She is the only one I know of who even seems aware that there are merchants in SL. I second this. I have had some very positive interchanges with Dakota.

I would rather he communicate here first, after all this IS the second life forums, to me, communicating on twitter tells me more then no communication at all. I agree, Heart. I'm personally fed up with LL CEOs communicating everywhere but on the company's official site.

  4. *Inspire Space - Has been around since at least 2007 but is still a lot of fun. Meditate or dance "in space" among the planets. *Another way to travel around SL (ie. on the Linden roads or beside of them) is on horseback. Many places that sell horses also have free demos, some for limited use, such as 5 rezzes, etc. The AKK horse ranch has lovely areas for horseback riding. *VKC (Virtual Kennel Club) dogs - There are several different sims where one can visit and play with the VKC dogs and a volunteer helper is almost always available at most of the locations. I would recommend Turing Isle to begin. These dogs can be trained, with what they can do only limited by one's imagination. VKC offers regular training classes. There is an entire community built around the VKC dogs. *Caledon - A large number of sims that recreate the Victorian era. One does not have to be dressed in theme to enjoy Caledon. One of the best ways to gain an overview of the different areas is to take the train that traverses a great deal of the area. *Mieville - A group of Steampunk related sims. The last I visited one does not have to be dressed in theme. Edit: clarification
  5. Hi Emma I can relate to your situation since about six months ago I was seeking advice/information about purchasing a new PC. My stats are lower than what you want and can afford but these are the stats on my new (as of six months ago) PC: CPU: Intel® Core i5-3570K CPU @ 3.40GHz (3400.07 MHz) Memory: 8137 MB OS Version: Microsoft Windows 7 64-bit Service Pack 1 (Build 7601) Graphics Card Vendor: NVIDIA Corporation Graphics Card: GeForce GTX 660/PCIe/SSE2 Windows Graphics Driver Version: 9.18.0013.3165 OpenGL Version: 4.4.0 I went to two small PC shops in my town to get prices on building a PC for me as that is how I had my former PC built and then went to the same shop (in another city that is now closed) to upgrade components. I was not satisfied with the components quoted vs the price so I then began looking online based on recommendations I had received from kind people in the forums. One person suggested an online PC company that I had never heard of that offers custom building of PCs. That was where I found the PC just right for me based on a balance of components that would run SL well but still be within my budget. The company is Directron. I offer it to you as another avenue to check out. My PC arrived in perfect condition, extremely well packaged, and with all the packages and information of each component in my PC, including the packaging that the RAM came in. I give this company 5++++++ gold stars!!! I did purchase my graphics card from TigerDirect and, after I discovered they have a brick and mortar store in my area, later purchased a better power supply from them as well. Good luck with your PC selection! For awhile I was so confused about where to buy the PC and putting together the right components, but after I received it and got it set up, I am THRILLED with it.
  6. I was in SL for about two hours today from approximately 10 am - 1 pm SLT on two different sims and didn't experience any issues. Edit: Clarification
  7. Thank you for posting that Medhue. I began SL in that first female starter avatar shown, then several months later (in 2007) purchased the first long red hair shown in the video. It was made by Natalia Zelmanov and was the first "curly" hair I owned pre-flexi. Very cool to see Marianne McCann in the video and then when reading the credits, sad to remember that Circe Broom passed away sometime last year iirc. Memories for sure.
  8. Shelby Silverspar wrote: go visit The Free Dove and pick up some more outfits, everything there is free and you may run into other who are new like yourself, and more eager to talk. Another way to obtain free items, including clothes, is to go on hunts. A good site that lists current and upcoming hunts is here. I would suggest checking out that list, find a hunt with a theme or the type of items offered that interests you (those that are asking what to do in SL) and go to the starting point (the first store on the list) and look for the hunt item. What you are looking for in each store will be displayed on the corresponding hunt poster outside the stores. Find that item, click on it and buy for 0L and you will get the item from that store as well as the landmark for the next location. I find hunts to be a lot of fun - many designers offer amazing items for free and I have met other "hunters" with whom I've struck up a conversation and/or paired up to hunt for awhile, plus it helps those new to SL (and even "oldbies") to discover great new places. 9. MrZVZ wrote: Taking classes you suggested: To speed up my learning curve about it, would you share more info how to locate classes, and whatever else in general to know about them to participate? (I am looking up "Caledon" now and the search result brought up number of destinations. So it is not that straight forward. Perhaps a list of classes exist somewhere in one place or it is pretty much one's quest to find them and the process set forth to enroll and that is different in each place, like RL? My suggestion re: classes would be to look up Builders Brewery in your in world search under places. Teleport over to their landing spot and there will be a sign to click to join their group. There are other wonderful places in SL that offer classes as well, but Builders Brewery is a very good place to start and they offer a variety of classes and within the group send out a weekly schedule.
  10. I first heard of Torley Linden via his video tutorial on making gestures: While the "look" may now be outdated and the viewer will look different particularly to those using v3 viewers, the info provided here to create gestures is still the same. As others have said, I would advise against using inane gestures in clubs. I, too, have turned off the ability to hear gestures (one of the best additions to the viewers, imo); prior to that I muted people who were gesture spamming in clubs. I have been in clubs and have heard people say in local chat, "Why isn't anyone talking?" Many people, especially in the ballroom type dance venues are in IMs, especially people who are couple-dancing but also, as another poster mentioned, some of us have heard way too many "Hoos!" in our SL's and tune out general chat in certain places.

LOL, I am here to vote against you being CEO Linden Lab has Blogs and Forums, post here first and foremost. I feel it is rather disappointing to have the information in places I never go, and to have that the place where information is disseminated is unfortunate. I agree with this 100 percent. You should not have to have go to facebook or twitter to get information or any third party website for that matter, including SLU. I for one don't use facebook or twitter because of privacy concerns and they target you with too much spam. If they want to post there in addition to the official SL website fine, but everything should be posted on the official SL website first. It doesn't matter if people read it or not. If someone doesn't, that is on them if something happens that affects them negatively because they didn't read it. This ^^
  12. (Just tagging onto your post, Perrie; this post is a general one, not directed at anyone.) I find it interesting that there are more people voicing how much they liked Rod as CEO of LL over on General and in "the other" SL forum vs the sentiments here in Merchants. There are less responses here but even on General most of the people who were not happy with Rod are merchants.

But sl, as a whole? I have my doubts.(truth be told I've had them since the beginning and, thus far, no one has done anything that gives me reason to get rid of those doubts). I think his motivation was entirely in the wrong place. Wanting a company to do better doesn't do this platform any amount of good, if you don't also want the platform to expand, grow, etc... (Bolding mine) This was my initial thought when I first read this article (that I have linked to at various times in the forums) and his actions or non-actions only deepened that initial opinion. This part of the interview with Rod always gave me a negative impression of Rod re: his interest in SL: “When I was thinking about leaving EA,” said Humble during a recent meeting. “I was going to do my own company, and it was going to be around creative spaces--games that emphasize creativity tools more. When the opportunity came up and Linden Lab got in touch...first of all, Second Life? Is that still around? [laughs] I looked, and it was really, really healthy. Also, it was a company that was ready made to do a whole bunch of other products, which I wanted to do.” Rod states that he wanted to have his own company around the type of products/"creative spaces" that LL has released since Rod became the CEO aka Patterns, etc. When he was offered the CEO position at LL, (1) he didn't realize SL was still around (strike 1, especially for someone working within the genre of internet entertainment, to use an all-encompassing word for virtual worlds, MMORPGs, etc.), then he checked it out and saw that, imo, he could join LL and do the things he wanted without the risk/start up capital for a new company (strike 2 - using LL/SL for his own motives).
  14. Thank you all so much for your responses. I'm going to try a different Intan HUD. From several of your responses that appears to be the best solution. Will report back with updates.
  15. Coby Foden wrote: Meow... :catlol: :catwink: I am laughing so hard!!!!!! That is EXACTLY the situation I had with my Doberman and cat. That particular cat years ago was very mellow and never hissed at the Dobie (at least in my presence...lol) nor batted at the Dobie but she was terrified of *any* cat. I wonder what it is that cats do that spook some dogs so much. A more recent story - I kept my parents Bichon for several days some years back and I now have a different cat than the one in the Dobie story. When I first brought the dog in the house the cat hid under the bed for awhile. The dog curled up on the floor next to my computer chair. After awhile the cat came sloooooowly creeping around the wall. The dog went on full alert, began whimpering, and inched closer to me. When the cat saw that reaction she crouched down and walked toward him; the dog became very anxious so I put the cat back in the bedroom. This scenario played out several times during the dog's visit.

It is usually at crowded clubs I see the failure. On the other hand I have a remote that has started acting funny. It's set to "touch," but a left click touch isn't working. I'm having to right click, choose 'touch' from the pie menu. I probably should take some time to figure it out. Interestingly the main club this has happened in is during a time no one else is there, at least in the club. This club also rents sky homes; when viewed on the map there are always a lot of "green dots" in the area, but none in or around the club so I assume they are residents on the sim so this could account for the no free script time. Thank you for your response, Perrie...I've been trying different things to troubleshoot this issue and had run out of more ideas. I also tried to edit the HUD and reset the scripts but the menu selection to do that was grayed out so the HUD is likely no mod. You are correct, the HUD is no mod. One of those itty bitty issues it would be AWESOME if LL could fix, being able to reset scripts in no mod objects. Do you think a JIRA might help.

  19. Many/most of the Intan systems in dance clubs offer a HUD that can be worn which I find extremely helpful if I need to resynch a dance or change dances instead of having to locate the club Intan which can sometimes be tricky in crowded clubs. I recently ran into an issue that I am trying to troubleshoot: The Intan HUD works at most places were I go but there are a couple of places (where their Intan offers the HUD) that the HUD does not work. At first I thought perhaps it was due to scripts being turned off at the clubs where it does not work, but my other HUDS (AO & Mystitool) both work fine there and the Intan HUD works at other clubs where scripts are turned off. Thinking perhaps my Intan HUD had become corrupted, I got another one *at* one of the clubs where the HUD did not work. The new HUD did not work there either, but worked at other places. The next thing I tried was attaching the HUD at my home (where scripts are turned on for me), then going to the club where it does not work. The HUD worked very briefly when I arrived with it already attached, but then quit operating. So, would it be the specific club/s that is the issue and if so, why does the HUD work at some clubs where scripting is turned off (if that is the reason) but not at others? Many thanks in advance for suggestions as I have been scratching my head about this for a few days.

Commentary in one or two threads at the time suggested that perhaps the jiras were closed so that the STEAM execs. didn't realize how many outstanding issues/bugs were in SL. And really, how many JIRA's turn into "flame fests." And where would we be with certain what were hot button topics? Would LL have gone ahead as planned and deprecated llgetagent status? Would the problems with Red Zone have been dealt with? But beyond those how many actually were what could possibly be described as "flame fests." IF LL used flame fests as a reason for closing them that was pretty lame. Perhaps LL created the problem because there was no other place we could post where we felt like we could get their attention. So if we want to talk about communication break down this is a prime example. And the other side of this is how many people have found solutions to problems because the JIRA's were public? Agree to all of the above. ETA: That is, I agree to all of the above that Perrie said. :matte-motes-bashful-cute:
  21. Great video! Thank you for posting this! I especially liked the leap over the Rottweiler move. I owned a Doberman years ago who was absolutely terrified of cats, so when I adopted a cat from the Humane Society, the Dobie was NOT a happy camper. Those two (Doberman and the cat) finally reached a detente of sorts.

I'm not sure what you mean by an address bar but I use Singularity and copy and paste SLURLs into local chat sometimes to tp to a location. My recommendation would be to ask on the Singularity website as an issue here (any time I have opened an issue on the Singularity website I have received an answer in literally minutes most of the time) or, if you are not yet a member, join the Singularity group in world and ask in group chat. I have found the Singularity founder and helpers very...well helpful.
