Why can't I look at Linden homes before abandoning the place  I am in? What if I don't find anything available? Then am I without a place? Any help would be appreciated.

Sassy

Create an alt and have them check the Linden Homes page.  You can see availability without upgrading to Premium.

Your alt logs in to secondlife.com.

In her dashboard: Land manager -> Linden home -> Get your home now

Make sure you click on "View all houses". The top left theme is automatically selected for you, but all the grey themes has also at least 1 available. You can select one of them if you click on it.

Also, note that some themes are in short supply, and availability for them fluctuates.  Thus, don't assume that a given theme will be available to your premium account avatar just because it was available when you checked with your alt.  As always, if the theme you want is not available, keep checking.  Any theme can be had if you are patient and persistent.

Themes that tend to be infrequently available:

  • Traditional
  • Houseboat
  • Victorian
  • Stilt Home on Land
  • Stilt Home on Water
  • Stilt Home on Pier

Or, you can bookmark the following link and use it with your alt to log directly in to the Land Page: https://land.secondlife.com/en-US/lindenhomes/land-selection.php?

@Frigga Freidman, can my alt actually go visit the land where the house is I want to look at?

Anyone can wander around Bellisseria. And, if the house hasn’t been assigned to anyone, you can even TP inside it (using the map) to have a look around, but of course you won’t be able to open any doors or change the house style.

I can only do this with my alt or when I give up my current Linden home, is that correct?

Anyone can go wander any of the homes in Bellisseria that are not yet assigned.

However, when looking at the Linden Home page, there is no way of knowing which plot you might be assigned ahead of time --- whether it is your alt looking or you looking after you abandon your current Home.

Is there an LM link for the homes in Bellisseria?

If you let us know which house theme(s) in particular you’re interested in, we can give you the names of a few regions to look at. Then, if you pull up the world map and search for the region name, you can teleport to the middle of that region (which is always a ‘protected area’ without a house on it) to start exploring.

I like the Bellisseria. I need a one-level home.

You can choose a one-level home in all themes. Let us say you like modern, then you want Newbrooke.

Pick Newbrooke from the drop down list on the page where we select our Linden Home. You go there, andit is a house on the land. But you can select different houses. You click on the mailbox, and it gives you a list of options. Just go through the list. You also get the Linden Security box from here, and a content creation pack.

This blogger has a lot about Bellisseria here: https://modemworld.me/tag/linden-homes/

You may be unaware that *all* house styles within a particular theme are available to you within the house controller. So, any Trad would give you the option for an Adams, Alderley or their open-plan versions; any Stilt would give you the option for a Havana or Tortuga; any Victorian would give you the option for a Doyle, etc. I suggest you look through the various themes, decide which you like the look of based on the general style of house and landscaping, then claim a house via the Land Page and run through the options for that theme. (Don't bother with the Log Homes as there are no single-storey designs.)

I have been in SL for over 15 years and I only just realized that the middle pt of a region at 128,128 is always a protected area, LOL.

While this is true in Belli, and other areas where parcel size does not change, ie. Nautilus City, if you try this on mainland you could very easily end up in someone's home. So region center 128,128 is not always protected land.

In the earlier days of Belli, when we watched with bated breath for individual regions to release, one way I was able to tell that LL was about to release a region was by watching the map at common release times of day.  If you just type a region name into the world map and hit the teleport button, you go to 128, 128.  Whitney and Derrick Linden ALWAYS did that.  If a green dot appeared in the middle of a region I was watching, they were releasing it.

I remember when they released Fantasseria.  We were all camped out in Hanshin, expecting a single-region link to Barney's Fief.  Green dots came and went around there!  But then I noticed a single green dot appear in the center of Rigamarole, that quickly moved to the south edge of the region.  I sent Flycan to look, and it was Abnor creating a storm.

I am having a hard time finding how to look inworld at the available homes. Any help would be so very appreciated.

If you want to just look at each of the Belli themes, below is a SLURL to a region of each Bellisseria theme.  I chose these randomly.  When you go to each, just wander around and you will eventually see an example of each model of home available for that theme.   Here is LL's description of each: https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Linden_Lab_Official:New_Linden_Homes_2019

There is no way to easily see which exact homes are available to be claimed at the moment.  If you are a Premium member (as opposed to Premium Plus), you must use the Land Page, as described above, which will randomly give you a parcel of whatever theme you choose.  Once you go to the parcel, you can use the parcel controller to choose which of the models of homes for that theme you want to use (there will be at least 4 models of homes for each parcel).

If you want to see which themes are currently available to be claimed, you can log ANY avatar into secondlife.com, and use the link Frigga gave above to go to the land page and see what themes are available.  (If a theme is listed on the land page, there are parcels of that theme currently available.  If a theme is not listed, no parcels of that theme are currently available).

Further, if you bring up your world map after you TP to one of the places below, you'll see a LOT more regions of that theme around you.  Most regions are grouped together into subcontinents of a single theme. (Houseboats are the exception: they often are used as a fringe around a subcontinent).
