  1. "the regolith in the Linden Lab secret lunar base" Torley? New serverfarm with HQ speedy thingies: Great! Dropping a farm: Great, the closer they are together the better! Sunshine: I have seen the behaviour when an avarar only rezzes *after* the server has a good chat with the computer of the avatar. By making this Serverside it will improve a lot, both the bystanders as the avatar will see instantly what the server knows. It will reduce the load on a connection. That is specially important when the user is on a slow connection. Next to that it should reduce the load on the LL servers that is the bottleneck when it comes to connections. Perhaps this can be improved in such a way that it's possible to have SL run on a tablet with streaming fragments of the world. Caching: Finally some good use for that small cache we have on our machines. SL doesn't speed up with having set a large cache, the opposite, it slows down. This action is very welcomed. HTTP Library: Unsure. HTTP has lost us residents and the ones that figured out ho to set UDP again could get affected by this. I have no idea what HTTP LIbrary is supposed to be.
  2. The non-official comment thread in reply to this Bog entry by LL. [ http://community.secondlife.com/t5/Tools-and-Technology/Project-Shining-to-Improve-Avatar-and-Object-Streaming-Speeds/ba-p/1583465 ]
  3. I know it's only partly related. With group IM's and the group is "open" ejecting doesn't do much, they just enter the group again. The trick is to create a role "morons" without any powers and place them into that.

    Shared Media

I have uploaded to the wiki an Icon that can be placed on the prim side that displays shared media. It will be shown to the people that have shared media disabled.
  5. When the US economy collapsed SL wasn't dented. The EU kept SL up preventing it from declining. The decline we notice now is directly related the to EU. To answer your question, the EU crisis is affecting SL, and quite hard too.
  6. I was never a successful Merchant but was able to balance SL costs with SL income. But at the moment, since about two months, it's zlich, nada, nothing, no-go, rien, niets, nix, ingenting, niente, nichts. Even less.

Josh Susanto wrote: I don't think the marketplace needs to be completely shut down in order for LL to temporarily stop charging for things for which they can't currently provide any reliable value, such as listing enhancements. OTOH, I'm not really that surprised that, now that I see LL actually acting like they are trying to fix stuff, merchants who have long been silent on this forum are suddenly coming out of the woodwork to say how vitally important it is to shut down the marketplace... you know, just as there's finally some kind of light at the end of the tunnel. Why do I not even need to bother checking in order to know that these day-critics tend to be heavily invested in in-world commerce? I wished I could see LL is trying to fix stuff. The forum is, well, different as it used to be. Check my profile to see how this one-day critic has heavily invested in in-world commerce, the go in-world to make sure.

  10. Pamela Galli wrote: why it seems to have started spreading more quickly now, I don't know. Because Merchants are requested to fix their listings. They move UP in the database and then the next Merchant has the mess. where it works at least part of the time. IMO, crippled is better than totally disabled. I disagree. With the continues modifications of the various databases it becomes totally impossible to identify the cause of this mess. I'd rather have it shut down knowing it will be re-released all fixed. I think we Merchants would be willing to have it frozen for a week or two with that promise.
  11. jjws888 wrote: Why haven't I experienced any of these things? 99/100 customers won't notice the problems. 100/100 Merchants are very worried.
  12. jjws888 wrote: What exactly is the problem? Products of other merchants are shown in the store. Products that have been deleted half a year ago are shown. Products are paid and delivered but the merchant doesnt receive a L$. Adult products are shown in PG stores. Images and product decriptions are mixed. Things like that and I am sure I have forgotten things. It's a mess and that is going on since DD was introduced.
  13. WADE1 Jya wrote: Oh but.. but.. the Lindens won't get their commissions & 'feature enhancement' monies while its frozen/stopped! Can't stop the machine :catsurprised: Yeah I agree its thoughtless.... what they are doing here is an example of myopic planning at its worst. *sighs* When it's frozen they/ we can still get our stuff. When in a frozen state they *should* be able to, at least, clean up and fix temporary things. And work on a real fix. This is getting way out of hand.
  14. Or just close it and fix it. But fix it. This is going on for way too long!
  15. If I understand correclty deleting and relisting is a no-no. I was told it's a breach of some policy and you'd loose your stars and reviews. OTOH, I'd relist if I had such a mess and take my chances.
  16. Sassy Romano wrote: he'd have to demonstrate what that loss was in any sensible procedings How about this. There has been a time where it was promoted to linke RL names with SL names. Suppose this, Gus his wife left him, after burning the house, thinking he plays a shemale in SL. He got fired thanks to SL. And is now living in a wrecked car. The Marketplace should be shutdown for the duration of this Jira.
  17. Czari Zenovka wrote: That is way worse Indeed. Our little ramblings bleach seeing that. Some items have been flagged, which is correct and will probably be removed. However, when things are fixed (....) guess who will have to place items back in a store...? And on what way could Gus ever get his reputation back?
  18. Did you see the last entry in https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/WEB-4587 made by Gus Georgia? Look at his store. It's a total shock.
  19. Interesting and positive. The Jira is updated with Fix Pending. http://community.secondlife.com/t5/Merchants/Marketplace-and-Direct-Delivery-Update/td-p/1462915 tells "Problem identified" (but that was told once before) and testing a fix. DD migration deferred to August 1. Sorting price low to high gives 97 incorrect listings (was higher). It's possible there is a security hole but it doesn't look like it. It appears being an ancient mismatch of databases with a leak, that leak would normally be hand-purged but with the increase of users that purging went out of control. The sky isn't falling, it's just very dark, but I see a hint of clear sky ahead.
  20. WADE1 Jya wrote: Yet it has been erratic lately since data corruption began What I am totally confused about is LL call to update listings. It is quite clear it's a mismatch of databases and a static environment is more stable. With the updates merchants make it appears unaffected stores get dragged into this hole. Given enough time all stores will look like junk one day soon. What I also don't understand is the apparent lack of priority given to this issue. It seems to drag on forever with new reports poring in like floods. That LL doesn't speak is something I understand but this issue is getting out of hand branding The Marketplace as unreliable, a mess, unmanaged, unmanned and not maintained by a reliable company. That is affecting all merchants that rely on a functioning system. FWIW I'd rather have it off-line during a week or two of maintenance as this. In the long run this dragging on hurts more.
  21. An interesting read to add. https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Linden_Lab_Official:Snapshot_and_machinima_policy
  22. ok, you pushed me to out the Troll in me. (and this is also test to see if the Forums still work a bit) In-world I mute spammers, sometimes I AR when it's offensive or commercial spam. For the rest, I avoid people that annoy me. I have not met anyone that had an opinion I found myself uncomfortable with, yet (racists for instance). Doesn't mean I agree with their opinion or lifestyle. There are corners in SL that people do not understand and think the worst of it. I know those corners and found valuable friends there, real people with rich emotions. I am no judge, however I have observed outside World (forums and feed) crowd behaviour that *is* annoying, griefing, public trashing. And the individuals the thrive on that, and the individuals that have no idea what harm they can cause. In-world chat is volatile, it's gone when spoken and has less impact on me. In forums and the feed the words remain and leave a permanent mark. In RL avoiding is not easy and there is no Mute button. It's way more complicated as SL which gives much more freedom. I once had to AR in RL and that ain't no fun.
  23. If you need to use a sandbox, rezz a cube, sit on it, edit Z-position to 2000 or something, then edit XY size to 20. Platform. Rezz another box, sit on it while working, set to busy and you are free of griefers.
  24. It appears this Jira will never get resolved. The Marketplace looks like a complete mess when sorting, cheap as we are, on price low to high. After this sort we move away from the marketplace to do our shopping in a different way. It would be nice if LL would drop a statement somewhere unhidden etc. Like in the Jira itself. We are supposer to remove our Magic boxes to move to Direct Delivery but with no sales, why would I?
  25. If we partner today we get a divorce by Planned Maintenance.
