  1. Congrats, Hippie! Don't break anything when you empty the boxes. Good Morning, everyone! - Luc -
  2. /me gives Echo a nudge... What's not practical about changing the settings to see if it may help??? You could try, if you can stay logged in long enough, to remove all attached items you are wearing to see if it helps. It may be that one of the items somehow is causing the viewer to crash. I don't know how it would happen, but I've seen it suggested elsewhere that it might happen. Also, the viewer creates a folder somewhere in an /AppData folder (on windows and I don't know the excact path) where a bunch of avatar specific files are stored. You could try to locate this folder and (re)move it. A new one will be created on the next startup. There may be some file(s) in this folder that is causing issues. Hope this helps. - Luc -
  3. Aveline Stein wrote: Sure, mesh may have a bug here and there and perhaps not the most polished thing ever yet, but what the 'I wont mesh this, I wont mesh that' crowd seems to fail to understand, and I am not talking about rigged clothing here, is that they are essentially p**ing into their own tub. SL content is enormously heavy, and well made mesh is a way out of that. The sooner the grid rids itself from the millions of sculptie lagbombs, the better everyones expierence will be. I agree. The difference *should* become even more apparent when normal- and specular maps come in. - Luc -
  4. Could you tell us specifically what it is that blinks rapidly and shuts off, please? Also, it's probably a good idea to give a bit more information on the computer you use (if you know) - what make it is, operating system, what processor it has, what graphics card it has and so on. Add information by selecting edit from the options menu in the top right corner of your post. - Luc -
  5. Does this happen when you use scripted teleporters or does it happen also when using landmarks? If the first is the case, have you tried resetting the scripts in the teleporters? (Rightclick->edit on the object, select Build->Scripting(?)->Reset) Add information by selecting edit from the Options menu in the top rigt corner of your post. - Luc -
  6. Sinking in what way? Up to your ancles? Does this happen enywhere or in one specific location? Perhaps you can add a picture to your post to show us what's happening? Add info by selecting to edit from the Options menu in the top right corner of your post. - Luc -
  7. Medhue's explanation is so much better than mine was. Just an FYI... Daz Studio (which can be downloaded for free from http://www.daz3d.com/) seems to export SL compatible animations where all the bones you choose to export are overridden by default, whether you actually made changes to them or not. Perhaps worth a try? - Luc -
  8. Sim ping times are good. The bandwidth number - is that the steady bandwidth use you see in the performance panel after the initial load when you enter a region? (If that makes sense...) What is your max bandwidth setting in me->preferences->Setup (or Advanced. I forget which) btw? I also don't think you said, but do you have these performance issues everywhere in SL or is it only in one/some regions? Oh, one thing, since Perrie mentioned it... VBO. Have you tried disbling it in me->Preferences->Graphics->Hardware? (or enabling it) I'm quickly running out of things to check... - Luc -
  9. lol. I had the excact oposite experience. I had to keep it off until a few weeks ago. It's amazing how different and inconsisten these issues work. /me shakes head... Weirdness indeed. - Luc -
  10. I don't know if this is still an issue, but there's a couple of things I can suggest. You guys may have tried it already... I am also on a Mac. Latest OS and the latest LL viewer as well as the Exodus viewer. I have not had any login issues as described here, so I don't think the OS or the Mac itself is a problem. First, the viewers keeps a bunch of files in ~/Library/application support/. Try moving the folders these are in (delete the folders or move to the desktop if you want to keep the files). Then see if you can log in. I also strongly advice using a program like Onyx regularly to perform maintenance on the Mac. At least what is under the 'Automation' tab in the program should be run at regular intervals. (I try to remember to do this about once a month). Hope this helps (somebody ). - Luc -
  11. That's clearly not it, then. Better numbers than I get. What about the sim ping times in the viewer? That's the other thing I mentioned before - in the performance panel of the viewer. I was thinking that you could try to toggle the http textures setting in the Advanced menu of the viewer. It may not help since it's worked much better lately, but it used to give me problems with textures rezzing slowly or not at all. - Luc -
  12. I don't know a whole lot about your graphics card, but I don't think you should have excessive fps or texture rezzing issues. Which leads me to think about connection issues. How are your sim ping times? (check in the performance panel (ctrl+shift+1)) The quality of your internet connection? Use www.pingtest.net to check. Do you have the same issues wherever you go in world? And lastly, have you tried to reset your modem/router? I hope someone else comes along with more advice if none of this gives a clue to what is wrong... - Luc -
  13. As well as what Echo says, you should - if you didn't already - increase the MeshMaxConcurrentRequests debug setting (in the advanced menu which you enable from me->Preferences->Advanced) to around 100. I'm not sure it will make mesh items rez quicker, but it will make it possible to see more mesh items at once. The default 32 is way to low... - Luc -
  14. I seem to remember a feature somewhat similar to that being planned around the time viewer 2 was introdused, where it seemed you would be able to group, or categorize, the list - create folders and move people in and out of folders to better organize the friendslist. Now if you could set permissions/rights on separately on each folder and the people you moved into a folder inherited those settings (with individual override possibilities), I think that would have helped a lot. I never understood why the feature never came to anything. Not that it would help the OP regarding the following thing, though... - Luc -
  15. What kind of lag do you experience? Rubberbanding, fps lag, texture rezzing issues? Add information by selecting edit from the option menu in the top right corner of your post. [Edit] Thought the post was in answers. Thats why I said about editing the post. No need in the forums. Post replies as usual... - Luc -
  16. Unfortunately, griefing happens in pretty much any sandbox. Less in the ones with people overlooking what is going on - like the NCI ones mentioned above. If you are premium you have access to premium sandboxes. These might be a bit better than others. Some sandboxes have dedicated unpacking areas you can use. Alethia Island comes to mind. AR and mute/block are also your friends in these situations. - Luc -
  17. It is unfortunate that someone can take the items, for sure, even if we grant them the rights to move and edit things. The items do, however, inherit the rights you have set on them while they were rezzed, so if you made them no-transfer, you can be sure they will not end up on the market for sale. Do you actually know the objects have been taken by someone? Did they actually dissapear from in world, or do you suspect someone helped themselves to copies of the items and the items are still there? As Val says, there are no logs of these things. The best thing you can do is to revoke all your friends editing rights, and be very careful with granting them to anybody. Only give editing rights to someone you absolutely trust. - Luc -
  18. Someone else are having the same issue on a mac. You could try the advice given in that thread to see if anything helps. This is the thread: http://community.secondlife.com/t5/Technical/Second-Life-won-t-let-me-login-here-s-my-information/qaq-p/1639899 - Luc -
  19. The last thing I can suggest is to at least move the AppData folder somewhere else - like the desktop - to see if this helps at all. A new folder will be recreated in the original location with all the necessary files. Otherwise I'm out of ideas... I hope you get the issue sorted out soon, though. - Luc -
  20. As Echo says, pingtest should tell you what quality your internet connection has. If you don't know, and are wondering, what speed your connection has, try http://www.speedtest.net/ Do you have any issues with staying logged in if you use a cable to connect your Mac to your router? (I assume you are on a wireless net atm). Also, is there a chance your Mac is overheating? SL does make your computer work hard, and there is a real chance of overheating. Normally, you don't get the message you get, so this might not be it. I have a Mac with the same type of card and have not had overheating issues on it, but I don't live in a particularily hot climate. - Luc -
  21. Had you not said anything about the other PC or that you could stay logged in before, I would have guessed the router could be an issue. Some NetGear routers have been causing this kind of problem in the past. I don't know if they still do. Other than that - do you get any error message or 'warning'/sign that you are about to be logged out? How's your packet loss in the viewer (Press Ctrl+shift+1 to open the performance panel)? Does it help to lower the max bandwidth setting? Does it work with other viewers? Edit your post in the top right corner, under 'Options', to add information. - Luc -
  22. I agree with Dil on the scaling issue. Apply scale and the message should be gone. The black triangles when baking AO is something else. First though, the difference with Normalized and not is that normalized will bake using a white color, whereas not normalized will bake using the diffuse color of whatever material is applied to the model. Are you using a solidify modifier on the mesh? I saw somewhere els that you liked using it on your models. The triangles could be that the bake is baking the inside of the jacket on top of the outside since the solidify uses thee same uv coordinates as the mesh it solidifies. i this is the case, Try turning rendering off for the solidify and bake again. Hope this helps. - Luc -
  23. That thing that is blocking your way - can you right click it and get the edit dialog up to see what it is and who owns it? /me says 'Hiya Charolotte!!' - Luc -
  24. Finding the optimal bandwidth setting is partly a matter of tweeking it to see what works the best. You'll have to try to see what gives the best performance. Also pay attention to the packet loss number in the performance panel (ctrl+shift+1). You don't want persistent packet loss of any significance. Some, in spurts, is probably not a problem. You will not loose your inventory if you reinstall, and I recommend removing the files you mention as part of an uninstall process. The inventory is stored on LL's servers and will be reloaded the next time you log in. Be adviced that chat and IM logs are stored in the folder you mention, so if you want to keep these, you should copy these to a safe place before deleting the Second Life folder. - Luc -
