the beard then went to a high-end barber to get the haircut and beard shaping of my avatar. I took some liberties with the face and gave myself a nose job. My steady dance partner does the same thing. Her avatar is basically the 25 year old version of herself. When we eventually due our RL meeting, we'll both recognize each other. I don't care about absolute height. That's just a number. What I DO care about is the relative heights of myself and my dance partner. So yes, I got out a spreadsheet, figured the ratios, then set my own height to be proper relative to her avatar height. In general I much prefer realism in SL... that includes both avatars and environments. It's often times an odd feeling walking around with non-zero fat sliders, muscles set down at 0, and a moderate height in a world composed of men looking like the incredible hulk and women looking like a Kardashian turned up to 11.
  7. Heh, I readily admit I have no idea how to get an unprocessed, usable photo out of firestorm. I can handle everything else I need in-game. But the gamma is invariably WAY too dark. the actual in-world scene is quite a bit brighter than the captured photo. This is so common that I have a typical adjustment layer I pop on... exposure: +0.5, Gamma: 1.2.
  8. OK, I must be having some sort of brain freeze here but I've found ways to make it play a variety of sounds... but all in-world. what's the function to make a simple client-side beep?
  9. Now that this project is done, I wouldn't mind putting a free mesh body on my alt. But it doesn't appear the LucyBody is available anymore. Do you have a place to get it? If not, anyone got any other suggestions?
  10. No, what I meant was that I'd like mesh that doesn't break down with LOD issues. One major body creator clearly failed totally with LOD and it shows every time someone wearing it appears. I'd like any mesh I get her to be "solid" as opposed to collapsing into triangles at a distance.
  11. I’ll have to ask, oddly it didn’t show up in my list my what is she wearing hud. I don’t think it’s made any more... not sure the maker even exists.
  12. I'd really like to thank you all again. I managed to pickup the Lara body and a quick pass through the sliders tells me it'll be able to match her slim-hipped, B-cup figure nicely. Insofar as the "mesh wars", there isn't really any aesthetic issue here. The only aesthetic judgement is hers and the only acceptable answer is "the same as she looks now". Whatever body can do that with the best selection of TOP quality clothing is the winner. What I like... you like... or someone else likes isn't really a part of the equation. The real problem is going to be the face, not the body. Lara, it appears, will match her slim hipped, b-cup figure quite nicely. The face is a whole other can of worms and what has stopped her in the past. She's got some old mesh head but she's made it into something adorable and personal and, although she gave it a go once or twice, she wasn't able to get that same look on a different mesh head. Her existing head doesn't play well with mesh bodies so she's locked into the classic avatar unless I can get her into a modern, name brand head. And frankly, i don't think she cares about it enough to hammer out the shape issues. In the end, this is just a pet project. She likes how she looks right now so there's no huge need to change. it'd just be nice to have access to a wider selection of clothing. I'm more of a maker in SL than she is so I thought i'd take a stab at it given a free Catwa bento head. May the gods of shape sliders smile upon me. Failing that, maybe Skell will smile on me if I need some help
  13. Thank you all for the help. If Maitreya is still in business that’s where I’ll go largely due to brands like erratic. insofar as “solid mesh” next time I’m at Muddy’s I’ll just find out which major body maker has failed so utterly with their LOD and avoid that one. Regarding shape, my contribution to this is to try to use the Freya head and some body to exactly duplicate her existing mesh head and classic body. So I will know right away if a given body works or not. it sounds like my picks, in order of fashion availability (which is the entire purpose of this upgrade anyway) are Lara, slink, Freya.
  14. Hello everyone. I'm trying to setup a friend's avatar and I picked up the free catwa head and I went to get a Lara body to go with it and... Maitreya is closed? I went to the sim and it appears abandoned. Am I missing something? If not and Maitreya is really out of business, then what I need is a recommendation on bodies. The primary consideration here is access to a wide variety of clothing. As secondary considerations... BOM capable... ideally with the onion skin layers detachable and without using any sort of relay hud. Solid mesh... I don't know which female body it is, but I routinely see women at clubs with partially rezzed, triangle bodies. This body is, apparently, quite popular but whoever designed it did a very poor job with LOD. That sort of thing is unacceptable. Not super curvy. The friend in question has a slim figure in RL and retains it in SL. So no giant butts or breasts. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
  15. Not a snob but perhaps a bit unknowledgeable. The quality of someone's look doesn't have much or anything to do with whether they use a mesh body. It has a lot more to do with their design skills as they put together the avatar. Every single day I see hundreds of full mesh avatars that look hideous. It's more rare, but I find plenty of classic avatars looking very well put together. Insofar as your preferences for mesh avatars, everyone's entitled to their preferences.
  16. "We all"???? I'm running an I7-4790k and Nvidia GTX 1060 3gb. At that, I have to keep my complexity slider at about 125k or so and shadows cannot be rendered at all in any sim with more than a handful of avatars. i've often wondered what sort of system one needs to have to just go ahead and max out the settings and maintain a reasonable framerate anywhere other than home. I, for one, would appreciate more reasonable (or any sort actually) calculations for avatar render weight. I agree on the LI. That ship has sailed.... sadly. They needed to do something about that when they introduced mesh. Having missed that opportunity, i suspect we are just destined to live with the utterly ridiculous render weights even empty clubs tend to have.
  17. Because the way they calculate cost right now is utterly insane yet they decided to go forward with it anyway when they introduced mesh. In theory, there is the Arctan project which is going to redo how LI costs are calculated but that will do nothing for worn items. I'd LOVE to know what was going through their heads when they introduced mesh with no even remotely adequate way to measure it's impact on the grid and the viewer. By the way, I don't think they need to limit creators. I just think the proper render weight for a mesh object needs to be calculated and figured in. Then what we'd see is many of the current items would get a significant increase in LI and worn items would... well.... everyone's complexity would be like 750k or more. At that point, real market forces would be at work. Well designed mesh for rezzing would carry lower LI weights and so people would prefer it over crap mesh. Mesh designed to be worn would be the same thing. Sure you can wear that pear of pants you got from <insert big name creator here>. But congratulation, it just added 300,000 to your complexity so nobody can see it.
  18. Let's see... I have a 1/4 sim parcel. There are only 3 neighbors. I figure being there is "an obvious violation of my personal space". More, why on earth do I care what "a person" encounters when they are trespassing on the land I pay for? They have no good reason for being there and lots of really bad reasons. I got a steady stream of "visitors" including one gent who convinced a young lady that my house was his in order to get some sex. Yeah, you know what I think of the rights of trespassers? I think they don't have any beyond what LL dictates. After that, *poof* they're gone.
  19. Neither one is "my type" but I don't approach women based on visuals anyway. I'd have to be able see both profiles to see if either would get a "Hello" out of me. I do go cruising for dance partners pretty regularly.... or I used to anyway but my current dance partner and I seem to be going steady. When I'm looking I ask a fair number of women wherever I happen to find one who's profile intrigues me. For me, it's all about the profile and I have an awful lot of "red flags" that make a profile a no-fly zone for me. I like to think that's why my contacts with women are so routinely positive.
  20. I agree... most of the tip jars i see show who tipped last but not the amount. I'm fine with that. And honestly, if I tip jar does offend me in some way I can and do just tip the performer directly. I have never understood the point of tip jars and I certainly don't need one to give some money to another resident.
  21. Never witnessed this and I can't imagine any DJ or host behaving this way being employed at the clubs I go to very long. Insofar as "asking for linden love", this happens at most of the clubs I go to and I'm fine with it. The requests tend to be very sparsely paced and more than once, the reminder that it was last chance to get tips in was well taken since i lost track of time in IM's. As far as I'm concerned, two people are sitting up on stage making a party happen. I'm willing to pay them to do it.... ditto with the venue. Scripted responses, of course, are worth nothing.
  22. That was my big question. Why on earth would I care how prolific or popular some poster is? When I read someone's post I'm reading and evaluating based on the content presented in the post. Yeah, I get it that some people do care. Good for them. I hope that's a very small minority.
  23. Fair points (all). So if we wish for clubs to post their full line-up in events every single day (along with likely duplicates from the DJ's themselves, then what you've got is the current scenario.... and endless sea of DJ events and anyone looking for anything other than that is basically hosed. Which gets to the part I quoted, structuring the events better and providing better sorting/filtering options. I'm at work now but in order to really have an intelligent thought on that I'd need to take a close look at why, exactly, I find the events list nearly useless. I suspect that statement is too broad. Almost certainly, there are some sections which work better than others. So then the obvious question is, what is making the information overload problem in those that do not work well? From there, thoughts about how to provide a more useful structure to that information would make sense. I think I'll take a closer inspection when I get home.
  24. OK Bridget. I'm in Muddy's pretty much every single night. I'm curious what sorts of events you would post to the event calendar? I've never looked and can't imagine why I would. I go to Muddy's because it's a great music club. I don't need to know that there's a DJ there.... there is ALWAYS a DJ there. Nor do I need to know what DJ is there. If I am a fan of a particular DJ I'll be in their group so I'll know where they are. If I'm not, then it's "just another DJ" to me. If you post other events there... real events.... I would never know because just as everyone says, the events calendar is something approximating useless. The only value I get out of it is live music and even then it's a pain. I should think it'd work in your favor to have your actual events be actually usable to people. You seem to think otherwise. Can you clarify what sort of "events" you are talking about and how you expect me, a Muddy's customer, to take advantage of those listings?
  25. My graphics settings are manually tweaked but largely "ultra". My max complexity for various graphics presets are: Club: 125k Normal: 350k Photo-Pre: Unlimited I regularly walk around in the photo mode without issues but in busy clubs (I'm looking at YOU Muddy's), I simply can't afford to let the heavy hitters eat into my FPS so they get jelly'd. Unfortunately, none of that really means much until we get arctan. Avatar complexity, to my knowledge, bears little resemblance to the actual load borne by the graphics card.
