  1. Yes they cannot determine where you yourself reside from your IP addy. What the IP address will give you is who the provider is and where they are located. So, they may determine that your Internet Provider resides in a certain city in a certain country. For the person who does not want to be detected either by IP addy or Mac addy, there are many many ways out there to hide. Simply going to any internet site will reveal your IP addy to whomever controls that sight so your IP addy is already being collected by 'someone' every time you go somewhere. So for example, if you go to a forum site to chat, they have your IP addy. Having managed a few of these discussion sites in the past, we used to ban by IP addy but always only a temp measure. The problem then is the same problem now, you will most likely be banning others who have the same IP addy who are well behaved members while the troublemaker most likely will be back in a few minutes using a proxy. They learn these methods very quickly.
  2. Well, many are net savy & can easily mask their IP. It's been my experience that many people divulge bits n pieces of their rl via chats etc while online. It's not too difficult in many cases to find out where someone lives just from seeing what they are talking about online. I think what goes on in sl is probably not much different than the internet in general and other sites such as topical forums, game sites, etc. I think the onus is on us as users of the internet to also protect ourselves. I've seen many instances where people logon to the net, not just sl, & expect all sorts without reading the fine print. Like anything in life, you need to know where you are going and what you are doing. With regards to sl, I treat it as I do any other place online & know that anything I say - well, may be used against me in a court of the universe - so to speak. In otherwords, if you don't want it to get out there, don't say it, post it, etc. Be aware.
  3. I've heard many things as well in this regard. One thing that does sound out there, is anyone being able to get your rl address. I've never divulged this info to LL so am unsure how anyone could obtain such info in sl? Am I missing something?
  4. Koltari wrote: I have to agree with this. Mainly about not having clothes modeled by an avatar in advertisements. Make is quite hard to decide how it's going to look and if it's worth getting a demo (if it's mesh). Was searching trough many adds yesterday for mesh jeans which don't have the "skinny thighs that don't meet at the crotch" kind of look (kind of hard for me to explain without visual aids). A nice add with the clothes on an avatar would have been much preferred than Sl clothes on hangers Yes, I've noticed this also. They follow that new look where there is a rather large gap in the crotch area where the legs are quite far apart. Because your body has to conform to the mesh, the clothing item dictates your shape. I'm not a big fan of that particular style, wide crotch, but there certainly is a market for it so smart move on the side of any designers that cater their mesh to this customer base. Especially since that stype seems to have become quite popular. IMO, if I were a clothing designer I certainly would do the same. The best thing would be to try to create your mesh items in the varying styes in order to cover the customer base as best you can. I see there are some designers that only cater to the one style but I honestly believe that they would increase their sales and customer base, should they provide both. On the topic of mesh in general, I was very very skeptical about it's launch into sl. Aside from building, I thoughouly enjoy shopping & wearing the awesome clothes. There are so many talented designers out there and the quality has improved tremdously over the past couple of years. So when mesh arrived, I didn't jump right in but waited. Then I saw a mesh dress, made by one of sl's best & I had to have it. I have found that with a majority of the mesh makers, for clothes, I can wear the xsmall or small size quite nicely. I always get the demo and so far have been lucky to enjoy most all of my mesh purchases. I understand the frustration one would have if their shape changes dramatically when they wear mesh. Since it's fairly new, perhaps designers will eventually try to cover the gamit of the customer base in this regard. I see that they already have mesh for tinies and most likely other genres. Bottom line, I now feel that mesh is an awesome addition to the grid and will only get better as time goes by. I also don't think our worries about sculpts and prims will go to the wayside at all. I think all these methods will end up complimenting each other & allowing designers to become even more creative over time. Other mesh items such as shoes IMO are on par with the clothes. The mesh hair? I'm still not 100 % liking most however, there are a few designers that have blended mesh with flexi and I really like the mix. I also saw on flicker, a photo of a mesh avatar. Awesome work however little things were off such as thumbs being too long which I noticed right off, but the actual avatar overall appeared much more life like. I look forward to seeing more and more as well as learning how to create myself in this area. Sorry, I seem to have babbled on here ....
  5. SL skirt base? Not at all. I don't think I ever wear anything that uses this anymore. Also, this post simply reflects my shopping habits. I am curious what other's think as well. I am also a creator in SL and always appreciate constructive critisicm. I reread my post & see no rant nor any one sidedness. I think the humerous title of the thread follows through with my statements. If what I posted is taken in any other light then I apologize. My post was not meant to rant or antagonize anyone but to simply discuss an issue that I have dealt with for a long time. A really frivolous one perhaps, but I've been asking myself the same question for years - where is the view from the backside? I like those from the front but meh, I'm not gonna just buy them and hope for the best. But wow, after reading your post you would think I had slammed something or someone & used nasty terms etc. After some consideration, I find your comment one sided and quite negative. As I said, I am also a creator in sl and would welcome ANY of my customers to critique my creations. Otherwise, how the heck am I too provide them with what they need?? And this bit you said: "Buyers, if you do not have the smarts to try a mesh demo first then do not buy it,if they do not offer demos do not shop there and you will save your self a 5 min rant on the forums no one will read to even care about" I have no idea how you got that from my comment. I surely didn't imply anyone to be 'stupid' nor did I insult the author of a thread by inferring that the topic is a rant on not read worthy. And I do mention mesh, but would like to make it clear that my post is on any and all creations that apply, not just mesh.
  6. One of my fave SL bookmarked sites - It has the limits on homesteads as well as other SL limits. http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Limits#Profile
  7. Most definitely. Although we don't know how this person obtained the RL info on the OP, nor how he managed to have her lose her job. There really is very little someone can do to another person physically in SL, RL is another story & I'd certainly be much more concerned about my RL than my SL. Perhaps the OP means that they had to leave their job due to stress over this situation and that is how they lost their job? Otherwise, yes, RL would be my main concern & I would have already re-invented myself in SL.
  8. Jeans/Pants/Shorts/Skirts creators!!! Please when you make these, include a photo of the backside! I have passed over many many purchases of jeans, pants, skirts, shorts, etc. because there is no photo of the backside. I should probably add here that in addition to passing these over, I find myself not bothering with clothes that aren't modelled by an avatar. I have too often found that I don't like the item once I put it on. The nice thing with mesh is that you can often get the demo for zero lindens. However, I still would prefer to see a photo of how the item fits on the backside before even getting the demo. Perhaps it's me, I know I'm like a magpie, shiny things tend to distract me and I'm off but I do spend a lot, really an obscene amount of money on items in sl. Perhaps there are others out there that find the same but regardless, I am compelled to post this. Happy shopping!
  9. ...how romantic!! The bit about the dog is absolutely insane. Taking your dog to a kidnapping & duct taping it's snout shut so it won't make any noise screams 'lock me up I'm way way outta control'. What was she thinking???

I agree with others here....if this has reached such a point then you should contract RL authorities. Meanwhile, mute and DO NOT engage in any contact with this person. Such people thrive on attention so you take that away and they soon lose interest. There are any number of ways to handle this in sl but the best is to mute and ignore. Him and anybody else that feeds into the issue. As for anyone in any group that would send you a nasty IM as the result of another person passing photos is also worthy of mute and ignore. IMO, if it were me to receive photos I would most likely IM the person sending the photo. But really 2 years? I'm actually surprised you are concerned about SL when you say he caused the loss of your RL job. Meanwhile, this is the internet and the #1 rule is to be careful whom you share any RL into with. I'm always amazed at what people tell you that you know 100% they would NEVER tell you if you met them in the grocery store in RL!!!
  11. ITA ... leave it alone, let it be what it is. The problem with us humans is that we find something new and we immediately attempt to control it, add rules to it, .....then insist that all others conform to what we believe is the standard. No wonder we need such places as sl
  12. Enjoy yourself and forget your worries - other than treating others how you wish to be treated, there are no rules. Ignore the hall monitors who try to impose what they believe should be and have fun! Many come here to escape rl - fill your boots and have a blast I say!!! Cheers! clicked the wrong reply button ... this is just a comment in general not in reply to Tamara, sorry.
  13. During my many (ok I admit, am a shop-a-holic) billions of travels thru MP, I have bookmarked a few stores for which I feel have quality products to offer. I only have a few for skin makers that would fall in the category you are inquiring about but I hope they will be of some use to you. https://marketplace.secondlife.com/p/NDMD-EBONI-natural-Skins-nighttime/2876376 https://marketplace.secondlife.com/p/DemoTuTys-ZENA-AFRICAN-FEMALE-SKIN/3261597 good luck Edited to add this one simply because I think it's the best shape & skin work I've seen to date: https://marketplace.secondlife.com/p/DemoTuTys-CHIKA-Fair-skin/3736047 & Lyrical Oh of course https://marketplace.secondlife.com/p/LS-KATSUMI-Skin-Tea/3705900
  14. yes no ...searched your rl jewelry box for a pair of earings you recently purchased, only to realize that you purchased them in sl for your avie! ...told your rl co-workers when leaving for lunch that you are "...going to rl, back in a bit".
  15. http://community.secondlife.com/t5/Wanted/Looking-for-work-here-in-sl/m-p/1666685 There's one for you
  16. This is hilarious. Customer gives you one star because THEY couldn't be bothered to read the specs to see the footprint listed out in the details. OMG such logic !!!! I have to say, sometimes bad advertising can be very very good advertising
  17. In all honesty, they really should not have worded the discount in such a misleading manner. I wonder how many people have purchased premium only to find that the discount only pertains to the quarterly plan and only the 1st quarter at that. Anyone who just joins & pays for any other plan do not get the discount nor do they get their money back. There will be a lot of people who will feel duped if this happens. People know how these things work & are very aware of misleading advertising. No idea who drafted the advert but it is very misleading. Reading the fine print and buyer aware aside, IMO, it's sneaky. Just saying. http://community.secondlife.com/t5/Account/I-bought-the-new-premium-account-at-50-off-yet-ended-up-paying/qaq-p/1648813
  18. It's simple really ... you get an email from them saying that your payment method has failed and in the email, it tells you how to proceed. If you cannot arrange payment by updating or changing your payment method then they ask you to call the billing line which is open 24/7. When you call the billing line, they work it out with you. If you need time to pay, then you let them know and they will let you know how much time you have. hth

However to end the suspension the missed payment has to be made. Some people on a yearly payment plan have whined that they have to pay for a full year when what they really want is something less or a free pass or whatever. Put another way - people who refuse to/can't make the missed payment can't access their inventory making it 'lost.' that fact alone is stopping me from signing up.. live chat would be great but .. I honestly don't understand why that fact would be a deterrant. If there were no repurcussions for non-payment, then nobody would pay. This is a general rule in the real world - if you don't pay your phone bill it gets cut off. So in sl, if you don't pay your access bill, your access is turned off. However LL provides free service as well so you can always take advantage of that while your account is suspended until you pay. Most other services anywhere don't have such a feature.

While it has been said that "the only things in life that are certain are death and taxes," if any company could find a way to disprove that, sometimes I think it would be LL. 21. Yes I probably should have phrased that a little differently. ... I didn't get the whining bit since the purpose of paying annually is to save some bucks so yeah, getting a deal is a good thing & I certainly don't whine about that bit! lol
