  1. I use the Singularity viewer and LOVE it!! The user interface looks like the original SL 1.2x viewers but has all the features I came to love while using the Phoenix viewer. (Phoenix was discontinued in lieu of Firestorm - same developers. Firestorm is a very popular version 3 SL viewer and does have a Phoenix mode, but I personally found it too bloated for my taste.) If I have ever had any issues with Singularity, I have received excellent customer support on their website.

Oh I would love to know which one you have. I saw last time at a breedable sim such a cute pair of K9 dogs again, but I could resist so far:) Yes...lol. I have a LOT of unbirthed puppies but never quite got the hang of how much to sell them for, etc. The breeds I have are Pit Bulls, MinPins (Miniature Pinschers), and Huskeys. I have some adult dogs with seeds I would love to find a good home for (for free). Would enjoy chatting with you about breedables in general.
  3. The only time I tried a wireless mouse was when I was still playing EQ regularly. The batteries decided to die right in the middle of an intense fight and...Nooooooooooo!!! I couldn't do anything, including run. After that untimely death I vowed to never try wireless again...lol. @Perrie - At the risk of sounding really dumb...you are talking about a battery recharger and then purchase the type of batteries that can be recharged? (I probably answered my own question.) Of course that wouldn't help if even rechargeable batteries failed during a tricky time, but I haven't played an MMO in awhile so it's likely a moot point. :matte-motes-wink-tongue:

  6. Ok, I'll jump in.... I think others have addressed the "What's the point" question so I'll just add my anecdote... ...as mentioned in another thread I have owned VKC (Virtual Kennel Club) pets since 2007. These virtual pets are absolutely amazing and do NOT breed nor do they have to be rezzed in world so they won't "die." One day, however, I was scanning the MP and saw the cutest picture of a puppy Pit Bull for sale. I purchased it on an impulse. I did notice it was a breedable but in the moment of "Awwwww, isn't that puppy cute" I didn't consider the ongoing ramifications. After the puppy arrived in its crate and was "born" the next thing I had to do was to rez the food bowl and begin buying food...and buying food...and buying food. I'm convinced this is "the" profit center of breedables...at least this brand. I read up on how these breedables work and discovered that once they are "bred out," meaning the dogs have no more "seeds" then they don't have to eat. I acquired a male Pit Bull and began the process of breeding out the seeds with the intention of eventually having two dogs that didn't eat...but there was a catch. The male (iirc) of each breed has more beginning seeds than the female so they never come out "even." About that time the company came out with a new breed - Miniature Pinschers or MinPins. I have always loved this breed RL so I just had to purchase a starter set of the MinPins. So now I'm breeding out the MinPins AND the PitBulls AND now have 4 dogs that are eating, requiring the ongoing purchase of food. I just put the unborn puppies in inventory and have not tried to sell any of them. Once I got the female MinPin bred out, I did birth one of their puppies to finish breeding out the male. This breedable company has an option to send a dog to "heaven" in exchange for tokens that can be used to purchase food, accessories, etc. so after I bred out the male MinPin I sent the puppy to "heaven." It displayed the message "Thank you for being my friend, Czari. I have to go now" before it poofed. I know it is really silly to be attached to bits and bytes, but that really tugged at my heart and I decided I couldn't send any more of the dogs to "heaven." In the meantime my female Pit Bull was bred out but the male wasn't so I birthed one of the puppies and...anyway... ...in a search to try and find an adult Pit Bull with the same number of seeds as the second generation Pit Bull so I could FINALLY have now five dogs that didn't have to eat I acquired a pair of Huskeys (don't ask). Not only was this getting expensive to feed my expanding kennel, I have a small parcel and I was having to take out furnishings to make room for the breedables. My dilemma - after the one experience with sending a dog to "heaven" I didn't want to do that again but my parcel was beginning to be dedicated to the dogs and, again, I wasn't attempting to sell the puppies. Maybe I should look into that but I don't have any amazing combination of traits that are usually the big sellers. I have not been involved with any other breedable companies but I will say I am impressed with the customer service and friendliness of this line of breedables. I finally mentioned my dilemma in group chat and discovered the VERY welcome info that these breedables never "die." They can be put into inventory and when next rezzed will be "sick" for approximately the same amount of time they were in inventory but will finally "revive." I tested this out with two of the dogs and, except for the eerie feeling of having what looked like dead dogs laying around the parcel for a few days, they do come back to life, unlike other breedables some of my friends have had. I now only have four of the dogs out and only one of them eats so the expense isn't too bad now and I will eventually put those four away for awhile. My reason for getting a breedable was simply because I thought one of the dogs was cute...and then I let things get a bit out of hand. As an addendum to my story, I have two friends who were very heavily into breedables for awhile...at least one sold, or tried to sell, the offspring. Both had breeds that would die in inventory and both finally decided that, "for them," it wasn't worth it. One friend actively deleted all her horses and the other one took the breedables into inventory. She rezzed one recently to see what would happen. It rezzed but was black and then "poofed." Having said all the above, I am fascinated by the people who do make money with the breedables but I don't have the interest or patience. I just like cute dogs.

In fact, the VKC Australian Shepherd was my very first purchase in SL, ahead of skin, hair, home and other common things one imagines that someone new might choose. I still enjoy my girl Pixel as much today as I did then because she is able to grow along with me as each of us learns new skills. Indeed, it is the VKC Pets that keep me coming back to SL after all these years. I remember Pixel! You helped me a lot in some of the first training classes I took, Rosanna. Learning what the VKC dogs could learn back in 2007 was awesome...almost 7 years later I continue to be amazed at the creativity Enrico builds into each pet. Although I now own some of the newer pets, my "first" VKC was my Chow, Aiko, and she is still one of my very favorites. I always wanted one of the Dobies but never got around to purchasing one so awhile back I went to the Rehoming Center and adopted an old Dobie, Rottweiler...ummmm, I think a few others as well. When the subject of "Does anyone use pathfinding" comes up occasionally on the forums (and I was not a fan of pathfinding), I thought (and sometimes posted) that VKC is the only place, to my knowledge, where pathfinding is used regularly. (I really need to come to the pathfinding classes...heh.) Does anyone know if pathfinding is used regularly anyplace else on the grid?
  8. Thank you for sharing that story, Blu. I have quite a few of the VKC dogs, several of the rabbits (that rabbit hunt was challenging!!!) and most recently a VKC cat that looks exactly like my beloved RL cat I lost years ago; I took the training classes offered back in 2007-2008, and have shopped at your store but never knew the "back story." What a great thread...thank you for starting it, Medhue.
  9. Happy Rez Day!!!! Even though I've now had *coughs* ummmm...several "rezversaries," I think the first one is the most fun...and memorable. BTW - Did you get an email from LL with a link to a Rezday cake? If not, here's the link.

When she became to ill we would come here to dance run and play something no longer possible in RL Liz passed in 2008 and I am still here. I feel her presence on the grid as much as I would when walking a familiar street in RL. I can relate so much to this - one of my dearest friends was a woman I initially met about 20 years ago on IRC. Over time we became great friends which led to phone calls (prior to Skype) and eventually to visiting on the phone for hours at least once a week; more often as the years passed. I remember the phone conversation where I was excitedly telling my friend about this wondrous new virtual world I'd found....only to hear she had discovered it three months prior...lol. We had completely different interests in SL so we didn't hang out in world together much except for the occasional IM but we had great fun sharing our SL anecdotes via our phone calls. My friend first became ill during the time I knew her on IRC; during her years on SL she was bedbound but I was probably the only person who knew she was even ill; she wanted it that way so no one would view her as anything but the vibrant person she always was in SL. Her SL activities included being an active DJ, managing a large mall and club, and selling some items via an affiliate vendor. Her's was the first SL home I had ever seen when I first joined SL and I recall being in awe of how realistic it was. She introduced me to the VKC dogs. My friend was the type that didn't want to dwell on being ill, but live life to the fullest. If I asked how she was doing RL she usually just brushed it off. I knew something was wrong when she told me one day she had decided to delete her account but because she didn't want to worry me she didn't go into specifics. I begged her to not delete the account but just let it stay dormant until she felt like using it again. I didn't realize how ill she had become and can still hear her husband's voice the day he called in November 2011 to tell me she had passed away. I still have her name on my friend's list and her calling card in inventory. These are the types of memories that go beyond SL being "just a ... " fill in the blank: virtual world, game, pasttime, etc.

Maybe even on a tombstone. Circa is used in places where it means, "I am stupid and can not remember. Definately not ijn places to guess a year you can not remember from circa 3 years ago. <-- see my point I've never in my life heard that word in conversation. Words like "about" or "around" are much more clear. I actually use the word circa - I wouldn't say a lot, it just depends on the context. I read quite a bit and see the word used regularly so it's not necessarily archaic.

The amount the goverment allows you to keep to cover your time and expenses collecting it is less than what it costs a business. It is also a regressive tax. Those that can least afford it are the ones that pay the highest percent of their income in sales tax. I've read so many articles proposing different ways to implement taxation and so many pros and cons to the different solutions I really do wonder if it is possible to come up with a system that people might consider is "fair" to everyone. Perhaps a flat tax with no deductions - provided congress has to pay 10 times the rate of everyone else. Maybe they'd figure out a reasonable rate for the rest of us and actually spend less money on pork barrels, perks for special interests, and corporate welfare, so that it was feasible. This ^^
  16. I'm having trouble just getting the MP website to open, much less use it!! :matte-motes-angry: I received an IM in world today from a friend asking if I was having trouble with the MP being exceptionally slow this past week, so it is apparently a very widespread issue.
  17. My issue is likely not shared by many other merchants but there was at least one other merchant (I think Couldbe Yue, iirc) - or at least one other merchant who has posted on these forums - that are still experiencing the "Mixed Listings Bug" that happened...what...almost two years ago now. It was supposed to be fixed according to the information in this thread from almost a year ago and indeed some merchants' stores were fixed. Mine still looks like this: The jira I was instructed by CTL to file back on May 15, 2013 re: this unresolved issue has been languishing as Status: "Unassigned" but, interestingly, on January 30 I received an email with a link to my jira (designated as #BUG-2598) which shows the jira status is now listed as "Been Triaged." I have no idea what that means but I was surprised, to say the least, to receive info on this issue about which I had pretty much given up. I'm hoping the updated communication is a good sign.

Let me get up to speed from those that know... If any of them have trouble remembering there are some folks here who have very good memories. Since SL is an international world, albeit virtual, it really does need a history written by these people with memories going back to ancient times. The CEO of LL is unlike any other CEO, because he is not only the leader of a business, but an international world. I bet he would find it very enlightening to read a history of it, if there was one. In Chapter 12 of the book Second Life: The Official Guide (beginning on page 274) there is an historical timeline of SL; it only goes to 2007, the year the book was published, but it is an interesting read.

  22. Adding my welcome to you as well, Ebbe. Like Dillon I was away from the PC earlier in the day but it was a great surprise and delight to return and see Dres' post. (Thank you, Dres!!) 24. Dillon Levenque wrote: Nina, the Intel HD 3000 isn't really a separate graphics card, it's something integrated into the motherboard of your PC, and not even the latest and greatest of those. It is almost certainly your problem. You can probably lower your graphics settings in the viewer as far as they'll go, reduce your draw distance to 64, and barely get by, but you really should try to find an NVIDIA graphics adapter and get it installed. If you're on a tight budget then buy something mid or low range. Even an outdated, not much better than middle-range adapter like mine will rain all over the Intel integrated in terms of SL usablility. I was just about to post that, based on my recent experience, I didn't think the integrated graphics was the entire issue but I just double-checked the integrated graphics on my MB and it is the Intel HD 4000 so it could be. :matte-motes-bashful-cute: With my integrated graphics I didn't see any gray areas as indicated in the OP's photos. (OTOH, that was what a LOT of SL looked like to me before the new PC...lol.) Movement was fluid, lag in even the busiest places was minimal if at all (of course sim lag can be caused by a number of factors), and I could turn my draw distance up very high and still not see the gray areas. I was actually so happy with the online graphics (especially as compared to my previous PC) that I wondered what the main differences would be with my graphics card which, ummmmm...has been installed fairly recently. For me, the differences I see thus far (haven't been in world that much since the graphics card was installed) are that I can now use high and ultra-high settings with all the bells & whistles and the fps is dramatically higher. Since my internet speed is "OK" but not the best, one thing I have done with my former and current PCs is set the bandwidth in SL to around 1000; I think with the graphics card I bumped that up to maybe 1500, would have to go inworld and look. Not sure if that affects graphics in SL at all but I suggested lowering bandwidth to a friend of mine who was crashing a lot awhile back and that worked for him so just thought I'd throw that out into the mix for the OP.
  25. Tari Landar wrote: Oh, and one more thing, sometimes when we buy stuff, we get in a hurry to leave, and given the way the inventory serves have been lately, I wouldn't rule out the "things I bought didn't fully make it to inventory" glitch. There's not really a solution for that, but I do recommend sitting put when you buy something or open a package even to be CERTAIN they made it to your inventory. This happens a lot more after opening a box or package of some sort. You might think you got it all, but you may not have. In that case, you can always rez that item back out, re-open, and copy to inventory again. (Bolding mine) Good point. I haven't had this happen a lot, but enough that when I purchase something in world I check my inventory right after the sale and before I leave the shop to make sure it arrived. I had this happen a few months ago at a very busy, well-known store that was having a huge sale. I purchased an item, the lindens were removed from my account, but I never saw the drop down box or comments in general chat (I'm thinking that depends on the type vendor being used?) that indicated a purchase transaction. Checked inventory in the "Recent" tab and nothing there. Next did a search and still not there. I waited for about five minutes then, since this store had a sign with the name of a person to contact with any problems, sent an IM (as requested) to that person. Continued looking around the store and about 15 minutes after making the purchase I got a drop down box saying "Thank you for your purchase" (or words to that effect), THEN heard the ching-ching sound of lindens being transferred (although they had already been taken from my account) and voila! there was my purchase. I was in the process of writing an updated IM to the contact person when they IM'd me. After the first time something like this happened many years ago, I just got into the habit of waiting for a bit to see if the items arrived. They did every time, just taking varying degrees of time.
