  1. Or that's just one point of view, which while you are entitled to hold it, but isn't necessarily fact. Bellisseria has the advantage that land flippers cannot affect availability and yet while there is high ownership overall, just like with mainland there are relatively low numbers of people using it at any one time. If people want special "privacy" features, they would be going to the estates - not Bellisseria which has the most lax privacy overall.
  2. Wow, just wow. Talk about a narrow viewpoint.
  3. Hi All, I wanted a Linux version of the excellent GLTF Packer by @Extrude Ragu to create materials for PBR as I don't run Windows. So I created one and it's called MakeGLTF. It is based on the source code published for GLTF Packer in the sense that I learned how GLTF Packer works and made the UI look and feel similar but MakeGLTF has been written entirely from scratch with a completely different toolkit (Avalonia) using that knowledge. It uses the same MIT License as GLTF Packer and comes with all sources for others to build on. It is hosted on GitHub with full instructions and should be accessible to anyone. MakeGLTF (GitHub) I hope it is useful to people and my thanks go to @Extrude Ragu for their generosity in making GLTF Packer available to learn from in the first place.
  4. The slumped anim can be overridden obviously as most of us are doing that knowingly or not. When an avatar is marked as away they do get the "Away" tag above their head. If a person isn't marking themselves as away or sets AFK idle time to "Never" then SL doesn't think that they are AFK.
  5. Your feelings are certainly valid and you should do what you feel is right for you but not everyone shares this point of view. At every hangout place I've ever been where there are real people, some like to dance and only occasionally interact when something worth interacting with happens, others like to watch them dance. This even happens at the Welcome Hub, auto-sitting/auto-slump would ruin that.
  6. You can set 5 mins away time if you want, it's just that most people switch it to never once they've been around a while and so to me that suggests that people don't like it much. I don't think the slumped avatar stand helps much tbh. Whether you were serious or not, hate is too strong a word for "disagree".
  7. The problem with that is if, for example, you have dual monitors and the SL window isn't the one you are working on all the time. You aren't actually away from the keyboard. Periodically, you could still be responding to conversations and/or doing other things in SL. The viewer cannot know if you are really away or not and so a purely automatic solution is just a guess and isn't really any more accurate. I think it is better if the person at the keyboard decides if and when to show AFK status as they are the only person who really knows.
  8. New people don't expect seated people to be AFK anymore than they do standing ones. There is nothing inherent about being seated that would indicate that. This is exactly the kind of thing that makes me Experience averse and why I don't accept them. I think it would be rude for a host to seat someone like this tbh.
  9. To the OP: New residents often think people are AFK when they see avatars "just standing around doing nothing" but in reality they could be doing anything and absolutely not AFK. The only things they are not doing is moving around, texting in local chat and responding to "them". A lot of the "issue" is one of perception. To be fair, I think that if residents who've been around for a while hang around in new resident areas then I think they should make an effort to at least acknowledge a new person. Many don't.
  10. Yup, it's definitely a trade off but that's the reality.
  11. On top of that laptop variants of GPUs don't have the same speeds as desktop variants to start with. Once you start to add the extra laptop heat, that GPU is going to throttle down to some degree as will the CPU. Even more so as the laptop ages. On a desktop PC you are getting a better variant of GPU with the same name and if built right the cooling can handle the GPU being used without throttling. Dust and fluff can also be air dusted out of a desktop more easily to keep everything cooler.
  12. Ping rate to servers doesn't make as much difference as people tend to think for SL. In New Zealand we get high latency ping rates to US which is unavoidable and while it does affect fast action online games it has negligible effect on the SL experience overall. My SL experience has never suffered due to high latency pings. High-end hardware and a fast internet connection are what makes SL work well.
  13. I don't intend to but that also extends to installation of any viewer that should it include it. Those are different groups of people, not the same group of people being inconsistent. For example: If LL never promotes the adult side of SL, it wouldn't bother me one bit. That has always been my stance. That doesn't mean I would mind at all if they do a bit of "Spicy" promotion but supporting sex toys would be long way from that in my mind. I'm aware of that and the very low likelihood considering LL doesn't even have RLV in the their viewer. However, there was a post further back expressing that it should be integrated into all viewers including LL's and so that part of my post was in response to that really in a hypothetical sense.
  14. I wouldn't be using any viewer that had support for RL sex toys. If support for them were in every viewer then that would most likely be the end of my SL activities. I'm not interested in installing sex-enabled apps. If they were third-party plugins that people added themselves, no problem.
  15. Even with that, items that animate frequently (not animesh) wouldn't be possible anymore or they would probably cause too many updates for regeneration. BoM is a much simpler proposition than this.
  16. Rigged mesh often comes with scripts to change the texture of faces, set glow, lighting for objects in the linkset. Clothing has scripts that control alphas, textures, etc. Mesh bodies/head have scripts that control all kinds of things from setting eye lashes , HD layers, materials, etc. Rigged mesh hair has colour change scripts. None of this will work if it is smooshed together so that there is one object with a simplified set of faces. The idea only works when you only wear non-scripted objects for all rigged mesh and looking at what I wear, the majority of them have scripts in them either that or the whole thing has to be regenerated once you make any scripted change.
  17. That means saying goodbye to wearing animesh pets or any item that changes it's appearance via a script including a mesh body/head.
  18. I generally don't care what layout the store uses either but what does bug me is when you are trying to cam around and there seems to be loads of invisible objects all around the store that capture and limit your ability to get to the part of the store you want to look at more closely.
  19. Your subconscious probably wanted to block it from your waking mind as a self-defense mechanism
  20. The good part of me thinks of the terrible fallout and invasion of privacy if all were to be revealed but the dark, terrible part of me says:
  21. Just for you, I went searching and found it so you don't have to miss out:
  22. We've done alts in the forums to death not that long ago, is it really time for that again already?
