  1. I'm not sure if you mean "asexual" as some kind of special category of people who represent some kind of identity or experience, or whether you mean "non-sexual". The SL Public Land Preserve, which you can find in search/places, has many locations where you can hang out, relax, boat, play games, camp, socialize -- and they have no adult furniture and are not for sexual expression. They are open to the public. Get the full list of locations at the landing in Carlisle.
  2. This is all interesting information. Thank you for outlining all these points. I myself experience some of them. I personally don't plan to leave SL but I do believe it's a good time to sell land.
  3. Send them this very picture with the very thing you said here, and ask them to please remove the dayglo green borders.
  4. LL paid top programmers like Jack Linden to work the welcome areas back in the day, when they had less revenue than they have now. Were you looking to become an unpaid mentor yourself? While they lack pay, they make up for it by steering newbies to the stores and clubs of themselves and their friends.
  5. I don't have a "tussle". I make legitimate criticisms which -- interestingly -- over the years have become mainstreamed with regard to all the major platforms of Google, Twitter, Facebook, etc. -- same awful Silicon Valley culture. I don't have any odd configuration or ISP maladies. They're the most standard there are. And some of the things didn't occur 6 months ago or last year, i.e. the AV trigger so it's something new in the software on LL's end.
  6. There are no experiences and experiences have not done this anywhere else. As I mentioned, even when you push the tear-off screen over to the left or right, it doesn't STICK, even during THE SAME LOG-IN.
  7. All of the screenshots and logs have been submitted to the Lindens who have been looking at this since July. There are no URLs on the parcels that trigger this. There are no deeded objects There are no avatars There is nothing in "media" and it is switched to "none". Yet it persists. It can be seen on logs and Lindens accepted it as an issue. There's no explicable reason for an AV to be triggered only on one or two adjacent regions, and never anywhere else, i.e. not other sims on that same channel, or any other kind of sim at all. I know it's hard to ever accept that there could EVER be anything wrong on the Lindens' side, but it is unscientific not to question their servers, too. You're welcome to go fly around Grote and Slosser and see if it triggers for you. But it might not. Maybe you don't have the same AV (AVG). Maybe some other factor like ISP or browser or who knows what in combination triggers this. But all the areas have been policed for URLs, etc. and they aren't the cause and all have been erased anyways and it still triggers.
  8. No. Retention has been terrible for the entire lifetime of Second Life, some 17 years now. In part this is due to the idea that existing customers are enough to onboard new customers. They aren't. Trained, paid staff are required, not only to help new customers but keep out griefing and obnoxious wall-sitters. There's also the plan I've repeatedly mentioned which involves ad boards LIKE WE USED TO HAVE AT TELEHUBS where you can purchase an ad for a limited time so that people looking for "things to do" can click and go some place, whether to live music, shopping, clubs, book readings, whatever. The paid Linden staff can vet those as well. When the Lindens finally deployed a seasoned, dedicated paid professional -- Patch Linden -- and the others who assist him (the Moles) to the problem of increasing premium accounts and making Linden Homes attractive, they achieved their goal. When the Lindens are ready to achieve retention of others who aren't choosing Linden Homes, and apply staff and serious methodology to the issue, they will also achieve the desired goals. Forums regs and FIC didn't ask for new Linden Homes. People you don't hear from did. Then after the Lindens launched this initiative, the forums regs followed. You can't always listen to the forums.
  9. Um, it's not my AV going nuts as that would not be happening on just one or two sims, as is the case. It would happen on all sims. I travel to lots of sims. It's only happening on one, sometimes two.
  10. Whirly, when the log-ons are rocky -- and they often are -- the system is putting on this unwanted t-shirt for clothes that in fact are NOT missing and are in the outfit, it's just they haven't loaded yet. So it's an annoyance for sure. This is really the nanny state at work, I have to say. If something is missing for any real length of time, I can replace it myself, you know? I don't need the library white Philip Linden newbie shirt to be forced on me.
  11. It's not like their Mole wages are so high that they would turn down this opportunity.
  12. I'd rather have paid and trained staff rather than the Mentors' system which is vulnerable to corruption.
  13. Fortunately the Lindens, who take multiple logs and investigate things with far more good will and science than people on the forums, don't share your view.
  14. That's nice. Re: the triggering of the AV - a Linden is making a JIRA about this now. So whatever. Re: TPs, it was listed as an issue on the Grid Status. So again, whatever. The window opening over the object across years, over many different computers and systems and Internet providers, is not somehow "only my problem". Grey squares has been going on for way too long for too many people. Etc. How's the weather on the beta grid?
  15. If you Google "Myst is impossible to Play" you will find many agree with me. https://www.google.com/search?q=myst+was+impossible+to+play&oq=myst+was+impossible+to+play&aqs=chrome..69i57.3479j0j7&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8
  16. Um, a teen account? I've been in SL since 2004 and I'm 16 years old. Don't be ridiculous. The system t-shirt thing is a bug occasionally fixed when I file a ticket. The money showing as ??? has gone on for years and I'm not the only one with it, and it's not about "settings," don't be silly. I've never seen this AVG thing go off until last year, when it began, and then continued, on this one sim. Every lot, URL, setting, deeded media etc etc has been policed. It's being explained in various ways but not being fixed. The edit window is something other people inworld acknowledge; people on the forums who don't log in don't acknowledge. Next. TPs remain broken; as recently as Oct. 2, LL admitted this; they continue to not work in places. The end. Everyone I know was reporting grey squares last night, for example. Again, I think the trouble is you people don't log in and try to do things. Or you are on the beta grid. Or you are on a private island somewhere? Whatever. I'm reporting what happens on the Mainland.
  17. I filed a ticket on this and have gone many, many rounds with Lindens on this, and they have taken multiple logs on multiple log-ins, and at first they claimed this was about not setting audio to "none". But that doesn't work. There are no URLs on sound or media and no deeded items. It only happens on certain sims. You don't know that LL's systems are not compromised; they could be, like any other computer. Or it could be an error of some kind. It's completely unscientific never to consider LL's servers in a situation like this.
  18. I know that techs like to chase things like avatar feet shadows and Windlight bugs but it's helpful to remember the bog-standard experience for the average person and what annoys them: 1. System puts a t-shirt on you, unasked, and you can't delete it, you first have to take it off, then delete it. 2. When you log on, your money shows ???, and if you forget to click on it once, when you attempt to buy something, it tells you that you have "no" money. 3. Group chat lags or doesn't show at all. 4. Edit window opens directly over the object you are editing, so you can't see it. When you push it to the side, it doesn't stay put even in one long-on session. 5. Some sims are triggering anti-virus programs and showing malware not on users' land, not on their URLs, and not in deeded objects. This leaves: Linden sims. 6. TPs often don't work from the World Map 7. Objects with images on them continue to show as gray squares long after you have been on the sim. 8. Names in full cannot be search on groups; you have to type one or two letters and scroll through. 9. In large inventories, the cursor slips and sometimes will not stay put even after you click on it. 10. When Advanced Lighting is checked off, along with show parcel boundaries, the boundary lines from the sim you are on and nearby sims bleed through all objects, creating visual annoyances.
  19. The problem the Lindens have with Bellissaria is like the problem that game developers have, about which Raph Koster and other designers have written: the customers burn through content faster than you can make it. In fact, it's the same problem as Bellissaria is a version of the game "playing house". If they had the stilts tomorrow and you won one in the refresh-page sweepstakes, a month from now you'd be asking where the next thing is. They are unlikely to add prims because then the economy of it for them starts to lose the point -- they need a rough equivalent of premium accounts per sim to be like a single account with a private island. On Nautilus they had easements to provide extra prims and sold the land for opening bids that were young fortunes (and the price is still high). But if they don't sell land and don't have a set-up fee, there's nothing in it for them. So rent on the Mainland.
  20. I would love Craftsman style. In fact, one of the versions of the log cabin homes does look a bit like this.
  21. Always do the following before buying land: 1. Open up the Advanced Menu via preferences (advanced, enabled advanced and developer menus). 2. Scroll down on "render" and uncheck "volume" and "water". 3. Turn on world/view/property lines and world/view/property owners 4. This enables you to see if the seller has hidden any "donuts," i.e. land they own in the middle of land your are buying, which they may use to extort a sale. Or if it has any ad-farm cuts of 16 m or 32 m by it. 5. Ctr-Shift-1 gives you the menu of the statistics on that sim. Look at the FPS and TD (Time Dilation). They should be at 99 and 45. 6. Scroll down further and see number of scripts on the sim. When it gets over 4000, it can be laggy. Check also "Script Time" to see how much is left. A high number of scripts can lower that time and make it laggy. 7. Look at the claim dates on all your neighbouring land. Did they just move in? Have they been there for years? That will tell you how much stability there is. 8. Check for abandoned land and land for sale. Don't assume because it's abandoned it will stay that way. 9. Put your draw distance as high as it can comfortably go and see if there is anything blocking your view, a giant dome on the next sim, for example. 10. Don't assume that you can just de-render or live with things that are giant and/or ugly. They may change the prims to force fresh de-rendering. They may get worse. 11. Shop around, come back the next day, don't make impulse buys. There is plenty of land in SL, and you should not hurry. 12. Don't forget to exam abandoned land as a prospect to buy from the Lindens for $1/m. 13. If buying on the auction, make sure everything is working right -- that you have enough money in your account, that you have enough tier (you will be automatically tiered up) and that your computer is working because you may have to refresh a lot. Beware of people coming in to snipe at the last minute and set your bid higher accordingly if you wish to spend that mount on land. Always do the following before renting land: 1. Check to see who owns the land, and if grouped, who is the owner of the group. If they are not in the people list and gone from SL, keep looking. 2. Check the profile of the rentals agent and land owner to see their age. If they were born yesterday, keep looking. 3. The advice above as to "donuts," statistics, etc. also applies to see how healthy the sim is. 4. Check the terms and see if you can refund before the week or month is up for a cancellation fee. 5. Check whether there is a buy-back if you are buying on an island, which really is like renting with a deposit. 6. Google the rental owner and agent to see if they are associated with any scams.
  22. I see it more from end users than rental agents -- why would a rental agent deliberately disfigure land and make it hard to rent? It's pure insanity. You can see the borders of your land without any third-party tool on the viewer by going to world/view property lines. If you feel they are too light to see, turn on Midnight where they show up better. The obsession with property borders is misplaced because if you go over your parcel boundary, an object will return from Linden land or land not owned by you, except for the rare occasions the adjacent land is not on autoreturn. So why put out eyesores??? I could possibly understand why some might do this while building, but not even then, since it's in the viewer. But then why leave it on? Looks like a crime scene.
  23. Because the games you are going on in Steam do not have user content but only game company content so they can make it uniform. But these games are on shards also and not trying to make an actual contiguous world. If you want to drive better, go back to Steam. The driving is good enough in SL and it's more interesting in terms of what you see.
  24. They should put back the system to send people to infohubs. That's what they are there for. There are the Resident-Developed Linden Hubs (about 12), which some of us worked hard on. Why not use these resources? They are there.
  25. Myst was an impossible game to play. And I think Philip was inspired by "Snowcrash," not Myst, but the first welcome/orientation island the Lindens had seemed right out of Myst. It was impossible to get out of as you get banging your head on the Greek-style portico as you flew out Finally they changed it. PS Waterhead has that problem, I used to call it Headbangers' Ball.
