  1. And for those of us that don't SPEND our stipend and let the money stay in "alt accounts" there is no need to pay $72 each year, the stipend money becomes the next year's payment (with about $10 or so US a YEAR) to go with it. I understand that not everyone has $72 to pay up front, but with some effort they could probably SAVE $6 a month and then would have that money for the next year. Old timers actually MAKE money on their premium accounts (there was a small window of time long ago when this was true). We are in effect (and have been for a decade or more) loaning LL CAPITAL funds which they pay back to us -- most of it anyway. It's really a great deal assuming you want land or a home. The other perks may be perks for some folks, but don't matter at all to me.
  2. Just to be clear what the devs have told me (including some comments from Patch) our "lag" isn't only the things that WE have and can control, it is also our neighbors things and even those in adjoining sims (Patch who I assume knows things :D). That was ONE reason that my choice criteria included a sim with fewer plots (mine has nine). Most of my things (not all) are "reasonable". I do have some furniture that has more textures than "I" would use and I guess I could take the scripts out since I have copies and don't intent to change the colors. BUT there are all those things surrounding us. I blacklisted a lot of things in one neighbor's yard which seemed to help. If I can stay above 15fps (with my ongoing ODD computer issues) I will call that good. In the recent past that would have translated to 30fps for me but no longer. Most of the OMG heavy mesh and texture items that I had got tossed at the beginning of the year (or before)and many of the things in my house are mine and I know what is in them so that is helpful too. Those 1024 normal and specular maps can be a killer and I guess we could ALSO get rid of those (not sure how things would look then as there are different methods but worth a try). Again though -- we can only do what we can do. So not really any reason to get depressed about it. EDIT: Re the Bellisseria Community group it isn't open enrollment but the charter says "For an invite, please contact Talisien Llewellyn for an invite".
  3. Good to know. I tried that and got varying result. My Linden Home area was definitely not happy ^^ but my SHOP seems to be very good. I am assuming that a tiny window with green bars is a GOOD thing though --- really have no clue. So is this GOOD? It also took very little time to figure this out while the LH area (looking toward other houses, not the ocean) never calmed down (well I didn't wait forever. This one I am assuming is not as good (yellow instead of green). Is there someplace that explains all this? Thanks!!!
  4. I have a similar system (older) but with a GTX 980/PCIe/SSE2) so "not as good" Until a couple of months ago SL ran perfectly with my system, multiple avatars, baking in Blender et al. Something very bad happened around that time for SOME of us (others are perfectly fine). I tried everything anyone could think of and I would "think" I had it fixed and then it wouldn't be). My best guess is that there was a change in the video card driver that came in (for me) with a Windows Update. The timing is perfect. Recently a new driver came out and I was hoping that would fix things, but NO. Still blurry. Textures don't appear to be staying in cache etc. It is NOT a viewer problem, that much I know and it is NOT "poorly optimized mesh" as I have the same issues in ares with ONLY well-optimized mesh :D. So IF you are having the same issue as some of us, it isn't your computer other than there is a incompatibility thing going on. I have a friend on a much older and slower computer who is using my OLD video card (four years old maybe) and he can be in the exact same place with double the fps and no texture grayness. If you find an answer, please POKE ME. Going to look up that thread and will edit.
  5. LH Preview Sim. http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Linden Homes Preview/56/207/25
  6. Older post with photos may or may not be the sim but only thing that Google can find:
  7. Not arguing that. My point was that TILING textures can be repeated to look sharper, where baked textures cannot.
  8. It seems pretty obvious that the OP (if actually serious) doesn't understand that WE DON'T AGREE. Oh well. I am am guessing that there are a fair amount of "multiple degree" folks that "retired early because they could" responding to the OP. But of course that doesn't count :D. Let's just move on to the NEXT similar thread. You know you want to. LOL.
  9. Well at least they TRIED. I am talking about completely empty houses (others have commented on this too) all over the continent. A few, granted may have a good reason for not decorating right away but certainly not ALL of them (and there really are a lot when you traverse Bellisseria by bike or teleport to each sim (I was looking for a certain "fence" that I saw and never found). I hope you are right.
  10. Just to be clear while the new homes are 1024, ALL members have free tier for 1024. Not everyone will understand the difference there but it is important. The folks in the OLD Linden homes have the ability to own another 512 lot WITH those "decent extra bagful" of LI already. The skybox option may be good for some but a few tours of the 2000 to 4000 meters skies told me that not all that many people care. I certainly don't. If I wanted a skybox, I could put it ANYWHERE with the SAME land impact allowance.
  11. It should probably also be noted (again) that there are a TON of empty homes that were claimed and have not been used (no prims on the land at all so not a skybox scenario). So it would be just as valid to "complain" about those folks that got theirs and didn't USE them. I thought people would move in over the weekend maybe -- nope. Next weekend? No there too. My only current guess is that they are rerolling for a houseboat (next week hopefully) and never wanted a house at all. I would have THOUGHT they would have done something in two and a half weeks. These empty houses include some stunningly GOOD plots (by my criteria anyway) so I hope they do get used in the future.
  12. It totally depends on HOW the 1024 texture is used. If it is ONE texture for a fairly complex piece of furniture, then it is a good deal. If it is a 1024 texture for a match stick head (that's a joke that a few folks will get :D) then it is definitely not. It depends on how that 1024 texture is used. If it is a BUNCH of 1024 textures for one piece of furniture then likely not (and there is the most often seen problem) and if it is FOUR 1024 textures for a cropped tank top (oh my!) then definitely not a good thing. Also if people are using 1024 normal and specular maps -- that adds a bunch of download (and one reason why I stay away from normal and specular maps in SL). A 1024 texture is the equivalent of four 512 textures by the way. Info above is talking about baked textures for mesh, not TILING textures which are still used but not as often these days. And of course are MY opinion. Others obviously have other opinions on the subject, hence some of our issues LOL. EDIT: Note also again that I said that the 1048 will BECOME a 1024 so there IS no 2048 texture option in SL. It was found by some really good tester (sorry forgot who) that the uploader currently does a better job than resizing before uploading ---- for SOME graphics software (including mine).
  13. I thought Patch pretty much confirmed that long ago. The "pickle replacing the pickle". That is certainly where "I" have been looking for it to appear.
  14. Flora seemingly not completed. No land mass moved over yet. Final testing most likely not done since land mass not moved. Monday typically not a Linden Lab "big deals unveiled" day. My money is on Tuesday but would be happy to be wrong.
  15. Wondering if there is any particular reason you believe that monthly will be the norm. We do know (Abnor Mole) that work has continued on some new styles of homes, but since we have seen no new areas under development on SSP == and we know that layouts, flora and testing take a long while, I am not seeing monthly as a very good guess . The more likely idea was another sneak peak at the June birthday bash with another wave of homes released soon after.
  16. Working on new and updating older "clutter". While I don't like much clutter in our corporeal world, I think it enhances or virtual one greatly. I also got some new ocean sounds last night. They are contained to MY parcel but I love what the add to the immersion. Meanwhile bedroom still in progress. And yes, there is some arty DOF going on here LOL. {what next} RIORO, Trompe Loeil and "my stuff"
  17. A slightly more serious answer to the OP cause --- well cause. SOMEONE (or many people) have to MAKE all the lovely things that you enjoy. It takes hours or days to make mesh items, then it takes time to set things out and put them together. Terraforming, adding plants, adding house rezzers, TESTING house rezzers and the list goes on. Complaining isn't going to get you anywhere except of course for some not terribly friendly laughter. So best to learn how things work and be patient. Insert sigh here. We need a SIGH face!!!!
  18. While I agree with Rolig in theory (LOL) Linden Lab linked my alts LONG ago and they all of a sudden had "payment info used" when they had never added payment info. So they definitely know who belongs to who. That being said, mistakes can be made. I have some real life friends who lived together. Had separate computers (several as they are in the biz) but the same dedicated IP. To LL it LOOKS like they are the same person (maybe) even with different credit cards. So mistakes can be made. Since many people on these forums have "armies of alts" in order to take advantage of the group tier thing and they have been good for YEARS, I don't think you have to worry. There WAS a time period when alts needed separate credit card info in order to make a Marketplace account, but that seems to have gone away. Someone else will have more recent info on that part of the equation. And yes, I have several accounts now that use the same Paypal account (I just went premium for the first time for the new Linden Homes :D). No issues. Play nice and be a good community member and you will likely be fine.
  19. Apparently so. I relogged and tried various regions. There are MANY LESS green dots than normal so the ones you see in the areas that you can't get to may be "official" folks with special powers :D. Just a hunch. I couldn't even get CLOSE to my place. Trying to finish up a project. I even ended up in the mass overflow area. I haven't been THERE for years. EDIT: I just noted that the FRIENDS list is empty when there are friends online so obviously something is amiss.
  20. You would need someone with permission (hence a Mole) to do that. You could put in a support ticket asking, but since a good many folks would rather see the Moles working on MORE and DIFFERENT builds I suspect that your request would be far down on the list if considered at all. Since the rules for "off parcel" (not off sim) say that your items "might" be returned, you could possibly cover over the existing fence with another fence -- like one in the LH pack from the mailbox. So for example you could cover over a picket fence with a hedge. You would need a few building skills to accomplish this. You could then wait and see if that is acceptable. Your fence COULD be returned --again, according to the covenant. BUT ALL THAT BEING SAID, the person who designed the sim pretty obviously had a plan and the fence was part of that. SO --- better I think to live with it or to maybe move when more houses come on the market. Some folks have put fences inside of fences but personally I think that looks pretty awful. You CAN DERENDER AND BLACKLIST your fence so you don't see it at all OR put some bushes inside to soften the look perhaps.
  21. AGREED that there was no advanced info to the forum folks, but watching carefully was a big advantage. Actually we "knew" it was most any time because A. LL had moved the SSP continent over awhile back and B. After a long time of quiet over at Bellisseria there was a day when many of the moles were all over the continent (separately) and moving around -- hence the general consensus was that they were testing things (like house rezzing - looking for anything amiss etc.). So MANY of us who had been watching for nine months were also watching the forum feed for news (I was checking hourly). IF (and I have no reason to believe this) a few non-Lindens knew the exact time of the launch, it really wouldn't have done then much good as they obviously couldn't have gone over ahead of everyone and claimed a house - LOL. Well, duh! Some folks here are EXCELLENT sleuths and would have noted that. So they might have had a five minute "lead" which really didn't matter. Some folks have been quite successful getting houses (and even houseboats) long after they were "gone", so there are still possibilities for folks that want to work at it a bit. It is likely that the folks who grabbed the rerolls are the same folks who watched the lucky chairs (now boards) and try to get into busy events the first day. They put forth the effort and reap the rewards. Happily, doing the work --- sometimes works.
