  1. Things to consider are how you want to use it, anything that relies on scripts will be a bit slower on homesteads as you share the resources with three other homesteads and if one of those others or more are script hogs that can slow things down. If you want somewhere to be able to plan out something for the size of a full sim, homesteads are amazing in that regard. Best thing to do is to try renting one that is not going to be some expectation of long term, try a rental week to week, see how it plays out and then find something a little more permanent.
  2. I have been too immersed. I scream in RL if I fall off something, I have been know to dive into water because a top didn't load and i was suddenly topless so water meant I was hidden and then I could wait until the top went on, see even my immersion has immersion . I notice when people seem to be missing, not even friends, just people I know should be around somewhere. I feel SL too much sometimes. I walk around events more than camera shop, if I am inside too much I have to go outside, I actually feel the 'fresh air' as ridiculous as that is, I actually feel like I have had a breather by being outside doing something. When I had my Sim The Deck, we used to have a lady that came once a week in full workout gear and she would jog the sim, it was built in a way that you could run around it like a track but it was a commercial sim, outdoors seaside kind of style. I spoke to her one day about it, and she said that it really started her day off happily, I loved that I had created a space to do that. I used to have tai chi matts rezzed out also and people would come and tai chi, there is just something about SL in that regard that you can get away from the walls and tall buildings etc, get the sand in your toes so to speak.
  3. I would suggest visiting locations that you think you would enjoy hosting at, and seeing if you can learn from them and possibly be considered for employment in the future.
  4. Ugh I got caught up again.... still relevant answers but bah phoeey
  5. Frou Frou is an event for Lingerie, my guess is that they are sold at that event, which is running now it is in search places.
  6. When creating a group it should not belong to a person that has a main account, you should FOUND the group with an alt, that way if you do decide to leave as an owner you can walk away. As everyone has said, there are roles that make it possible that a found already has more options, it is up to the people working the roles to understand them. Having your own alts as owners are definitely good ideas. The main issue most have is that owner seems to imply some kind of status that a partner does not have, which is garbage. Change the role names, have an alt that does nothing as the founder and then the owners can all be Maximum Officer roles and then there can be secondary officers etc. Owner roles are actually safe from ACCIDENTALLY leaving, how do you leave something as an owner when there is a big ARE YOU SURE Message that pops up if you try ? or do you have that turned off somewhere because that would be the issue not something having more rights. None of my important groups have me as Founder, but I sure as hell can bring down the hammer on anyone and in any way as me. While others have powers, they do not have the ones that could remove control from me unless necessary. There is no status in being the 'owner' role, 100L and search can give anyone that same imagined status. As for the alts accusations, if I was new here and typing something that I wanted to be seen and feeling that others having an opinion on the subject, because they are like minded, in the same group, crew whatever, chances are I would say to those people I was posting, where I was posting and link to it, much like most that make Jiras do, and then within seconds my friends, crew, group would chime in, that is easily what could have occurred here.
  7. There is some kind of bug at the moment, if you are going to the cart and it says their name etc, you need to do a support ticket. I would try visiting stores and gifting using vendors at this time, most stores have a system in place that will gift and if they don't or if you are unsure IM the owner or manager to get help on it.
  8. Any kind of Hospitality Business in Second Life is usually done as a passion project by the owner, it has to be understood that going in you may never make money, or you could absolutely make enough and get by very well due to doing it right by your customers/visitors. However regardless of what happens in that month, you will still be the one to foot the bill, however that bill is paid it will be on you. So because it will be a work of passion, you need it to be something that you want to do, engage in yourself and enjoy regardless of the income, because otherwise the stress can be too much. You also have to have options if no one turns up, whether that be staff or customers, because SL happens, RL happens and the like, if your show cannot go on, you need to make sure something else does if you have a room full of people expecting something, especially if they pay for it. You need to really be invested emotionally and financially, because there are so many other things going on, you have to engage fully and if you can't you need to work out if that is really for you. Having a business, any business in SL is hard work, it is not only hard work in the moment, but well into the future, you have to make sure your RL can handle that kind of dedication too. In your ideas you also have to consider timezones a big thing, who is your customer base, what is the best time to put on shows, have less or more staff and so on. Good luck in whatever you do end up doing
  9. I would make sure it was a private estate, not for using Second Life as such, but using the anon aspect of it. Each student would have an account and the only other person to know what student was which account would be the teacher. All students would look identical no gender no newbie, just identical. Then they would introduce themselves without any reference to identity, they would then be paired up with a different pair each day and everything would be done in open chat, IMs would be locked. They would be sectioned off 10m so chat did not overlap, and they would have to get to know each other, basic questions might be provided, but everything would be just about learning more about the person. Then after a few days, they would not be paired up, but have the option to choose who they wished to group together with and so on, introducing projects they have to do together and how the dynamic would work, who would be the leader of the group, and if that is a big difference in how that may have played out if everyone knew who everyone was. It would be a chance to see if the lesser popular may be more popular, the stereotypes that may not go near each other usually would find they have a lot in common and so on, then at the end reveal who is who and see if it would actually change the classroom dynamic afterwards, because they actually got to know each other. I understand it could be completely compromised day one with students telling each other who they are outside of the classroom, but it would be interesting if they didn't.
  10. I do unread content and then mark as read, but that still shows old posts that are revived like yesterdays cluster, so just thought if you could just settings close the door on them, that could be an option.
  11. I keep finding that I am answering older threads, because someone has been playing in the forums, or just because they find the topic interesting. As a firm believer in everything old is new to someone, I don't really have an issue with it, but if you are here often and ongoing it could mess with your enjoyment. Would it be possible for LL to consider adding to settings section (which is very detailed as it is) the option to only see topics of certain age ranges ? much like we can with our inventories now, searching things older than or by how many days etc. If we were able to select show nothing that is 1week, 1 month, 3 months, 6 months a year, two years and so on, but most likely bigger chunks of time, would that help those that find old threads cumbersome not see them at all. It would need to be by date created obviously not last posted on. I just did a search on Necro posting as it came up a few times and was new to me as an expression, and it seems that people do prefer old posts die, but when people make new posts on a topic that has already been discussed they are asked why...so that seems to cancel out the other, if they just joined the forum and did not find what they needed in older posts...it gets confusing as to the right way to do things.
  12. I did not realise the date, by the time I joined in many were today's date hours etc
  13. Was this in a store or on marketplace ? if on marketplace did you make sure to check the shopping cart that the name of the giftee was clearly there ? if you gift and then choose buy now it will always go to you not the gifter, it is a strange SL'ism . Also check your purchasing page history on marketplace to see if it shows as being gifted but still came to you, that should help with customer service contact the creator immediately and if the purchases were four times the same thing to the same person, it will show intent , but definitely contact LL by Ticket and see if they can fix that for you.
  14. When you search your room for shoes that can be only found in your inventory and have a DOH moment, then get really sad because they would have looked great with what you are wearing.
  15. My gestures folder has been empty since 2007. I think everyone should have the chance to unpack that 3547845464585 big box of Gestures freebie, play at least a dozen five times and then delete them all, they are the bling shoes and the naughty school girls of noise, everyone should have experienced it. I won't lie though, I do have a Wonder Woman music and spin to hands on hips gesture somewhere in my inventory that I play /ww occasionally to call upon, but that is usually when I am in the studio and joking with friends.
  16. I like using marketplace as a bigger search engine, then shopping in world so I can discover new stores etc. If I am doing something studio wise and need something to just add to, and plan to buy from a store I am already familiar with, I might just grab it on Marketplace as it saves me having to do anything more distracting. I do understand that now with so many having MP only stores, we are missing items, experiences etc. I propose they add a new feature to Marketplace - NEW Stores, not just new items or popular etc, but if someone creates a brand new storefront and adds to it, that they get some kind of 48 hours sitting in the newness section, which would also help catch those selling copybotted items and fraud, as they would be right there for the flagging and flagging fast
  17. Definitely a much tighter modding community so those that created tended to use also, so they understood the need for modding etc, and yes, I have a few that got permission to redo, they either did a good job or a bad job but it was on them not the creator to deal with then there are some that just included the bakes and textures when mesh came around because otherwise no chance to create your own textures.
  18. The voice part makes sense, as people would have more of an expectation of what someone would/should sound like...I used to have a lot of cubbie friends, when voice came about they were all very sad about it, because for some reason people pushed them to talk to prove something or other, but the voice did not match up to the adorable, and some found that unsettling. Mod everything has been the way for all things, not only mesh, Furries are the original modders as far as SL is concerned, you had to adapt everything available to fit, hair demos would be inside your heads, and then purchased modified to fit, clothing altered to work around what was usually a prim then sculpt body, so it makes sense. Whether this helped you have less crime, no idea, but Furries did not tend to be copybotters because it would be a lot more evident, making the most of some texture stuff was more obvious though, suddenly something that came in brown or black was seen in pink and purple. Skin communities ( I call us skins not humans ) were more prone to abuse editing way back when, and tinting was the main argh for creators. I think that if LL had made the editing tools select as needed it would have been very different, it should have been possible to edit selected, resize and shrink etc but not retexture and tint or vice versa. People did not want to spend hours on shading and wrinkles and highlights and then have someone tint it hot pink buying it only in white to do so in every colour, it was ugly and this was days of facelights and no windlight. Often it really was not about it being edited to fit and such it was about it not turning ugly and then being seen by others ugly and potential customers thinking it was ugly. The no mod thing went on and on, and people thought that by no mod you could not copy, when we had prims making everything, making it mod meant people could just sit there and replicate prim by prim, and they did, a well known (closed now) store opened its doors with hair and clothing that was prim by prim copies of other big name stores. No Mod meant no stealing, when copybotting was new people did not understand, they thought no mod meant no stealing....SCULPTS with the textures being visible until someone worked out the alpha trick, again could be copied. It was all very stressful to know what was in the creators better interest. The other thing with mod perms, is that people really didn't know how to edit back in the day like creators did, so you would have someone try to do something, it would break and they would call on the creator, no redeliveries, the not understanding copy first or unpack again and start over, just full blown panic, and then anger because customer service was not a full time thing for many stores, they would come in release something and could vanish for months, come back release and go, no mod meant there was no reason they could get IMs on anything other than perhaps something not delivering, and you may have to wait weeks to get a reply. Newer creators don't actually know all of this, they just do what everyone else is doing, so it just became a thing.
  19. When you are scrolling through a streaming service and you read Elektra as Elikatira and start thinking about hair.
  20. Every time this comes up I start humming this, so I thought I should share, it is only fair
  21. You were typing same time as me so I came back to answer... my inventory is more than 14 times that, the longest impact is logging in, my partner logs in in seconds, I take a full 3.5 minutes at least. However once I am in my inventory is fully loaded, where as my friend who has about 20 times more can stand there for hours waiting for hers to load. My frame rate is often over 100fps, if I go to a laggy event I just turn everyone off, but I also run around Hair Fair with everyone showing and no issues. Whimsy likes to imagine that LL gave her and I our own servers each lol
  22. When bento was going live and was in beta in SL viewer only I could not log in, and I got so frustrated time wise in trying to minimise folders into subfolders and the like that I went a bit crazy as I was running out of testing time, and I purged by Last Call and my Dazzle (which is Last Calls earlier closing down and leaving SL store) As soon as Baked on Mesh got announced I screamed, as I had saved it all for eons, the Dazzle stuff was from Christmas time 2006, so now all of those pieces would be wearable and GONE GONE GONE, so annoyed lol. I did recently play with Baked on Mesh beta, and I did a lot of system layer testing and honestly a lot of the clothing holds up still now, all those gowns especially because they were system and flexi already and I do miss a good swish now and then. I cannot wait until BoM goes live and people start asking ' What the hell are glitch pants ?"
