  1. Thank you so very much for that recommendation, Amethyst. :matte-motes-smile: The way you organize textures sounds a lot like how I have mine set up *but* the ability to have sub-categories under a general category within this organizer is brilliant!! The ability to also store/organize sounds, gestures, etc. is a HUGE, HUGE bonus. I read the info on this organizer on the MP plus all the reviews and plan to purchase it ASAP!

Gah! I saw one there almost a year ago, and it ran a sophisticated text script, and I have no doubt snagged people. I haven't made it over to Truth yet but according to this post it has reappeared....or never left. *Note to self to really go check* Yup, that's how it goes. Almost word-for-word the same script. First the avatar IMs you to claim you bumped them, then they tell you how cute you are. They ask if you made your own shape, and tell about their relationship-gone-bad. They wrap up by asking for money. It doesn't matter what replies you post to them, they have a prearranged script they're working from. So, I suspect it's a scripted bot. There may be a person who logs into that account to check the progress occasionally, so individuals may encounter some real-time response, but mostly everyone gets the same speel toss at them. When I was there, the sim owner came on, and I IMd them to report the begger bot, as I figured they'd want to know. But, nothing changed. Since this is consistently at certain sim, I wonder what the connection is between the "begger" and the sim? Now that I'm thinking of this again, I recalled a blog article where this person or someone similar was interviewed. I found it here. You make an interesting point about the beggar bot being consistently at one sim.
  3. I like to keep a a really tight, organized inventory and considering I've been in SL now 6+ years and my inventory (including my building supplies, products I sell, etc. in addition avatar items, clothing, etc.) hovers around 8500, I'm pleased overall...except for textures. I purchased a texture organizer that I really liked years ago which is what I primarily use, now I can't remember the name of it but MM something and I use the HUD version. Textures that I've used in builds or plan to use in builds are tucked away. But I have a ton of textures, some of them in freebie packs I must have gotten in 2007!!! I've been trying to go through them and ruthlessly ditch textures I know I won't use but then I get hit with that nagging, "But I might use this in something...someday" thought. Also, I file my textures in categories but some textures can be in several such as red fabric that could go in one of my fabric categories as well as the color red. ARRGGGGHHHH!!! What texture organization secrets am I missing? Maybe I should get one of those huge rezzable organizers where I can see the categories at one time. Any organizers you all like or tips or any advice to help me wrestle my textures into a manageable state are greatly appreciated. :matte-motes-smile:

  5. Red52 wrote: Hi Czari - thank you for your reply and info. I have only been an SL member for just over a year, so am not sure why -if the product was made in 2008 - it wasn't all taken care of back then. My email listed 6 salsa dances that were 'infringing content,' but they were in a folder of 27. Now am wondering why the other dances in that folder weren't considered 'Infringment?' I just deleted them all - I don't want to have any part of this problem. The email I received did have the statement you mentioned. I was getting freaked out by the LL info that said 'to get a lawyer.' (Are you kidding me???) Red52 You're welcome. Oooo, where did it say to get a lawyer? Just looked at the email again; I'm thinking it must have been in some of the linked sites but as soon as I saw what the infringed property was I just filed the letter away. I did go in world to watch the "replacement animation" turn me around in a circle. I'm also wondering how these dances are just now being reported or removed. Knowing how LL works, it's entirely possible it's just taken them this long to get around to removing them. Who knows?
  6. Sassy Romano wrote: Simply, Linden Lab got it wrong, very wrong. My point was that many people would just accept it and lose the dances because they have been "told" that they have content they shouldn't have. Want to make sure I'm understanding this correctly because, overall, I agree with you. Are you saying the Salsa dances we had removed are by Akeyo or just that you have experienced legitimate copies of Akeyo dances being wrongfully removed by LL?
  7. Pamela Galli wrote: I had those salsa dances back in 2008, and they were really good! It never dawned on me then, as it would now -- they were stolen from someone who put a lot of work into them. Same here; I tried looking up the designer listed on the dances (although if they were ripped the listed person may not be the designer at all) and the profile no longer shows in People Search. Now I'm wondering who *did* design those.
  8. Ah, thank you Coby & Hugsy. *Adds checking out the Japanese Linden Homes for nostalgia to going to Truth (whether I can handle it or not aside) to see the Bot Beggar.*

Which reminds me that I met someone recently who said that IW is "catching up" with SL. Ummmmm...ok.

That put aside if Rudy and Alicia based their whole chain of arguments on my person, and repeating the same lies about Mandela, I notice a kinda familiar strategy here. One I know from various GOP party leaders. But you're right, I didn't learn anything new about the USA since I'm in SL. After a couple of visits to the US and my daily dose of media consumption I guess I know enough to engage into a discussion with the inhabitants of that strange country. Unfortunately I'm not able to get your mindset and my laguage skills are rather basic, which makes me a loser ... lol, loser was another term I had to learn a new definition of after talking to Americans. So anyway, I was shooting off my mouth about Rudy mainly and Alicia partly, because I found their posts to be very mean spirited and yes, evil! And they were worded and spun in a way I only know from certain Americans of the unlikeable sort. I'm quite sure most Americans are decent people but as it always is, it's the most loud and radical aholes that make the greatest impression. So far Rudy and Alicia failed as representants of the USA, same as I failed as representant of ... oh what do I represent anyway? Just me i guess. Anyway, I failed. Doesn't matter: they tried to tarnish Mandela's reputation and I couldn't let that stand. Particularly since they attacked him for all the wrong reasons. You sure got your facts right about everything, I am not even from america ffs and just google about mandela`s history and open a few history books... I was waiting for your reaction at being called an American. *Grins*

  12. Red52 wrote: Hello- I received an email today stating that a complaint had been made because I was infringing on IP content. Supposedly, several animations (salsa dances?) were the 'infringing content.' I have no idea what to do about this since this has never happened to me, and I didn't know I was infringing on anyone. I am not a creator or seller, and I always make my purchases through the marketplace or inworld stores. I am very confused by what all of this means - can someone please explain this to me? How do I find out who complained or where I got this content from? Shouldn't LL be going after the person/ people who gave it to me supposedly? Thank you, Red52 I got the identical email and it listed three salsa dances. I received those dances many, many years ago from a friend who was apparently unwittingly handing out content that somehow had illegally become full perm. This is the first time I've had this happen to me but having read about it on the forums I knew it was nothing I had intentionally done. I'm always glad to see IP infringement dealt with in SL - in this case, wondering why it took so long...but at least it was done. Oh and to answer your question, the email would have included - "If you weren't aware of an intellectual property issue, don't panic or take it personally!" When a DMCA or take down complaint is filed by the merchant who created a given item, all the items are removed from everyone's inventory. Edit: Typo
  13. Ah, thanks Dres...this particular line: A user could buy a lifetime account for $159.95 (later raised to $225) and would be able to enjoy Second Life without paying any monthly fees. ...does indicate monthly fees. @Pussycat: The debates I saw were along the lines of people being able to make disposable accounts for the sole purpose of griefing although in 2007 there was "supposedly" still a charge ($9.95 iirc?) for each alt above the main account and when I made my first alt I fully expected to see that charge but never did. OTOH, subscription games like WoW have a fair number of griefers even when people pay $14.95 USD/month to play (although that does include quite a few alt characters on one account) so you may have a point. Edit (belatedly) - Typo

I did the exact same thing having only ever played Everquest where one had to choose their avatar look on the character creation screen. I spent six hours my first day in SL working on my avatar (this is prior to going to Help Island and acquiring the Alpine Chalet adornment). I thought I looked pretty good: Errrrrr, until I got into SL itself and began seeing prim hair, flexis, etc. (This photo is a recreation of how I looked when I entered SL for the purposes of a SL class I later taught.) *Cringes* Pussycat Catnap wrote: So I spent my newbie moments trying to solve the only two things that blog hadn't addressed: money for shopping and something to do. So there I was camping on a XXX poseball to get some free props... (That's about where I began to realize that SL-XXX is NOT arousing, but absurdly silly. I had to eventually stop not because of getting too 'hot', but because I couldn't stop giggling... It was either funny, or seriously boring...) (Bolding mine) Totally agree. I actually had a discussion on sex animations in SL with a man with whom I was dancing recently. I expressed the opinion that many/most sex animations in SL cause me to laugh; not the reaction the animation designers are going for I would think. The man said, "But they do enhance the mood, don't you think?" I said "No," which went back to him insisting they did at which point I stated that men do tend to be more visual and I'm not saying many people (men *and* women) don't enjoy them, I just personally find them generally....funny. Our dance ended shortly thereafter. Edit: clarification

I received an IM/tp request from the person who had invited me to SL from the safety of my IRC chat channel. Ah! Maybe he can tell me how to remove this house from my avatar. But of course they were pointing and laughing at you... you just couldn't see or hear it. We all went through that, I'm sure... lol. When you mentioned the Alpine Chalet, I had to wonder if that's the same Alpine Castle that I got when I first started... I'll never forget it. Fooling around with that in a sandbox was my first introduction to building things in SL. It may not have made a great hat, but it sure was a great learning tool. They don't make things like that anymore in SL, afaik... though what I don't know could probably overflow the oceans. ...Dres Could have been or a similar design. When I arrived on Help Island there was a house that had boards of freebie items. Not knowing anything about SL, I just began clicking everything!!!!!!
  17. In doing some quick research I found this History of SL Wiki. Maybe the people who posted about making SL "free" were referring to the "prim taxes" - "In order to restrict simulator resource usage, a tax system was introduced which required every Resident to pay a weekly fee, depending on the prims they had rezzed inworld. This system was easy to trick by packing all prims into the inventory on payment due day, then re-rezzing them again a day later."There is a section in the book I reference in my signature that talks of the SL Tax Rebellion (or something similar). I'll have to comb through some of the archived forums to find the references to "non-paying users" being when things changed in SL. It really was a subject that came up often when alts or griefing in particular were discussed.

I have to assume there was a time pre-2007 when one had to pay to be in SL or at least pay in some fashion that doesn't exist today. Where are the old "oldbies?" to help me out here? Edit: Clarification
  19. Most welcome! Now I want to go see if the Japanese area is still there. lol
  20. Does the Japanese area still exist? And heading in world now to send the script over.
  21. While I don't like the Linden Homes, I do think the Japanese style are pretty and seem to have more land between them. Are they still there? Anyone I visit in a Linden home is always in the boxy "modernistic" model. Circa 2010:

I always wondered why doesn't the viewer say something like Zindra: RandomSexyAdultSim (128 128 22) in the title bar so you'd know. Somewhere along the line a small script was given to me (could have even been by someone on this forum...just can't recall atm) that can be put in a prim article of clothing (I think I stuck it in my hair) and it gives the continent one tps to. I had great fun with it for awhile. If you (or anyone) would like a copy (I'm pretty sure it was full perms) IM me in world and I'll pass one to you.
