  1. Raise your hand if you've ever, newbie or not, ended up accidentally naked in a crowded place... I think the reasoning behind the 'modesty skins' is for the users' benefit. Considering newbies tend to click first and ask questions later and instead of ending up naked at a crowded info hub when changing clothes for the first time these skins avoid that. There are many freebie skins around that don't have your bits covered that I don't think LL is forcing anyone to do anything. The library skins are lots better now than they have been in the past - you should have seen what I ran around in back in 2006!
  2. if you look close enough there are even some LL Library hairs for sale on MP...
  3. Besides the other good suggestions on this thread, It looks to me like your friend is just using a different Windlight setting than you are, if you're using one at all. Unless they are using exactly the same settings as you are, everyone around you sees your avatar differently than you do. Ask your friend which setting they are using. There is also a setting in Preferences to allow your own Windlight setting to be over-ridden by an estate's setting, if that option is checked in Preferences, the viewer will automatically use whatever setting that is enabled in that sim. If you haven't checked out any of the Windlight settings in the Enviroment Editor, you should try it, it's interesting. The provided choices range from pretty realistic to absolutely insane, and many were designed to enhance a particular theme on a sim. The default SL lighting is pretty lame compared to almost any of the custom settings, and you also have the option of tinkering with Windlight and creating your very own. I'm not sure if the LL viewer has the built-in choices, but FIrestorm does. There is also the choice of returning the settings to the SL Default as it's on the list. in these photos, the viewer on the left is using Places-Paris, while the viewer on the right is using the SL Default.
  4. I have found that some of the LL library items are like that, in order to take them off you have to actually wear another item in their place (in my case I was puzzled when I couldn't detach a library hair) - just find another pair of gloves in your inventory that are not LL-library items and wear them. they will take the place of the un-removable item and then you can take the replacement item off.
  5. Whatever helps LL pay the bills without raising tier works for me.
  6. I was addicted from the first time I logged in in 2006... and I still enjoy it. As a creative outlet it can't be beat. Plus I met the rl love of my life in sl, and we're still going strong. I still wander around the grid, exploring and being nosy, and find myself constantly amazed by the diverse talent and imagination displayed everywhere.
  7. google his name, you're not the only one who has had problems with him.
  8. It's a pretty avatar and yes, it's more than 5% covered.
  9. To echo a previous poster, for what it's worth - I'm having the same issue when editing prims. Not constantly, I can edit them for say ten minutes, then by just selecting a prim - BAM - crash to desktop. It's been happening for about a week. Doesn't matter if it's prims I'm wearing, or prims just rezzed on their own. Absolute PIA when trying to create , well, just about anything.
  10. Welcome to the forum, Annette. There might be an award for posting your very first comment to an almost two-year-old thread. :matte-motes-big-grin-wink:
  11. Like Ceka said, I also thought that brand new accounts couldn't post on the forum for a few days or a week or something -- due to all the "watch [insert tv show name here] on blah blah blah website FREE" spam posts we used to get... maybe that's been changed or was just a rumor to begin with, don't know.
  12. Make a shirt out of the templates and wear it - take pics of where the lines fall on your avatar and you'll get a better idea of what lines are for what. The lines DO line up on the templates, but just like a the surface of a globe, when you flatten that surface the results look rather odd.
  13. I thnk Amazon shouldn't have set this deal up so that multiple SL accounts could purchase the same product (free lindens and free hoverboard, I think) using the same Amazon account... so they pulled the offer. it just opened the door for serious gaming of the offer by someone using alts. Don't know whose oversight it was, but I tend to put the blame for this one on Amazon and not LL. The interesting thing about it to me is having SL merchandise available on Amazon at all... could be a better marketplace setup than the current one.... I wonder if there are plans to expand it.
  14. and heaven forbid a child goes to a fine art museum and sees a statue of a naked person. they could possibly be damaged for life.
  15. check your build settings - there is a setting that will make the prim you select transparent. I can't remember if it's in the build tools menu or on the advanced tab but I'm pretty sure it's in one of the two.
  16. some people dont see your display name at all, it's an option in some viewers to turn it off.
  17. Perrie Juran wrote: Orca Flotta wrote: . You got me wrong here. The male reproductive organ is sexual and it would be against RL laws and SL TOS to swing it around in the open. My boobs on the other hand aren't. So are you telling us that having your boobs touched, kissed, fondled, etc, adds no enhancement to your sexual experiences? But even without breasts, a woman can have sexual experiences. And breast do serve another function as well, where whereas the male dodad, not so much.
  18. I find the endless debate over cartoon nudity in SL pretty funny. I don't see how a cartoon bewb could offend anyone, anyway. As if someone could make it to 16 and never see a bewb.../me rolls eyes. Better keep those 'kids' out of RL art museums too. And definitely off the the internet. And don't let them see TV. Or movies. Better put a shirt on the dog while we're at it...
  19. So, are you telling me that it is wrong to create celebrity-style skins even though I don't intend to sell them? I can see why uploads cost 10L, and they probably get viewed by LL each time they are uploaded. No, there isn't a linden sitting there watching each and every gazillion uploads every day, lol, but using someones image without permission, whether you intend to sell it or not, is a no-no. Just because skins are extraordinarily difficult to do well doesn't mean you shouldn't give it a try, tho.
  20. Also, does anyone know if there is/are/has been published accounts...blogs...websites...new artcles, etc.... explaining Chip Midnight or Robin Wood templates? You could ask Chip about his templates. If you can't get his attention in-world, you could go on SLU and message him there. I really don't think there are any super-secret templates or anything like that out there - if there is they are REALLY super secret!
  21. how are you getting the textures for her exisitng clothing? that would be where a TOS violation could occur and get you into trouble.
  22. this sometimes happens after you take off a pair of long pants - try putting on a pair of socks and see if it changes anything. if it does re-set your ankle, you can then take off the socks. this works for me but ymmv.
  23. if a SL viewer crash made your computer reboot you need to check your hardware, starting with your video card.
  24. some people have run into a problem where old, no longer valid billing info ends up in their accounts. it happened to me and several others I know of. i had to re-enter billing info I knew to be valid after realizing LL was attempting to bill an expired debit card that I had already updated info on several months before.
