How cool that you know this station! I happen to live nearby Spangle, can walk from my home to catch a train and have to admit in normal daylight it does not look that special. I am not 100 % sure, but I think for this picture I used one of Torley's Big Sun settings. I choose it to hide some nasty objects, as I am not a big fan of photoshopping stuff out/in - I find it a challenge to keep pics as original as I make them (as much as possible), specially when the subject is a building or environment.

I know it sounds a lot like British Rail (as was) but i'm being 100% serious. So, my questions are: 1) Is there a time-table i should be looking at? If there is such a thing, it's not obvious. 2) Do trains come by at regular intervals? I'm thinking in the region of, say, every 10-15 minutes, as opposed to every 2-3 hours (not that i've actually *seen* a train yet; i'm just sayin')? Or -- 3) Am i supposed to summon one and make it appear? Please help a frustrated (would-be) traveller. :-) Hiya, There is no timetable, you can pick up a free train yourself at most of the stations and rezz it to travel on the railways (its quite easy once you have it!) I did it a couple of weeks ago with my friend and had a great time! I am not inworld at the moment, but in my blogpost about my travel: http://wp.me/p124Bs-zi, you will find LM's to stations and a link to the wiki about the SLRR. Enjoy the ride!!
  3. I think I have told it before, ages ago...But I was really a naive noob. After being born on Orientation Island in 2007, I thought that was it. As in: this was Second Life! W00t! I had no clue there was more land or what the grid was. I opened the map, but figured it showed the land I was on. I spent around 3-4 weeks on Orientation Island, and found it amazing! I editted my 'Girl Next Door' avatar into a colourful person, not knowing how ridiculous I looked. Well, I hardly had any other examples, living in between other noobs! I did found it odd lots of people dissapeared and some I never saw back, till one day a guy told me you could actually leave this place and you were not supposed to stay here forever. Hang on? There was more?! So, I took a big jump into the world and landed in Waterhead Welcome Area, with the infamous Torch in my hand.Whoa! Cultureshock! A Mentor took me by the hand and showed me how to get nice (freebie) skins, shapes, hair and clothes and other places to explore..It was even more amazing than Orientation Island and I think this was the start to my urge to keep exploring, something I never stopped doing and still enjoy! By the way, I never regret spending my first weeks on Orientation Island and doing all the tutorials and basics. I sometimes sigh and wish the N00b of today has some more patience, instead of teleporting away 4 mins after arriving in SL and end up feeling even more clueless than I was when I arrived in Waterhead.

(Evenings for Europeans that is, LL did it of course in their morning...) There were times when the grid did not come back up in the scheduled time. I cannot remember the exact time it was down, but one time it looked as if the "maintenance" was going to run into the weekend. Anyone remember the longest down time from Wednesday maintenance? It also seems that invariably, most Wednesdays, someone would come onto the forums bemoaning the fact that they had scheduled a wedding for Wednesday night, having spent tons of Lindens and weeks of preparation for the event, even though everyone knew maintenance day was Wednesday, the grid was never guaranteed to come back up, and usually did not within the predicted time frame. I remember one really long downtime indeed. In 2007, I got back from holiday and discovered gambling was forbidden. I worked in a casino then. Ppl went protesting, in front of Governor Linden's Mansion, with signs. Then there was maintenance, grid closed..and it stayed closed till after the weekend (or maybe Sunday, not sure). At some point we could log in, but not teleport, I think I sat in front of the Governors Mansion for 2 days? LOL. (too bad I lost most of my pictures from that time when my harddisk crashed...)

What was more rare... and highly prized...was somtimes a glitch in the grid resulted in your head ending up in your ass. I say highly prized...but this depended on the point of view of the operator.....some were amused and some were miffed. Yeah that I remember! And also the frustration on Wednesday-evenings when the grid was closed for maintenance, once open it could take up to 2 hours to finally login. My claim was that LL lied........and what I infered was they lied about how great mesh was. Of course I neglected to read where Linden Labs told us that mesh could NOT be seen in detail any further away than two inches.....must have been in the small print. Since you are prepared to wear balloons you MUST have found it somewhere, can you give me a reference? I also believe that LL is trying to set a trend with their mesh clothing......balloon clothes to go with air heads...but that is another post You know what? Have fun dwelling in your negative vibes.
  8. It's been a tough week, so now I am looking for a fight...

If you dare point out its many flaws, the fanboys and -girls will eat you alive. It works great because the lab says so, and because there is something in it for me me me me ME, who gives a damn about your problems. People are like that. If something works out for them or even gives them an advantage, they're quick to patronize and lecture those who have valid complaints. Just look at middle class conservatives in the USA. "What, you're living under a bridge? You're doing it wrong. The system works, USA USA USA! Everyone can be a millionaire, and if everything else fails, you can always flip burgers! There is no poverty, lalalalala I can't hear you over the sound of how awesome this great country is!" This is pretty much the same situation. The system is screwed up, LL don't give a snot about us, it's adapt and go along with the program or die under a bridge, and everybody cheers because they're still better off than the homeless bum over there at the corner. If you complain, you must hate America. I mean Second Life. Oh well, I just happen to like mesh and viewer 2/3.0. I also like other stuff and other viewers. My point was that I found it odd that OP claims LL lied about the use of mesh compatible viewers, as he obviously did not bother to look up all the information there was from the start - but went off creating and now suddenly realises he needs a different viewer than he prefers. If he had read what was available, he would have known and saved him some dissapointment.

Never mind, you have you mind set in a negative, whiney way. Am sorry for you.
  12. Smoke Carter wrote: This is a reply to all three above: I hope you will retain your enthusiasm for mesh when your products start getting returned (or people keep telling you that you are wearing a balloon) because you cannot see the thing right at spitting distance.....even though it is half an avatar high. Please do not try to pretend that this is the FIRST time something "new and innovative" from SL did not live up to expectations, or that just because it is new, it is better. As far as other viewers enabling mesh......well, if I was a developer on an alternate viewer, I would really consider whether it is worth the effort. YES, mesh is that bad. I think it will be a thing of the past, unless they can correct the problem without requiring their consumers to buy extreme high end computers to handle the input. Even then, I doubt that the servers (which are ALREADY overtaxed) can keep up. Time will tell........... LOL! I am not pretending anything, you are obviously not well informed (allthough there was enough information to be found) and now try to blame others/LL for your dissapointment. People have indeed told me already I am either wearing a balloon or that a part of my avatar is missing. So? I explain what that is. I really can't be bothered. It is new and I find it better. I sofar love the mesh clothing I have bought, in shops that offer demo's and have HUGE signs telling buyers what viewer they need.
  13. They never lied. It was clear you needed a mesh compliant viewer from the start, even I (a non builder - only a consumer) knew. I love mesh, the clothes are awesome.
  14. Trying out 'Big Hair', stil not sure if it's something for me...
  15. Am happy with mesh-clothing, I can now finally sit without having my skirt sticking up in the air - or having it dissapear in the sofa!
  16. I need to learn to reply to the right person.....oh well it is late.
  17. Hiya Silvia, Hi Pep! Hi everybody! Ok. Bedtime.
