If they would be totally free in their choice to work then we could talk about being thankful. You could also be thankful that some guys somewhere keep the power stations running, so you can use your computer and cook your christmas dinner or you could be thankful for the people providing you radio- and tv program. The list is endless, but they all don't do it cause they like the customers so much or their work....no, they don't want to get fired. Its simply their job. I do it because it's polite and in the spirit of the season. So thank you Lindens. I didn't even login this year, but I would have been very lonely indeed without it a couple of years ago.
  2. p.s. I am the only idiot who rezzed the half-hull model thinking it was a different version, then wondered where the rest of it was?
  3. This is me and the Rozinante from Trudeau. I love it and I'm already completely BRILLIANT at flooding the decks!
  4. You might get a better response to this in the technical forums Bristle. The real experts on this are in there.
  5. If this is just favourite videos, meaning the video and not the song, I love this one:
  6. Good lord, you guys do fight about some pretty pointless stuff! Merry christmas all
  7. Actually, Two Sy. I want a decent boat too now, so thanks for this thread. I think the Linden boat was an ace idea. I'd never sailed at all before but it's good fun as well as being fun and frustrating in equal measure.
  8. It was a free gift at a hair fair I think. It's called W&Y HAIR New 114 LIMITED. I'd give you my copy but it's no transfer I'm afraid. Sorry. ETA: yukitan Florian is the creator. It might be worth sending a notecard or IM to see if she'll let you have a copy.
  9. Venus Petrov wrote: After having suggested several times for Mr or Ms Linden Lab to introduce themselves to our forum Community. Thus far, that has not happened. I am not surprised that yet another one-liner OP by an anonymous LL staffer should provoke such responses as you read here. That's just it Venus. Why should they? It's not our forum, it's theirs. They can choose to ignore you. They can choose to pay attention to you and listen to what they have to say. It's all about how you approach it. I think we cut our own throats sometimes. Gonna bow out now because I don't feel like nutting up soldier.
  10. Now I'm intrigued. Where were you going to slot "nicest" in? ETA: Scrub that. It sounds wrong in MANY ways
  11. While I'm here, I think a read of the LL asked Question, what are the books and movies that inspired you in Second Life gives a perfect example of the forum tone. It's humour, yes, the lowest form of wit mainly, but it can be read two ways. That's the whole point of sarcasm. I get this and I find sarcasm funny, but it is laid on so very thick that it loses the distinction and appears to be meant. Sarcasm works best with subtlety. That thread looks condescending and rude to me. I mean...Facebook for Dummies? It's a fine line when it's text only, and I think a little lighter on the pedantry and sarcasm wouldn't go amiss.
  12. Yes Storm I responded to the OP. I stand by how I view the tone of this forum. It can be intimidating IMO. I've always said that and I still think it's the case. What I didn't insinuate myself in are the private wars that seem to be going on among forum members. I wish they were just that, private. To me, the two are connected. That's my opinion. I don't ask you to agree or disagree, but I do politely ask that my words are used in the context they were meant and not as fuel for any ongoing disputes. Please? I'm not a grouch sitting behind my keyboard waiting to pounce on a missing apostrophe or something. I'm a warm human being who is saddened by stuff like this. If that makes me weird then so be it.
  13. Oh I see. Then please Storm, leave me out of this?. I have no dog in this race.
  14. WOAH! What was that about Storm? I wasn't asking anyone to leave! ETA; I have no idea what either LWLs or PICards are. It seems to me that I offend both by not knowing this.
  15. Now come on LL, you're beginning to sound like a poorly thought-out survey here. But since you're asking, I don't RP in SL so I don't think I've been influenced by either really. I wasn't a gamer before joining and I'm not now. SL has taught my a really shoddy understanding of 3D and a MUCH better understanding of photoshop, and for that alone I am grateful.
  16. My reply to Storm WAYYYY back in this thread seems to have sparked a small war....and what's worse, I don't understand what it's about so I can't be bothered to make popcorn. To me, though, it's serving as a perfect example of what I meant in the first place. I've been hanging around here for yonks, on and off, and I have no idea what this is about. I know enough about most of the writers here to understand their tone, but that because I've been here for yonks. How is a new member supposed to wade into this?, and it seems to carry through most threads, which is what makes me so darn grumpy about it. Now get off my lawn!
  17. No Griffin, we have ASDA. Same thing only more green in colour.
  18. I won't "fix" it because to me it's not broken, but I would like to see a better avatar mesh so that skin, clothes and shape don't distort as uglily (new word! YAY!) as they do now.
  19. I IMed someone who asked a question in here once and she tped me to show me what was up. As soon as I rezzed she said, WOW! Stylish avatar! Not hot, not smexy, not cool, but stylish. As I'd made my shape and half of the stuff I was wearing I was thrilled to bits.
  20. A gorgeous song Sy. Mine is a song I probably would never have heard without SL, but which came at a time in my life to give me a genuine epiphany (non-religious thank FSM). This song means loads to me.
  21. Orca Flotta wrote: The Linden Realms game is absolutely contrary to the slogan of Your World Your Imagination. This is a prefabricated game by LL in a world where all content is supposed to be created by the customers. I guess you can't blame LL for this perversion of their old slogan but probably the customers for their lack of imagination. Next question: do we want/need any noobs in SL which don't find anything more useful to do with their time then playing a primitive game? Yes, LL needs them to populate SL, to spend money, to pay premium fees, to buy land and pay tiers ... but are those "consumers" any good pioneer material? Do they contribute to the development of this new world? Do they create physical or social content? Do they make SL better for you and for me? Actually Orca, I'd rather take those awful, horrible, clueless noobs who come in with high expectations and a sense of excitement, than your jaded views any day of the week. I'd steer them away from folks with your attitude and show them what SL can do for them. You can sit on your back porch shouting at the kids to get off your lawn all you like. We won't bother you.
