  1. In my experience the SL viewers are way sensitive to connection issues. Even short, temporary ones. But your pingtest results seems fine. As good if not better than my own. Did you try several times with around the same result? Your connection speed however, I think might be on the low side for SL. The viewers gobble up quite a bit of data as the world around you rez and can easily take most of your 1mb connection. Have you checked the Max bandwidth setting in me->Preferences->Advanced (or is it Setup)? Before, I had a 1,5 mb line, and had to set my max bandwidth to 500 mbps or thereabouts for things to work ok. Set it too high and you're likely going to experience packet loss. I don't know if these things should result in the inability to carry on or initiate an IM conversation with people, but worth looking in to. I'm also wondering if your firewall might be a part of this. Have you tried disabling any and all firewalls on your system or in your router? If that helps you might need to check the config of the firewall(s). - Luc -
  2. Is the big bang fact or fiction? Hmmmmm.......... Good question. I'd say 'Yes. Yes, it is.' - Luc -
  3. Right back at you, Val!!! Seems those people hired the same moving company... Must be cheap. - Luc -
  4. Happy friday, everybody!!! Good luck moving, Hippie. Just watch out for those low bridges! - Luc -
  5. I agree. Steam... Meh... But the improved graphics. That's a totally different category. The sooner the better - but not too soon Make it work first. - Luc -
  6. That is AWSOME news, Dil!!! Thanks for posting the link - I had not seen it yet. - Luc -
  7. As well as what Amethyst said, there is also the issue that only bones that are actually animated will be uploaded as part of the animation. (Which bones that are registered as changed varies a bit between animation software as far as I can see.) Thus, if you make an animation where you animate the upper arm, but not the shoulder and torso, the shoulder and torso will use whatever other animation is playing that affects those bodyparts. To ensure all body parts are used as part of your animation, you have to make a slight change to all the relevant bones in your animation software before exporting/uploading. Ach... Not the best explanation, but I hope it is possible to understand. - Luc -
  8. I'm using Blender, not Maya, and have not had any issues with textures/uv maps since upgrading to Mountain Lion. Have you heard/read of any other texture/uv issues with Maya on Mountain Lion in or outside of SL? To me, this sounds as if the issue may be in the collada file you try to upload. Perhaps there is an issue with the exporter(s) on ML. The uploader seems to work the same - at least to me - as it did before on Snow Leopard. Have you tried to upload an old collada file, that you know work, after you upgraded? Did it work as it should after importing? You could also, to see if the collada file is the problem, compare a working file with a 'broken' file for the same model and see if there are differences. You can find file comparison programs online if you want. Sorry I can't be of more help. - Luc -
  9. lol. No, I'm also wrong. If you only have three tries to match the alternatives exactly, you quickly run out of tries.... The best thing to do, I guess, is to not forget the password in the first place. - Luc -
  10. No, you can friend up to three Residents and you'll be fine. - Luc -
  11. Thank you Lia! I'm never far away. /me pulls up a log and sits down. - Luc -
  12. GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD Morning, Hippie and all!!! Weekends is just around the corner. Have fun everybody!!!!!!! - Luc -
  13. To uninstall the viewer completely, you have to manually remove some files from your system as well as uninstalling the viewer itself. Follow the instructiions here: http://community.secondlife.com/t5/Technical/SL-stops-at-intializing-VFS-removing-all-appdata-and-re/qaq-p/1388725/comment-id/19734 I'm not sure it will help on your issue, but to completely uninstall the viewer, this is what you have to do. If it does not help, please provide some more details as Nyll asks. - Luc -
  14. As far as I know there is no solution to your problem, except leave the group yourself and get everybody else to leave so that there are only one person left in the group. The group will then automatically be deleted after a few days. Then you can set up another group, but with a different name and with different owners ETA: What Val said... - Luc -
  15. As far as I can tell, only parcel owners/administrators can disable/enable pathfinding. Parcelowners can ajust or optimise some things, but unfortunately, I have no idea of what these settings are or how to update them. I also don't know if disabling PF will affect your bandwidth use. There are numerous jiras and posts elswhere about PF. Perhaps you can find some tips/answers in these threads? - Luc -
  16. As Val says, if you want to use several textures, you are going to have to rez several prims and add one texture to each since each face on a prim can only hold one texture. You can, however, create the texture in Photoshop, the Gimp or some other software by layering several (using transparency or blend modes) before exporting in an appropriate format as one texture, which you can add to the prim. - Luc -
  17. If you also bring this with you on a lead, you shouldn't have anything to worry about: Hiya everybody! Happy Tuesday, and Happy Belated Rezday, Hippie! - Luc -
  18. I've been on Mountain Lion since day one. My experience is that the SL viewer works the same it did on Snow Leopard. I haven't had any more or fewer crashes, or any other issues. AFAIK, Mountain Lion feels more stable and 'solid' generally than SnL did, but as far as viewers (LL viewer in my case) are concerned, it is pretty much the same. - Luc -

I really appreciate you all who come in here and take the time to help us no matter how noobish or stubborn we can be lol. You, Drongle, Gaia, Ashasekayi, do an awesome job thanks If you don't mind, Dil, I'll join you in this. Absolutely awsome! I learn, improve my skills and get better at creating mesh every time because of you guys! - Luc -
  20. If you *did* install the viewer like Val asks - how far do you get in the process? Any error messages or anything that may help us provide an answer? - Luc -
  21. You seem determined that memory is not the issue, but as Nyll says, not that many people have had this problem. One way to check to be sure if memory is the problem is to remove the memory modules one by one and try to log in in between. Unless you already tried that. - Luc -

    Uploader

I have, although it is a while since, had issues with crashing if I did not remove the *.slm files the uploader leaves behind on a successful upload. Have you tried deleteing these before uploading the model again? (I'm nor sure this is a problem anymore, so it might not help.) - Luc -
