I need some help with blocking...

1.  I have tried right clicking on persons name from a conversation.  And that has not worked.

2.  I have tried looking at persons profile and searched all options and gears for a BLOCK button, tab or feature and that has not worked.

3.  I have tried going to the newbie destination several times and talked to several people but we could not figure out why I'm not seeing a BLOCK button.

The only thing I have been able to figure out is to block the persons IM and text.  But, from what I understand this won't totally block him?  Is this true?

I'm not sure what viewer I'm on...  I'm using windows 7, 64 bit...  How can I tell what viewer I'm on?

Viewer info will be in the upper left hand corner of the viewer.

Thanks for the links...  I'm reading what Jeremy says about blocking now.  I was told in the sl newbie destination that the process of blocking people may change according to what viewer I'm on.  I'm trying to figure this out before continuing doing anything on sl further.

Yes, this is what a block is. It stops the person sending IMs/Text. It also stops notecards and inventory offers. You will see therm turn into a grey shadow.

It only affects you. It doesn't stop them seeing you, and it doesn't stop them hearing what you say in local chat.

I did read the information on blocking...  I guess I was hoping the person would not be able to see me anymore.  Because he was following and grabbing me even though I told him to stop.  I did block his IM and text immediately.  But, it seems like he will still be able to see me?

Yes, he can still see you.

I'll let @Whirly Fizzle get into the rules for Third Party Viewers (TPV) if she is so inclined. I'm not. Sorry.

Define "grab". Does he bump you, send your avatar flying up? Does he grind against you? Or animate you against your will, like forcing you to dance or stand in embarassing positions? You can find how to deal with it here:

The "harassment" is here:

Blocking (also called Muting) does not prevent the blocked person from physical contact with you.

You can prevent someone from bumping you by simply sitting on something...even on the ground.  Well, they can still bump into you, but you won't be moved by the collision.

Blocking means that you won't see text from them in Nearby chat.  You won't receive IMs from them.  You won't see them, except as a silhouette.  You won't hear sounds from them, or see any particles they are generating.  If they try to give you anything, it will be automatically refused.  (Except they can still pay you $L...if a blocked person does that, don't reply...just go shopping.)

If you downloaded Second Life from here: https://secondlife.com/support/downloads/

you are on the official Second Life Viewer.

I think the statistics say that the majority of Second Life users is using the third party viewer Firestorm. In fact, 60 to 75% prefer Firestorm. I am one of them. I have trouble going back to the official Second Life viewer. But I have a version of it, if I have to log in and check if something is as I remember it.

The Phoenix/Firestorm page is here: https://www.firestormviewer.org/

and it has its own Jira and Wiki.

There are so many threads about "what viewer do you prefer" here and as I already said, I am a hard Firestorm user. I would not quit Second Life if I was forced to use only the official viewer. I think. But it would be close. I shorten Firestorm to FS.

I am not saying that you should try FS or another third party viewer (because there are many more). You struggle a bit with Second Life and the interface of FS is a bit different. Not so much different. It could add some confusion for you. It could also make it easier since FS is so popular, it is more likely that the person(s) that reply to your questions use FS and their answer refer to settings in FS.

In this case, it is nice that FS has a direct button called "Bumps, pushes and hits" and also a direct button for "Abuse report". I think your case is perhaps bad enough for an abuse report.

I have the camera control floater up all the time, and I can not change size of it in the official viewer. It is also semi-transparent in FS. Every time I use the official viewer, it annoys me.

FS has eliminated many clicks and had direct click buttons. Let us say you are in the club called The Dancing Panda and someone bullies you. You can find out who owns the club in a single click in FS, because the button "land" is ready for you at the top.

I can have mini-map up and click on a green dot in FS, and zoom there to look at the avatar. Useful if someone moves towards me. FS has its own setting to alert if an avatar comes in talking range of you. I stop here because it is already threads about what viewer do you prefer.

Not sure if it's just me, but when I logged in each day, my block list was empty. I would have to re-block every day.

You can right click their avatar and select block. Or if they are within distance in chat, right click their name in the chat window & block voice (which will remove the avatar, particles, & sound) or block text (removes chat) if that helps.

no it is not just you - seems to be some server problem - eventually it will com eback and the people will be blocked again... but for merchant SPAM that already is to late.

Block list limit (in FS, not sure about LL) is 1000 but can be increased in FS, at your own risk.

I did not mean “cap” as in “max”, I meant a “server functionality”. As in “caps” when the propeller-heads list all the different “server capabilities” which may be either working or borked at any time.
