SandorWren
19 hours ago, Orwar said: Nah, it still works. I think the issue is that, when uploading a texture that is natively 4:3, it's automatically stretched to either be 1:1 or 2:1 (I've had it do both, I'm not sure how it decides which to go with), if it's stretched to 1:1, then the FS viewer won't know that this is 'supposed' to be displayed in 4:3, because all it sees is a 1:1 texture. If it's a 2:1 texture, however, it'll squish it into a 4:3 display. So you can continue using a 4:3 profile pic (although I'd say 1:1 is the better option since that'll work for everyone looking at your profile), but then the safe bet would be to actually resize it manually before uploading (i.e squishing it into a 2:1 format, then uploading). Of course, doing so will make it all the more squished the other way in any other viewer where it's forced to display in 1:1. So. Just go for 1:1. The weird part is, I just checked, and it DOES work now. But 4:3 DIDN'T work for a while. Could it have to do with updates changing things?

SL textures can only be uploaded in a binary scale (8, 16, 32, 64, 128, 256, 512, 1024, and the new and shiny 2048, along either axis). Not knowing how it is decided whether a, say, 512 x 384, goes 512 x 512 or 512 x 256, and it apparently being able to pick either, it's likely your old 4:3 picture was uploaded in 1:1. Thus, the need to manually ensure that your picture upload is already in a 1:2 ratio to achieve a 4:3 profile pic in FS. When FS only supported 4:3, it didn't matter if the image was 1:1 or 2:1 or even 1:4; it would squish to fit the box, much like how you can't ever really get a perfect fit in the Picks' images since those are around 16:9 (2:1 is a near fit, but there's some squish).

Right, But why did it get suddenly squished? And then later unsquished? It's been my profile pic for a few years.
