  1. (btw .. you owe me a nickel) Storm Clarence wrote: I can't help you here Darrius. I wrote unemotional facts in response to your request. Infer all the anger or love of your choosing - doesn't matter to me. I stated facts; unemotionally. PS sends you love and kudos for pointing out whatever it was you where attempting to point out. Perhaps this is where the disconnect between your perception and that of others occurs. By your statement above, you wrote your reply with an unemotional voice. However it appeared on the page as one charged with an air of hurt feelings and ... dare I say it ... puffery, almost aghast that someone might accuse you of making a mistake. I'll not dispute your assertion though, that the lack of posts in the Off Topic forum accounts for the discrepancy between your stated "over 3K posts" and the number shown on your badge. I am though somewhat startled that you would amass that many posts in this one particular forum in the very short time it has been open. However, that is neither here nor there ... because as you've so clearly stated many times, this thread is not about you. What I saw, and from the replies of others I was not alone, was an air of superiority expressed not through clear statements of fact and jovial banter, but with a tinge of entitlement and disrespect for the views of others. As much as this new PIC Prime Directive is about ensuring an equal and beneficial forum for all to participate, expressions of overt superiority run against that goal. I do believe that no person or participant here should be above or below any other (with the obvious exception of the Mods of course), but in order to ensure that it is promoted properly and with the best hopes of success, the manner in which the promoters present themselves must be extra clean and extra clear in exemplifying that sentiment. Therefore I call on you again, as one of the visible leaders in this stated drive to provide balance and fairness to all, that you carefully re-examine your means of posting replies ... and perhaps listen to myself and others when we share what to us are valid concerns and observations.

  3. Storm Clarence wrote: The lithium post count does not reflect posts to the off topic forum. The software I designed, and for my personal consumption, allows me to understand exactly my post count totals. The Lithium software contains the factual errors. Furthermore, your usage of the word 'substantially' to support your statement is a factual error; as I do not consider <10% a 'substantial' number - unless we are talking about margin of error when tossing hand grenades or horse shoes. PS My software and consultation on its implementation may be available, at no charge, to anyone that requests. Again I point out that you are not adhering to the letter of your Prime Directive. Your reply to me is laced with an air of anger, yet I did not attack you. Under the terms of your Prime Directive, your response should have been one of positive acknowledgement and gratitude, along with an even-handed explanation of the discrepancy. Storn, only you set the tone of your responses. You are the one that posted the Prime Directive and thus should be the one to hold the torch aloft for others to follow. Please, you are causing great disappointment amongst your followers by your failure to demonstrate how best to implement those brave bold words. PS: If I manage to decrease my expenses by 10%, that is a very substantial savings. For some people, 300 posts is a lifetime's worth. I suppose for some, 300 posts is but a days activity here, but to most the number is very large. It is, in the end, relative to one's personal POV.

I encourage all to throw humor my way; and many do - I respond accordingly. Be a bully and I will bully right back - whether 'ALL' readers can grasp the tangential, or not. This thread is about all of us - if you want to make it about me - cool. I will stand my ground. Storm, Your Prime Directive seems to be of import to you. It has been my long-held belief that things of import to us are also things we defend strongly. You are the one in control of your keyboard, you should use that control to post in accordance with your true nature and stated beliefs. If it is so important to you, then act it, live it, show others how strong you can be and how right are those words. PS: Your post count is substantially below 3K. You should probably edit your reply that states otherwise to correct that factual error.
  5. When I was testing ANS with Brodesky, he ran a few test transactions that he aborted in some fashion. Either he didn't have enough L$ in his account or he did something else to stop it before delivery. The only one I really recall was him not having enough L$. Are the items expensive, or is it possible that people have put two in their cart and since they don't know how to remove or edit the quantity, they come up short on cash?
  6. @Persephone: If I understand you correctly, here are my thoughts ... Freebies, prizes, hunt gifts and the like - If you didn't make them and you didn't pay for them then IMO the most ethical course would be to tuck a Notecard in with them drawing attention to the original creator. Not only does it help folks find more of the same items from the same creator, but it doesn't accidentally give folks the impression you made them. Items that are full perm - Generally not a good idea to pass these along as it tends to come off looking like a rip-off. Even though you didn't and your intentions are good .. it's the perception that can hurt you. Pricing above or below original pricing - Again it "feels" tacky. And just in case, you might want to drop an IM or notecard to the original creator and ask their feelings. Some folks started out not realizing how permissions should be used and inadvertantly gave away things they now regret. It's not required, but it is classy. Overall, I'd make sure the items are in a section clearly marked for and set aside for reselling others' creations. The more you can do to distinguish them from your stuff, the better for all involved ... again IMO.
  7. Argus Collingwood wrote: Did they buy any enhancements? No clue. I never look at those except to check that mine (all now expired btw) are showing. I do wonder though, seeing the type of products being sold with that scam attached, if they're all CopyBotted products.
  8. @Lexbot - Check the customer's profile to see their age. Anyone that knows about full perm being "bad" must be fairly well established. Just generally check them out to be sure. It is possible to use copybot-like techniques to set items as Full Perm like that, so it may just be a trick. (Although for what purpose ... I have no idea.) Also double-check your transaction history and see when the item was purchased from you. Then check your chatlog history (or offline IMs) in hopes you can determine which Magic Box sent the item. You should probably pull the item out of that Magic Box and check it specifically too. If you're not sure which Magic Box sent it, the a safe procedure would be to check them all. As I learned long ago in tech support: Double-check .. then check again. 8^)
  9. An item posted on the SL Marketplace was brought to my attention by a friend of mine. It's a very sneaky approach to Spamming the Marketplace that probably flies below the normal radar. What they've done is include an ad for an alternate e-commerce site in their main image. Take a look: The product description also includes this text: I will greatly appreciate to those who like my creations and help to support my website below. Thank you very much. Travellers' Savers - [link to website shown in above image removed to prevent linking to actual site] What does the website do? Travellers' Savers searches the hotel websites directly and in real-time ensuring you receive and compare the latest prices and availability on the same screen. 1) Search 90,000 hotel deals in over 30 hotel merchant websites and compare rates easily with it to get the Best Deal all in the ONE website. 2) Write a review in the community forum 3) Completely free to use and no POP ups. I suspect there are more such spam products from this merchant, but I have not looked. However I did flag this one, I am just not sure if they'll take care of it until Monday. If not then this merchant will benefit all weekend long from their scam. Frankly .. that SUX! It also appears this product has been on the Marketplace for a long time as it has quite a few reviews. They may be "bought" reviews or it may be this merchant just decided to start using a popular and cheap product to hype their other e-commerce business. Whichever is correct, this practice is strictly against the Marketplace guidelines and TOS. If you spot this product (or any others like this) please take the time to Flag it so the SLM Mods can deal with it appropriately.
  10. Kaiser Bogomil wrote: I would like a check box in mine & everyone else's profile that gives us permission by the profile owner to export our own paid for prims to the other grids. Or on each prim an addional permission check box that allows the export of that prim if and only if the avi is the owner of the prim and the prim has copy permissions. The market outside of SL has potential - I'd like to take advantage of that. (and besides ... if SL gets sold I'd like a safe place for everything I've paid for.) I kind of like this idea Kaiser, but I fear it won't be used by many. I think most Merchants would rather sell it again in the new Grid. However, with that said, the best way to submit this suggestion is to create a JIRA Feature Request. If you're not familiar with the JIRA system, you can log into it HERE ... and then read its help from the main "Dashboard".

Awww shoot Void, I was thinking we could have LL grab a backup of the Sim today, then rollback to it next Halloween. Then you went and got all techie on it. *fooey*

  13. Some years ago, while studying Expert Systems and Heuristic algorithms, I stumbled across a story of a developer that inadvertantly discovered a truly remarkable feature of automated voting populations. (Essentially 100's or 1000's of independent programs that each look at the input then "vote" one way or another based on their particular attributes.) He planned on having each member of the population ranked 0 through 5, with the value reflecting their accuracy in previous votes. Due to a small oversight, the rank was allowed to go negative. Although this was essentially a "bug" as it did not fit his design, he didn't notice it for some time and his system was performing amazingly well. Then one day he spotted the bug, fixed it .. and immediately the new systems failed horribly at learning and voting correctly. He replaced the "bug" and once again the system began performing to its old fantastic levels. The lesson I took away from that is this: Systems based on wholly positive feedback and content fail, whereas systems based on balanced feedback with balanced ranges of input perform well. While I do understand the desire to have positive outcomes to conversations here, I think limiting the input to only positives will inevitably doom the result to less than reliable or less than accurately representative of the Community as a whole.
  14. Toysoldier Thor wrote: So...... here is the $million question..... How do we get Brooke and the LL Commerce/Development Team to take this critical function/service serious and make it a part of the AIS solution that gets deployed? I would suggest filing a Feature Request JIRA for Marketplace, posting the link here (and on twitter) then asking people to follow and if desired comment.

  20. Phil Deakins wrote: I've had 2 weird things happening in this mainland sim in the last few days. The first was a small area of my store where my V1 viewer instantly shut down a few seconds after I got to the area - every time. I had two sessions of that happening on consecutive days. The other was yesterday when a chair in the store, and the person who was sitting on the chair, were totally invisible to me. The chair's floating text was all that I could see. When I got next to the chair, I became invisible too. It was a much tinier area than the previous one. I actually thought that the person was wearing an invisiprim but I couldn't cam to see anything inside it - neither me nor her nor the chair. A relog fixed it. Strange doings indeed. Phil? Your seated friend wasn't naked .. were they? Y'know how LL is cracking down on that naughty stuff these days. LOL (ducks and runs)
  21. Peewee Musytari wrote: I would suggest she reads the TOS line by line and finds the one she may have broken or could be interpreted that way, though I have never really understood why LL don`t just tell people what they did wrong, afterall how are you supposed to appeal it if you don`t know what "it" is? There are too many for us to actually guess which one it might be Regarding the line I bolded above: This is a subject I have brought forward for discussion in many different instances ... and it applies throughout many of the SL and LL "properties" too. An integral part of Moderation (and in this instance, Rules Enforcement) is the education of the offender to help prevent a repeat offense. Any breach of the rules, however it may be punished or corrected, should always include a complete and fully explained description of the offense. Without that reference, the "guilty" are left completely unable to amend their ways. While it is true that for many instances the offense is readily apparent, there are also many times when it is not ... or worse when the accusations made are false (filed as a form of harassment or griefing for example). I do not have any objection to LL taking the drastic step of permanently banning an account, however I do find it unforgivable that such action does not contain a complete description of the offense that brought on the punishment. I also find it ... at least hard to believe, if not most likely incorrect .. that LL would permanently ban an account without at least one prior incident. I would suggest you speak very closely with your friend and push them on the point of prior offenses. Chances are good, IMO, that you are not quite hearing the whole story here. With that said, my objection to the punishment and banning process stands ... without full disclosure of the exact offense and its particulars, nothing but anger and retribution will result. In my opinion, LL still has a ways to go yet before they get this critical part right.

  23. @Brooke - I echo ToySoldier's concerns about AIS "getting it right" at initial rollout. But I also see where having a Central "Delivery Only" Alt can be very beneficial for other reasons: Customers will be able to rapidly identify the Store Brand because the Delivery Alt will have a Display Name that matches the store brand name. Multiple Creators that all sell as partners through the same store can continue to do so. They won't have to give their stuff to one of the partners, they'll all give their stuff to one central Alt. A Delivery-Only Alt will have a very limited Inventory thus improving delivery issues because the total count of inventory items will be lower (and in some people's cases, a LOT lower). For many of us, having a clear separation (as we have now with an external Magic Box) helps with the mental and physical organization of our "For Sale" items. In-progress versions stay in our personal inventories, Release versions go in the Delivery Alt (now Magic Box). These are just off the top of my head. Given some time to sit down and think through the entire process (and having a bit more detail would REALLY help ... *hint hint*), I'm sure I can cook up more scenarios where having a separate Delivery-Only Alt will be beneficial.

  25. Oskar, Sorry to report but I am still unable to receive IMs from scripted devices while offline. After today's roll, my Sim is now running the new RC ... but still no IMs from scripted objects. Any chance of this being looked into, or should I file a JIRA on it?
